We absolutely love Solar Swim! I have to give a huge shout out to Ms. Chamyah because she has been such an outstanding and amazing teacher to my son who is high functioning ASD. She is so patient and engaging with my son. I used to get nervous when he was with other instructors because my kiddo is one who likes to do whatever he wants with so much energy, but she ensure structure and support while also giving him freedom to explore in the water (safely) and be his full safe. This gym, overall, is a very safe and inclusive space for individuals that may have certain or special needs. I also want to show love to Mr. Shameek (i think is his name). He manages the gym so well and is also super approachable and supportive too. We love it here! read more

If I could give this place a negative star rating I would. I went in for an interview, and I was not greeted by the owner who was nonstop on the phone. I went to go change my clothes for the swim portion of the interview and there was a giant clump of hair on the already gross bathroom/changing area. The building itself was dingy and depressing but the bathroom really just set it off. I finished getting dressed and still the owner was on the phone and I sat there waiting for about 10 minutes until she finally handed me off to who she called a manager. She said I would be in the water for an hour, first half would be shadowing and second half I would taking over. Okay standard. I go in the water with the manager with a kid and suddenly another kid was brought to us by a guy not in uniform who we were told doesn't usually come but he was friends with the student. So now, the manager is teaching the class that I can't watch because I have to protect this other random kid who was allowed in the water for some reason. 30 minutes in and I'm expecting for us to swap kids. Nope, all hell breaks loose when they realize the kid swimming is over booked. The manager I'm with has another different student to teach, another employee walks out and they try to pawn the overbooked kid to her, she has another class and can't so they find a third person to take the overbooked student and everyone disperses. I'm still holding this random kid who is now screaming. Suddenly this kids grandma shows up, she was randomly swimming in the pool too, and she tells me she wants me to keep the kid in the water. Unfortunately ma'am I don't work here, your grandson was just left in my care? I am a stranger. Speaking of strangers, there were so many random adults walking around this place and not enough kids for them to be there for a reason. Maybe for the gym portion of the building but then they should be in the gym? I give the boy to his grandma (not sure if it was his grandma or a random old lady) and hop out the water. I stand at the desk waiting for the owner and still she is on the phone, I say whatever and grab my stuff and change. I come out. Still on the phone. Another employee comes up to me and introduces herself, she asks me if I will be joining the team I tell her no, and explain that legally I didn't feel like I should have been left with someone's kid who doesn't swim here and to me that seemed extremely dangerous. She agreed. We went back and forth a bit and she ended up telling me that she was hired for a higher position but once she was onboarded they switched it on her and she was not given the position. I told her that that seemed to check out. Mind you, the owner was no more than a foot away from us still on the phone and did not regard me at all. Even tho I'm out of the water 30 minutes early, me personally, I would assume there was something wrong and would give the potential employee my attention but no. I stood there for a while longer to the point where I asked the lady who had approached me to let the owner know that I would not be returning. There is no real supervision, your kids will never learn how to swim because there is no real curriculum and if there is, the manager who was supposed to be training me did not use it and the place is filthy with randoms all around who are allowed into the building/pool etc without any regulation so by default VERY dangerous for kids. If I wasn't there god knows what would have happened to the secondary kid when everyone just left me with him. I don't think anyone knew his grandma was there and no one cared that they were leaving me with him. read more

Nearly $70 a month for just one person is a crime. For someone without a family to sign up, who just wants to be able to go in the morning and use the machines, that's too much. My child has been with solar swim and gym for 3 years now. We LOVE it!!! Coach Nikki is the absolute best and the sole reason we continue to go. We started with the expectation of my son learning how to be water safe, and able to swim but her coaching goes far beyond the basic training. I never considered a future for my child in swimming but with such formal training, I could see him growing into a legit swimmer. I would say that the facility is older and doesn't have the brilliant shine as a fancy shmancy new club, but i see this place as history for the city of Antioch, especially when I see the photos hanging around of the club throughout the years. It could certainly use some upgrades but I see a work in progress. Thank you Coach Nikki, for everything you do. We look forward to coming back again in the Fall. read more

Solar swim review Swim Instructor Jordan was amazing. Great engagement, support and teaching. The only reason we returned back. My kid enjoyed him and he pays attention to your child and invests in him, he doesn't try to direct from outside the pool like I saw others. He gets in and swims and trains with your child. Facility:manager is not welcoming nor supportive, told her it was a first time visit and she did nothing to offer basic logistics of the site or review of process. She gets so busy in socializing she is blind to customers waiting to get help. Her fake nails seems to get in the way of her operating technology effectively. Disorganized process: when I originally called the lady said I was paying for 6 sessions. When i went to pay next lady said it was just 4. My invoice said one person and reality was it was a different person. Kids run around the pool without supervision . Cleanliness is not high. I also saw repeatedly kids who were supposed to get lessons have no trainer show up, left on thr bench with no trainer that they paid for. It's sad to see. I saw the manager give feedback to a trainer publicly and he ended up quitting on the spot. No discretion given to personnel issues. Pool: decent, has night lights , heated but could be warmer as my son was cold before session ended. The pool is also small compared to how much they book in there. My son has one thin lane and groups on other lane were overlapping his lane with balls, rings and kids swimming over causing disruption. Private practice requires high awareness to avoid being hit. After just 2 days here I know I won't return with all the issues here. Instructor was Great but the facilities and mgmt was poor. Not worth investment. Will go elsewhere for future swim needs. High praise to Jordan he is the gem of the facility. read more

Where do I start with this place! This swim club is so family and team oriented. They have members from all walks of life which makes this place such an amazing environment to be a part of and raise my kids in. They welcome everybody at the door with a huge smile and never turn anybody away. They want everybody to be able to swim and have fun doing it! Last summer my two boys (ages 4& 5) had no idea how to swim. They needed floaters and a life vest. They've always wanted to be able to swim by themselves but they were scared. We found this swim club and within a month they can both swim independently with coach supervision. Something that stood out to my family during this experience was how many young coaches there are and how they are teaching the kids to swim. They are constantly being monitored by the head coaches to ensure my kids are being safe and being taught the correct technique, but the young coaches are given an opportunity to work with kids and build connections with them from the start. From the beginning my kids have bonded with the young coaches and have buddies now on the swim team. We can't wait for the season to start and be a part of this swim club! Go sea monsters! read more

Solar Swim & Gym has so much to offer our community! My family and I love spending time at Solar. The learn to swim program is amazing. The instructors help kids and adults fine tune their swimming in a positive way. My daughter started in the learn to swim program and quickly set her sights on the swim team. New owners for the past 2+ years. My family and I have rented for partys several times. The owners go above and beyond to accommodate all of our guests. The owners saved the day when the venue we had reserved for a baby shower cancelled on us the night before because of a double booking. I can't praise the owners and staff enough for not only offering the facilities but making sure we has tables, chairs and even helped us with set up.They turned an overwhelming situation into a great and memorable event!! I was getting my three kids ready for their swim lessons at Solar when my little girl tells me she just started her period. Since I'm already headed out the door and don't want to be late, I figure I will inform them as soon as we arrive which is about 30 mins later. Surprisingly, they let me know she would lose her class. Since these types of events don't always happen well in advance of anything you schedule in life, this feels like gender discrimination. I'm giving this place a 2 star I would have liked to give it more stars because the pool and the area is very nice. I've been trying to locate a swimming aerobics class near my home in Pittsburg and not sign up for a gym I thought this place would be perfect. My mother and I went to go look at the pool and see if this would work out. We get there and were first confused which door to enter. A little boy came out of one of the door so we decided to enter in that way. The young boy coming out of the door was not escorted and there was no adult waiting for him in the parking lot and when we entered the place there were two young women sitting and talking that worked there. First I thought that was very strange to let him walk out of there by himself. We were greeted but the one who greeted us I felt as though I was bothering her and when I asked about the water aerobics class she ask me what did I want to know about it. I thought ok this was rude. She finally gave me information about the classes I then ask could we get a tour she said yes and pointed to the door. Meaning I need to take myself on the tour. So my mother and I just looked out the door to the pool. At that point we decided how rude this place is this would not be a good fit. I will be looking for another place even if I have to go further to be treated with Common courtesy. read more

As a parent, we inform when our children are under the weather, but what happens if i'ts the parent who falls ill? Well, at Solar they could care less and they will penalize your child (in my case children). After being loyal customers for more than one session, I was really disappointed that they could not excuse this absent due to extenuating circumstances on my part. Another huge issue for me was that parents have to wait under the sun. There is no shade except for a small wooden cabana that is pretty much always taken. Remember guys, this is Antioch! It gets really hot. One scorching day, I sat under the shade in an unoccupied table area in front of the office. An older woman with purple/blue hair told me that I could not sit there. Where else could I possibly sit? on the bleachers with no shade under 100+ weather? Located in Antioch, don't understand how Solar does not make it a priority to invest in shade for their waiting customers. Last, Solar holds events to increase revenue, but (know) they never sell out. If you wait to purchase tickets 1-2 days before, you will get the tickets for half off or BOGO free. Overall, cannot recommended a business that does not its customer's health seriously and in turn penalizes its students. read more

They are racist here. They will come up to people of color and ask them to prove their membership. They have a horrible computer system that will double charge you and they blame you. I was harassed every time I came in the gym by the swim coach lady who does her makeup at the desk. The energy is not good. The other members are very nice and welcoming, the staff is NOT. I had membership there for 3 years and they treated me ridiculously. I have automatic pay set up and THEIR system would malfunction and before even checking for that or realizing I would be harassed about payment until I tell her it's set up automatically and to check again. A local treasure, this gym is small but mighty! I joined a few weeks ago. I have moderate to severe arthritis and was scheduled for a hip replacement. I've lost 15 pounds, have more flexibility, and less pain. I'm only doing 1-2 Aquacize per week and a day or two of laps. If you are in pain and scared of surgery, the pool is a great way to improve your fitness in the safety of the water. read more

We love this gym! It was heaven sent last year when everything shut down due to covid. My kids usually play soccer and softball baseball. With everything closed we didn't want them to be couch potatoes. So we looked into swim lessons, they were outdoor small groups so we felt safe. Our kids learned fast with great teachers with lots of experience. They have had Najee, Audrey, Paulette, Julian and now Nikki. They are both still taking lessons to master different swim stokes. Both swim and dive and are very comfortable and confident in the pool. After a year of lessons a birthday party at their location, we joined today so we could take full advantage of the whole facility! read more

This is the gym that taught me how to swim. I was 17 then, and though I knew how to doggy-paddle...man, by the time I was done Clark and Ingrid (my goodness, Ingrid is somethin' else!) had me doing a few competitive moves, and some people thought I had been swimming for years. Although the facility looks old, it's well equipped.. I have been a member of Solar Swim and Gym for probably 30 years with a 10 year gap while I worked full time out of town. I enjoyed swimming my laps there in the historic Clark and Ingrid days, but I am much happier now in the new Wint and Thet days. They have done so much to improve everything from completely resurfacing the pool last year to making the gym totally ADA compliant this year. They have signed up with both Silver and Fit (Kaiser) and Silver Sneakers making it very affordable for seniors such as myself. I have a strong preference for outdoor pools like Solar's. I also prefer a small intimate gym to the big impersonal ones. Any time they are open, lanes are available for lap swimmers. Covid has temporarily closed the indoor parts of the gym and required us to sign up for swim lanes, but it is worth it. Give it a try! read more

If you have kids AVOID !!!!!! My 5 year old sons was told he had to use the men's bathroom alone and could not use the women's restroom where i could accompany him for safely reasons . We have done swim lessons here for about 4 months and today I'm told my son who's 5 has to shower alone in the men's bathroom and can't shower in the women's because a women complained. The bathroom are sectioned off and have private changing areas !!!! But since she's a member her request is is valid !!!' How does that make sense ? She pays $45 a month vs. my $190 a month ???? There aren't unisex bathrooms so where is a mom suppose to shower there 5 year old kid after swim class ? Not alone in a All men's bathroom that's for sure read more

I admonish caution with swim lessons at Solar Swim. I signed up for and paid in advance for four swim lessons for my granddaughter in 2016. Unfortunately, Ingrid hit her on top of her head and demanded she go to bottom of deep end of pool to retrieve the ring before she had the skill to do so. I stepped in and ended the lesson later speaking with the front desk employee asking for a refund. He brought in Clark who said he would teach my granddaughter but we would have to space out the lessons to Only on Fridays because he is booked all week. Anyway, we completed another lesson with Clark but, since my granddaughter lives in Sacramento and I work, I wasn't able to schedule the remaining two lessons. I contacted SSG and Ingrid told me that her records show she completed all four lessons, which is not true. BTW, they lost the first set of paper work and had to complete it again. They use a card and filing system so it's anyone guess where that paper was filed. It was a good thing I had my credit card receipt. So there are no refunds or rescheduling of missed classes and my bad is I waited too long to contact them. Solar swim is not customer friendly and it is not okay to hit children you're teaching Ingrid! read more

Ingrid is the best teacher. She is Very straight forward and very passionate on teaching. Some students call her "Sergeant Master" . My twins learned swimming the first day of class. Clark and Ingrid run a spotless, professional business. I have been to many gyms, and this one, by far, is the cleanest. I appreciate that members who use the pool must shower before entering the water which is crystal clear and a fabulous Mediterranean blue. There is no film of sunscreen nor hairballs floating on this pool! The women's locker room is tidy, toasty in the winter, and refreshingly cool in the summer, and again, exceptionally clean. I love the competitions with the posters showing progress located in the lobby. If one swims 50 miles in a year, the member earns an sharp-looking, fun t-shirt with the Solar Swim & Gym logo on it which Ingrid designs. It's motivating! The annual Awards Luncheon is a warm, friendly gathering with a fabulous healthy lunch menu creating and cooked by Ingrid. It's amazing! My daughter took lessons at Solar Swim & Gym, and I agree with Cherie S.'s observation - the lessons are structured and professional. I understand that not all personalities are a good match, so one can request an instructor one feels may better suit one's child's needs. A child will learn to feel confident in the water and develop the healthy, life-long love of swimming. The young employees are energetic, knowledgeable, beyond helpful, cheerful, and super polite. Raul was especially encouraging and started me on the path to eliminate my "muffin top" with specific exercises. Destiny is always the epitome of a professional, positive employee. I had my sons 7th birthday party here last month and everyone had such a great time! It was so relaxed and fun! The new owners are awesome they really worked with me and did not make this difficult at all. They pretty much let us be and accommodated us as needed. They let us stay late and we all swam until it got dark. I highly recommend this place reasonably priced and no strict restrictions at all! I been waiting to have a pool party for my son and this was his best party yet! I might even have it here next year because we all had such a good time! Me daughter had been taking swimming lessons for 2 months at Solar Swim and Gym and she had learned a lot, she went to 2 different places and never learn a thing and now after 2 months she is swimming and doing freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, diving and much more. The pool is clean and they have a system that clean the pool so the water doesn't irritate your eyes, hair or skin,you don't even smell any chorine in the water , restrooms are super clean. The boys that work at the front desk are nice and helpful. Clark (owner/instructor and Ingrid's husband) is super nice and patient. My daughter's instructor is Ingrid a very dedicated and passionate teacher and does a great job but she doesn't has patience and yells to kids, pulls their hair and tells them rude words, she bulling them. I will never tolerate that to my child and Ingrid knows it ,I always sit outside to see/hear what she is saying. My child is a good kid , she follows rules and does as Ingrid says so Ingrid is nice to her but I hear how Ingrid treats other kids when they don't follow rules. She is a nice person but she gets out of control when kids don't listen, I understand if kids don't follow rules you have to be firm and don't baby sit them but there is a huge difference between be firm and bulling. Other than that I would say it the best place if you want you little one to learn how to swim in 1 month, but be outside and let Ingrid know you will no tolerated her bad attitude and also spec to wait 30min or even an hour so instructor can be ready for your kid class; after 2 months I still don't get use to be waiting so long but as I said before she is very passionate and instead of a 30min class It can last up to an hour, she finished the class until kids have learned what she is teaching them, so that's why I have to wait so long, I think it is worth but when I have things to do and other classes to take it's irritate me. read more

I chose to go here cause it was not crowded in the gym and for the pool but, when need to use the pool ,you can't .It seems those that pay for swim lessons take priority and while swimming laps I have to stop for the kids coming into the lane or I have to wait for the lessons to end.
