Deeeeeelicious!!! Second time here and it's just as good as the first time. We got two king size shrimp and oyster po boys ordered online. The oysters are sooooo huge and shrimp were plentiful. The taste was definitely on point, somebody in that kitchen understood the seasoning assignment. I love that they have a wide variety of food selections and they appear to be more of a homestyle preparation as opposed to inconsistent fast food junk. Service was exceptional and pleasant and I tried the drive thru but it's a tight squeeze for a Toyota Sequoia. You certainly can't speed thru there or you'd end up in the wall next door. Overall, I will return to try something new but when something is so good, I hate to deviate to something else lol. read more

Today, we made our second visit on our summer goal to finding different poboy spots around the New Orleans area. We have driven past Short Stop many times but never thought about eating here. You order at the counter, and your sandwiches are made by the person who takes your order. Then you visit the cashier to pay for your sandwiches and drinks. First of all, I have tried coleslaw all over this city. Their version is delicious. It has a nice crunch as the cabbage is not swimming in dressing. We each got a 6 inch seafood poboy dressed, one oyster and one shrimp and shared them both. Their prices were very reasonable. The bread has a nice crunch. Both had seafood that was perfectly fried and tasty, but the oyster may have had a slight edge. We would definitely visit again to try other sandwiches. read more

I'm sorry maybe I had too high expectations but this place is overrated. They've been there forever. Everybody seems to love them, but let me tell you what the french fries were all none of them were crispy, but they were nice and hot. The roast beef pro boy was quite small compared to other places the roast beef was good but not very well seasoned it needed a lot of salt. I even added Louisiana hot sauce, and there was no gravy to speak of just a wet bottom of the Poboy bread. I don't ever have a need to come back here. Being a local I have eaten a ton of poboys over many decades. I can't believe I have never been to Short Stop by yes I finally went. So you walk in and there are a few workers behind the counter. Each worker takes your order then makes it themselves (no dedicated order takers and kitchen staff). The menu is vast for a poboy shop. Too many poboys to choose from! I picked the BBQ Roast Beef and it was amazing! Such tender meat and full of flavor. The bread was perfect too. Busy during lunch time and the line can be out the door but moves pretty quick. Parking can also be difficult when it is busy but overall cars cycle out pretty quickly. read more

I have often found when visiting a city with an iconic food item, i try to seek out not so much where the tourists go, but rather where the locals go. Short Stop Po' Boys was recommended to me by a client, so I headed over that way after my last meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. Pulling into the driveway, I was buoyed by the confidence that this was going to be a wonderful meal. Fotst off to inspire this confidence was that there was no pretense or tourist trapping vibe to this place. It was a rather humble establishment and I usually find that the best food awaits us in these humble little mom-and-pop type hole-in-the-wall type establishments. Another giveaway was that the parking lot was filled with cars. Walking in, ot was definitely a no-frills type place. You order at one counter and pay at another. You pick your food up when they call your name. I ordered a crawfish po' boy, gumbo and onion rings and I have to say that I was blown away by how good the food was. Customer Service- I understand being busy. I understand needing to step away, but a little communication and respect goes a long way. I arrive to pick up my phone order today 2/23 at noon and after waiting in line the cashier puts up a closed sign and walks to the bathroom. The least she could have said was she's going to catch you over here. Don't just leave me at the counter ignoring my presence. Three of us visited the Short Stop Poboys for the first time. The smoked sausage poboy was terrible, no taste to the sausage. Didn't eat the sandwich. Also, the hamburger on bun and cheeseburger on bun that we ordered were not very good. The meat did not have a good taste and the bun came apart as soon as we started to eat it. Coleslaw was bland. I've been down here for 18 years and only in the last year did a local mention this place. I absolutely LOVE Poboys and this by far is my fav. Sauce I've come down ppl have talked about the roast beef poboys in LA but any I had were basically just a roast beef on a sub bun.... Till I tried short stop. To say it's unbelievable would be doing it a disservice. They shred the roast beef and their seasonings are unbelievable. An absolute must for anybody stopping by. They have a sign that says if more than 10 people are in line, you need to wait outside to avoid forming a line down the aisle. A bunch of people got mad when the worker informed of this so they left and we didn't have to go outside lol. The food is solid and I think it's always busy. Food was amazing, portions were huge and priced well, facilities were clean, and best of all the staff were super nice and friendly. What more could you want? I was traveling and my husband asked me to get him a poboy from here to bring to him. I placed the order and asked the staff to wrap it up securely as it's getting shoved in my backpack for a flight. Welll I was very surprised when I get this comically large sandwich that would not fit in my backpack. I had to use the extender zipper on my suitcase just to have space for it. This is probably my favorite sandwich shop in the whole world. The sandwich menu is huge. Hot and cold po boys along with a big selection of seafood po boys. The roast beef po boy is out of this world. Get it dressed and thank me later. They offer great sides like gumbo and jambalaya. All delicious. They also have a wide offering of local chips and desserts and glass bottled Barq's root beer which is smashing. You order from a counter and the workers behind the counter are super friendly and fast even though the sandwiches are made to order and served wrapped in blank newspaper. The restaurant itself is an old school dinner sort of set up with booths. The walls are covered with Short Stop memorabilia from the shops long history. It's exactly what you imagine a NOLA po boy shop would look like but in a completely authentic way since the restaurant has been around for 60+ years. Just a fantastic place. To begin with I ordered a king size shrimp po-boy last week , when I got home the po-boy had 100 ct. shrimp . For those that do not know 100 ct . means 100 shrimp pr pound ( small brown shrimp to say the least ) . The brown shrimp season closes in late June when white shrimp season opens in-shore . white shrimp season is open year round off shore . I used to live very close and would get poboys all the time ,now I'm in franklinton and took the ride to get a poboy again and was so disappointed. Bread was stale ,shrimp not good and my son got roast beef ,he said not that good, fries and onion rings ,well ate few then threw it away. $50.00 wasted on that food .won't go back . Stopped by for a second time and of course wanted to try something different from the first time. Regular (9") roast beef poboy, with a small fry for less than $12. You cannot beat that. The roast is shredded into very small pieces, with good flavor. The gravy isn't exactly watery/thin, but not as thick as I would normally have a roast beef at home. The fries are still super good, they are just like McDonald's fries but better. They serve your food very fast as well. Stopped in at 5 pm and it was a little busy, we were in the car at 5:29 after eating and everything, that's how fast they are. Very good prices and especially good food. I got the roast beef, shrimp, and oyster poboys, dressed. I found them unremarkable. Roast beef was debris, somewhat bland. Shrimp was very lightly battered. Bread was fine but not Leidenheimer or Riesling's as far as I can tell. Gobs of mayo. Folks were nice, lots of seating. The checkout system for takeout here simply sucks, unfortunately. You can't pay for your poboy before you get it while you're waiting around for ten minutes to get your poboy. They're serious about it too, I stood in line and got shoo'd when I showed up. (Extra confusing because the lady in front of me paid with only half her order in hand.) Instead you have to wait around for ten minutes letting your piping hot poboy cool in your arms to pay. What's the deal? They're afraid they ain't gonna make it or what? This fundamental misunderstanding of what people want out of a pickup poboy joint will keep me from coming back. read more
