We had an employee departure party at Buddy's and bought the all you can eat deal for $14 per person. We had super nice anti pasta salad, a few different 2 topping pizzas (toppings were limited by the deal rules), and sodas - Everything tasted great and service was good as well with plenty of refills as needed. Our group called ahead and we were seated in an out of the way cubby area that was perfect for 12 people. Everything was delightful - we especially liked that the tip was already included in the price. You need 12 people to get the all you can eat deal, but I highly recommend it if you are coming with a group. I will be back! read more

I am sincerely surprised I haven't reviewed Buddy's yet! I've been eating here for as long as I can remember. High school dinners out with friends (I was going to say buddies--HEYO), college nights with beers and a pies, and more. So yes, I have a very sentimental attachment to this place. Luckily the pizza is delicious so it keeps me coming back regardless of nostalgia. First off the joint is really spacious and clean and I LOVE that patio. A nice summer night out there? Perfect. The staff has always been really friendly here and I love the little batch of dum dum suckers as you walk out. If you're looking for me you'll probably find me digging through there looking for a cream soda! They have a pretty extensive menu including sandwiches, tasty salads, appetizers, and then their awesome pizza. They've got basic toppings (pepperoni, sausage, plain cheese, etc) so you can make your own. They also have pre-designed pies that vary from traditional (margarita, veggie, BBQ chicken) but they've also rolled out some new varieties in honor of local landmarks that have more inventive toppings (like the Great Lakes collection which boasts toppings like pine nuts, spinach and artichokes, and more). They also have low fat and gluten free options to boot! Love the crust and the crunchy corners! I usually pass on crusts but I'll eat these all up they're so good. Also cool? Dammit I haven't been here in a long time. I came here after a day at the Henry Ford Museum with my date and his kids, and let me tell you, I had some kind of flashback. I didn't realize I had been here before in 2006 and it took me a minute to remember coming here. For starters, this place is on Michigan Avenue in a really cute part of Dearborn, and while it's not my go to Buddy's location, it still rocks the house. We came here on a Saturday afternoon absolutely famished, and we walked out stuffed, happy and feeling like we could continue on with life after ingesting such goodness. In one sense, this place is clean and nice, and resembles a lot of the other Buddy's that I have been to over the years. Great menu selection, friendly staff and a great bar area when you walk in. We went with a greek salad, a pizza, and one of the kids ended up getting cheese ravioli. His ravioli looked delicious and he said he loved it. High 5 for that! Halfway through the meal I finally looked around and that's when I had my moment of flashback. I looked over the booth at the windows, and realized the last time I was here was in August of 2006 during my first visit home from Arizona. I sat near the window with an ex boyfriend, hashing out the details of why we broke up. I hadn't seen him in several years, and it was kind of an overdue conversation that we both needed to have. I remember like it was yesterday, and it must have shown on my face. Having to rehash the past, and talk about things gone by. I remember where I was at that point in life and wonder how things have changed since then. (both for the good and bad.) It was really reflective and nice to come here and reminisce. The server did a really good job, and we were happy overall. Food was good, and we sat and talked for a good long time about the fun we had just had walking through a museum that is a slice in history. Kind of like this Buddy's. A slice in history.... Anyways, I always seem to have good luck in this part of town, except with the parking situation here. What's with that? The parking lot here is tight and small, and more then likely your going to have to park in front of a meter, or worse yet, on the street in front of a meter. I don't blame buddy's for this, but I can imagine if I lived on this side of town, it would really impact my decision to come to this location or not due to the ease of getting in and out. Especially in the wintertime. Who wants to circle and park while having AND walk in the cold? eeehhh maybe not. Overall I would gladly return to this location in the future. I went to the airport to retrieve some family members from a trip to Disney in Florida. By the time they arrived at Detroit Metro, they were hungry. Well, I knew of a few places in Dearborn that were on the way home, so we cruised Michigan Avenue, looking for one particular restaurant. Someone spied Buddy's, and remembering the original Buddy's that I used to visit years ago, I immediately turned around and found parking in the lot out back. After feeding the parking meter, it was time to feed our faces. Our server was Corey H. She did a great job of taking care of us while we dined. Our drinks arrived quickly, allowing us to peruse the menu while sipping on refreshments. We had enough people in our party to order 2 pizzas, taking spare slices home for future dining. We ordered a breaded and fried cauliflower-zucchini-mushroom appetizer, appropriately named the Veggie Sampler. The little guy ordered a Kid Mostaccioli and chocolate milk. After ordering a 4 square Meat Deluxe and an 8 square Detroiter, the appetizer arrived and we sampled favorite pieces. Shortly thereafter, the pizzas were delivered. Everything was delicious, and yes, we took some pizza home. I made a trip to the restroom, and noticed the dining room was filled with tables of families, kids included. After mentioning that we were on a bit of a tight schedule, our server kicked it up and prioritized our order in the kitchen to meet our timeline. Now that's service! Buddy's, a 70-year old Detroit institution, started out as a Blind Pig in the '30s and added a tomato pie cut into squares for the first time in 1946. The original location, still operating at "Six & Conant", is now a very rough part of Detroit's 'hood. For you non-Detroiters, "Six" is Six Mile Road (2 miles closer in to Detroit than rapper Eminem made famous in "Eight Mile"). Buddy's has since expanded to several suburban venues offering the area's best pies to the rest of Southeastern Michigan. I'm so excited I finally came here to try the pizza, but bummed that it took me so long! I've had Jet's numerous times for school functions, but Buddy's does an awesome take on Detroit square pizza! I had some family in town and decided to swing by this location, and am so glad I did -- this pizza is exceptional because their crust is crispy, thick and baked in a pan, but not greasy or oily! I've had Detroit square pizza that acts as a sponge and absorbs the oil from the pan, but Buddy's serves a great thick, crispy crust that doesn't require numerous napkins to keep your fingers clean. The toppings are really fresh as well. I also love all the different signature pizzas they have created and named after Detroit landmarks and icons. *Disclosure: went here during a blogger trip recently. I've been to Buddy's in Farmington Hills and also the takeout location in Royal Oak, but this location was cheery and welcoming - I liked it a lot. It seemed a bit more updated than the FH location, as well. We ordered a round of Buddy bread for the table, which was good, and then I ordered the Lake Superior pizza, which has pepperoni and other toppings. Another blogger friend ordered the Lake Huron and they served it to me - I didn't really care for the cheese blend, but then another waiter straightened it out and I got mine, which I liked. Next time I'd say hold the pine nuts, though, as it gave it kind of a nutty taste. I also split a cream puff for dessert with another blogger, and it was DELICIOUS. She was Canadian and had never had a cream puff before, and she enjoyed it as well. I'd recommend this location - good food and service. read more

After a flight up to Detroit from Charlotte I was ravenous! So obviously I hopped on Yelp and looked for some delicious noms and Buddy's had some great reviews. The restaurant itself had a relaxed, cool vibe and the staff was friendly. We ordered some mozzarella sticks to start and they were perfectly cooked. They were so good I forgot to take a picture before we scarfed them down. But definitely try them if you're wanting an appetizer before your meal. After about ten arduous minutes of 'which pizza do I get', we settled on the Detroiter. Best choice I've ever made in my life...or maybe that's the hunger talking. But it was SO good. The cheese blend and spices they use are anything but bland. The pepperoni are small and bite sized. The crust was literally the perfect crust. Crispy and not thin or thick but perfect with a slight 'deep dish' feel. But the mega-win factor was the tomato basil sauce drizzled on top. Talk about flavor! Buddy's is easily in the top 5 for best pizza that I've had, and definitely the best pizza in Michigan. It's kind of like pizza hut pan pizza, but more awesome. The crust is crunchy and delicious, the cheese is chewy, and the sauce is sometimes the star. It's more tomato-y than most pizza sauces, which tastes more handmade. The Buddy bread is also delicious, basically just strips of baked pizza dough with garlic and parmesan. They come with sauce and ranch, which is a beautiful combination. It can get really busy at times and obviously it's a pizza place so loud kids are everywhere. But the pizza is worth it. Grab a dum dum on the way out as well. read more

Buddy's started as a "hole in the wall" pizza place with a bar in a working class section of Detroit. Over the years, that section of Detroit unfortunately followed a lot of the rest of Detroit and sunk into poverty. Buddy's expanded to other locations - and the one in Dearborn is closest to where I grew up. Even when they were in a shaky neighborhood - people would come from miles around. The neighborhood now is strong. The deep dish pizza is the only way to go. That's what Buddy's is known for. Perfectly crisp crust; cooked through and through. Cheese on top melted thoroughly, but not burnt. I don't live in the Detroit area now - but nearly every time I go back to visit - I'll stop at Buddy's. There's no place like it in Detroit. And, heck, I live in the Chicago area (known for deep dish pizza) and Buddy's would be unique here. We came here for lunch with a big party. They were very accommodating. They have s good lunch deal for $13 per person for two topping pizza and soda. You could pick any two toppings. We ended up with some interesting choices like pineapple and jalapeño, onion and green bell pepper, chicken and jalapeño and buddy's original. My wife, a native of the Detroit area, was insisting that I try Buddy's Restaurant should we ever get the opportunity to do so. So, when family matters necessitated her return to Michigan (with myself in tow), the opportunity presented itself. Needless to say, the wife has good taste. Buddy's was a huge hit. Everyone else in the area must've thought the same thing too - because this place was crowded. The restaurant was beaming with Detroit pride - Red Wings, Lions, Tigers, Pistons... it was all represented on the walls of this establishment. Our waitress was very friendly and prompt with our food orders. We started with the fried ravioli. Very tasty. The Detroiter pizza was amazing too - cheese, pepperoni, tomato basil sauce, shaved parmesan, and a Sicilian spice blend. This was definitely one of the better pizzas I've eaten in my life. Oh, and the dessert - a hot fudge crème puff (made with Sanders Fudge)... well, I suppose that speaks for itself, really. Delicious. My wife and I visited this Buddy's tonight for the first time in 6 months. The food and service have definitely declined since our last visit! First, even though the restaurant was fairly empty, they tried to seat us at one of the 8 seater tables in the middle of everyone because the 5 or 6 booths had not been cleared. We asked to wait for a booth. Out server Erica promptly took our order and brought our rolls and soup and drinks. My wife ordered very light sauce on her pizza, but when it was brought out it looked as if the cook had painted it with sauce! 20 minutes later we were told that my wife's properly cooked pizza was the next one up? I love Buddy's pizza. I wish they'd open one in Houston so I don't have to smuggle pizza back in my carryon, but I always enjoy some "Detroit style" pizza when I come home. If you live in the area and haven't been to Buddy's yet, go! Be ready, it's not a 5 dollar hot and ready price, but the perfect buttery crisp of the crust, the excellent quality dough, and the fun toppings and specialty pizzas (pine nuts are an amazing pizza topping...who knew?) ...worth the price. There is often a wait if you go in the evening, but it's worth it. The place is casual and delicious, and they serve drinks too.
