A big disappointment! But no single person employee can be blamed. After consulting Yelp late Sunday afternoon, this restaurant came recommended over the others in the area. So we stopped in and waited. And waited... There were a couple of Hostesses ( I think) at the receiving station, and my Girlfriend waited without acknowledgment while I visited the Privy... when I returned, the girls were gone and my girlfriend was waiting. It was her time to use the privy and I waited. And waited. An older gentleman walked past me several times delivering food to tables around me with zero acknowledgment. Although the place was hopping, there were several Empty Tables...After about 15 minutes of no acknowledgment. No eye contact. No apologies for the delay, no nothing, we left. As a fellow New Englander, I get the New England Gruff charm that many of us exhibit in day-to-day life. But the courtesy of a simple greeting at a restaurant is compulsory. Yeah sure, I get it. School just went back into session and they probably were short-handed. But that's part of the job of being a restaurant manager. Took forever to get water refill Waited over 1/2 hour for food to be delivered. Waitress never checked on us. Baked Haddock. Cold under seasoned spinach under cooked rice. Surf and turf. Overcook scallops. Steak tips under cooked Asparagus not edible didn't clean up the woody part of steam. Steak quesadillas was good Fried lobster was good french fries cold. Went there on 1/13/25 to try again after many years. We met a patron that said how much she and her husband loved it. My wife and I were greeted immediately upon entering and we grabbed a booth. The Waiter/bartender (Chris). came and took our drink order and answered our questions about the apps. We got Irish nachos with bbq chicken, very good and nice count. Many people were getting takeout with about 4 tables eating, small bar was full. My bone dry sapphire martini was perfect. Yes an easy drink to make, but many let it sit and dilute it to bring it to volume. We are going again on Thursday for 1/2 price wings. Don't let a couple of 'bad' biased reviews stop you from going there and enjoying the food and drinks. I am not a local but have a vacation home in the area for 29 years. read more

We have been here occasionally. They used to have a fish and chips lunch special that we enjoyed mid week. I would call it in and pick it up on my way home from work. It was good, not fantastic but good. We visited a couple of times for dinner and were not at all impressed. Rice loaded with basil made me gag. Today put the final nail in that coffin. We ordered baked scallops with asparagus and rice. What the heck was that hideous orange crumb crap so over spiced all over fake scallops? That's right, I said fake scallops. That was punched out skate not scallops. Scallops have been my favorite seafood since I was a child. These were not that. The rice was blech. The asparagus was stringy. $80.00 wasted. Enjoyed a nice dinner here while staying at a local AirBnB. Nice atmosphere, welcoming staff. I had a very good "hot chicken" sandwich, nice accompaniments and good roll. Great steak fries. My wife had a very good black bean burger, not mushy like they can be sometimes. Also good bun and steak fries. Nice selection if draft beers, recommend the "Stoneface" IPA. I'm going to give a bias opinion but this place was truly a gem! we had our 1 year old who had a seizure here when we visit and the staff were beyond helpful. This happened at the end of our experience here, and up till this point we were beyond happy with our food, service and drinks. We were a party of 7, 5 adults and 2 children and there wasn't a complaint in the house and we're not an easy bunch to please. Highly recommend and just truly wanted to extend my gratitude for not only their quick action in helping me with an extremely difficult situation but also being hands on and seeing that I was not capable on my own. Made the mistake of taking my wife to Ackerly's for our anniversary dinner first thing that went wrong was when we ordered our ice tea and it tasted like it had sat in the fridge for three weeks then we had to wait another 50 mins for our dinners ( hers seafood risotto $24 mine seafood trio $27) Again 50 mins no wait staff in sight ( he was busy in the bar chatting with a table of friends apparently) when the food finally came both dishes were cold all the seafood was nasty way over cooked and rubbery the risotto was gummy and she only got one bite in that she actually spit out it was so bad of course we didn't pay for this horrible meal probably one of the worse dining experiences we've had PLEASE AVOID THIS RESTAURANT!!!! Would give zero stars if possible !!!! The only thing this place had going for it was it was less then a half mile from McDonald's read more

Just went back to Ackerly's for lunch and what a disappointment. Showed up around 2pm. Place was not busy as the bar was completely empty with one or two tables seated inside and one or two tables seated outside. So plenty of space. I sat at the bar and patiently waited. A male employee after about 5 minutes came by and told us he'd be back in a minute, than disappeared. A few minutes later a female employee came from outside and said the same to us. Than she disappeared. Not one of them took a drink order or handed us menus. After another 5 minute the male employee emerged and went right to clearing a table outside. We sat for over 10 minutes and we're never handed a menu or had our drink order taken! Sorry but some people do not have all day to sit around while you guys dilly dally. Customer comes in, they should immediately be greeted, handed a menu, and offered a drink. Then go clear the table that needs to be clear. Then come back and ask if they've decided on lunch. Making customers wait because of your inefficiency to multitask and to not keep customers waiting for a beverage on an afternoon is ridiculous! read more

The food was horrible today. Generally before now it was decent and fairly good. Today maybe was an off day but everything was horrible. We got into the restaurant at 5 give or take and sat down quickly. Alls going good so far. We wait a couple minutes for a menu and a drink order is placed at around 5:15. according to a blond hostess our ticket wasn't rang in until 5:30. We only found that out when I had to go up to ask about our order at 5:50. Our order finally came out at 6:20 and not once was our drinks refilled for over an hour. When we finally got the food an hour and a half later we just took it to go to save extra waiting on the check. It didn't help that the food was pretty soggy. Also, I'm deaf and (like many other disabled people out there) I went there with low expectations on being understood or even treated normally. Not only was the food good however, but the server who waited on us was so kind and patient and accommodating. He communicated with us through paper and pen and didn't make a spectacle of us. Went to Ackerky's last night for the first time in a bit. Be forewarned the Oyster Night, Wednesdays buck a shuck, even though promoted on the homepage of their website is no longer. Son & I were in the mood for oysters and that's what motivated us to go. We were the only table with one person at the bar. We ordered a dozen and then 6 more because of the special. The bill came and they were $2.50 each; $45 instead of $18. The $27 xtra won't break our bank but bothered by waitress/bartender Chelsea's lack of concern when I pointed it out on the bill and asked about it. She said prices went up so they cancelled it; last summer. I told her it was still on homepage of website and she said owner hasn't gotten around to changing it. No apology or anything. The food was good, not great.... As was the service, pleasant but not overly. Somewhat distracted by a friend at the bar but got the job done. Sons steak was very good my scallops were okay-menu said pan seared but no crispness on outside or browning and seemed more steamed than seared. Sides were good. Based on the false marketing, just average service and quality of food, probably won't go back. Too bad as they're only 10 minutes from home. read more

I've now been to Ackerly's 5 times and will continue to go. I've gotten the lobster roll 3 times, Haddock once, and Steak once. I love the lobster roll and haddock, but will note that the fried haddock has a lighter breading. My husband didn't love it, but I think he was expecting a beer batter with a very crispy texture so I guess it depends on preference. Tonight, we went back with a restaurant.com gift certificate again so that I could justify trying the steak at $18 that was I was told was not cooked correct to temp and was very fatty by a family member who tried it previously. Unfortunately, I had the same experience. I ordered the Rib Eye at medium rare and it came to me rare. Our waitress promptly recognized this and took it back to the kitchen. When I checked it in front of her, it was medium-well. She offered to bring me a new steak but I didn't want to wait as my husband was already half done his. The steak itself was flavorful, but very fatty. I know that a ribeye can be fatty, I wasn't expecting quite this much, but I am not experienced enough with this cut of meat to know if it's "too much". The meal was promptly taken off our bill and we were given a complimentary dessert (the giant cookie with ice cream - AMAZING). We certainly appreciated them doing these things. I will continue to go back for the things I like, and to keep trying new things, but will skip the steaks in the immediate future. read more

NH is not known for it's cuisine, and while Ackerly's is not a fine dining establishment, it is a great meal, and they do have some nicer surprise meals - like the vegetable risotto. My boyfriend and I came here to finally try things out after driving by so many times. When we arrived, the high top seating by the bar was pretty full but the regular dining area was empty. The hostess, who greeted us with a smile and cheerful demeanor, gave us a choice of where we wished to sit. Shortly thereafter our waitress came by to take our drink order. All was good so far. She was back in ample time to take our order for apps and a meal. We ordered the spinach dip and pretzels for the app. The spinach dip is much different than what you might expect. It's more cheese with a blend of fresh spinach baked in. It comes with toasted bread cut into triangles. Much more dip than toast provided, but the dip was yummy. The pretzels were pretty good, but what seemed to be homemade mustard was a bit too tangy. For meals he ordered the Seafood Risotto & I had the Baked Haddock. The wait between our apps and meals was kind of delayed. There was a table of 2 that came 15 mins after us and a table of 4 that came about 18 mins after us that received their meals before us. Our waitress would walk by and check on the other tables, but walk right by us. After nearly 20 mins, she came by and said our food would "be right out" - another 11 mins passed before our meals arrived. Thankfully the meals were hot; my guess is the kitchen messed up. The food was good, I don't really have any complaints about that. I just felt the service was a little disappointing. I would like to go back, I'd give it another shot. read more
