Always look at the wood pile at a BBQ joint.
    Erick D.

So I've been wanting to try this place since it opened, but held off to try them when things slowed down some. The place is well done with an open layout and appears to have a sports bar vibe. Maybe a good thing the Famous Sam's on the other corner of the shopping center is closed. I was a little surprised by the prices for beer as they seemed high like $8 for an import like Dos Equis. I always check out a BBQ joint's wood pile if I'm able to find it. Their wood pile is on the north side of the restaurant. I was glad to see it appear to be tidy, well kept, and off the ground. It took me a few minutes to get to the counter to order as I don't believe the ordering process is streamlined and the staff seemed new/unfamiliar with many things. When I asked what kind of wood they used she said what they can get. This is an issue. Your staff should know what's used to make the food. They smoke with mesquite and pecan per the manager. I grabbed a table towards the back and noticed a drink stain and a few other items left on the table by a previous patron. They had a few staff members floating around the dining room area and the restaurant wasn't busy so they had time to wipe the table. I needed to ask to get it done. When I come into a new BBQ restaurant I try to get the smallest quantities of all the meats. I got the Dino beef rib, pulled pork, a sausage link, and some brisket. The counter person didn't know how to get the brisket in the order, but she got some help from the manager. The meat for the most part was done very well. The Dino Rib didn't have the membrane pulled off so that was good to see. It had a nice bark with a lot of black pepper. From what I can tell it was more than just a basic salt, pepper, garlic (SPG) seasoning. The brisket was cooked to the desired doneness and bent perfectly. It was good brisket. The pulled pork was good, but could have benefited from a dusting of rub after plating. The sausage was good, but not the grind I prefer in a BBQ sausage. The close up photo of the sausage shows the grind which reminds me of bologna texture. The fries are a nice crinkle cut fries which I asked for well done and they could have been fried for a bit longer. The mac & cheese was just OK. It looked like the torched the top for a second which gives it a nice look, but the flavor wasn't there with rich mac & cheese. Not a rich cheese sauce at all. They have 3 kinds of BBQ spices Bubba Que, spicy, and a mango you need to ask for. When I picked up my food, I wasn't given utensils and had to return to the counter to ask for them. Good BBQ but some room for improvement to make things more streamlined.

This place has great potential! It's in a great spot I think there is more to the place that eventually will build up and be great for the surrounding community. My take on my first visit - and my first Tucson spot since I have been on the road for the past 10 months. Food is good but needs some love in the Mac and cheese and overall flavor of all the items. The simplest of seasonings are missing from your Mac and cheese. Meat was good but needed to be sauced up to really make them enjoyable, without the sauce you are missing tha flavor. Macaroni Salad was on point tho! Just some picky points for me! - I hate the one door, from a safety aspect you need that double entry and exit. - I hate plastic utensils - plastic tongs are for a catering service, to be tossed out, get some metal service ware. Even if you keep using plastic silverware, your condiments station should be metal. - make sure all your condiment stations at the tables are filled, from sauce to salt, no one shouldn't need to get up and track down a salt shaker. - none of your soda stations should be out. As a certified food safety manager, if I ever saw my employee wearing slides and socks, they wouldn't be with me for very long. I would make sure that my uniform standard is consistent from manager to brand new employee. Place looks good tho! Growing up two minutes away I have seen this place been multiple things, so it awesome to see it get a new life!

What a nice surprise. We came to Tucson for U of A graduation and made the drive to the south side to check this place out. We are admittedly bbq snobs so we had to have the brisket as the true test. Yum. It's hand sliced and super tender and moist. The rub was there but not overpowering and the smokey flavor was subtle. The crinkle fries are good and the potato salad was decent as well. The portions are reasonable sizes, not huge. The slice of buttered Texas toast was a nice touch. The employees were all warm and friendly and clearly wanted to ensure that the meal was very good. Special mention for Bianca who delivered my tray to me. And to the owner Ben who sought out real feedback on the food and the experience. The space is large and the tables were clean. And the long bar that must have been there before was a nice touch. The only drawback was static on occasion from the music. But they are open to resolving that. Tucson has needed good bbq and this fits the bill.

Good energy here from the staff and their social media really does give you a look at the enthusiasm. I did make my way down Campbell to BubbaQue. I have the pork ribs, fries and slaw. Price was really quite fair. As I am splitting my time between Tucson and Austin right now you can see on my other posts I have been hitting the big boys out here in Austin. BubbaQue does a good job. But Tucson is not Austin.

Lots of seating options.. big place

Pretty great first experience and I will definitely be back! I have been eyeing this building in my neighborhood and noticed the subtle remodel and looked forward to the grand opening. It is hard to find good bbq in Tucson but these guys are definitely doing it. Stopped in for lunch on Friday and throughly enjoyed our meal. You do order at the counter and the service was friendly and fast. Lots of tables to sit at, self serve drinks and condiments station. Our food came out pretty quickly. I was also able to order beers at the bar to take to the table. Everything was delicious but the brisket stands out with this amazing crispy crust/bark and wood smoked flavor , moist and juicy and just fine without sauce although both bbq sauces are good. My bf who is definitely a meat snob was even impressed and we both left super full and satisfied. The price was good and the atmosphere pleasant. Lots of parking out front and easy to get in and out. I will definitely be back and am super excited to have these guys so close to my hood. Check them out!

Let's start with the inside of this place. Very clean and had a nice vibe. Everyone was pleasant and efficient. You order when you first come in and they will bring your food to you. I ordered the catfish with collard greens and Mac n cheese. All plates come with Texas toast. The greens were absolutely amazing and made to perfection. Good chunks of pork and perfectly cooked. I did ask for more vinegar, but that's because I love vinegar. The catfish was good and typical. Would have liked it a little thicker and a tad crunchier. The Mac n cheese was tasty, but not traditional southern Mac n cheese. My hubby got the brisket and sausage combo and the brisket was nice and moist. The sausage was typical southern sausage. The beans were very tasty and enjoyable. There is also a veggie bar with pickled onions, jalapeños, pickles, and peppers. The drinks are fountain drinks or bottled drinks, plus there is a full bar. I will definitely be back again, especially for those delicious collard greens.

Food truck turned brick and mortar- and yesss and thank you! Dang good bbq- we tried the pork combo plate and the brisket combo plate. The brisket was tender with just the perfect marbling. The pork was was tender and savory. The Mac and cheese side was a different take on it and one of my favorites now. Crispy fries and sweet potato fries. The bbq sauces are good but I didn't need it as the meats are savory as is. Large space. Counter service and quick. Grand opening is in 2 weeks. There are items that aren't on the menu till then. Good prices and portion sizes. Will be returning again.... And again.

The DYNO RIB is amazing and is in a league of its own, fall off the bone juicy and the house BBQ sauce is insanely good! WILL BE COMING BACK AGAIN! Tucson has good BBQ finally! VERY GOOD SPOT

They had a free photo opt near the bar. We had an awesome experience.

"Grand Opening" of the family owned, "Bubba Que" and boy was it hopping today. My daughter ordered me a combo plate of smoked brisket, succulent pulled pork and pork ribs that tasted amazing alone or with the bubba / spicy bbq sauce. I got the mac-n-cheese and greens full of shredded ham, which went well with the meats and texas toast. Fantastic food, nice atmosphere and stellar service from all. Was told by "Mama Lotta", there's apple, cherry and peach pie on the menu for dessert. Maybe next time! We walked out of there full, extremely satisfied and even took home leftovers for later. We "WILL" be back.

Places are successful because they stay the course and do what they do best. Today we went with the four meat platter, perfect amount for two people, brisket, pulled pork, turkey and sausage. With four side of coleslaw, mac and cheese, potato salad and cornbread. All meats are still sauced unless requested "on the side", but not so much to overwhelm the meat taste. Juicy flavorful pulled pork. Delicious smoked turkey. Brisket was just slightly dry but the sauce and nice bark made it enjoyable. The sausage was AMAZING, juicy and packed with flavor. Coleslaw in my opinion, could use a little more "wetness" but it was still delicious. What can I say about the mac and cheese and potato salad, people from the south, Texas to the Carolina's just know how to get it done. The "Texas Sweet Tea", if you are a diabetic do not drink, however this is a true southern tea, it's done the same all across the south, sugar with some tea thrown in. Four meats, four sides and two drinks with tip $50, not bad for two people, I've definitely spent more for food that didn't even come close to this. Once again Smoky Mo you did not disappoint. If you are a BBQ person this is STILL the best of Tucson. Get out and support this small local business!

We are not in Texas but Tucson is close enough. Who doesn't like some good ole BBQ?…read more Here is what we ordered: - The Bashful Tray for 2 for $47. It comes with 1/2 lb sliced brisket, 1/2 lb of other meat of your choice, 3 sides, half a sour pickle and a smoked crack pie). The friendly cashier informed us the sausages were an additional $3 today so we decided to add it to our order as well. My major complaint about BBQ is dry, tough and overly salty meats. OMG, this was the most tender and juicy brisket I have ever had. And don't get me started on the pulled pork, it was perfectly seasoned. Just wished I had it on a bun instead. My son went crazy for the Sonoran spicy sausage. My favorite side was the dill potato salad. I had to ask, Toby the owner, where the cute name, Bashful Bandit Barbecue comes from. He said I was asking some great questions. Lol. Place used to be a biker's bar. When he took over he decided to just keep the name. We had a lovely and engaging conversation with him. Mac n cheese and beans were just OK from what I was told. I ate a couple bites of each of the sausages, coleslaw, potato salad and a bite of the pie. Sausages were just OK for me. I loved the coleslaw and thought the potato salad was very dill pickle-y but delicious. The one thing that truly stand out for me: EXCELLENT customer service. The staff was so helpful in helping us choose items and they really seemed to care about whether their guests are enjoying the experience.

While, I don't live under a rock. I do live on the complete opposite side of town from Rudy's so I've never actually eaten there before but I had an appointment today about a quarter of a mile away, so took the opportunity to give it a try. I was immediately greeted by a person in what must be the store area and when I looked a little confused, she asked if I had ever been here before when I said no she told me how to go around the corner. Check out the menu and order from there. This is where we hit my five star experience. I came at a good time at about 3:30 so there weren't any other people standing in line. I stood to the side and checked out the menu and was a little confused by the brisket options. One said lean brisket and one said moist brisket I went to the counter and ask the girl at the register, (Diana) what the difference was. She asked me if I had ever been to Rudy's and when I said no, she said, very excitedly well, let me give you a sample of each of them and then went on to explain the lean brisket was just that and the moist brisket was just the opposite more fat, but more flavor. Each had a good flavor, but I went with the moist brisket as well as pulled pork. The menu shows orders in half pound increments however Diana told me I could get as much or little as I wanted. She said she's had people get as little as an eighth of a pound or something as strange as 5 2/3 pound. I liked that flexibility because I was a little torn with feedthree people if a half pound would not be enough or a full pound of each would be too much. She then explained to me if I wanted a cold side they were in a self-serve refrigerator to the side and also offered me samples of those. My BF is very picky about coleslaw and potato salad so I took a sample of each. Both were good so I went with both. She also offered me hot samples and recommended the creamed corn. But since it was 109° outside I passed on those. She said my order would come with bread a choice of either white or wheat sliced. And I could have as many slices as I needed. She then filled me in on the Fixin's bar, which had cherry peppers, jalapeños, and carrots, onions, pickles, and an assortment of condiments, like mustard, mayonnaise and horseradish. I chose a large drink to enjoy on the drive home and she recommended the sweet tea or an Arnold Palmer. I really can't say enough great things about Diana. Not only was she helpful, but she was so outgoing and friendly and seemed to really love her job which you don't see a lot anymore. I'll update my review once we have a chance to eat our food, but I would seriously go into Rudy's again just to talk to Diana. As my grandma would say, she's a treasure.

Black Market BBQ is, quite simply, the best BBQ I've found in Tucson since moving here 4 years ago…read more My favorites are their ribs and their brisket, both of which have been excellent almost every time I've visited them. The ribs and brisket are so good they don't need any sauce added, but Black Market provides sauce for those who want it. They also have chicken and pulled pork. They don't always have burnt ends or sausages but, when they do, they're amazing. Their sides are quite good too, but I usually stick with the mac n cheese, which is my favorite. Brooks, the owner, runs a well-oiled machine. The portions are generous and the prices are fair. They're a food truck, so you'll have to follow them on social media to find out where they'll be but it's definitely worth the trip. I usually catch them at Caps & Corks at the corner of W River Rd and W Orange Grove Rd. Give them a try. You won't regret it.

I liked the Bbq sauce even though it was sweet, I generally like it a little vinegary. 2.. They are a well oiled machine for 2 people cranking out foo that is good and quick. 3. The sides I had Mac and cheese salty, way salty to emphasize and bland. The Coldslaw was the same. Next time I'm just gonna do the meat. I admire their enthusiasm and I hope they improve the sides.
