The portion size is way more than I can eat in one sitting, and the flavor is hot, fresh and crispy! It comes with macaroni salad and sautéed vegetables. But they have traded the macaroni salad for french fries and still, the french fries alone are a double order! But the fish itself is the silver bullet in this dish, it truly is extraordinary. Sherrie agrees with me, but she loves the Short Rib dinner, so that's what she had tonight. Take a look at my meal tonight, then look at how much was left over after I was done. I had called in my order ahead of time for takeout and it didn't take more than 2 minutes to be served. I gave them my name and they went inside to get the 5 pieces of chicken and large Mountain Dew I'd ordered. It was around $22 plus a tip which in this economy isn't half bad! The chicken is plenty moist and thick, the batter lends its own flavor and texture, and once you add a little salt to the chicken it's a wonderful case of beauty in simplicity! I also love how you can choose all white cutlets, all dark cutlets, or a mix of the two (I always pick this option.) Even though I love the thigh strips, I do feel the need to break them up with the breast meat, it would be too much otherwise. Their house made tartar is top of the line as well! This is a place that's seen a lot of ownership changes, so congratulations to the current family for making their own mark on this iconic place, while also respecting the legacy :). I will be back!

But I did have a Chef Salad, a Philly Cheese sandwich, a Club House sandwich and a Potato Salad side serving. The big question for me: Is Dizzy's a burger joint trying to be a restaurant? If the Philly Steak sandwich is any measure, Dizzy's is a restaurant--the Philly Steak is delicious. Not only the flavor of the meat and its generous portion, but the pairing of cheese and bell pepper takes this entrée over the top. But I do notice the at-onetime-side of fries, has become a small slice of toast, which makes no sense as the side to a hoagie bun (or was it meant for the salad with croutons?--either way, who wants bread with their bread. Still, top marks for the Philly (with or without fries)! Otherwise, the Chef Salad and the Club House sandwich were both exercises in processed food--the same cold cut meats used in both. Whether you like your luncheon meat with lettuce, or with bread, you're in for the same experience at the same price. My point: neither are restaurant quality because the 1/16" thin slices of ham and turkey, and yellow-n-white cheeses, and bacon...can't compete with the major restaurants in Wenatchee who slice fully-cooked ham and turkey. Yet the menu prices at Dizzy's are within a dollar of those at Rail House, or McGlinns, or even Denny's. The potato salad side is just a courtesy side dish. The single slice of pickle on top doesn't make it a flavor pairing. I think Reser's Potato Salad from WinCo would be a better choice. I will return for the cheeseburgers...promise! After all, Dizzy's has been around for at least 16 years--that's to their credit; they've got to be doing something right, right? It certainly isn't their lunch meat offerings. Finally, gotta say, the guy cooking, and the Gal at the window were both charming, great service providers!

Again, there were not a lot of options and I was driving so I was unable to read the reviews. When we pulled up to the address, we thought it was a residence with three cars parked outside. We double-checked the information and saw a sign that this was indeed The Raven and Rooster. We also found something that said they offer outdoor seating, but we didn't see anything like that. Because we travel with our dog, I asked my husband to go in and check while I waited outside with her. When he came back he confirmed that although it looks like a house, the front room area has been converted to look like a restaurant with multiple tables. He was told there was outdoor seating in the rear and that we could walk around and seat ourselves. There were some shrubs to the right of the building with a small break between them and the building, so we assumed that was the way to get to the rear from the outside because there was no obvious route. As we were walking through the gravel area on the side of the house, someone inside the kitchen area began banging on the window. It scared me. I looked up to see a man waving his arms at us. I could not make out what he was saying but he seemed very angry. We continued to the rear and there was a small deck with a few tables on it. I told my husband that this all felt very weird and I didn't not feel like staying. He said he was very hungry and couldn't find anywhere else to eat in the area, so I agreed to stay. The setup in the back looked more like somebody's backyard with a few tables, then a restaurant patio. After a while, a young boy (maybe 13) came outside with some menus. I got the impression that this is a small family-run operation where the owner and his son most likely live on site and run this small business together. While I respect the effort that goes into running a small business, as a customer, the experience still matters. After seeing a menu prices I again told my husband that I wanted to leave. I was not expecting to pay $30+ per plate to get bit by mosquitoes at what felt like a neighbor's potluck. He again, replied that he was starving and asked if we could just please get through it. He ordered the brisket and I ordered the nachos. After placing our order, the young man said it would be a very long wait for food. He was right. They were also out of some items which made the menu more limited but I do understand that as they are kind of out in the middle of nowhere. When our food finally arrived, I thought that there had been a mistake or perhaps they were out of the items to make my meal as well. I asked the young man if he was sure that he had brought me the correct plate and he said yes. I explained that I had ordered nachos and there were no chips on my plate. Apparently their version of nachos is made with potatoes instead of tortilla chips, which was definitely unexpected. The food itself was actually tasty after I got past the potato confusion. My husband also enjoyed his brisket. Unfortunately, the food is the only part of this experience that can earn any stars. There were bugs everywhere, the patio furniture was dirty and because the sun was going down it got freezing cold by the time we finally received our food and finished eating. We ended up spending around $80 for the two of us to eat. If we paid a lower price for a casual roadside meal, I think I could be more forgiving about the slow service, unusual setup and lack of ambiance, but at that price point, I expect the overall dining experience to be more polished. I had hoped this would be a cozy dog friendly stop on our road trip. Instead it felt awkward, expensive, slow and incredibly uncomfortable. The food was good but not good enough to save this unpleasant experience.

Ivar's has more creaminess and less clam flavor, and though Ivar's from Costco is the low-cost leader, it doesn't compare with EZ's "Dock" brand. I finally interviewed EZ's about it. The recipe is the owner's. "Docks" is the owner's copyrighted brand. It is fully prepared from scratch on site and I believe it is only sold out of this location. They started selling a larger 20 oz. size a few months ago and it's the perfect dinner size, completely satisfying (see the pic). - Scott
