Thank God for online reservations! We were on our way to the 17-Mile Drive but knew we needed to get lunch before starting. We were about 1.5 hours away and needed to plan accordingly, so I went on their website to make a reservation. Thankfully, I was able to reserve a table for five people at 12:45 p.m. As soon as we arrived, I gave them my name, and they let me know I would receive a text when our table was ready. We only waited about 5-10 minutes, which was nothing compared to the wait we probably would have had if we had just walked up. We ended up getting a window seat, which was wonderful since we were celebrating my MIL's birthday. Maddy greeted us immediately and was extremely friendly and quick throughout our entire dining experience. She stayed on top of refills and all of my many requests. For some reason, the water had a really bad taste to me, so I had to keep asking for different ones until she eventually offered bottled water. I really appreciated how helpful and quick she was. She had a few other tables, but she was 100% on top of every request. I really, really loved her service. For appetizers, we ordered the Ceviche. I would give it 2/5 stars. This was not a traditional ceviche where the seafood is cooked in lime juice. The shrimp appeared to be cooked first and then mixed with the seasoning. There was also not nearly enough lime or lemon flavor for my liking. I would not order this again. I ordered the Jambalaya. Overall, it was good and had a nice amount of spice, even for me, but that is expected with jambalaya. The shrimp were a little overcooked, so I would give this one 3/5 stars. My MIL ordered the Forrest Seafood Feast. She substituted the hush puppies for mashed potatoes and loved everything that came with it. She gave it 4/5 stars. My husband ordered the Shrimper's Heaven. He liked all the shrimp except for the regular fried shrimp, which he felt was a little too heavily breaded. Overall, he would give it 4/5 stars. We let Maddy know it was my MIL's birthday, and she was VERY enthusiastic about letting her know she had a surprise. Just like they did for several other guests that day, they came over and sang "Happy Birthday" to her. It was a great experience from making the reservation all the way to the end of our meal. I LOVED it all. Thank you, Maddy!

Tasty or WasteY??? Totally WASTEY!!!!! We come here every 5 years. Only because we're hoping they clean the place up. We often refer to restaurants like this as, sticky tables! Not only is it way too loud in there that you can't even have conversation, let alone hear yourself think, but the tables are so dirty, and they smell like mildew from the dirty towels that they wipe them down with. The food is so dry and oily and disgusting. It's worse than bar food. This is just a novelty restaurant. Save your money.... Skip the food... And just buy a T-shirt.

Stopped by here after a long day at the aquarium for a drink. It was cute and drinks are definitely strong haha. We were the only ones at the bar and got great service from the bartender she kept checking to make sure we were doing alright. We felt might as well go for the souvenir cup drinks since we were there definitely on the sugary side so if you don't like the taste of alcohol you'll definitely love those. Price was reasonable especially for the souvenir drinks. The bartender even though she was busy took the time to get us clean new and wrapped souvenir cups. Overall you are getting what you are paying for, definitely an iconic spot You want to really hit a staple tourist spot in Monteray this is the spot it started to fill up and get busy once we left.

Always a good time at bubba gump. Good food , the best service, and fun vibe. Some drinks come with glasses or shakers you can take home. They have a cute gift shop to browse through. If you're a fan of the movie you can take a trivia quiz.

Always a great place to take kids because it's a loud place. The wait is usually around 20 minutes every time we stop by. We like the selection of drinks and food. The kids like the pirate ship their food comes in. The staff are friendly and food is good. Parking you have to do on the street unfortunately, but that is everything on Cannery Row.

As long time fans of Forrest Gump we appreciate Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, maybe a little more than they deserve. My lovely bride also takes great pride in saying she was in the opening crew at the Monterey Bubba Gump, back in 1996 when they were first started. And Monterey was the first of all the Gumps. So we've been back a few times over those 30 years. Quality can be hit or miss but this time it was quite good. We had a large party of 8 but we got great waterfront seats. We had a mix of foods all which were good to great. Calamari starter was a little mid, but almost everything else was a big hit. We had a Cajun Seafood Boil, Two Cajun Mahi Mahi and Shrimp with Mashed Potatoes (and a substituted rice). One kids popcorn shrimp. And a Makers Mark salmon. The food was on par. The service was fine on a somewhat busy evening but the server did neglect some of the fun aspects of being at Forrest Gump. (Like movie trivia and such). We finished with a lava cake with ice cream which we devoured in moments. All in all a good experience on a nice night in Monterey. It's a firm 4.

First time at this location! Super impressed. Came for hubby's 62nd birthday. Great service from Maddy! Girl YOU ROCK! Food was really good and the manager is friendly. Beautifully decorated restaurant with a breathtaking view!

The food was good! Very cool restaurant, it's been years since I been here and it still doesn't dissapoint. Friendly staff and delicious food with an ocean view! Love it.

It wasn't too busy for a Friday afternoon. We didn't have to wait for a party of 2. We started with the queso dip and chips, which I'd give a 5/5. Gooey queso with thin, warm & perfectly salted chips: no complaints there. I ordered the gumbo bowl and my husband got the clam chowder bread bowl. My gumbo was so good! The service was also quick and friendly.

I would definitely recommend this place. We had a server name, Anthony he was very kind and attentive. I would definitely be going back because he had extremely great customer service. We did have a little trivia moment of the movie. Everybody and other tables had a great time as well. The food hit the spot didn't take too long price was definitely worth it. Great view of the ocean as well!

The food isn't amazing. It's very good, however, and once you properly set your expectations, then you can simply enjoy the novelty experience! Customer service is always top notch here. But I must share the low quality turn of a majority of other restaurants was not experienced here. Erik was our server and he did a wonderful job. (Sorry I can't give credit to the previous servers.) 1/16/26: View from our seat. The outdoors weather in a California winter today is 73 degrees. Freaking love it! We are guaranteed to order their popcorn shrimp. Other notable items are their jambalaya, Bourbon street Mahi Mahi and Cajun shrimp, and The Shrimpers Heaven. Lastly, they've got cool souvenir cups! Fun trivia fact: The girl who wouldn't let kid Forrest sit beside her is Tom Hank's actual daughter, E.A. Hanks!

I did not expect to give Bubba Gump Shrimp a 5-Star review. I've seen them in loads of high traffic vacation spots and assumed they would be on par with the scores of other Theme Restaurants. We had spent the morning at the Aquarium and wanted a late lunch that would provide a view of Monterey Bay. I took a look at our options and decided to give BGS a try. We got a table at the window looking out at the bay and couldn't have been happier. The menu had loads of options. I got Jambalaya and my wife had Fish and Chops. They were both outstanding! Perhaps our tastes are pretty simple but I simply couldn't find fault with those two meals. The service crew was first rate and attentive to our needs. It was a great Tuesday and I would recommend this restaurant for a fun time without exception.

I will just say this was a very disappointing experience. When we arrived, no one was there. When the greeter did come, she hesitantly approached us and handed us a paper printed menu in a dark, empty restaurant, which immediately felt off to us. When our food was served, several items were served cold and lacked flavor. The catfish was barely seasoned and watery, while the chicken had this "special" barbecue sauce but no taste, the Mac and cheese was straight from a box, and was gummy like, and the greens tasted super watered down. The cornbread was extremely hard, and there were white particles floating in the water. Even basic items like the salt container were unusable, sticking to the container. The owner spoke with our group and hyped the restaurant up, but the food and overall experience did not match what was coming out of his mouth. I also noticed everyone else received cornbread with their meal while I did not. Assuming it came with the meal (since me and my brother ordered the exact same thing) I was later charged an extra $6 for it without being informed. Based on the food quality and overall experience, I won't be returning. If zero stars were an option, that's what I'd give.

Send me home hungry and bill me $$$ for 2, at least i get to stay in my PJs. I'm glad I stuck through with the original plan and was blown away by the endless mindfuck of plates that permanently altered my brain chemistry. In all seriousness, the menu itself doesnt seem too special: crabcakes, ceasar salad, creme brulee. Very unassuming and no real twists to it. BUT -- everything was executed to PER-FECT-SHUN and I found myself just shy of licking every. frikkin'. plate clean. No stone left unturned - in this case, not a single kernel of corn or garnish was left uneaten. I'll jump right to the food: - Half dozen raw oysters: honestly might be the more underwhelming dish of the meal only because the oysters didn't have much flavor. No brine. No sweet. The mignonette was so great though! it gave the oysters what it needed. Add a flake of salt and we're cookin'. - Caesar salad: Good all around. The assembly is what made it so over-the-top. The classic caesar but with ribbons of parm, light and fresh anchovies, whole thinly sliced loaf of crouton that held that salad up like a house of cards but crumbles to touch. I was picking up every crumb that tumbled off to the table and was audibly slurping the ribbons of parmesan. - Crabcakes: Not just another crabcake. The batter was crunchy but didn't make the dish heavy. a cooling and smooth avo creme. but OH MY GOD the grilled corn on the plate really made the dish shine! It added a nice sweet pop and smokiness that made the dish more complex. Not even assembled in a cute pile, just scattered little kernels on a plate got me out here picking them up one-by-one like a mere peasant dusting the sidewalk for nickels. yes, humble me chef. I had to apologize to the waitress who cleared my plate for how embarrassingly clean my plate was. - Thai mussels: A cliche of a mussel dish on every modern menu. I've had a lot of versions of this dish and this plate wowed me in that the mussels were simply cooked perfectly. the sauce was not thin, not too pulpy nor salty. The sauce actually penetrated the mussels. The mussels were fresh, and no empty shells, which is a low bar but so common to see these days. There might even be a couple straggling that i was able to fish from the bottom. Just a clean dish overall. The fries were the perfect accompaniment. The walls of the extra starchy and crispy fries grabbed alot of the sauce for dipping. So smart. - Beef cheeks: Perfect textures all around. It feels wrong to complain at this point but I wanted more unctuousness from the protein. The beef was actually a backdrop to the polenta and mushrooms. i wanted more fat, more melty gelatinous tendon bites. what it produced though was a perfect fancy gravy for the polenta - so creamy and perfectly seasoned. A leafy green here and there. The maitaki mushrooms were cooked perfectly, not greasy. I was really just scraping the plate for the polenta and grabbing a bite of beef cheeks as sauce. Not a bad way to live by any means. - Acai sorbet: I almost never order dessert at a restaurant. It tends to disspoint and overpriced but i have never trusted a chef so much with a full meal so of course i got TWO desserts. The acai was accompanied with raspberries and granola. Super fresh and light. The acai broke apart upon touch, didnt slide around eventhough it's on a plate, but the plate choice was nicely textured to grip the icy sorbet (WHY AM I THINKING ABOUT THEIR PLATE CHOICE??) Gronola was not clunky and added a (rice) crispiness rarely found in granola. Such great care and attention to detail. - Orange and Tarragon Creme Brulee: I looked at the creme brulee with distain. Why did we order a 2nd dessert when the acai sorbet was already perfect. Orange and tarragon sounds like they're trying to sound "complex" but rarely delivers on balance and impact. I cracked the torched sugar top and gave it a chance, knowing that i havent been dissapointed tonight yet... and CUE the hallelujah angels choirs. I looked my partner in the eye and audibly said "YUMMMM... TRY. THIS. NAOOO.". We switched from the acai to the creme brulee and never stopped until the sides were hallowed out and every crystal of torched sugar was scraped off the walls. The torched sugar top cracked with ease and stayed CRISPYYYY the whole time. The custard was smooth, thick but light, and packed with orange flavor that was fiercely tempered by the herbaceous tarragon. The one sliver of orange peel candy was not supposed to wow me with it's texture and left me wondering how they managed to get the cracker-like crackle without too much sugar and not leave it leathery?? What a way to end a meal. On my way home, I got a twinge of the orange peel left in my teeth and it instantly brought me back to the magic that was the Mission Bistro. and it was HOT.

Right in the marina where dozens of boats are parked. Window views of the marina are easy to be had, just one big long room really. Old school traits: the crowd on a weekday lunch was 80% seniors, most seemed local as I can tell by their banter. The rest of the peeps were regulars who seemed to have a routine. The menu is seriously basic seafood town ie chowders, louie salads, seafood that can be griddled, fried or sauteed. Solid cooks that can execute clean plates. And the clincher old school trait Sandbar had, was a bowl by the entrance/exit they gave away free match boxes with their logo. I haven't seen that in decades! It hit home for me cuz I used to collect restaurant/bar matchbooks in my younger years. So crazy to run into them again as they are no longer normalized. Glass Sauvignon Blanc ($10/5*) Perfectly chilled, fruity without being sweet, great balance. Went great with bites of the seafood throughout the meal. Clam Chowder ($8/cup/4*) Solid. Creamy and thick but not excessively stodgy. Good clams and potato ratio. But very herb-y, as in dry herbs cooked into the soup. Great with the sliced sourdough given upon seating. Calamari Appetizer ($14/3.5*) For some reason I thought this was going to be deep fried breaded calamari, the cut tubes along with a few tentacles. But this was thick, bite-sized squares cut from a big calamari steak. It was breaded in fresh bread crumbs and lightly fried, so no significant crispness. Just a mild and soft breaded exterior. I had to salt it and dip it in either tartar or cocktail sauce. It was fine but I was just looking for something more flavorful and crisp. I still enjoyed it, just threw me for a loop. Lunch Sand Dabs ($23/4*) I was torn cuz I wanted to try their special of the day which was a Halibut dish with a Tomatillo Butter Sauce; but I also wanted something very basic and local. It doesn't get any more Monterey than local sand dabs, which is like a small flounder that is mild and delicate. I also overheard multiple tables around me order it, so I simply couldn't dismiss the local's consensus. I did like that it was super plain where the fish fillets were allowed to shine. But after the first initial few bites, I was just wishing there were something else to elevate the fish, like a butter sauce or wine/parsley sauce. It did have a side of tartar sauce, which theirs is good with big hunks of capers and celery. But I just thought a warm sauce of some sort would have soaked into the fish nicely. Served with brown rice pilaf that had good flavor but was a bit too al dente for me, crunchy rice isn't my jam. But I took some of the fish home, and I made a quick 30 second garlic lemon butter sauce that indeed went well with delicate fish. So I was able to get some serious satisfaction after all. Irish Coffee ($15/5*) It was a cool and grey day, so I opted on this for dessert. Theirs is as old school as it gets, so it was perfect. Great way to end a meal, belly happy, sipping a well made coffee cocktail whilst watching the boats float on by. As a passing tourist, Sandbar did me just fine. They gave me the flavors and charm of Monterey without being around a ton of other tourist. More off the beaten path which is how I like to roll.
