I'm President's circle with Hertz and typically rent from airport locations. I booked a mid-size SUV from the East Independence location for 3 consecutive weeks and each time there were no vehicles available after driving 30 minutes to pickup. They don't even give courtesy phone calls to give you heads up if you've reserved in advance. The agent I just spoke to seemed young and unprofessional and he offered no apology or explanation why each week they tell me they'll let me know later in the day or the next day if a car is available. I am booking for work, this the reason for the scheduled rental. Now I have to argue to get my prepaid funds returned. This Hertz location is a bit of a joke in terms of quality and they operate like a local Mom&Pop playing by ear without corporate professionalism. read more

They do not call to tell you there is no car. They prefer that you show up to pick it up and then let you know there is no car. I even called customer service to be sure there is a car, since I was burned by Hertz before, and she checked the inventory and I was promised there was a car. When I got there, I walked in, and was told immediately "we are closed." That's how the greet you. When I explained I had to pick up a car, she said "no". There's a reason Hertz is rated a 1.7 overall out of 5...they suck that's why. I reserved a pickup for a move over a week in advance. They texted a reminder to me at 3:20pm the day before I was supposed to pick it up. I called to confirm and they said "oh yeah...we'll call you back." The manager calls back and said "we don't have a pickup for you tomorrow...its rented out." So basically, Hertz gave me less than 24 hours notice that they didn't have my pickup so I have no options but to postpone my move. Hertz is running a scam on rental vehicles. The attendant even said "I don't know why they let us rent vehicles we don't have." Hands down...the worst rental car experience Ive had. I dropped this rental off on a full tank of gas, not only was I charged a fuel surcharge, but they also did not return my full deposit. My garage door opener was left inside the car and I specifically told them where it was. I sent my dad to grab the opener, not even 12 hours after dropping it off and we were told that I needed to file a claim in order to get my garage door opener back. Hertz is using car accidents to make money. A deer ran into me while driving a Hertz car. My credit card paid out a portion of the bill and I was responsible for the remaining balance. Although Hertz is a publicly traded company, they want their customers to believe that they(customers) get better prices than Hertz. For the minor cosmetic damage that was done to the car, $99 worth of parts then billed 22 hours for labor. There is no way Hertz is price checking their vendors or they are purposely overcharging knowing people will just pay. Plus the administration fee. If Hertz has a insurance company or insurers itself why am I the one paying the adjuster to come out, view the car then take it to the body. My insurance treats me better. Lastly you claim that the deer damage caused $160 of depreciation that is an insufficient amount to lay on someone you want to stay a customer. They are the laziest people I've dealt with, and seem to have to have no problem putting people's lives in danger. Avoid at all cost! Disorganized and dishonest. A confirmation number is no guarantee you'll get your vehicle. Details below. I had a confirmed reservation for a standard sized SUV with this Hertz branch through Priceline. The model possibilities listed for a standard SUV were Cherokee, Escape, or RAV4. When we arrived, we were asked if we could be flexible. This was the first sign of trouble. I explained we were camping for our 20th wedding anniversary and that the standard SUV models all had the cargo space we needed. We were asked if a Kia Niro would work. Unfortunately, this compact SUV has only half the cargo space of the standard SUVs listed above. The Niro would never work. I asked about a GMC Yukon that was sitting on the lot. I figured if they didn't have my car, maybe they'd swap. I was told the Yukon was a full size SUV and that I would have to pay for an upgrade(!!!). I stated that I would rather have the standard SUV that I had confirmed, but I would accept the full size SUV as a substitute. Hertz was not open to this and continuously reminded me that I could always take the smaller Niro (and I guess only half of my family camping). I ended up leaving empty handed and angry.. Vendors in the travel industry typically find alternative arrangements or offer upgrades if they are unable to honor a confirmed booking. I have always done my car rentals with Enterprise but I seen I could save a few dollars with Hertz and it was a mistake. I didn't read the reviews but lived no more than 10 minutes away so that is why I choose it. When I arrived I noticed the parking lot is extremely small and they don't allow for overnight parking (no space and the other business complained about it). The manager allowed her to drop me off and pick me up only because I lived so close but this was an inconvenience especially if I had to use an Uber. I didn't want my car ticketed or towed when I got back from a funeral. I explained I only needed Comprehensive insurance without the collision because my credit card covered this. She was new so she didn't know how to help me pick the right one. I just ended up going with the most expensive which was about $27 a day. I didn't REALLY save money after all. The last day of my trip I noticed my tire was extremely low. I called my own roadside assistance with my insurance and the guy said there was a nail in the tire. I'm not sure if it was there before or during but I had to drive with a 6 year old in the middle of the night on the donut to get home and it took 9 1/2 hours. Another complaint I have is on the way back a few lights came on. The tire light, smart brake like kept malfunctioning, and engine. When I returned the car I let the rep know about the lights for the next driver and she didn't seem fazed. I started looking at other cars and their tires and how worn out they looked. They seem to collect money from renters and don't maintain their cars. If I didn't have the insurance with them and the nail was on the sides the company would have charged me for a discounted tire. Thank goodness I paid the $108 for the insurance I guess. Since I didn't have a Sun pass I was charged about 2 weeks later $20 for tolls and a $30 convenience fee for them. If you're with progressive, they cover the costs. that's fine. but then take out $300 out of your account. they'll say it'll cancel out and progressive will pay back any amount. when you ask for the invoice, they say they'll send the email but never do. and when you call to make sure it's the right email, of course they get it wrong. days go by and still no invoice. I literally just want to see what's all been charged and I cant even get that. plus, cars are garbage . had a Toyota Camry, and the whole car shakes at 65-70mph. They don't have cars in stock they bring them from other locations so you end up waiting around for an hour and a half to get a car that was reserved weeks ago. They did not care about the reason I needed the car and did not bother to call or email me prior to pick up time to inform me of this information. They waited for me to show up! I had no choice but to wait an hour. After waiting a couple of hours and no follow up call, I decided to call to check the status and informed they may have something the next day! My whole trip had to be cancelled and it could have been saved if Hertz staff would have given me an advance courteous call to inform me of no cars way before my mid day pick up time. They could have called or emailed me that morning to give me enough time to find another reservation. This was our second time dealing with this issue with this same Hertz location. Went to pick up my vehicle this AM that I had prepaid for over a month ago. I received a call late yesterday afternoon confirming everything so I assumed everything was ok. When I get there I was told they did not have a large SUV and they offered me a much smaller vehicle actually smaller than one I own. I had rented this for a trip so we could all travel together. I asked them to check around Charlotte to see if there is one available and there was one in Gastonia but I had to go get it myself which i didn't have the extra 2 hours round trip time today. When I asked what happened I was told that when they went to pick it up yesterday it was not available. Seems like any level of customer service would have been to call me and let me know that when they found out. I asked for the manager of the locations number and the lady that helped me called but his response according to her was "he doesn't talk to people on the weekend." I couldn't believe that was the manager's response so I asked her if that was exactly what he said and she confirmed it was. I just ended up cancelling but will know not to use them again. There is no hertz counter there, so I call the phone number listed on the reservation which is a dead number (strike number 2). The airport employee then calls another number that she has and speaks to a woman (I don't know her name) at the Independence branch of Hertz. She gets on the phone with me and says that they tried calling me but my phone number wasn't listed on my account (a lie - strike number 3), then insinuated that I made the reservation through some alternate booking site. I told her that I booked through my hertz account on their website (otherwise how would I have made the reservation using hertz points for the rental -duh?!?), and my phone number was in the system - that I took a screen shot of and emailed/hard copied mailed to Hertz. Then she accused me of supplying erroneous information since the Monroe airport is only for transit passengers flying in (which is not listed on Hertz.com, the rental reservation or anywhere else), and that I had to enter a flight number on the reservation for it to have accepted the reservation. You can CLEARLY see that no such data was put on my reservation... She then says that if I wanted to, I could drive 40 minutes in the opposite direction of where I needed to go to pick up a rental car at their branch, and oh - they don't have the type of car I reserved, days in advance. So clearly this employee was lying and had the audacity to accuse me of lying to cover her own incompetence. When I stated that I wished to speak to a manager, a gentleman came on the phone and basically said oh- you should call our regional manager. You clearly do not value my business as this situation was handled inappropriately from top to bottom. When I attempted to call the regional manager (Grant) at 770-508-7503, the number provided by the supervisor at the Independence Hertz Branch, I left a voicemail and to this day have not received a follow up or return phone call. Your 1-800 system, which I was bounced from 2 different agents saying they would get me a manager only to be returned to the automated base system after 35 minutes on hold is again, unacceptable. So as they say in baseball, 3 strikes and you're out. This incident has half a dozen lies, foul ups, and missed opportunities that strike against your credibility. read more

Reserved a cargo van at this location got a confirmation number only to find out when I need to go and pick it up the van is out of stock in the charlotte area for a few weeks. Rented it to do an antique show out of town, cost me a lot of money not to go because I selected to rent a van from Hertz. This location has given me the worst rental car experience ever. When I went to get the rental car the manager was the only one working on a Saturday. He was pleasant even though at the time of close he had 3 people left. The inside of car was half clean I guess who before me transported hay or something in it.. When I got into the vehicle the tire light came on but went away just as fast. Sunday the next day the tire was almost flat. I put air in the tire and by Monday it was completely flat on the rim. I notified the office Monday and was going to switch the car out but my work schedule didn't allow. So needless to say I have a rental that my insurance is paying for only to not be able to drive it. I called the office Thursday requesting someone to come and get it and was directed to roadside side assistance. After being on hold for more than 20 mins a rep came on the said something I didn't get (to fast) and threw me into the que for an hour only to be told I would be charged. This was the first time I used Hertz and will definitely be my last. read more

I have rented from this Hertz several times only because this is a preferred company partner for my employer. Twice I have reserved and they have not had a car available. I was given a 6 year old car once and they never have the class you reserved. Could you pick a more horrible location? Limited parking and extremely dangerous to pull out of the lot onto hwy 74 with cars going 60MPH. Building was small and dirty however the staffs were well dressed and professional. Anyway, I booked my reservation online. On the day of pickup, I arrived 45 minutes early. They had no cars and so we waited for a customer who was schedule to drop off the car. Half an hour went by and one was dropped off. The staff processed the transaction and quoted me an amount higher than I had reserved. He stated it was because I'm early. What the hell? I'll wait the friggin 15 minutes then. They "refreshed" the car for me. It still smelled and was dirty inside. Car ran fine though and we dropped it off a few days later without issues. Hertz Emergency Roadside Services left us stranded on August 10, 2016 on I-85 South in North Carolina with a blown out rear tire. We are three females not from the area let alone the state. The man who I spoke with at Hertz Emergency Roadside Services yelled at me, got extremely huffy and screamed at me several times.. "Well I can't locate where you are". I explained to him exactly what State we were in, what interstate we were on, what direction we were going, what mile marker we were by and what exit we were by. I even read the signs to him "Welcome to Rowan". He still said he could not find where we were. He put me on hold twice for well over five minutes each time. By this time it was dark and very dangerous where we were. We had to end up calling 911 and a NC Highway Patrol responded and changed the tire. HERTZ Emergency Roadside Service did NOTHING TO HELP US!!!!!!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND HERTZ. I have been renting from HERTZ for years. I will no longer rent from HERTZ and I will tell all my family, friends and co-workers not to rent from HERTZ.
