I've been on the hunt for a good gluten-free pizza ever since being diagnosed with a gluten intolerance. I've been to Buddy's Pizza many times before but never realized they offered a gluten-free option. The gluten-free pizza only comes in a small personal pan size, so you get about 4 to 6 slices (depending how you cut it). It was a little over $20, which is a little pricey, but absolutely worth it. The flavor, texture, and overall quality made it one of the best gluten-free pizzas I've had so far. The atmosphere is your typical casual lunch spot. The service was good. They also had several weekly specials, unfortunately none applied to the gluten-free pizza. But overall, for the taste and quality, Buddy's is a solid go-to for gluten-free pizza. We had a packed house with various orders of the original Detroit-Style pizza. Some of us dined in and ordered takeout too to make sure our family at home could partake in the delicious 4-square pizza. They have four options of crust - original, thin, multi grain and even gluten free. I'm an original crust kind of girl! They have additional options to order salads, chicken and kid offerings. Wow!!! This is the best Buddy's. I came here tonight and had Julia as a waitress! She was so friendly and nice. I told her I had a birthday reward and asked to upgrade to an 8 square pizza. We also ordered minestrone soup and buddy bread to start!! This bread is better than the bread at other buddy's locations. I stopped going to the Shelby location because the salad was skimpy on toppings and the pizza was hit-or-miss. Had bad experience with a manager at the Warren location a few years ago (for some reason yelling at my 80 year old father was reasonable - and then giving me a hard time for complaining about it was okay with her). She appears to be gone. The last order from Warren's Buddy's was decent (still a little skimpy on toppings). But, the order yesterday?!? The picture of the pizza shows the worst of it. I opened the bag with the salad - poorly topped. A handful of salami, a sparse smattering of smaller cut cheese and no ham (ok, one piece). Had that been it - I probably would've just said - "ok, Buddy's just doesn't do salads anymore." But, then I opened the pizza box.... My regular pepperoni and old world pepperoni was a joke. How does a restaurant like Buddy's let this leave the kitchen? We pay a premium for what is supposed to be the best Detroit Style Pizza, the legendary Buddy's. Some slices of the pizza were missing toppings completely - and the entire thing was cooked poorly. Again: it should have left the kitchen, this is an embarrassment to what Buddy's Pizza should be. I decided to get a 4 Square of the Spicy Italian and easily polished off the entire pie in minutes. I wouldn't say that it was very spicy, but it was definitely very flavorful and cheesy. Our waiter was also super sweet and on top of it--I swear my water cup was never less than halfway filled which I really appreciated. My fiancé did think his pie was a bit too salty for his liking, but still enjoyed it overall. Your typical Buddy's. I had the free birthday pizza coupon (join the e-club to get it, it's worth $9.99) and also a gift card, so we came here tonight before seeing a movie. They quoted us a 20-minute wait and it ended up being about 30-35 minutes. We ordered a 4-square pizza with pepperoni - the birthday coupon is for a 4-square cheese pizza, so it's a $1 upcharge for a 1-topping, and you can also upgrade to an 8-square if you like. The pizza is always delicious at Buddy's. We also got the veggie sampler, which was pretty good - it comes with fried mushrooms, zucchini, and cauliflower. My boyfriend had the Buddy's specialty beer (made by Griffin Claw, actually) and I had a root beer, as well. We asked the waitress for waters at the beginning of the meal and never received them ... I then asked whom appeared to be a manager and still never received them ... and I asked our waitress one more time, and finally got waters near the end of the meal. Because of that and the wait time, I give this Buddy's 3 stars out of 5; however, I'd still return for a meal, because this is the closest sit-down Buddy's in my area. I've officially had all types of pizza; thin crust, Chicago style, New York, and all of the weird shit that California pizzerias offer. I have to say, Detroit style pizza is my new favorite. Detroit style is primarily in a square shape, cooked in a pan, and has a crispy/chewy crust from all of the tasty cheese. My trip to the original Buddy's pizza had me sampling The Detroiter, the Greek and the Motown Museum. All of these were fantastically flavorful and if this is your first time, do yourself a favor and order a few different styles. Most of the pies we tried this time were very meat heavy, so the Greek pizza was a nice break. It's loaded with spinach, Onion, Garlic, tomato and a lot of Dill. The dill was a thrill! But you can't go wrong with meat and bacon... shout out to the Motown Museum pie! You can order pizza in 4 or 8 squares pies. Just order four, fours! This is the original Buddy's and has been around for 70-Years! The parking is easy here and the there's even a bocci ball court that is used in the summer. This location still kills it and now Buddy's is my new must stop when in the Motor City. read more

She got our drinks and food to us in a timely manner. The best thing about Buddy's is of course the pizza and how reasonably priced the food is in general. Since you don't come to a pizza place for the salad I ordered the four slice pizza. I got a two topping pizza, sausage and pepperoni, and that was beyond enough. One of my co-worker's ordered the half sized pasta dish and it came with a side salad and breadsticks. I was impressed by the amount of food she got. When my pizza came it was a nice size. I could only eat half of the pizza which meant I got a second lunch! Buddy's is much different than the pizza I typically have in Chicago. For some reason they dizzle a line of tomato sauce on top of the pizza instead of under the toppings. It was interesting and helped to keep the pizza from being really messy. The only downfall was that it was kind of dry so I had to order a side of the pizza sauce to make it a little more saucy. I enjoyed my time at Buddy's! Carry out is really easy, although most of the time you end up waiting outside due to the small interior area.
