Dor my sides, I went with potato salad and mac and cheese. Originally, I was looking at the onion rings, but I asked if they were made in-house and the polite young man working the counter replied that all the fried food was frozen. I asked if the other stuff was made in-house and he confirmed that it was. While I waited for my food, I noticed how small the place was. Not a big deal, but I did notice. The ambiance was not bad, though. My food came out pretty quickly. The mac and cheese, supposedly made in house, tasted more like it came out of a box (like Kraft macaroni and cheese). I guess technically even if it was out of a box with dehydrated cheese and you just add milk, it is theoretically still made in-house. Basically, the mac and cheese was definitely a huge let down. The potato salad was pretty good. I enjoyed it. This was the best thing on my plate. The pulled pork was also disappointing. I have to wonder if this was bought from a food distributor. Our food was ready in a decent amount of time. There is no table service; you just pick the food up from where you order it. The dining area is not very big, but feels old and dull/dim. There was one table where the chairs were moved away and on the table were some miscellaneous things that looked like they were going to be hung on the wall (some old 45 records, pictures, etc) along with the hammer and hanging kit. It was just odd that the stuff was just left out like that with no one around. All in all, not a bad experience but not a good one. I should have figured it out when I pulled into the parking and saw only one vehicle at 5pm. The ribs were pretty bad, either pressure cooked or boiled, they were NOT slow cooked over hot coals and had no flavor. As for the sides, I was NOT impressed. Buck's is pretty decent bbq. I wish they didn't put slaw, pickles, and mayo on their sandwiches automatically. I missed this info and got home with a sandwich that became cat food b/c I hate all of that on my sandwich. Also, the baked beans were so hot (spicy) that even my ears burned. I don't remember either of these things being the case before. Not going to rate them low b/c of my preferences but I definitely didn't enjoy my lunch today. The food was alright, the staff are friendly and it was fairly quick service. Although the menu is only on one spot so you have to look quick or the people behind you get angry. We got a pulled chicken loaded potato, fried pickles, chips and queso, and an order of 12 cornbread rolls. The yeast roll I got with the loaded baked potato was the best yeast roll I have ever had. I highly recommend to get it or an order of 12 of them. The loaded potato was lacking compared to Whitt's loaded potato, it was also somewhat raw in places which is a huge no no. I had to heat it up in the microwave to cook it the rest of the way. The barbecue sauce that came with it was ok, kind of tasted like store bought. The queso was fire, the chips were fresh and crisp. The fried pickles were not the best fried pickles I have had. They were mostly just spicy. I would definitely come back for the rolls and I may try the nachos. read more

Went to Buck's ordered pulled pork nachos there were no beans on it and no jalapenos on it. Very little cheese. Also ordered pulled chicken nachos and the pulled chicken was tough. Did not care for it. Ordered a side of okra. Didn't know that a large was a pound. I guess I should have asked that I asked for them not to be burnt cause the last time they were they were still burnt. I wasted $36 on food that was not good at all. I've gone there lots of times and this is the first time that I can really complain outside of the last time getting a bag of burnt beyond eating okra. I've ordered okra at a lot of restaurants and I've never had them like this. I don't know if their grease was old or what. The situation was the fact that they smelt burnt. They looked burnt and I just was not pleased. I will not go back again. Really sad. My husband said make nachos at home from here on out. He actually said he couldn't justify the $36 that was spent. She ordered & paid. They wrapped them. She went to the car and opened the foil. They'd given her 2 dried out slabs of rib. She went back in & got refund. Very good BBQ if you're ok with no brisket options. We usually order the turkey baked potato and love it. The sides are very good too and they have our favorite crinkle fries. I would have given 5 stars if the refillable drinks were available for easy refill but they're not. Currently, sitting here thirsty while eating my lunch, there are 10 people in line at the small window, behind which the drinks are location. This is a deal killer for my family and myself. Our drinks are as important as our meal and when refills aren't available, we usually choose another place to eat or just bring our own drinks with us to avoid this frustration. There's a reason we regularly make a 20 minute drive up to Goodlettsville, and Buck's BBQ nachos are it. Describing how delicious these BBQ nachos are could not do them justice. Sure, it's your basic nacho structure - chips, beans, meat, cheese - but for some reason, the combination here just can't be beat. First, their baked beans are sweeter than most other similar places around here. That sweetness is a nice contrast with the tangy meat (I always get the smoked turkey, but have tried the smoked pork in the past). Then, they top it all with white queso. A packet of sour cream and BBQ sauce are also included, although I never use these. When I don't have my nacho blinders on, I've tried their plate dinners before as well. They have really good smoked turkey. Most other places will give you a breast-size piece of smoked turkey, but Buck's resembles their pulled pork, so you feel like you're getting the BBQ experience with fewer calories (which is what we all think about when we go to BBQ joints, right?!). Their sides are all fantastic - in addition to the beans, they also have a vinegar-based slaw and creamy potato salad (made with mustard, I believe). They offer specials every day, but the Friday special is my favorite: BBQ nachos! The staff is always courteous and quick, and I can't remember a bad experience here. read more

We got there around 4:00 and I questioned whether or not they were open because it was totally dead. But alas, they were open. My brother noted that this is often the case with this place. Reading the reviews on here, I decided to go with the BBQ Nachos with pulled pork and a sweet tea. My brother got the "Fry-chos" which is basically the nachos except with fries instead of chips. The tea was good, not overly sweet where my teeth were hurting afterward. We waited at a table for about 5 minutes before our order was ready. The nachos were just ok. There was only a little bit of the toppings but a ton of chips. The pork tasted pretty good, and so did the beans. I didn't really care for the actual cheese sauce, from the small amount that I actually got. I put some BBQ sauce on after I got them, and the actual flavor of the sauce was decent, but definitely not the best I've had. I've had better sauce out of the bottle... This place is alright, but not a place that I would go out of my way to visit again. My brother really likes it, but it's just not really for me. Buck's is a great choice if you are looking for the best barbecue nachos around Nashville. These nachos are like none you've ever had and have to be experienced to understand why. You receive a generous portion of chips, baked beans, your choice of smoked meat (pork or turkey), and a warm layer of white jalapeno queso poured over this divine concoction. They give you a packet of sour cream and some barbecue sauce, but I have never seen the need since you have the cheese and the beans have just enough sauce, but this is just my personal preference. I know that this sounds like the standard recipe for nachos and any barbecue place around Nashville, but these are simply distinct and delicious. I think that the key differences are their bean recipe and the use of white over yellow queso. As a general rule, when it comes to barbeque I am a purist and only eat smoked pork or beef. Buck's smoked turkey is the rare exception to that rule. As a matter of fact, it is so good that since it is the first thing I tried from there, I haven't tried anything else on the menu and will have to update this review when I finally force myself to try the other "real" barbecue. The key to their turkey over other places I have tried, is that they pull their turkey from a whole turkey breast, while the others I have tried typically have a slice turkey that resembles something you would get sliced at a deli. I have also tried the smoked turkey plate with baked beans, slaw, and a roll. The baked beans are a good balance of sweet, smoky, and savory. The slaw is a vinegar-based slaw that has a nice crunch and slight sweetness to counter the tartness of the vinegar. This slaw has absolutely no mayonnaise, which I feel is a nice, healthy change from the typical mayo laden slaw you usually receive at local barbecue joints. I don't have any nutritional info on this plate, but I imagine that it is light years healthier than a traditional barbecue plate and loaded with lean protein. Their barbecue sauce is a tomato based vinegary sauce with a nice peppery kick, but is not thick and sugary like many other sauces you will find. I have never dined in, but the staff working the drive thru is always nice and efficient. They also have some great desserts, including banana pudding if you can possibly think about dessert after your meal. With just a short drive north, I promise you will find the best smoked turkey around Nashville and a great alternative when you want barbecue without the guilt. read more

I've just eaten something really interesting: BBQ Nachos with Queso at Buck's BBQ in Goodlettsville. The hubs and I were in the area in an attempt to brunch at Chef's Market (which BTW offers some of the best fresh food in Nashville) but they apparently aren't open on Sunday We drove around a bit in an attempt to find a replacement and we stumbled upon Buck's BBQ. I guess this place used to be called Stroude's. I'm not sure how long ago it switched, but both would have been new to us. Buck's is a no frills, zero atmosphere joint offering the normal pulled pork + 2 sides in addition to chicken, ham, and baked potato options (plus ribs on Friday and Saturday). I noticed a number of patrons with nacho plates. Now, I've never had the opportunity to mix two of my loves: bbq pork and queso so I though "why not?!?" We sat at our fast food-esqe table for about 5 minutes waiting on the preparation. They shouted our order from the little window and we secured two Styrofoam containers. Inside we found nacho chip smothered in: pulled pork, sweet bbq baked beans, queso and a small tube of sour cream. There only seems to be one type of sauce and it was on the table. The sauce is mild, sweet, and red - but not too thick. I'm no fan of overly-vinegary sauce so I was pleased with the taste. The portion was pretty generous, but it could have used a couple more chips as we both had topping remaining at the bottom of our container. Would I order it again? Probably not. It's indulgent and heavy and a little over-the-top. It's unique and worth trying once, but IMHO the two flavors don't really mesh together. I will give them props for offering real Mexican restaurant quality queso. I was impressed with the pork too. It's nice and moist. Because I liked the sauce, I suspect the meat+2 offering would be tasty too. Alas, Goodlettsville is a bit of a drive for me and the second location in Gallatin is also too far out. Stingy, stingy, stingy! I just tried Buck's for the first time; I placed a to-go order at the drive through. I spent $9 on a pork plate and a medium drink. The plate consisted of an ice cream scoop full of meat and a golf-ball sized corn muffin! The little carton of sauce was half the size of a sauce pot you'd get anywhere else. It appeared to be approximately a tablespoon of sauce, which, I guess considering the puny amount of meat I was given, was appropriate. The sauce didn't even taste good; I ended up using something I had at home instead. The sides were in the same sized styrofoam containers that you would find at most other local BBQ joints, but the food itself was nothing to write home about. The potato salad was too tangy for my tastes, and the baked beans had an odd pepperiness about them. The sweet tea tasted fine and was sweet enough, but it was warm. I will not be going back. For $9 at my other BBQ haunts (Centerpoint and Jack's specifically), you get much more food for the money (and it tastes better). read more

Pulled pork really didn't have any flavor and the baked beans tasted stale. The drive thru menu and window are horribly placed. You basically make a 90° turn with your car. I ended up going over the curb and had to put my car in reverse just to get to the window. The truck behind me had the same issue.
