First time coming to this pool & on the first day open for summer ! free swim let's get into it . Besides me being an avid seafood lover, I am also a fish out of water lol ! I am literally a mermaid when it comes to swimming. I've been swimming all my life from public pools, private pools to beaches, rivers and lakes , being involved with lifeguarding as a teenager as well . I love swimming. I love being in the water, and I know the rules when it comes to public pools so this is where my honest opinion comes into play. So first of all, I will say this . As a mom I always do my research before I go anywhere , talk about anything , or judge. I've read a lot of mixed reviews about this place. This is what I have to say. I did my research and they said the following: pool is open from 11 to 6. There is a swim test required to go in the deep end and go off the diving board. You are not to wear regular clothes or cut off clothes in the pool. of course no running and etc. when I got there none of the rules were being followed. I even brought kids with me , not one kid was tested to get in the deep end , all life guards watched. and this is the first day opening so I can't go off of "Oh they might know this child" No ! your job as a lifeguard is to make sure no one is going under your watch. I feel like the young team staff thinks that since their parents are with them. there's no need for a swim test .... with my experience with swimming It's very important !including adults ! because just because a parent is an adult doesn't mean they have the best swim skills and if something were to happen, it is your job as the lifeguard to step in . so that stood out to me ( luckily me and mines know how so we were alright) I even taught a young lady how to dive ( she was a gymnastics girly and her mom was present ) and even thanked me for helping because she doesn't know how to dive so how can she teach !! But also as well as people breaking the rules with clothing, you have to remember this is a public space when you jump in the pool you're jumping in and sharing with everything so it was kind of disheartening to see a lot of rules being broken. Besides my personal observation of the rules and conduct of the employees , overall the pool is nice. It goes from 3 feet to about 13 feet deep on the deep end with the diving board. They also have a kid pool as well. They have tables that you can rent out for parties as well as a little shaded area, but you are allowed to bring your own lawn chairs and find your own spot if space is available around the pool , I brought two of mines . came from 11 to 5. The website says 11 to 6. They need to update it cause on the first day. I was expecting to stay the whole day . It was a 90 degree day . And they made us get out at 4:45 because they closed at 5 . I even brought it to one of the guards attention about the hours needing to be updated ( he said it's only for Friday , it was a Friday lol ?! He didn't know what he was talking about ) They have a snack bar, but it's trash honestly I've been and grew up in so many different pools. You could bring your own food and they will not bother you. Save your dollars and pack picnic style for the pool if you decide to stay here all day. Overall me personally, I have no complaints. I know what I will and will not do coming here, but just to appreciate the pool. We had a good day . little details I noticed, but if I come prepared, it's things I don't have to worry about . this is a nice pool . I suggest staff be more aware as well as parents and bring your own food..... that's my opinion. read more

Wish I could give it 5 stars because the pool area I enjoy. Pools and pool area are nice and clean. Knocking stars for the bathrooms and shower area they can use a good cleaning. Theres spiderwebs every where. And a remodeling those bathrooms still look the same as they did 20yrs ago staff could be a little more welcoming. Lifeguards are young kids with AirPods in their ears. So just make sure you watch your kids Besides that price is decent and the pool is nice so thats what keeps us going back read more

The pool is good to swim in on a hot day but the women's restroom and showers are beyond disgusting. There are shower drains don't drain, you end up in a puddle of water trying to rinse off in the group shower area. Forget even going to the individual showers, they are much worse with mold and a broken shower head that sprays so hard. There was only one bathroom stall with toilet paper and no soap or paper towels. The whole bathroom needs to be redone. I really want to puke when I'm in there. Went to the pool during a public swim. First thing I noticed is that the pool is not properly watched. The guards watching the small pool always looked away and when they were switching had their backs to the water not watching the kids. They let the kids run around all over the deck and say nothing. The ONE guard watching the big pool was not in either of the guard chairs but instead on the bench by the front. Out of the 3 guards here only one actually used the chair and was on the correct place to watch the water. There is not a swim test either to be let into the 15ft area which is unsafe. The pool itself is very nice but the staff do not watch the water properly or in a safe manner. If you are bringing kids to the public hrs I recommend going in with them as the staff seem to be lacking the proper safety training. Growing up across the street from Buchanan, going on field trips, numerous parties and even taking swim lessons there, no other place came to mind when it was time for my son to have lessons. The first summer was great, my son was only 4 or 5 years old so he was still in the kiddie pool. Fast forward to the summer of 2016, my son was now taking lessons in the big pool. We did lessons for the entire session, from June-October. The instructors are high school/college ages kids. Towards the end of the summer I'm sure they are getting restless with work and just ready to be done. Unfortunately, it was off the backs of our kids taking lessons. The first incident was when my son was swimming across the pool, it's a long way for a little guy and he was getting tired. The two instructors were standing back at the starting point chit chatting barely looking towards my son 3 times if that. I got up and got ready to jump in in case he needed help. I had this all on video and stopped by and talked to the supervisor who said she was having a meeting with the instructors and would talk to them and that he should have not been swimming w/out someone close by. Great, one incident, they were going to be talked to, cool. We look forward to a new season of lessons in 2017, boy was that enthusiasm quickly shot down. First of all we arrive for our evening lessons and I realize that the pool has been taken over by the Antioch Delta Skimmers. Swim lessons are contained to 1 lane, yes, one lane. Buchanan is now the home pool for the Skimmers, I'm assuming at a cost of course. Well, we were paying for lessons and the lessons are contained to one lane. Buchanan is double dipping on the backs of the children of our community. Poor business. I figured we'd continue with lessons since this would probably be his last summer there. It didn't take long for another disappointment. I was however surprised that it happened so early in the summer. Lessons are only 25 minutes long so every minute counts. Level 3 was called to the pool and instructors told the kids to kick on the side of the pool....totally normal to start the class.. (This was my son's second session in level 3, they wanted him to stay in level 3 to work on his stroke) what was not normal was for them to be on the side of the wall kicking for 7 frickin minutes while the instructors chatted about their weekend plans. That is 1/3 of the class. After 7 minutes of kicking the kids were told to practice their strokes. My son's stroke obviously needed help and having been kept in level 3 to work on his stroke I was more than irate to see him not being corrected and to see the instructors huddled at the end of the pool chit chatting and laughing. That was the final straw for me. The nostalgia of having my boy take lessons in the same pool I did many years ago coupled with the convenience of being 2 minutes from home is not enough for me to ever take my son back or to ever recommend Buchanan Swim Center to anyone. We must teach these young people work ethic, they are the ones choosing our nursing homes! read more
