[Out-of-Towner Review] I don't think I can rate any Jeni's less than FIVE stars. I'd give the SIX if I could, specifically for their Gooey Butter Cake flavor alone. I've come to this location almost every time I'm in Birmingham for work, at least once. The staff have always been kind and hard working. I like the set up, especially all of the outdoor seating. This location does not have indoor seating, which can be hard during the Alabama summer humidity, but there's always your car ;) Also, tons of parking which is always a bonus anywhere. I love that you can always taste every flavor and they never make you feel bad for trying their ice creams. I love Jeni's and was thrilled all of us unanimously agreed to ice cream one early summer evening. We were served samples by smiling faces, and there were heaps of enticing new flavors to taste! As much as I was tempted by the sparkling cherry pie and double dough, I had to go with my signature combo of coffee with cream & sugar and darkest chocolate. It was $5.95 for a standard bowl with two scoops, and waffle bowls were $1.50 extra. Out of our group of four, no one had selected the same two scoops as anyone else. Just goes to show how Jeni's has variety and flavors for all tastes! This standalone Jeni's is pretty tiny, so we sat outside in some low chairs. Parking was easy in the Pepper Place parking lot. They have a huge parking lot that it shares with other businesses that are in the plaza that it is located. There is also a couple of free street parking spots available as well. The staff there was very friendly and helpful. They have a walk up window for pick up orders right outside the parking lot. The shop is not very big. They offer samples of the ice cream, as most good shops do, and they only have cups and cones. There is nothing fancy like sundaes or banana splits. You can get different types of cones like a waffle cone, or a sugar cone. You can also get it in a regular bowl or waffle bowl. They carry about 16 flavors, across two freezers. They also offer drinks, to-go pints, and coffee, in addition to their hand served ice cream. I got some brown butter almond brittle in a waffle bowl, after sampling it. It was delicious. Their ice cream tasted so fresh and flavorful. It is not the type you get at the grocery store for sure. I ate it on their patio and it did not last long. I will admit that it is a bit pricey. I spent about $17 for 2 waffle bowls of ice cream goodness. I recommend this joint for those looking to get their frozen treat fix. It is located just outside of downtown, but far enough away to give you a bit of a break from the hustle and bustle of downtown life. read more

We went on a Thursday and to protect workers and costumers alike only 5 can be in the store, so there was a decent sized line outside. I've had Jeni's in Nashville and was blown away by the rich creamy taste & creative flavors. This isn't a standard place, their flavor's are unique like Ben & Jerry's. So don't come expecting to get a baskin robins list of flavors. They have maybe 12 amazing mixes. We waited outside for what seemed to be a bit too long but when we got inside we were greeted with a friendly and calm staff who told us their credit card readers were down. That explained the wait. But they said they would manually enter the numbers. With my friends they asked if they wanted to leave a tip which is fine, but I prefer places that just allow you to tip at will. I paid in cash. We sat outside and ate. Lots of teenagers were around which make me nervous. I'm a high school teacher so I'm not a fan of running into students lol. Plus they don't care about personal space during a pandemic. The seating was this large 20 person block but it definitely wasn't ideal for social distancing. I like that they took the BLM stance and displayed it outside the window. To me this isn't political, it is just a common sense human stance on the rights & preservation of the lives of Blacks. So no one should be deterred from coming here. I got the pineapple upside down cake and the new Dolly Parton strawberry white chocolate pretzel. Both were great. I was looking for tart and definitely got that with the pineapple. I like that this is near some decent restaurants. We walked here from Automatic Seafood after dinner. I saw some great reviews of Jeni's and decided to stop by while close to the area. Simple process to ordering and pick-up. At the moment, they are only letting 5 people in which works as it is small. I ordered the half scoops of Gooey Buttercake and Milkiest Chocolate. Both were smooth and very flavorful. Out of the two, I really like the gooey buttercake. I came here with some friends for some ice cream after having lunch down the street. Jeni's is excellent! They are taking proper precautions by limiting capacity. They are also not taking cash, which makes it better and safer. I have had several ice cream flavors from this location. My favorite is the salty caramel. I also have had the lavender and it is so amazing. They did not disappoint at all. I was able to find easy parking at this location and the staff is super friendly and helpful with recommendations. The waffle cones are also delicious. The only downside is that with COVID-19 precautions, there are no samples. However, the good thing is that I have not been steered wrong yet when picking flavors.
