The burgers here are always good! If you want your classic American burger this place will not disappoint. Now as far as their chili cheese goes it isn't your normal chili that you would expect from places. It's more of a ground beef than a chili. If they would just change the wording on their menu I think the reviews would go up since most people are complaining about the chili not being chili. My dad still relives his high school glory days through stories he tells that always end with him and his "gang" at Buddy Burgers... and that was in the 60's (you do the math). Yeah, it's that old. Although in recent years I've seen them add a few odd items to the menu here and there (mostly desserts), the main staples are simple: burgers, hot dogs, and fries. Add chili to any one of those orders and you've got the most delectable heartburn $5-10 could buy. Don't be scared though - it's totally worth it. Just bring a handful of Tums if you're sensitive to spice or grease. You'll get your fair share of both with any meal you order, free of charge. The food here is very unique in that it will honestly taste like no burger or fries you've ever had before. I promise. It's just one of those experiences you have to have if ever living in or visiting Oxnard, CA. My parietal lobe is doing the Cupid Shuffle just thinking about it. Mmmmmm... Review based on Take Out. Overall 4 out of 5. This is a great, old fashioned, little "hole in the wall" venue. My husband's family had been coming here for decades and they said it's still as good as it's always been. The Good: They have these awesome burgers that are so tasty with classic toppings available.As a bonus, they have these little yellow peppers you can put in your burger/cheeseburger. Even if you're like me and don't typically eat spicy food, using the peppers brings the meal to a whole new level! I recommend starting off by using one pepper, opening the end, and squeezing the juice onto your burger. You can always add some extra ketchup if it gets too hot. As for the fries, they are very good. They were hot and fresh when we got our order. Classic sodas and beverages are available. The Bad: The burgers are small. They are moderately bigger than ones on a typical kids menu but still smaller than adult/average. I'd say order at least 2 single cheeseburgers if you want to be satisfied; order more or get double patties if you're really hungry. Also, there's no indoor seating. You order and pick up at the same window. There is a small patio next to the parking lot but since this is off a busy street, the noise level is loud. It also gets busy there so give yourself plenty of time - they cook to order. Overall, we will continue the family tradition & keep coming to this place! =) read more

First of all when I was telling him the order half the order he wrote down correctly. I repeated it again. I ordered me a burger and my son a plain chicken sandwich he wrote mines wrong but it came out correct he wrote down my son order correct but it came out wrong. Ask me how you have to ask them. I didn't know it was wrong until I got halfway home and I am pulling out the food giving it to my son and notice it had all the things in it I said I didn't want. I wash my hands to eat but they don't wash their hands to prepare my food. The cashier will take your money and go touch the food with her dirty hands. I have seen transients pull money out of their pockets and pay it to the cashier. She will grab it then go touch food without washing her hands. I have seen the cook wearing rubber gloves preparing the food, go grab money, count it, then just go back and continue preparing the food with the same dirty gloves. DISGUSTING!!! As others have said, Buddy Burger is an old school staple of downtown Oxnard. I've driven by it countless times throughout my life, but have never had the opportunity to check it out. Now, after being gone for many years, I've returned to the area for good and have decided to check it out. My only sorrow is that I've neglected coming for so long. If you want a good cheap burger, then Buddy Burger is one of the best choices you can get in the community. The burgers have a very homemade/homestyle taste, and that is what makes them above and beyond most of the other options around. The fries are also delicious, but you have to enjoy grease, else you may be sickened (be forewarned, this is not for healthy of heart). I've yet to try the chili, but after reading other reviews here, I may have to go out and try it very soon. I have had the taquitos, however, and those are worth checking out. There is still no indoor seating, but that doesn't matter, as I usually eat in my car as I'm going to another destination. That's just the way Buddy Burger has always been, and downtown isn't as bad as it (arguably) used to be, but that's a whole other story. The one downfall of Buddy Burgers are the fact that the burgers are small. However, this is offset by the fact that they're pretty cheap, and if you are still hungry, just order another one! Definitely a must try for anyone exploring the downtown Oxnard area. read more

I came here after looking online at the reviews and wanting chili cheese fries. Me and the kids wanted chili cheese fries for a while and wanted to try a local spot. Well, next time I will make the extra 10 minute drive to weinerschnitzel (however you spell it) because the chili on these fries looked like cat food and tasted the same. I was shocked because the menu had pretty much chili on everything. I figured you can't go wrong with chili if its on 90% of the items on the menu. Well, I was WRONG!! My BF had the burger with chili and luckily the chili was not added on the burger because that was the only thing that got eaten. The kids didn't even want to eat the stuff.
