I haven't been eating take out much with this crazy quarantine going on but I did see on Facebook a new place that opened up behind Jiggers on Vets in Metairie that had fish plates. I guess brcause this Corona season fell on Lent, every Friday I'd crave some fish fries for Frydays :-) Anyway I called ahead and ordered my and my hubby's fish plate. I ordered mac n cheese for the side dishes and boudin for an appetizer. I drive over, which is easy to locate since it is literally right behind Joggers and park in the 1 of 4 parking spots to call and let them know I was there. The chef, maybe owner Biddy, walks out with my food and hands me the plates. It's all packaged and because of corona I didnt want to touch anything till I got home. I get home and of course my fish plate was missing. I was so craving that and hungry so I called right away and said I'd have to drive back over since they forgot it and said I would eat my boudin first since I was so hungry. I called when I arrived and he said he would cook a fresh fish plate for me since the other was greasy and sat out. He apologized and offered me a beverage but I kindly declined. He got the plate out to me within minutes and I drove home. After eating, I must say this is delicious food. Fried comfort food is what is needed right now with everything going on. I am a boudin snob and that boudin was pretty damn good. The fish was a huge portion, also delicious and crunchy. The mac n cheese was creamy, almost like an alfredo sauce on top. Best Po'boy I've ever had! I stumbled across this little gem leaving the parking lot of Walgreens and man, am I happy the food Gods smiled down on me at that time. I wheeled into the parking lot of Buddy's and eagerly opened the door. It's tiny, like 6 tables or so, and welcoming. They have daily specials posted (all looked good) and I decided to feed my shrimp po'boy craving. I LOVE that the cook is right there, behind the counter, working her magic. After a few minutes of smell and sizzle heaven, I was handed a dressed po'boy. First bite, I cried. Happy tears. We are trying to support local businesses during the COVID pandemic. So tonight was Buddy's turn. We did a phone order and were told it would be ready in 20 minutes. We got there in exactly 20 minutes. We were greeted by a nice gentleman who got our order and brought it to us. We paid him and left a tip. We live 8 minutes from the restaurant. My husband liked the fried pork chops, but the breading fell off, and he was left with a pork chop and a pile of breading. Jambalaya he got as a side with them was acceptable. My mom got a hamburger on a bun, and I got a hamburger steak. It is in no way a hamburger. It should be called sloppy joe. It's ground meat (of some kind) in a strange liquid sauce or something. My 83 year old mom took one bite and asked for me to cook her something else. The hamburger steak was the same meat. Fries could have been good, but they were ice cold, kind if of gray in color and limp, like they were cooked a while ago. The onion rings were flavorful , but were cold and greasy. The salad had really nasty, old lettuce mixed in. It was definitely not refrigerated, because it was room temperature. The pieces of romaine were big, and only the green outside leaves. It was difficult to eat. I'm not used to having to cut the lettuce with a knife to eat it. I really wanted to like this place. I see it every time. I go to Walgreens and wanted to give it a try. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things. Can you say I'm pissed. I order a half shrimp half catfish plate. I ordered this because I work a 12 hour shift and need lunch and dinner and this is what I got. Then when I called I get nothing from whomever answered the phone. I guess this is what you get when you don't have transportation and you order through uber. Warm and welcoming atmosphere as soon as I walked in. The place is fairly small and hidden. We stopped here as our last stop before leaving NOLA. I got red beans, rice and pork chop. This was their special on Monday. The plate came with a small side of salad, including your choice of dressing, butter bread, red beans, rice, sausage and pork chop. So disappointed, new ownership within the last month. Less than 12 shrimp on a 12 inch Po Boy, not the Buddy's way. They had leaf lettuce on it instead of shredded iceberg. This was a huge let down from previous owners. read more

Absolutely horrible. I ordered the shrimp Po boy which was so small my infant toddler could have eaten it and still have been hungry. I also ordered some onion rings. For $4 I got five onion rings of medium to small size. Are you freakin kidding me!! Then I called the restaurant no one seems to answer around 230 because they close at 3. Was looking forward to a buddy's poboy as I hadn't been in a while. Called in the order and it was ready on time. ( Took two calls to get them to answer the phone. ). We brought the food home and found a very disappointing meal. Shrimp po boy was mediocre. It had a single brown wilted romaine leaf and an inconspicuous tomato piece-it couldn't be considered a slice. The kids chicken tenders were good but the fries were disgusting --grease laden limp and almost unidentifiable. Shameful they would serve this to children. The potato salad was not recognizable as such. New potatoes with no seasoning or flavor that looked a week old. Evidently this is new management bc I've never had a bad meal from there. My daughter treated me for a craving I'd been having for weeks. I should have called to demand a refund on her behalf. So much for an evening splurge from this coronacation. read more

This is a total dive located in a shack off of Veteren's right behind Jigger's Grill in Metry. The ambiance here seems more 1970's style than anything else I could pin on it. They have decent po boys, hamburgers, sandwiches, plate lunches and they offer fried chicken. They offer a "chicken loaf" which is half of a bone in chicken fried and served on top of two halves of garlic buttered French bread. They have some good seafood gumbo and some daily specials that are ok. The roast beef po boy is alright but could be better if it had more gravy. They have a few indoor seats and very limited outdoor seating. Most folks just pick up to go orders here. About the only issue I have with this place is they don't brew their own iced tea and rely on fountain "tea" which never tastes right. read more

Buddy's has been my favorite poboy place since i was young and it was a treat brought home by my dad if he went across the lake. You have to love the roast beef, it's the perfect juicy but crispy poboy I could imagine. The food is great. Probably my favorite Po Boy ever; however, the owner has an attitude when you call to place a to go order. I can't tell if he's just busy or what, but he's very rude and doesn't even say "thank you". When I picked up the order, he still never thanked me and acted as if he was doing me a favor. This is a great little lunch place which is a little hard to find. It does not front on Vets but rather on Orion just across the street from the side driveway to the Walgreens. The plate lunch portions here are generous and the po- boys as well. The fried seafood po-boys are the best. But what I get here mostly is the fried chicken which is well above average. It is a little lacking in spice, but it is cooked to order and nice and crunchy. You should call ahead and order because it takes a good 30 minutes to prepare. They have good fries, but the best side is the potato salad. It's one of the best in town. The place is very tiny, so you might have to take your lunch to go, but you can usually find a seat. read more

First time coming here while in town. My friends brought us so we had a few different things. The shrimp oyster po boy was awesome, fried chicken is a must here. Great seasoning and not over fried. New owner as of June 2013. I used to go this place with my mom when I was a kid. That was back in 1980 somthing. New owner says he's the 5th person to own this place. It's Monday so naturally I had the red beans which came with lettuce and tomatoes with a packet of italian dressing, french bread, and I decided to go with "pork chop" option. I was not totally disappointed but I wasn't impressed either. I guess I'll never forgot what this place used to be back in the day. However I will give Buddy's a second shot. I think the poboys may be better and may have more of a bang for the buck as the poboys are less expensive than the ten bucks I paid for today's lunch. I hope I'm correct. I will say the latest owner is very friendly, kinda cute too :) and the little place is really sparkly clean.. That's always a plus! I think I'll stick with my "mama's" red beans. Lesson learned! One of my favorites!! Roast beef Poboy to die for! Yummy seafood plates and Poboys!! Absolutely THE BEST FRIED CHICKEN anywhere. Fried to order, but definitely worth the wait. A sad day, ordered here today, the roast beef po boy has gotten so small, you could eat 3, maybe they're trying to stick it to the tourists for Jazz Fest. I love the grilled chicken salad which has a charbroiled flavor. Also, the chicken salad stuffed tomato is really good. Everything is made in house there. My grandma loves the special red beans on Mondays and the white beans too. My mom likes the fried chicken loaf (half a fried chicken with garlic bread).
