Ordered $70 worth of food. Responded "Here" when asked if we were "here" or "to go". Person who took our order was rude. Made me feel like I was in bootcamp while ordering. They rushed us and were not friendly. I got a specialty coffee to enjoy in the restaurant. It was served in a paper cup. I asked them if I could get a ceramic cup for the drink. The bar has tons of them sitting out in and around the espresso machine. The guy that took my order came over and told me that we could not have a ceramic cup for our coffee. He said that they don't do that. I pointed to the bar and said, other people are enjoying their coffee in a coffee cup. He stormed off and said "whatever" to me and left me alone with no further help. For the next 20 minutes, I overheard him and the bar staff ridiculing me for asking for a cup for my coffee. They made such a big deal about a relatively small ask. At the end of the meal, I cleared my table and threw all of the trash in the designated area. There were not any busboy bins, so I took my coffee mug, plates, and silverware up to the bar. I asked the bartender "can I give these to you". The place was busy and I figured I would show them respect, despite the way they were behaving. The bartender promptly scolded me by saying "don't put those up here". He raised his voice. I asked him where I should put the dirty plates and utensils and he said "go put them back at your table". Terrible service!!! Disrespectful to customers. read more

My notes: Amazing Cuban, and I'm from Tampa! OK, now I should say that despite growing up in a place where Cuban sandwiches were a regular entree in public school lunch...I'm not expert. Still, this is probably the best Cuban I've ever had. And in Leadville, CO...who knew? Cherries on top are the greenhouse-style outdoor eating area that feels warm, even when it's cold outside. Listen. You're in Leadville. It's an old mining town. You expect diners, you expect burger joints, you expect standard small town food. And you could find that in Leadville, I'm sure. But, a legit Cuban Sandwich place? With real espresso? With real Flan? With legit Mojitos? That serves fast? Yeah - seems like it's impossible, but folks, no lies will be told here! First off all, the Cuban Sandwiches. I'm no small person, and having just hiked two trails, drove 50 miles and walked the town, I was hungry. This sandwich was huge, filling and good. Honestly, I don't know how they squeeze the quality, flavor, and size into the price. It's a deal, it's good and it's huge. If I was a smarter person, I'd have bought one for the next day. Espresso. I'm a bit of a picky one when it comes to espresso. It needs to have the right bitterness, the right la crema, the right bite. I've had them all over the world, and Buchi get's it right. Flan. I had a co worker with a Dominican mother, and they'd bring in homemade flan. The kind of flan that makes you look the other way when they come in 7 hours late for an 8 hour day, as long as they're bringing in that smooth, creamy Flan. Buchi's Flan is so rich it could probably afford a summer house in Aspen. Combine the Flan and that huge sandwich, I'd be a danger to drive from awesome food induced coma, however, the espresso was the perfect cap. Leadville is a town that needs a several days to explore, enjoy and experience. Buchi is the place for breakfast (if we only were there earlier) and lunch. Counter girl was rude and when my husband ordered a Cuban sandwich he asked for it to not be pressed (very easy task) but she went to ask and came back with a nope can't do it that way and my husband said well you just lost my business and she polled her eyes. The bread is not Cuban bread and the coffee is not Cuban coffee. Had a cortadito with sugar and it was half filled and tasted very very sweet. You do order from a ventanita which is nostalgic but the prices are far off from a Cuban cafe. I really enjoyed Buchi. We stopped by for lunch after a hike. We found a socially distanced outdoor table that was shaded under a patio cover. We had delicious cubano sandwhiches, one was a classic cubano and the other had pepperoni, hot peppers, and key lime mayo added. Both were really good. We also ordered iced cortadito cuban coffees. The normal way they are served, which is how my wife got it, is VERY sweet with raw sugar. If you're into that you'll love it. I got mine without sugar and it was great. read more

The guy who took our order at the window was as friendly as a cactus. We ordered breakfast sandwiches that came with cheese, eggs, and bacon on panini style. We really had to search for the bacon. We finally found two micro skinny slices. The sandwiches really lacked flavor. Even the orange juice was tasteless. I can find a better way to blow $30. Probably the best Cuban sandwich I've ever had. Or my mother has ever had. Definitely worth a stop. We were traveling from Gunnison to Beaver Creek and wanted to stop in Leadville for a quick lunch on the way. I turned to Yelp and found this spot and it did not disappoint. We both had the cuban mix and honestly had it not been so insanely delicious, we could have shared. It was a generous portion. The meats were well cooked and everything came together well. The staff was super friendly and welcoming - even coming by to refill our iced tea on the patio outside (even though its not a table service place). Tons of outdoor picnic tables which is a huge win. We'll definitely be back if we're passing through again. read more

They also have pretty much entirely outdoor seating so was surprised when our dog could not join us at a picnic table. Still a great lunch spot in Leadville. read more

My husband and I went to Leadville for an afternoon and after reading the reviews of Buchi, I knew we had to make a stop. We ordered two sandwiches, a latte, iced tea and flan. The traditional cubano was incredible. I particularly liked the pickles. We also ordered the simple pork and grilled onion sandwich. Equally as good, if not better because of the fact that it really showcased the pork. We ate there nearly a week ago and my husband has randomly asked me three or four separate times where I think they get their bread (if anyone has any leads on this, let me know. the guy won't shut up about it- ha!). Everything about these sandwiches is awesome. The flan was delicious with the addition of coffee in the caramel. Yum! I am not a coffee drinker, but much like all of the other reviews, the hubs said the latte was great. If we'd known about this place sooner, we would have made the trek to Leadville many more times in recent months. Now that the secret is out, we'll be back sooner rather than later. read more

Café's Denver restaurant has been collecting excellent reviews, and we are thrilled that there is a Leadville café as well! Leadville has long needed some diversity in the restaurant landscape and Buchi is a step in the right direction. We had lunch at Buchi yesterday--a refreshing Jai Alai beer from Cigar City Brewing in Tampa and a big, icy, minty Mojito plus luscious pressed Cuban sandwiches--a Machina Verde vegetarian sandwich for me and a Cuban Mix for my husband. We each took half home. The vegetarian sandwich included swiss cheese, generous avocado, tomato, lettuce, cucumber, and a cilantro vinaigrette. The Cuban Mix had roast pork, ham, cheese, pickles, onions and mustard. We enjoyed lunch so much that we went back this morning for breakfast--strong, rich Cuban coffee (several types available, including espresso and cafe con leche), a spicy Bloody Mary, and egg and cheese sandwiches. Again, the avocado on my sandwich was generous and fresh. And again, we took half of our sandwiches home for tomorrow! The outdoor feeling (with photos of Cuba) and the outside patio dining give the restaurant a Caribbean feel that I hope continues during our 8 months of winter in Leadville. Standard sandwich but panini'd it's like 3x. Got the La Bodega - Wish there were vegetables in it. Just tomato and and avocado for healthy bits. Bread is nothing special and thought the Mayo would have more flavor to it. They have individual "green houses" around tables of 4 which is a fun treat!
