We've been here a few more times. For whatever reason, we have had a couple bad experiences with rude waitresses. Then my daughter had a customer waiting in line yelled at her before being seated another time. While we liked the food here, I don't know if we're going make this a regular stop. Came in for breakfast on 7/25/2025. Place was busy but we were quickly seated at the bar (had the option to wait for a booth or table, would have been about ten minutes, very reasonable). Our server was Ronda, she did a decent job, especially considering how busy she was. I ordered 3 buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup and a side of sausages. The Pancakes were large, fairly fluffy and the real maple syrup was good (2.95 up charge, but worth it.). The downside was 3 sausage links for $4.25 if I had to guess the Jones frozen ones, not good. My wife ordered a breakfast sandwich which came with home fries. She ordered some corned beef hash (but it never came). She said both were good. My chicken croquets were delicious, it came with butternut squash, which was a nice choice, and our french fries were hot and tasty. I can only assume that's so they can dodge taxes and squirrel away enough hush money for the inevitable lawsuits once the health department gets wind of their bacterial buffet. I have had breakfasts at 4 and 5 star hotels. Village Kitchen has them beat. The Village Kitchen is the greatest place in the world for breakfast. Its just a fact. Rhonda and the team there are all great; fast, quick, knowledgeable, friendly. Unreal! Their eggs, toast, those home fries done right ( little onion, wedge-cut potato's-top shelf.) Their pancakes..amazing! Plus, a really great view outside of the mountains. Lots of nice locals there. Beware; esp on weekends, there will be a long line. A local favorite, this place is fantastic for breakfast but be sure arrive by 11:30 to partake. They often have daily specials but the most common and popular dish is the Farmer's Breakfast which will surely satisfy your appetite! Well when you walk in the don't take cards so if you want to eat you have to take money out of atm. The owner of the atm machine who is the restaurant gets $2.50 then your bank will charge you. So for my I paid $5.50 just to sit down while I just give the restaurant $2.50 already. Most times when I place does this I leave however no other close places to eat and thought this place was going to be amazing. Let's just say it's very far from it. McDonald's would have been better. I ordered the hungry man breakfast. Toast was burnt, French toast was a thin slice of bread and zero flavor. What happened to Texas toast and cinnamon for French toast. It was pretty thin. The home fries good part real potatoes (that's the one star) however the flavor was just pepper. Nothing else. They were awful. I would have just left but I'm stuck working up here so I forced myself to eat some of it. The bacon did not taste like real bacon. Really tastes like turkey bacon. It was not good bacon at all. The plate was also 13.95 but then add the $5.50 I had to pay just to sit it's a very expensive breakfast especially when it was awful and I mean awful. I will not ever step foot in this place. I would say that this place is absolutely amazing. My family (mother and brother) and I were visiting the lakes region in New Hampshire and were on a short weekend trip. It was the morning of our return, we planned on arriving back home pretty late so we took our time searching for a spot to eat that was open on Sunday. We luckily found your beautiful breakfast place and it was pretty spectacular to say the least. I usually don't write lengthy reviews on regular looking breakfast diners but this is an exception. The first thing that we are welcomed to is the option to sit wherever we want which is a great option for me. I got a hot chocolate, my mother got a hot coffee and my brother got a root beer. The hot chocolate was very clearly high quality and the root beer of my brother was much, much higher quality than any root beer I've tried. I haven't even started on how amazing the pancakes were. To sum it all up, I think me and my mothers outlook on life has been changed forever due to these pancakes. I got a chocolate chip one and dearest mother got a blueberry one. The frequency and the abundance of the ingredients was absolutely perfect. There were so many chocolate chips and so many blueberries in each pancake. The dough had a perfect density and didn't make me feel sick if i ate too much, like other pancakes did. Not to mention the very generous scoop of butter that was served on top of it that melted perfectly, AND the very cute little glass bottle the syrup was served in (the syrup was SO GOOD by the way. it was perfect as well). My brother got a breakfast sandwich served on a bagel that I didn't try because i'm not a huge fan of breakfast bagels, but he really seemed to enjoy it so thats good . What I did try, though, were the potato wedges that were served to accompany it. I loved those a LOT and the seasoning it was served with and how it was fried was perfect. To wrap things up, I'd say that this place is ABSOLUTELY worth going to, including the nice view of a couple of mountains you can see if you sit to the back side of the restaurant. 10/10, changed my outlook on life. read more

We had the soup (lobster bisque) perfect temperature chunks of lobster meat and just the right amount of sherry. Hubby had special fried haddock. It was crisp and flavorful. I had a grilled cheese. Crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Wait staff was attentive and pleasant. Don't look for gourmet meals or fancy digs, but go for a down home cooked meal. Great menu. I arrived to Village Kitchen with a large group of my associates, all very hungry and expecting a pleasant experience. Upon looking over their menu I was surprised to see a " Fried Chicken Burger " option. This place was very diner-esque, so seeing this on the menu definitely caught my attention. I decided to go for it, after all life is all about trying new things. I paired my food order with a diet coke, which came in a very cool cup, I was excited about that. When the food started to come out I prepared my palate accordingly by taking a few sips of water. Upon receiving my " Fried Chicken Burger " I was appalled to see a chicken patty that looked like it had come from an elementary school cafeteria, sitting atop a bun that was severely over-toasted. I was beside myself to say the least. Offering a Fried Chicken Burger on the menu, and being delivered something that is clearly not fried is upsetting to say the least. I really like fried food. My acquaintance, Matthew, who was sitting directly in front of me giggled upon seeing my food. I felt as if i was wearing a dunce cap, a complete and utter fool, feeling sad and impotent. I mustered up the courage to try my food, and to no surprise it disappointed me. I ended up only eating the bun with some mayonnaise spread lightly on it. Our family loves coming here for a hearty country meal that doesn't cost a lot of money. We normally come for breakfast - pancakes, waffles, french toast, omlettes, corned beef hash, etc. The food is fresh and delicious, and the service is prompt and friendly. It's not very fancy - paper napkins, plastic plates and plain flatware, but it's clean and a nice homey atmosphere. Note: They do NOT take credit or debit cards! Cash or checks only. They DO have an ATM machine in the foyer though. Like I mentioned above, it's not expensive. It's in the ballpark of $7 per person for breakfast. They have a small kids section on the menu. They do not offer any sort of coloring sheets or activities for kids, so you might bring a coloring book in with you if your kids need something like that. On the bright side, the food comes quick so you won't be waiting long. This morning when we had breakfast there, it was pretty busy, and as a result pretty noisy inside. My family had all just rolled out of bed, so we had bed-head and my wife made me wipe the dried druel off the side of my face after we sat down at the table in the restaurant. We at least put on clothes before we went though. There were other people in the restaurant still wearing their pajamas - no joke! My mother-in-law tells me that they have really good home-cooked meals for dinner, too - things like pot roast or meat loaf, etc. I have not been there for dinner, but I suspect it would be good stuff based on my experiences there at breakfast. Many people love this place, but I'm not sure why. It's about the only place people can get breakfast near my house, so I've taken a bunch or friends there (you know, folks who like to go out to breakfast because they're used to living near Denny's or similar) Seating area is awkward. Service is not so good. This place makes a bad breakfast by my cooking standards, which is saying something. I can abuse an egg or make limp hash browns as well as anyone. Services is abrupt and cranky and food is just so-so if I'm being extra kind. (There's a restaurant in Boston that specializes in this and I knew a bunch of people who went there for the fun of it. Guess what, service here is not fun. ) I don't ask for a lot, so long as the waitress listens to what I say, brings me the right thing and doesn't appear to want to spit on me I'm cool. Not so here folks. No matter how polite and minimal you are you still feel like they hate you and your friends. And I'm from here, which makes it all the more confusing. I have nothing about me that makes people cranky. I'm so polite I'm talking to a therapist about my inability to stand up for myself , and I have no baggage with the owners or the employees (local thing everyone knows everything about everyone, but seriously these people don't know me. And I was outrageously polite to all of them and left big tips that weren't deserved 4x) 2nd worst hash browns I ever saw. Coffee is okay. Their remarks about grits are offensive. I was born in NH and I think you're being small minded and possibly racist when I see that kind of junk on your menu. The food was great..BUT.. the service was terrible. The girl at the front counter said "how many?" We replied 4. Two of our party were still walking in from the parking lot. She said "where's the rest of you?" Then proceeded to hand us menus and said there's a table in the back. There were 2- one in each separate corner. We didn't know which one to pick. Never been to a restaurant where there's a hostess but handed menus and then left to seat ourselves. The waitress waited on everyone else around us that arrived after us before finally taking our order after 15 minutes of waiting. We realized those parties knew the waitress because at one point she sat down and chatted with them for awhile. When we went to pay the same young girl that handed us menus didn't say a word as I handed her the check. She said the total. I handed her the money and she handed me the change and didn't say one word. Not "how was your meal?" Or "thank you".. nothing. She was the rudest restaurant employee I've ever encountered. I went here for my birthday with a friend. We walked in and, Holy Mother, what was that heavenly smell? Fresh Cinnamon Rolls, My Friends. We ordered one as a breakfast appetizer (it was my bday, no judging) and it was huge and light and amazing. I ordered the 2 egg bkfst and it was cheap and tasty. Breakfasts have been in the summer and the one dinner was either early winter-early spring. Right off the bat, I can tell you I docked 1 star for no cards. That's the only bad thing I've seen with this place. First of all, excellent menu selection! All the breakfast staples are covered there. The pancakes I had a while back were really good, and the poached eggs on corned beef hash I had recently were excellent. Eggs were perfectly poached! Hooray! My friend had an omelette, which she enjoyed. The menu said their bread was home-baked, but I think it was just the white bread (friend had white, I had wheat). No problem! Toast was not the main affair here. To be honest, I can only remember a few things about my dinner because it was like a year ago. BUT- their clam chowder is excellent. No idea why my palate picked the Village Kitchen's chowder to enjoy the most, but here we are. I am PRO-VK chowder. The ambiance was really nice inside for winter. Prices were as good as the meals.
