Hi budget, I rented a van 30 days in advanced for July 10th 2025. I called three times to confirm that it would be at the Norfolk, VA airport at 3:00pm, each time your customer service verifying it would be there. I explained it was important because I had three handicap children that needed the room and could not wait long. We waited 4 hours. While you laughed and stated we tell people that all the time, people would not rent from us if we told them the truth. My children ended up in the hospital the first two days of our trip. Customer Service is absolutely non-existent here! I was returning a moving truck on the Tuesday after Memorial Day and I get that Memorial Day is a busy wknd, but when you are already in a tiny strip mall with VERY limited parking and absolutely NO signage directing people where to park their 12'ft moving trucks, yes, I am going to pull in front of the store front and have you figure it out. From the minute I pulled up, Leslie gave me nothing but attitude! Seriously, I could not believe she talked to me the way she did, but she sure did not like it when I dished it right back. Guess someone needed to remind her I'm the customer? In any case, she walked out snapping her fingers and yelling that I couldn't park the truck there. I'm like "ok, then where do you want me to park it?" "Find an open spot!" "WHERE!?" There were literally no open spots except at the far end of the lot and I wasn't even sure I could park there because it would block in anyone trying to drive through, but I went and parked the hotmess of a truck Budget had rented me in the only space I could safely maneuver it! So, then I go inside and Leslie is with another patron...OMG, night and day! I guess I was just to white-looking to be treated with any sort of decorum? Because the guest she was helping was African-American and she was just as nice as could be! Joke is on her I suppose because I am actually a double-minority...but that aside, race should never have ANYTHING to do with how a customer is treated! That being said, after she bitched at me for parking the truck where I did (she had expected me to park it in a very tight spot between two other trucks!?) and having this young guy go out and get the fuel and mileage (even though I had taken a pic of the gauges) and then bitched about having him move the truck for me. Excuse me? But, since when did returning a truck require me to park it for you too? Then, the real fun started! She told me I needed my contract because her system was down and she couldn't return the truck without it. So, because her system wasn't working she couldn't return my truck...what!?! She then nastily tells me that I can just leave it if I just don't want a receipt. Right, like I am gonna trust her at this point to just "return my truck" w/o a receipt! So I tell her to give me back the keys so I can drive back home to get the paperwork. She asks me why, and I straight up tell her that if she isn't returning the truck I'll be damned if I'm gonna leave her the keys because technically the truck is still in my "possession". So she begrudgingly gives me the keys and I come back 15mins later w/the paperwork and guess what...the system was somehow up between me leaving and returning because she was able to print out some paperwork for some construction workers that she was having a very lewd convo with. All she offers me is that she can sign the bottom of the paperwork w/the time that I originally returned it (about half an hour beforehand), like she was doing me a big favor or something. Needless to say, I have reported her to Budget via their website and will actually never rent from Budget truck again if these are the type of people they have representing their brand and delivering this joke of what passes for customer service for them. This location deserves ZERO stars! First the location did NOT have the vehicle. Had to go to the airport location several days later to get the PREPAID vehicle that was needed. Then upon returning the vehicle and leaving the facility we were called and told there would be a $250 fee for pet hair. There were NEVER pets in the car. We do have pets. It is also possible others that rode in the vehicle have pets at home. What was found was possibly transferred from clothing. We drove back and viewed said pet hair. We did not vacuum the vehicle at all and were then accused of trying to vacuum around the dirt to leave the pet hair. It might not even be pet hair. It could be human hair of someone with short white/gray hair. We were then informed, "Oh, it might not be a $250 charge. It is up to $250." He would never say an amount because it would depend on the work involved. That location is a sham and I would attach the photos to this review if I could. read more

It was horrible dealing with them. I was in the Uber rental program. I had several issues and have yet to speak to the manager to resolve my issues. I was told by one of the employees he didn't know when the manager would be in. Left messages for her to call me never returned my call, I even came in person never heard from her. If zero star was an option, this Budget location wouldn't even qualify for that. Please do yourself a favor and spend a few extra dollars or drive a few extra miles to rent from another brand. My reservation was for a standard vehicle for a week, and was told that the only thing available was a van, despite the fact that I'm not really comfortable driving a large car, I took it, not that I had much choice. I was assured that the same rate would apply and that I could check back in a day or two and switch my van for a sedan, it was a nice gesture, but I wouldn't need to go out of my way to exchange the van for the correct car if my reservation was handled properly the first time. I was done with the vehicle early, so I returned it a day early, upon my arrival, I was told by the agent to "get the miles off your car for me?" (translation: I'm not going to look at your car before I process your final documents) Upon reviewing the paperwork, the final amount was $70 more than what I was supposed to be charged!! "Well there's nothing I can do on my end, you must call the 800 number." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!! Where's the customer service? What a shame that Budget allows someone like "Lurrrr" (He would not clearly provide his name to me and no name badge) I'm guessing he does this to a lot of people, so why get written up by wearing a name tag? After sitting in front of him and calling the 800 number as instructed, I was informed that I was charged for gas, SEVENTY DOLLARS worth, but I returned the van with a FULL TANK! If "Lurrrr" would have entered the information correctly, and gave every client their time, this would have not happened. 5 minutes of his time to do things right the first time, would have saved me 30 minutes on the phone with the 800 number and this review! I was told by the phone agent that he would resolve this issue and he asked "Lurrr" for his name and employee number, to which "Lurrr" muffled his name twice and then told the phone agent that he was not comfortable giving him his name and blamed the entire ordeal on the COMPUTER! Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't YOU have to manually enter the final miles and fuel before closing a ticket out? In summary, this is a total of about an hour of my life wasted, simply because this Budget location is a disgrace to the brand and franchisees should be carefully vetted prior to allowing under qualified people into the company to represent and now destroy the brand and confidence in Budget Rental for clients like me. Yeah, walk away. For a few days, reservation has been made. Got here at 130, no car. He states that the previous driver decided to keep it longer. Asked if I wanted to upgrade. I declined, then he said he would see what he could do. This place is horrible. When I i Italy walked in nobody was at service desk and I practically had to walk to back to get him. I do not usually post about businesses, however this experience was upsetting to me. I arrived to rent my car, the rep was alone, it took her a while to get me taken care of. She had to perform admin duty, then she vaccummed and washed the car. Crazy right! Where was her help? I returned as planned and this time another rep checked my mileage then told me I needed to vacuum the car! Why I responded, she stated I left potato chips on the floor. First of all I stated, I don't eat chips, I am on a Keto diet. She stated if I did not vaccumm the car I could be charged a cleaning fee. I went back to the car and looked around, no chips! I bent down looked under the seats, whalla, 2 small chips no bigger than my thumb nail! I took the car and vaccummed it, steaming mad! I told that lady I have never in 25 years of renting was I required to vaccumm a car! This made me late for a client I had scheduled after my drop off time. We rented a car for the weekend, returned it on time with a full tank of gas. When we received the email receipt, there was a charge of $9 for 8 tenths of a gallon of gas. The say there were 16.1 gallons when rented the car and 15.3 when returned. Really? We'll never rent from budget again. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM THESE GUYS! I reserved a 12-foot moving truck for 10:00A on June 10, 2019. I got there at 10:30 that morning because I missed their tiny sign on a panel of several signs. I was told they didn't have any trucks! Their explanation was "there aren't any trucks in Charlotte, it's a busy moving season." That's not an explanation. That's a lousy excuse for not holding up their side of the deal. The black lady and tall white man who worked this Avis/Budget shop were not apologetic about their not having a truck despite the fact that I reserved it 12 DAYS IN ADVANCE! They were nonchalant about their mistake and gave me the national number to call instead of addressing their lack of responsibility themselves and calling them. Charlotte is the biggest city in North Carolina. How do they not have a truck that I reserved 12 DAYS IN ADVANCE and have a terrible attitude about it? When I finally reached customer service, they told me some inventory manager was going to call me back in 2 hours. Over 7 hours later as I typed the original review for FB, of course they never called. I've always had good service from Budget, but today's incident threw all that out the door. A couple who was waiting for a large SUV when I got there got a mid-size one right at closing. He told me that this was the second time this had happened to them. This skeezy location couldn't provide a shred of proof for why they charged me $100 for refueling a fully fueled vehicle. I spent a few weeks trying to ask them to fix the problem, and never once received a promised call back. I finally had to dispute it with my credit card company. Seven weeks after contacting this branch, I got my money back. Not because they found out they were wrong, but because they are so unorganized and/or incompetent (if they aren't running a scam) that they charge random people money and can't tell when that charge is fraudulent even two months later. read more

I reserved a truck from here to move across town. I showed up and was not greeted, just stared at. Ok. So I tell her about my reservation and she starts calling another budget to see if they have a truck for me. They do not. She then tells me it was damaged last night and I can drive up to concord if I want one. What? Couldn't you have called in the morning to let me know you were not going to have one? This Budget location Is a joke! They made my move harder than it should be due to the fact that they lose documents and keep passing the ball to another person to get you out their hair. Each person that I was directed to was worst than the one before. First off, Let me list the constant issue I had with upper management. 1.They will tell you anything to get off the phone 2. I question their knowledge of their own policies 3. They lack the communication that customer service should possess. 4. They will not refund you if they make an error. 4. What a horrendous experience. I think the management has changed since the last time I rented here. It was a little sketchy last time, but this latest experience was so bad. I arrive for a SUV pickup and the guy is sending what seems like a buddy of his out the door to his car and the customer is on his way with a smile on his face. Then he helps another customer. That person is on his way. I am noticing there is no walk around to see if the cars have any damage. Ok, well, then another lady shows up and she is a little angry. She says she was here at noon and they did not have the passenger van she reserved so that is why she is back at 5pm because the guy behind the counter said he would get her the vehicle she was promised. And he has it now. She and her family signed the paperwork and went out the door. Next turn is my turn. I ask for the SUV I reserved like 3 months ago and he says he doesn't have any. I ask what does he have and he hands me 2 sets of keys and to go check out cars he has in the parking lot. I don't want a car, I want the SUV I reserved. "Sorry sir, I only have what fleet services sends me." One car is a Charger and the other a Camry. We need the SUV for the space for our trip. He says, "then you're gonna love the Charger." What about a van or another size SUV?, "I just rented the one van I had to that lady there." I ask him to contact another location to see if they can fill the reservation. He says he will call the Budget up the road and then proceeds to help another person that walked in. After a few minutes, he says he tried calling them but no one answered and if I wanted the Charger. I said no and right after that, the lady who rented the van comes back in and says there apparently is a large crack in the windshield. He apologizes and tells her she needs to go to the airport to exchange the vehicle. Obviously she is super upset and arguments break out. I had seen enough. I step outside and got on my cell and call the location up the street myself that is located at 4430 E Independence Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28205. They answer right away and tell me they can transfer the reservation. Only thing is they don't have the SUV size I am looking for. For a few extra dollars a day, I can get a bigger SUV. This seems promising. I head right there. Completely different experience. The manager, Tonia, is awesome. She is warm, friendly and understanding and minutes after my arrival she walks us around a SUV and seems worth it for the extra money, plus I am now in a pinch because we have to leave the next day on our trip. It took probably an hour after arriving to leave with the keys but there were some customers ahead of me and they had to work harder to get the reservation transferred and the $ amounts to match. So, my advice, skip 6721 E Independence Blvd location and head like 4 minutes up the road to the 4430 E Independence Blvd office. My customer service experience was like night and day! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I booked a one-way truck from this location to Washington, DC. I arrived at my reserved time and was told that there were no trucks available. The antiquated computer system and printer were down. The woman at the desk was exceedingly unhelpful--simply told me to call their 800 number or other local Budget locations to try and find an available truck. After multiple phone calls to the 800 # and other local Budget locations, I rented a UHAUL. Three hours later, as I am driving the UHAUL, Budget through their 800 number calls me to say they have located a truck at another Charlotte location. I have been renting cars from Budget for the last 4 years after a bad experience with Enterprise. Macci and his staff are always courteous and make sure I'm satisfied. I reserve and pay in advance online. When I walk in the office, it only takes a few minutes to show ID and sign papers. I highly recommend this rental office. read more

With as many car rental options in the area, keep looking! This place is nothing but trouble. Any money you save by using this dealer is wasted in the time and frustration you will experience. Their customer service is slow and apathetic. They cannot explain "miscellaneous" charges. In addition, the car we got (a Toyota Camry) was filthy inside and out with trash on the floorboards, etc. When we mentioned this to the attendant, we replied, "Yeah." We have decided not to use Budget Car Rental ever again. Their low standards of service are not worth the time or money. I have never been so appalled by a company. When I approached the employee at the desk to rent the car he was on his cell phone and he asked me if it was ok if he spoke to his cousin who was in prison while he was helping me. He said that he never gets to speak with his cousin very often. I should of left. I rented the car for a week but needed another week while my personal vehicle was still getting repaired. I called to extend the rental for an extra week, they charged me for the extra week and then they sent me a letter the next day saying that the car had not been returned and I must return the car or late charges would be added to the car. They added an extra $636.00 for late charges and $60.00 for sending out the letter. They also added insurance to my rental agreement for $90.00 without telling me after I showed them my full coverage insurance from Geico. I finally got some of the bogus charges removed but I will never rent from them again. read more

WARNING!!! We rented a car from this place for a three day rental a couple weeks ago due to a breakdown. Well it turns out we only needed the rental for two of those days and got there early (when they opened that morning) to return the vehicle. I was in the parking lot at 8 AM sharp, watched the employee pull in a few minutes late around 8:05. This guy was driving a Lexus SUV and I watched him pull right up to the door, get out and unlock the door. I walked in right behind him to turn in the keys. This guy takes the keys and just says "you're good" - nothing to sign, no receipt or anything. Guess I should've known better; because he didn't check in the keys until 10:45 or thereabouts, so no credit for us. So of course I call that place up with a rather unhappy tone of voice (after my wife already called) and get told "Hey sir - no need to get an attitude with me!" Really now? So I guess if I were to head down there and snatch $75 out of your wallet, I can just tell you the same thing. Of course he just passes the hot potato off to some 1-800 customer disservice number where I explain the exact same story to a rep there, gave all the details of my experience, asked if I was supposed to get some kind of turn in paperwork or sign something (he didn't really answer that question); but he did say I would receive my credit for the early turn in. Of course it never came, so here I am to make sure everyone out there knows what kind of business they run there. It's too bad that this is how so many businesses choose to conduct themselves these days, so hopefully you readers out there will make the smart decision to not support these kind of actions and head on over to one of the half dozen rental companies that are pretty much within shouting distance of this place.
