After all that complaining.. my transmission lasted another 6 years after getting it done at Bryan's Transmission. It was like having a new car, but your favorite car, brought back to life. So for that I thank you George. After 6 years my transmission went out again. 100miles from home on a vacation trip. Wife said it was time to buy a new car. So after going to the ford dealership we looked at the 2023 ford explorer, they wanted $52,000 and $775 month for 60months. I was like he'll NO.. I looked up Bryants transmission, the relocated to the East Bay. I called George and was quoted basically the same price i paid 6 years prior. With a new radiator and transmission kit under $4,000. If you like deceitful mechanics a shotty work this is the place ! I took a 4x4 in to have gears and carrier installed in front axle, George made a verbal agreement for $2100 When I went to pick up van, George stated on phone that an $200 extra labor cost was added (This was not authorized). I showed up and paid the full amount thinking the job was done professionally. This is when I noticed the ABS light was on. I looked to see if they forgot to plug some thing in, then I noticed the dust seals were not new and one was cut and glued into place to conceal their work. I realized they were trying to cover something up, I then went to the office to point it out to Ed (mechanic) , who admitted that they tried to reset the light. I demanded they fix the problem with the ABS light and left them to it. They did not fix the problem after installing a new part and said I had to go to a specialist to get it fixed. George then wrote in a work order that they would pay to have it fixed. Another shop had to fix the ABS light problem, then I sent the invoice to George at Bryant Transmission Center. They then refused to honor it. I called George to try to work this out, he refused to take any responsibility for misrepresenting his work and additionally installing old and damaged parts. Bottom line is, they did some ok work and some sleezeball stuff that they tried to cover up. I also found out at they weren't licensed on top of everything (by BAR). So lying to customers is their thing, from the fake "ATRA Golden Rule Warranty" on their web page (I checked, they are not a member), to "we didn't damage that", to "we wont pay for our incompetence". read more

Had some problems with my transmission, known on 1998-02 Hondas and Acura. So I got my transmission replaced at another place with a used. After that it still has problems. So I bring it here. Dropped off my car for about 2 hours and they told me it was a hydraulic problem. They wanted $2200 for repairs, when I already paid over $1000 on it already. When a friend who had the same model car brought his car, that is what they charged him for a complete rebuild on a busted transmission. Great, Patient, and Friendly Customer Service! I've been referred here by a local mechanic, and what he told me about this place is true! This place is 100% honest, inexpensive, and strive to keep their customers satisfied. This place is better than AAMCO or your local dealer! My car's AT intermittantly jerks while shifting. I've called George from the business card I've received and asked how much it would cost to check and diagnose my problem, and he responded saying that there is no cost to it and I could just drop it off whenever I'd like from 10 to 3. Looking at Yelp, the average reviews were 3-4 so I was a bit hesitant of dropping by. I took the mechanic's word about the shop, and was also surprised that the diagnostics was free, so I planned on dropping by the next day to see what's wrong with it. Today I came into the shop and let George know what's going on with my car. George is very easy to talk to unlike other auto shops where mechanics treat you like a teenager and turn away while talking to you. George told me on the spot that the diagnostics and everything is free, and asked me nicely to just sign the release of liability form which is mandatory in any autoshop. He then told me that a guy will move a car out the garage so I can move my car in. I drop off the keys and car with them, and came back in a few hours. Waiting outside in my friends car, I saw one of the members of the crew testing the car, and troubleshooting it with a computer, so I went to run another errand and let them work on my car. I came back an hour later, and George told me that they drove it around for a little bit and didn't feel or see a problem with the car, and that the computer doesn't read any trouble codes. He knows that the problem is intermittent so he told me to drive it around and bring it back in the shop when I start feeling it. I drove it around for half an hour, and felt a few jolts, so I brought it in and George sent one of his guys (apologies for not getting the techs name!) to test drive my car with me. We drove for about 20-30 minutes not feeling a jerk or a problem, because the problem was so rare. The tech was so patient and believed me when I said there was a problem, that he continued to drive around and eventually felt the jerk. The tech had great manners and rejected all his phone calls during the drive. After the tech felt the problem, he drove it back to the shop and ran his computer on it. The computer continued to give no error codes, so he explained that because the problem is so intermittent and wide ranged, diagnosing the vehicle could take days to determine the problem. The tech explained all the possible causes of the problem, and parts that may need to be checked or replaced. We went into the shop and the tech explained to George the problems with the car. George told me the possible causes and suggested that I try to replace certain parts to see if the problem still occurs. As they helped wished me luck on resolving my problems, I asked George if they accepted tips, and he strongly denied in taking it! For 5 hours of work and trying to find the problem, they let me off for free, I still feel guilty! I then told him I'd yelp him then and he agreed :) If anyone is interested in working on their transmission or clutch, I strongly recommend BTC, they are honest, inexpensive and don't stop at trying to fix your vehicle. Be sure to have a gift or something for them cause they won't accept your tips! read more

If I could leave a lower rating I would. Transmission failed on my car and I left it with Bryant. Prescription was a rebuild or a brand new tranny. I opted for the former, since it was a bit cheaper. Was told on Monday that the work would be done by Friday of that week. I thought it was a bit optimistic, but what did I know, maybe these guys were that good. Friday comes, I call and am told that it would be "a few more days." I'm driving a rental all this time as I need to commute to work. Okay, I think, maybe they're busy. A few days later, I call and am told, "the guy" who's been working on it is not in the shop. Odd, I think. "How much longer?" asks I. "Oh, a few more days." Uhh... okay. I'll spare you the drab details. Two weeks total and $2000+ later (they even tacked on additional charges after the fact, parts?), I get my car back. I wish I'd just junked it, or found a more reliable shop. I guess $2000 is less than I'da spent on another or new car. Although with the cost of rental, etc... it's questionable what I should have done looking back. I wonder about the kind of experience the 5-stars have had with Bryant. Maybe George was having a bad couple of weeks when I was dealing with them? Who knows. If I ever have another tranny issue, I'd rather have the tow truck take me down to a reputable shop elsewhere. read more

I actually give these people negative five stars . I made an appointment and explained I why I needed the free tranny check. My car was not running as it was and I was renting another. When I finally my car rbought in they kept my car over five hours and still couldn't tell me what was wrong with it. They had to made some calls and would get back to me. I waited days and called twice. The guy finally told me my car had a leak, which it did not. In fact, he didn't even know which Mercedes I was calling about. When I went to get my car, the information was pertaining to another rmake and model. Mine is a 1971 250 Coupe - how it could be mistaken for an 1990 version is beyond me. In the end he just told me he didn't want to get involved in my suit against his buddy who replaced my tansmission as he made the error if telling me the man generally sent all his transmission work to him. The owner of this garage wasted two weeks and seven hours of my time when he could have told me point blank when I first explained the situation. He is as dishonest as the day is long. Transmissions are pricey and precarious at to begin with to deal with a business that is underhanded is not the way to start out. Having my tranmission replced CORRECTLY cost me over six thousand dollars. This of course, does not incude my time and frustration. AMCO in the Mission RULES ! I was referred to this place by another mechanic. I dropped my car off and they told me they would call me with a diagnosis in 2 to 3 hrs. 5 hours later I called them to see what was up and it seemed as if they had not done a thing since I left. I finally got a call maybe 2 hrs after that and the told me they needed to replace several parts in my tranny and that it would cost min 2000 max 3000 bucks! I thought the damn thing was just out of fluid!! So I took my car to the dealer (different from where I bought) and they fixed the transmission, the radiator and replaced all 4 tires for just over 2000 bucks! These guys wanted to charge me 3000 dollars just to replace some parts in my transmission! come on.... read more

Absolute IDIOTS!!!!!!!! Carlos Auto Services recommended Bryant Transmission Center for me to complete the tune up as he felt that my transmission was a bit slow. I dropped my 2008 Smart car off this morning (02/13/2013) and provided the necessary information. The guy who checked me in saw that it was a Smart car and all that jazz. Four hours later after no communications from the office (despite them telling me they would know something in a couple of hours and would contact me), I called to find out what the verdict was. Well. . .the verdict was. . .they know nothing about working on Smart cars therefore nothing for them to do for me. Ummmm. . .couldn't you have told me this when I was checking in the car in this morning thus saving myself a whole lot of wasted time???? Whoever answered the phone said that they did note that there is a transmission computer update available so better to go to the Smart dealership for this but there was nothing he could do for me. If you have Plenty of time to be without a vehicle then this is the place for you. Brought my 2001 Isuzu Trooper because transmission was about to die. George Cook gave me options to rebuild (2500) or new (3500) transmission. Very little explanation as to the cause but I don't know anything about transmissions so I'm trusting a referral. I chose to have it rebuilt for cost savings and it comes with 2-yr warranty. I was told it would take a week, 5 days since they're closed weekends. Well a week turned into THREE and a half Weeks. He only took off $100 for a car rental. When I got my SUV back, there was an obvious choking noise which occurred randomly, but often, when accelerating. I mentioned this to George and reluctantly brought it back to have them check it out. They did not find anything wrong. A year later, driving across the bridge, transmission "slips" and I could not go faster than 20 mph. The "Check Transmission" light came ON and I immediately but Reluctantly took it to Bryant Transmission. Very little information has been given as to the problem. I was told it would take a few days. Well That was TWO weeks ago. Again, I was given the option to rent a car and get reimbursed $30 a day after the first week. I have been told at least 5 time that my SUV will be ready i.e. tomorrow, only to phone Bryant Trans to find out that it will not be ready. I received my SUV one week later from writing this post. Well, one and 1/2 week later, Same Problem. Now it has been one week and 1/2 since they have been working on my SUV. I phoned George last Weds and he tells me that my SUV will be ready Friday and he would call Thurs. Well, Thurs passes and Friday passes. It's Monday and I never heard from George. When I called on Monday, I was told that it would be ready Tuesday. Here we go again! read more

This is the worst auto repair shop I have ever been to. I came in for transmission replacement for my mercedes, was quoted hundreds of dollars less than what the final bill for the same estimate came out to be. There service was done poorly as I am still feeling rough gear change and concerned if it will go bad anytime soon. They do give warranty but I just don't trust their service anymore. The customer service is the worst of all auto shops, first of all they delayed the pick up time by 2 weeks and no one bothered to call and inform me. I had to call the shop every other day only to hear that it's not ready and told me next day, same story happed for 2 weeks beyond original time frame. That caused me immense stress and missed work. Finally when I picked my car up, it was completely trashed, my seat cover was torn, drawer where I keep change etc was opened and stuff was on the floor. AVOID THIS SHOP AT ALL COST, THE FOLKS WHO RUN AND WORK - GUY NAMED GEORGE AND HIS PARTNERS ARE COMPLETELY DISHONEST, HAVE NO CARE FOR CUSTOMERS AND DO NOT DO QUALITY WORK. read more

I had the transmission on my 2003 Acura TL go out on an otherwise pleasant trip out to Napa. Apparently it's a big issue with Hondas and Acuras from 1999-2006 or thereabouts. George and Ed are a pleasure to deal with. $2700 for a surprise expense like this is no fun, but the car was ready in a few days and all is well now. I came here when my normal mechanic referred me to this place. My transmission was acting up (obviously) and since I trust my mechanic, I came here. Once I came here I admit I got nervous. The amount of cars waiting for either service or for the free diagnostic test was insane. But they said two hours. So while I waited I checked this place out on Yelp and got even more nervous as some of the reviews are less than stellar. But I have nothing but positive things to say. My check was very thorough, I watched. From checking all the codes, to a test drive to putting it up on a lift, they spent quite a bit of time on my car. Then they did another test drive. After all that turns out I was just low on fluid (phew) and it only cost me a few bucks since the fluid is cheap and the testing was free. My car runs perfectly now and the man who helped me out was very informative. My bro back east used to always take care of my car issues, so after any trip to the mechanic I call him to see if what he think of my service, treatment, etc and he was pleased with how they handled it. So if it's good enough for my big brother's baby sister, I would say this place must be ok. read more

I spent $4,000 for a new transmission 3.5 years ago. After nearly 40,000 miles it's gone bad. The warranty is for 2 years/24,000 miles. I would find another transmission company. Ridiculous - 40K miles. Transmissions should last at least 100K miles. read more

I am usually very picky when selecting service providers, especially for potentially expensive services. I went to Bryant Transmission Center because there is another car (engine) shop that gets rave reviews on Yelp (straight 5 stars out of 33 reviews) and they routinely refer their own customers to Bryant Transmission Center. In a word, they are great, competent, friendly, and of the highest integrity. (OK, I know that's more than one word.) They performed for a free a thorough and honest diagnostic on my car; explained to me what they found; and what my options were without trying to sell me on their services. (They even provided recommendations for what to do if I decide not to have them repair my transmission, so as to prolong its life.) Very competent, upstanding, and great guys to deal with all around. read more

I knew already that i needed a new transmission and i mentioned i would be putting the car for sale as soon as the repairs were done. He immediately offered to sell me a used one for 1900 and guarantee it for 6 months. I said no thank you and left. Bryant Transmission is just down to the street from where i work so i thought i'd give it a shot. I'm glad I did. George gave me an estimate of 1900-2400 and a two year warranty. He already knew what was going on with my year and make transmission. The car was ready a few days later and it runs great. And i paid 2070. Only place i'll ever go for tranny work. read more

RAM 1500 incredible after three years I found out they used the wrong differential parts and my rear end leaks oil today. During, The first year I had problems had to bring my truck back three times to fix the noisey rear end caused from not properly sealing the oil fill plug. During the winter water filled my rear end and my diff wore out. No I would not recomend this shop I lost my time and money. read more

After an afternoon in their shop our truck was tranny sick and they said it would be 14-2400 to rebuild. Now I have family in SO CAL that run shops so I know that this is under the going rate for a difficult job. We are saving up for the work and will return to them. Side Note: Seems like the 3 odd bad reviews all have one thing in common, they are unhappy about the price. Pathetic place to complain about the cost of doing business if you ask me. I dropped in early in the morning with a list of what I thought could be major issues with my old van's transmission. They said they'd check it out and to come back at the end of the day. I have to admit, getting good news may have something to do with the good review. They were very honest and did not charge me a dime to look at my vehicle. I appreciated the level of knowledge and experience with old Dodge vehicles. Opening up a transmission should only be done when it is absolutely necessary, and after the road test and diagnosis, I was reassured to know that the transmission seemed to be working just fine. I chose this place because they specialize in the most complicated part of a vehicle. I know that having it maintained is vital to avoiding very costly repairs down the road. It seems that the people who have a little bit of knowledge about cars are the ones giving good reviews. This is why I chose this shop. The bad reviews seem to think that a transmission is something that can be rebuilt in a day. I mean, it's possible... But that is after diagnosing the problem, tearing it down with thousands of different parts, finding more worn out or broken things, trying to stay withing the quoted price, ordering more parts, rebuild kits, assembling it, often needing to get a special part because the original one no longer fits in the damaged casing, getting all of those parts flushed clean, testing it... Do you see why it is the one thing I refuse to work on myself? It is not easy to find this type of specialist. I'm just sayin. Perhaps there are some egitimate bad reviews, but you can't just drop your car off and expect same-day transmission rebuilds. I'm writing this because they deserve a higher score. George is a transmission/valve body 'Rock Star'. About two months ago my girlfriend's Saturn began to reverse slam (e.g. hard jolt when changing gears from park to reverse or drive to reverse). To be safe I checked the transmission fluid and everything checked out. Out of convenience and necessity I took it to the Saturn Dealership to get a diagnostic test. $175 later, they told me that I needed to change the valve body - something that would cost me north of $1400 to fix labor + parts. *Jaw dropper*. I'm thinking on KBB the car itself is worth $3000-$4000. I found a few great Yelp reviews and saw Larry's review and figured I'd give Bryant a call. Even when I stumbled on non-transmission mechanics to ask for transmission quotes they all referred me to George. Dropped the car the day of and got it back the next day. Out the door less than $700. It was smooth sailing. Within 3 days the car started reverse slamming again. We brought it back to George and he took care of it - new valve body -. No charge Month later the only thing we get now when we reverse? - 'Phantom Slams', we've yet to psychologically recover from them. Thanks George! read more

AVOID if you want efficiency or at least professionalism in communication -- car has been in and out for weeks - work not completed properly initially (following a delay of two weeks when the car was just kept in their shop without any communication except the one excuse that service men were calling in sick) - well two weeks later of rental car fees, I get my car back and the work was not done properly - had to bring it back in with the promise that the issue would be corrected that day and another week went by - again, another week of rental car hassle and wasted time -- there must be better places!!!!!! read more

Horrible! My transmission went out on my last car and I was not pleased with this place at all. The desk in the office was OVERWHELMED with papers everywhere....absolutely no organization. It was overpriced, and my car began stuttering a few months later. When I took it back to have it checked, they said nothing was wrong with it, even though I know it was stuttering....then the great part: THEY BACKED MY CAR INTO ANOTHER CAR. They rebuilt my transmission just fine. But failed three times to fix a leak it sprung a week later. I got so tired of taking it back to them after so much time that I eventually fell out of warranty. So, The last time they tried again they charged me $125 and failed yet again. I issued a dispute with my credit card but they failed to refund my money. Don't say you can fix something charge for it, then fail and refuse to return the money. Bad customer loyalty! I had a bad experience with this shop. They told me the same story, leave car for 2-3 hours, we'll have a diagnoses ready and such. After 5 hours and two calls, nothing. After walking to the shop late in the afternoon all they could tell me was is that something wasn't right. I agree that this place is terribly disorganized and dirty and they had way too many cars to pay attention to my car. George should simply finish work on 10 cars or so and free up so room to work. I am in no way mechanically inclined and understand that finding an honest mechanic can be a daunting task. I chose Bryant transmission on the recommendation of a friend and I had a terrific experience. I brought my all wheel drive BMW in to get looked at because it was leaking fluid and I was nervous that something was seriously wrong with the transmission. The first person I met at Bryant's was George. He was very friendly and after hearing that I was pressed for time, he squeezed me in immediately. He was quick to get back to me and said that there were no major problems that he could see. I was still concerned because of the puddle I found under my car so he took the extra step to take the it apart and check the fluid levels. He reported back they they were ok for the most part and even topped them off to be safe. When I went to retrieve my car and asked for the bill George told me not to worry about it, he had filled the fluids and cleaned up the surrounding area for free and assured me that if I still felt there was a problem that I should bring it back in two weeks and he would check again to make sure everything was ok. Bryant Transmission Center is an honest shop and George is a great guy. It's very refreshing to find someone that is more concerned with your satisfaction and safety than making a quick buck... I have a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid with a bad CVT...These are very complex transmissions. I called other shops that quoted me less, but they would rebuild it. Then I spoke with George at Bryant transmissions. He was very honest and told me these transmissions are difficult to rebuild. He would get a rebuilt transmission from Honda, install it and give me a three-year 36,000 mile warranty backed by Honda. It wasn't cheap...$4K! Yes, I could save a few bucks by going to another shop, but I didn't want trouble down the road. He is very honest as well his partner Ed. The car runs beautiful. They may not be the cheapest, but they're the best. I would definitely go back again or recommend to my friends. read more

Excellent transmission service - they kept at the mysterious problem with my 2004 Jetta wagon until it was fixed. It took two tries - they'd released it to me, but I returned it ASAP because it was acting up again. They finally found the problem and paid for the new parts themselves (a complete set of solenoids) without complaint - because as George (the owner) said "once we release a car it's released" meaning the warranty is ticking the second you roll out the door. So they get 5 stars for transmission service. They get three stars overall because a LARGE new dent appeared on my (fairly dented) car when it was in their hands. I will find out if they will step up and fix it - so the stars are going up or down depending. read more
