Friday Night on the way back to our rental we stopped for dinner, we sat on the back deck as we had a large group...view was great and dinner started off well...live entertainment going inside ...as we placed our order we were told the kitchen was a little backed up, no big deal until we were waiting an hour and a half for an app and two hours for our dinner It wasn't til we inquired about our food there was any urgency in getting us served and told sorry the kitchen just can't keep up on nights like this...waitress was great and wasn't her fault, food when it came was ok but should not have taken two hours! Honestly , it was a 4-5 star experience until we got our bill. There was a notice at the hostess stand stating that prices may fluctuate because of rising food costs, but we thought those prices would be reflected on the menu or maybe a difference of $1 per item or so . I ordered a cup of seafood chowder (on the menu for $5.95 ) and a Buffalo chicken Mac and cheese, ($17 ) my friends ordered fish tacos (not sure of the price ) and a half order ribs with Mac and cheese ($18 on menu ). They were really busy , so the wait time didn't bother us and our server seemed to be working really hard . All the food came out with fairly high remarks . My soup did have a decent amount of seafood and the Mac and cheese was creamy . The decor and the ambiance of this lodge seemed cozy, although I would have liked to be seated in the main dining room . But with full bellies , we were content . Now , my soup was $3 higher than the menu price ($9 for a CUP of soup , ouch!) my friends ribs were $4 more than the menu price (about 25% of an increase ) and there were $1 increase on all other items ordered. We were on vacation so $10 extra on our meal isn't the end of the world , however menu prices should be updated as it may be a deciding factor in the ordering process . I don't think I would have splurged for the soup . We didn't complain , since they were so busy . But only tipped about 15% instead of our usual 25% . I would recommend this restaurant after a trip to Castle in the Clouds, but only if they update their prices on their menu first . read more

More of a tavern than a restaurant. The appetizers we ordered were crazy overpriced for stuff that was basically a poor imitation of chain food (Applebees or the like). The wings were mediocre, which at $20 a dozen really hurts. Sauce was bland, a $2.50 bottle of Sweet Baby Rays has more kick. My beer came out in a can, despite nothing on the menu to differentiate between draft vs can and foolishly I never asked. Check was over $60 and I really felt like I had have better meals for half the cost. Would be 2 stars but the service was prompt and very friendly. The Tavern in the title gives way to the menu, pretty much all fried food with some salads. The fish tacos were recommended (I was in a party of 5). I think it was a fried fish stick with some coleslaw and lots of cheese on top. It was ok. I wouldn't order it again. If you like Nachos, one of us ordered this for an entree and it came on a large sheet pan (definitely enough for two). They looked good, but I never would have ordered them as an entree. Had a nice meal here. The restaurant is set up with space between the tables and the waitstaff is wearing masks. We were five. Three had salads with steak, and two had buffalo chicken wraps. All was prepared well and of good quality. Waiter was courteous and efficient. They have outdoor seating but it's by reservation. Looked up this place online and thought we'd give it a try. Great comfort food selection. Servers were all super nice and attentive, very friendly. Ribs were tasty and not over sauced. Mac and cheese was tasty and I loved the way the buffalo chicken was prepared for the top. The garlic bread was tasty and a nice touch. Serving Coke is always a plus. Spacious place that appears to be popular. My family stopped in for an early dinner on a Sunday. We arrived at 3:30 and got our food at 4:45. There were several empty tables so I'm guessing they are understaffed like everyone else. The good: fantastic onion rings, pizza, garden salad. The bad: the burgers tasted like microwaved previously frozen burgers (my husband couldn't finish his and my daughter refused to eat hers), the nachos were lackluster. The worst: I ordered a garden salad with grilled chicken. Everyone else was served their food and I waited an additional 10 minutes for my salad. It was brought out without chicken and I was told the chicken would arrive later. Another 10 min later, the chicken arrived (pic shown). It looked like strips that had been microwaved. Well, hard to say! We live in Moultonborough, and have gone to Buckey's off and on over the years. Enjoyed a beer at the bar chatting with people, and enjoying the music on the occasional Friday nights! The food has never been great, but the burgers are always my go to there. I've noticed over the last year that when you go and it's busy, the owners sit at the bar, same seat, always and not "give up the seat AT ALL. Never talks to patrons, just sits there, so bizarre. We went there last Friday to see who was playing, and to enjoy a night out. We both work full time and we don't get to go out and enjoy ourselves much. We got there around 5:30-6ish, and although the middle room where folks like to sit had only a few tables with people sitting, we were told the rest of the tables were reserved. It was going to be a bit before the band came in, but I happen to know the crowd they were "holding the room" for. This crowd are people that drive up from their MA homes for the weekend, take up that entire room now, and the hostess shoves everyone else on to the sides. All the while, staring at a half empty room. I fear that Buckey's has joined a number of the businesses around in accommodating the tourists over the locals. read more

Stopped in to buckeys on Tuesday they say there usually closed but were open . They didn't have any food except apps and pizza. They were trying a pizza buffet so we tried it. This place is great, first things first, they have Dom's steak tips way up here in the lakes region. You read that right, they make the trip a few times a week to bring the best tips in America to the 603. The staff is always good, and the vibe is what you would expect for a NH bar with locals hanging around. This past Saturday we went here to get away from all the pond hockey players that have infiltrated Meredith and it was the right choice. No wait, and a live blues band that was fantastic, I had no idea they had live music there, so this was a plus. Oh they had these fried pickles on the menu with a Siracha sauce that was out of this world. (Fat kid at heart) always !!! My wife and I were looking for a place to dine including entertainment. Options are limited in the upper Lakes region in the winter. Saw that Buckey's had a band on Friday evenings. Arrived 45 minutes before show, was surprised to see the large lot packed (chilly February night with few tourists visiting). Nonetheless, we grabbed a spot and were seated immediately. Server was very good, despite clearly being overburdened with tables. Food was pretty good, but coffee was not and the cheesecake was still a bit frozen. Cost was very reasonable. The band was decent as well. Only complaint was the noise level from a large family (15+) seated between us and the band. We're older, didn't enjoy yscreaming kids and adults yelling over them. We also questioned their child-rearing choices (standing directly in front of the band with a baby in arms). We look forward to returning soon for another date night (arriving earlier & hopefully sans yelling kids/parents). read more

Nice menu with a couple vegetarian options - including a FANTASTIC veggie burger I decided to try out. Seriously, wow. Sometimes veggie burgers can be on the unnecessarily spicy side or too black bean-y - Buckey's was perfect. My dad had the chicken caesar wrap and said it was delicious. We found this on Yelp as we were looking for a place to eat on our downtime during the Ragnar Relay race (Reach the Beach). The food looked good, so we stopped in. I was surprised and amused by the decor, including the painting of a well-endowed doe being hit on by a deer while playing pool, a large stuffed bear head, and a stuffed bobcat wearing a handkerchief on his head. Had I judged this place solely on its rather odd decor (which would be silly), I would have expected a lower quality of food. However, everything was delicious! The ribs were very tasty, the onion rings were huge, the fries were good, and the veggie burger was flavorful (yes, I did try a bite of almost everyone's food :) ) The only complaint I had was that the burgers were overcooked. I ordered medium-rare and it came out medium-well, and another in our group ordered medium and it was definitely well-done. That sort of ruins the taste of the burger, so I was disappointed in that. Otherwise, great! Afterwards we were looking for a place to nap (we had been up almost 24 hours and had been running a relay race all morning, and had a few hours to go until our next shift running) and we saw the field out back near the mini golf course. Generally I'm not willing to support places that don't defend their Staffa gains to sexual abuse. I believe her. I have eaten here about 15 times since we bought a summer home in Moultonborough 5 years ago. For the most part, it has been okay, but my experience last night was horrible and one of the waitress's derogatory comments to me prompted me to write a more critical review. The restaurant was not packed, and they seemed to have more than enough waitstaff. However, after asking our server a question about the availability of one of their appetizers, it took over 20 minutes to get an answer, and then 45 minutes from the time of ordering for our simple order to arrive (two burgers and one order of sliders). During that time, our waitress was nowhere to be found, though we later learned she was also assigned a large table in a far away part of the restaurant - very poor planning on the part of whoever manages table assignments. When we were 30 minutes into our wait for food, I asked another waitress walking by if she could get our waitress, as we had not seen her and our food was taking a long time. The other waitress barked at me that it wasn't the waitress's fault that the food was late, and that waitresses don't cook the food, they just deliver it. Gee, thanks for the explanation of how restaurants work! I had asked very nicely, and was surprised at such a negative and condescending comment, absent even the slightest apology for the wait. From that point on, we were "served" by both the original waitress and the snotty one. I ordered a burger done medium, with mayo on the side, my son ordered a burger medium rare, with no onions, and my wife ordered sliders. My burger came without the mayo, and I waited 10 minutes for them to bring it! Otherwise, it was fine, though the fries were cold from the wait. My son's burger came with onions, and was well done. My wife's sliders were fine. These are all very normal requests, and they screwed up half of them. Every time the snotty waitress came, she glared at me as if I had just insulted her mother. To her defense, the original waitress offered us a free dessert due to the long wait, but by then I just wanted to leave. She was never unpleasant, but simply wasn't very good. The other waitress needs a personality transplant, and the overall management just isn't that good if they can have that many servers working at a non-busy time and still be so slow. A friend and I were driving in the area and came across Buckey's. Decided to stop for lunch. We both had Bucky's root beer which was really good. We took the waitress's suggestion to try one of the favorites-Bucky's Bomb. It's very much like a cheese steak. Sweet potato fries were also very good. Prices were reasonable and service was very good. It is a good spot to stop on that highway and get a nice casual meal. They have a few rooms including a room called the "man cave" as well as some outdoor seating. There were some fun Halloween decorations throughout. It seems like a fun place to hang out. read more

Buckey's is A-OK. We noticed it on the side of the road when we were going to Castle in the Clouds nearby and decided to give it a shot. In a nutshell: good food made from fresh ingredients, friendly but very slow service. They had a sign in the window saying they were understaffed and were cutting back their hours because they didnt have enough staff. We went for Taco Tuesday. The tacos weren't bad. This gave us an opportuniy for me to get my Mexican food fix while my family had other stuff. My wife raved about how good the steak tips were, and my teenage son devoured the ribs. After waiting to be seated with no one in sight the bartender came over and explained that there was only one server and the wait to be seated would be about 15 minutes. We decided to wait and we are glad we did. It was past lunchtime so not too busy and the bartender was our waiter. Once we were seated you would not know they were short staffed. Bartender (sorry I didn't catch his name) was very attentive. Potato skins, wings, fish & chips and Alpine chicken wrap were all delicious.
