I was weary about visiting considering the reviews, but I wanted to give it a shot anyway. I gotta say, I really was not disappointed with my experience. I got a bacon, egg & cheese on an everything bagel; it was served up quickly- I think I waited 5 minutes? Veryyyy fresh and tasty! However, what I will say was that based on the tastiness of the sandwich overall, I am not sure I would recommend getting the bagel by itself. Which is ironic considering it IS a bagel joint. I found the bagel to be somewhat bland, considering it was an everything bagel, I wanted more of a pop in the bagel flavor. So overall, would I recommend? Yeah, I would! Against my better judgement I went back to Buddy's. Didn't have time went strictly for convenience since we had a houseful of guests. Went arrived just after opening which they weren't even prepared for. No plain cream cheese available so I only grabbed the green scallion cream cheese. The pieces of onion could have been cut a lot smaller. The bagels were still in bags from being delivered I am assuming that they baked somewhere else. With that being said they did not seem fresh at all. I was embarrassed after serving the bagels. They were tough, and needed to be toasted just to eat. A good fresh bagel does not need to be toasted! This is my personal opinion with having lived in 2 cities that specialized in bagels. I've been here before however this time I really was disappointed. Ordered my usual everything bagel, scooped, toasted well, scallion cream cheese, egg and cheese. Bagels are good but almost too big for one person. Since I simply ordered 3 bagels to go, I was surprised there was a tip of $2.25 added to my bill without my permission. The credit machine faded in and out which made it difficult to know what I was signing for until I received my receipt. This resulted in each bagel price at $3.25. We are long time customers of the Lox and Eggs store that Buddy's took over. The price of Bagels has doubled. OK, fine, everything went up.....I accept that. What needs mentioned, tho, is that the formula has changed. The bagels are now using much more "white" flour as opposed to a higher percentage of high-gluten flour before. I'm sure 90% plus of bagel eaters will not notice a difference. That's likely what Buddy's calculation was...to make much more profit and yet the consumers don't care. Very cute bagel shop with friendly and quick service and a good variety of bagels, cream cheeses, and menu items. We tried a sesame with salmon cream cheese and a sesame with veggie cream cheese. The cream cheeses were fresh and tasty, and the bagels were nice and soft. However, they weren't quite as big and chewy as what you'll get in NY/NJ. Two very good visits Yesterday I popped in for a good salty toasted Everything Bagel with a cream cheese schmear. My order taker was pleasant and efficiently sliced, toasted, and added plenty of cream cheese. I prefer too much vs too little, that way a disciplined person could remove any deemed to be excess. I'm not that disciplined and enjoyed it all. They have a few small tables inside and a few more outside next to the parking. I sat inside and while enjoying my bagel was able to look over their menu board and saw they also offer several sandwiches. One was a Reuben, which brings me to my second visit. For lunch today I was back at Brooklyn Bagels, this time for a delicious Reuben on Rye. My order taker, a different person than before, was also very pleasant. My sandwich was excellent. During both visits I was impressed the staff knew most of their customers by name and sometimes their usual order. read more

Not pleased with the breakfast sandwich meat to price ratio. Asked for a Taylor Ham, Egg and cheese with extra meat, on a Garlic bagel with pepper and ketchup. Got charged an extra $3.75 for the extra meat. What I got was 2 slices of Taylor Ham, with a fried egg and a slice of cheese on a grilled Garlic bagel. No pepper, no ketchup and if 2 slices of Taylor Ham is "extra", I guess a regular sandwich only has 1 slice of meat. Pricey sandwich was over $10.00. Not worth it!! Highly disappointed. Worst customer service Ever The first time I planned on going there, I called the day before to place an order,I gave them my name and phone number along with the order. day, I went to pick up the order and was told they didn't have an order for me, even though I had been told by whoever answered the phone the previous had my name and phone number on the order The second time I went there it was because I had called and no one answered the phone. when I got there, they were out of what I wanted. yesterday was in the I called the same. No one picked up the phone. I called six times in a row from my car just to see if they would ever pick up. On the seventh time someone picked up and I told them what I wanted. Thewoman who answered the phone couldn't understand what I wanted and that I wanted them sliced. She finally told me they had two of what I wanted left and she would have them ready for me. Two minutes after hanging up, I walked into the store, gave them my name and said they had an order waiting for me. The worker put the bag down in front of me and I opened it up to check it and it wasn't my order and they did not have the Bagels I had requested. I left and called and put in an order for today. When I went there today to pick them up, they had the order and when I told them that I had tried to call the store who never picked up they said oh that must be the Beneva store - they never answer their phone. When I said, the woman who finally answered the phone on the seventh ring, couldn't understand me they said oh that's because she doesn't speak English very well. I asked if the regional manager or store owner knew of these problems and they said they had no idea. Loved Brooklyn Bagels but came in first time today as Buddy's. It was lunch time and I just wanted a side salad w a small tuna salad. It wasn't something on the menu (was on catering menu) so kudos for them being nice and trying to put something together. Unfortunately, I got about six pieces of brown lettuce as the salad-literally nothing else. The tuna salad was about two tablespoons worth, and was super salty. I literally tried a bite of the tuna and just threw it all away. I want them to succeed so this is meant to help them improve. Im sure sticking to ordering a bagel will help. They finally reopened not too long ago so I ordered a few bagels for pick up.. the new young girl accidentally gave me the wrong closing time but fortunately I ran over just in time and they gave me 2 additional bagels. With great anticipation I went home and cut them open, toasted them with high heat , turning them, watching carefully to get the perfect crunch on the outside and softer chewy " doughiness" on the inside -- the qualities of a genuine old fashioned bagel. When super fresh the outside is also chewy with a softer inside. Alas.... the chewiness was not quite there like before. The texture was more like most local Sarasota bagels - - bread like. Now hearing that new owners just took over answers the change in texture. I hope they can confer with the former owner ( who has a larger Cafe in Venice) on how to bring the " traditional chewiness" back. Good luck! read more

My peers hyped this up over the years and I finally tried it, for the amount of food I got from the High Protein Platter + homefries and a Jalapenos bagel I wasn't impressed with the almost 20 dollar price tag. Really could of made the same caliber breakfast at home minus the bagel. Homefries were kinda crappy I was hoping for a more crisp fry. Eggs were eggs, bacon was nice and crispy. Wish they served corned beef hash, I bet it would be banger Bagel was really good and interesting l, never had a jalapeños bagel. I recommend it. Anywho, final verdict 3 stars. No breakfast in Sarasota holds a candle to Hanks food truck. Wish he'd come back around. read more

Good bagels and cream cheese spreads. Visited here this week and stopped in for a bagel box with 2 spreads. Bagels were fresh and veggie spread was great. The restaurant gets a lot of customers and weekends are busy. Be prepared to wait a bit but food seems good. Lots of regulars and a good selection so we will visit again. read more

My wife is due for labor today... and I went to Buddy's to get her a nice breakfast sandwich before her long day. After ordering her sandwich I asked the gentleman behind the counter if there was anything he would recommend for my wife who is expecting... he pointed out the muffins and I added a chocolate muffin to my order. When he rung up my order. I noticed I was only paying the amount of the sandwich and wanted to make sure he got the muffin too. He said, "your good!" I thanked him and payed. Once my sandwich was complete... I was greeted by him with an entire bag of cream cheese, bagels, chips.... Everything.... In the house. He said, "good luck today!" I have been a fine dining server for over 15 years... being in the industry can make you extremely picky about going places.
