Was there on Monday for late lunch. The food was fantastic - we had the pork tenderloin sandwich and chicken strips - both hand breaded made from scratch - nothing processed. We both agreed it was really good. Our waitress was also great! Good sense of humor, very attentive and was very knowledgeable about what was on the menu. Would eat there often if we lived near by - but will always stop there when we go through Clinton. Great hidden gem on S. Second Street. One comment - needed a little more light in the dining room - I have poor eyesight and reading the menu was a challenge - but in their defense- i did not ask if a large print menu was available. We drove an hour to try this place on a Sunday and it was well worth the trip for the food. It is a tiny old store front with simple but cute decor. We had the eggs Benedict and ham/egg/cheese crepes. Both were delicious! The bathrooms were run down and "looked dirty", but the men's room needs maintenance. read more

Yum, yum and more yum! Outstandingly on all levels with excellent entrees and superb service. Stopped by on a late Saturday afternoon and ordered the steak and shrimp special and the fried cod dinner. Our dinners included homemade vegetable soup and a trip to the salad bar. The salad bar was clean, fresh and cold. My steak was tender and cooked perfect with onions and mushrooms. The home fries were delicious and the cod was the best we have had in years. Nice small town diner. Staff was seasoned veterans and while lots of other reviews seemed to have issues with the service I found it on par with smaller diners. A little slow but your there to relax and enjoy a meal. I had the Bubba and mama special which is 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and hash browns. The eggs were cooked to order not just a mash of existing scrambled eggs. The biscuit was average guessing not fresh but not bad. The gravy was thick and white but very bland. My husband and I were looking for a new place to try for lunch because we always go to the same place every time we come to Clinton. After reading all the great reviews, we decided to try this place. Big mistake. We waited FOREVER. We probably should have left after we waited 25 minutes and we saw that there were three tables ahead of us and they still hadn't received their food yet. It was kind of busy in there and there was only one waitress taking orders and serving the food. I think there was probably only one cook, too. I ordered a reuben sandwich and a tiny cup of vegetable soup came with it. I was really surprised that no fries came with it. I guess they only come with sandwiches after 3:00, which is strange. My husband got a hot beef sandwich and soup came with that also. The soup was really bland and tasted like it came out of a can. My sandwich was ok, but nothing special. My husband said his hot beef sandwich tasted like institutional food and had no flavor at all. I had asked the waitress if they had any pie for my mom who has Alzheimer's and only has a taste for sweet things, but she said they didn't have any. But later, my husband pointed out a glass front refrigerator at the front of the restaurant that had a tin with pie in it. Neither of us could understand why this place had so many great reviews. The food was very disappointing. For as much as we paid, we wished we had gone to Culver's or some place else where we knew the food had some flavor. We were expecting tasty home style food, but what we good was far from it. The only good thing was that the waitress was nice and had a very pleasant attitude even though it was busy and food was coming out at a snail's pace. Stopped into Bubba and Mama's Restaurant this morning. Jackie is a great waitress. I try to stop about once a month. The food is sooo good. I had a wonderful experience there this morning. A young Mom who works at the Clinton Nunnery and I had a great conversation about life in general. It was refreshing. We ate our meals in silence. Then, when I went to pay my bill it had been paid for. I had no idea by whom. I asked. It was by this awesome woman. It was the greatest gesture. I truly want to thank you Christina. We were driving through Iowa and looking for a small family owned business, and we stumbled across this really highly rated restaurant with a ton of positive reviews, and they were right on the money. We had the fried chicken, fresh cut fries, salad bar, French toast, crisp bacon, sausage patties, 2 over easy eggs. Food was cooked perfectly, outstanding service, great food and reasonably priced. The food quality seemed much higher than normal, it turns out that it is all fresh from local sources. We have enough food for another meal, highly recommend. read more

This place would of got 5 stars but the servers where not so great! The food was amazing from the Mexican omelet to the Apple cinnamon pancakes! This place should be packed at all times do the food is that good! Looked like they had a very good salad bar it very much a mom and pop joint with good old home cooked food! My only 2 complains was servers there were 2 not so seasoned at that! Never came around to refill beverages coffee every time we needed to ask! She also forgot a half order of biscuits and gravy. There was more than enough portion wise so I had no complaint. My other complaint would be the toilet was plugged in women's bathroom and we told them nothing done. Also no paper towels in men's bathroom and when told she looked at my uncle and said use a napkin?? If you can get over the service you won't be disappointed with the food!! Stopped for lunch when I was in the mood for a good old-fashioned, rib-sticking American lunch on a cold, wet and windy winter day and I found it. The Italian wedding soup on the salad bar was delicious but I didn't have time to go back for a second bowl because my lunch entree was on the table in no time. The open-faced hot beef sandwich was just what the doctor ordered: big scoop of mashed potatoes, bread and sliced beef smothered in gravy. Just what I needed on a day like today without being too much food. Excellent, friendly and attentive service. What a find! Thanks to previous Yelp reviews, we stopped in when here for a visit. The menu is wide and they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner! Back for the 2nd week... because their shrimp is just so good! It's large shrimp with a light and flaky crust. Barely finished my soup and salad before it came out, piping hot. Makayla and Kayla were there again tonight, hustling dishes out from the kitchen, restocking the salad bar, and clearing tables. Small, family friendly atmosphere, so bring the kiddos! Finally found a restaurant that makes homemade meals, they don't just take food out of the freezer to be thrown into a fryer or oven. It's hand breaded & made from scratch. This is one of the slowest restaurants I've ever eaten at. I could be mistaken about the Covid guidelines but tables were spaced about the foot apart and most of the staff was not masked. Our waitress was masked but not over her nose. Very disappointing because the food was phenomenal. read more

Trying another new place for us. All locally grown and raised products used here. The owners run the shop and are proud of what they have and can offer the locals here in the area. All locally sourced where possible. I arrived for breakfast with the family and was pleasantly surprised. FRESH hash browns, perfectly seasoned, incredible stuffed omelette for me and my wife, packed skillet breakfast for my brother in law and Belgian waffle for mom. Oh, and choice of toast or short stack pancakes. Huge portions at a very reasonable price. Don't be fooled by the small menu on the website, it is only the tip of the iceberg. They have fantastic daily offers and serve breakfast and lunch all day. Wish I had more time to next try their lunch items, but will certainly come back for more. What a nice surprise. This place was recommended by a friend on Facebook so had to try it out. Was a little bit hard to find, but very worth it. The lady that served was very nice and took great care of us. We both had the fried Walleye. Two pieces, potato, cole slaw, salad bar, all for under $7!
