If I could give budget a negative rating I would. Where do I start? First we arrived to the budget rental area and the line was out the door. Come to find out, they were out of cars. 1.5 hrs after standing in line and it's finally my turn, I make my way to the counter just to be told they're out of 7 passenger vehicles which is what we reserved MONTHS and MONTHS ago. The clerk was not 100% transparent about this but I knew better after word made it through the line. I called them out on this and asked how this happens when people make reservations and he didn't know. I never received an apology or anything but was offered an upgrade with a charge. Are you kidding me? That was a slap in the face. They finally said they had 7 passenger vehicles but they needed to be cleaned so we wait some more. We are finally given out vehicle only to get in it and it's dirty. Hadn't been vacuumed, looked like a toddler messed all on the windows and windshield inside. Then we leave the airport and as I'm merging on the highway I look down and see the vehicle is only at 3/4 tank full. With gas being $4.50 a gallon and the expectation of budget to return the vehicle full otherwise we are charged insane amounts, this was yet another slap in the face. The vehicle also drove like crap. You can bet from frequent trackers we will NEVER do business with budget again and we will be sure to leave reviews and tell everyone we know how crappy they treat their customers. As if it could get any worse... well, it has, unfortunately. Over three weeks have passed since we returned the car and I literally just received a demand for almost 500 dollars worth of damage to the car. What? First of all, we noticed how crappy the car was when we were on the freeway and after two hours of attempting to get this car, the last thing we wanted to do was to return it. Second, they give you the car in a dark parking garage. How are you supposed to see, for example, that the fender was a little messed up? Luckily it's caught (sort of) on video that we had taken just in case some kind of nonsense like this turned up. Third, they are trying to get my car insurance info, which I had given them upon renting the car and I also added the BS additional insurance so I have no idea what this is all about. Mind you, nothing in the email I received stated exactly what the so-called damage was to the car (and why wasn't this mentioned upon return of the vehicle?) I rented a Jeep Cherokee through Costco Travel at an agreed base rate of around $412. Within 24 hours, I discovered the car had a plugged sidewall tire, a dangerous and illegal repair that made the vehicle unsafe to drive. I documented the damage and sent photos to Budget. In response, they confirmed the defect and instructed me to exchange the vehicle immediately. That alone should've triggered better service. Instead, here's what happened: I was downgraded to a cheaper Chevy Trailblazer, yet still charged for a Standard SUV A Budget rep promised me a free rental day to compensate for the safety issue, never honored Budget then re-rated my contract, increasing the base charge to $699.96, without telling me All fees, taxes, and surcharges were inflated because they were calculated off that improper rate I was charged a total of $930.13, far above what I agreed to, with no updated invoice, no breakdown, and no justification Only after escalating through Costco (who I originally went through) did Budget refund $342.28, but they still never explained what that refund covered or provided a breakdown of the refund. I asked repeatedly for a corrected invoice, an explanation of how the refund was calculated, or proof that I was ever informed of the rate change. They never responded. This isn't just bad service, it's a company that rents out unsafe vehicles, manipulates pricing after the fact, breaks its own verbal agreements, and hides behind silence when questioned. I've since submitted complaints to the BBB, and am pursuing additional consumer protection options. After reading many reviews, this is not uncommon with Budget. I've been a Budget Rental car Corp corporate account holder and Fast Break member for close to 15 years and they have gone WAY DOWNHILL! Five out of my last six reservations have been messed up or non-existent when I got there. Today, I waited in the Fast Break line (with 20-30 other people) for over 1.5 hours. When we finally got helped and assigned a car, everyone came back saying the car was gone. My truck that I reserved had a guy in it when I got to the stall. They rented the same vehicle to both of us confirmed by the license plate number and he drove off with the last truck, so I'll be hauling garbage in their brand new Jeep wagoneer. Very very very sad in this day and age. I purposely did not give budget/ Avis a bad review prior since they've been so good for years. NEVER EVER rent a car from Budget or Avis at the Charlotte airport (CLT). Was in line for 1.5 hrs with an additional 2 hrs possible. They had no cars available and as one came in, they cleaned it and sent it back out. There were people in front of me that had already been in line 2 hrs when I got in line. There were no announcements from agents about the situation. And apparently this is a known problem with this location as all the other car rental agencies were not busy and had stopped renting cars when they had no more cars. Those agencies were telling Budget/Avis customers this happens almost daily. I ended up calling Budget Customer service to cancel my reservation and to not get charged a no show fee. I took an uber for the 75 min drive to my destination. I WILL NEVER USE BUDGET OR AVIS AGAIN!! I wish there was a zero star rating. read more

I WOULD PUT 0 STARS IF I COULD. We arrived around 7pm at the Airport, having to drive over two hours to our Airbnb. The reservation was for a Camry or similar. They gave us on the paperwork a Hybrid Camry. The girl gave us the wrong car, telling us it was a hybrid. Little did we know, about two hours into our drive needing to get gas that it was a FULLY electric car. We had to go to MULTIPLE charging ports far apart from each other and NONE supported the car we were given. We had less than 20 miles left. We were stranded and had to get a hotel to charge the car for the night. AWFUL EXPERIENCE. One thing to mess up, another to have HORRIBLE customer service. We called them multiple times that night since they were open until 2am but apparently their customer service line closes at 7:30pm????? WHY WOULD THAT BE THE CASE? When multiple people need help later then those hours. In the morning, we called MULTIPLE TIMES to exchange the car in a different airport closer and check if they had available cars. YOU CANNOT ACCESS ANY INDIVIDUAL BUDGET FRANCHISE FROM THE PHONE NUMBER. The customer service people know NOTHING about if cars are available or what can be done. Furthermore, they are unable to transfer you to ANY location or help AT ALL. SO USELESS. AWFUL. Luckily, we eventually changed out the car A WHOLE DAY LATER because we wasted a drive going into the airport only to find there were NO AVAILABLE cars (thanks customer service for NOTHING because they couldn't tell us). We wasted more than a day having to deal with this and it ruined the beginning of our vacation. We are both telling all of our friends and families to NEVER go Budget. Worst experience ever with a rental car agency. I rented a car from Budget at CLT airport and noticed when I got in it that the windshield was cracked. What I didn't expect was a bill for $783 to come in the mail 10 day later blaming me for the cracked windshield. I didn't take pictures because I figured they already knew about it. I called them and they insisted I owed and then they automatically charged my credit card I used for the rental. Never Again will I ever rent a car from Avis/Budget. This review is really more for the Budget Car Rental company as a whole more than it is for the specific location but it is at this location where my frustration starts. My mom and I flew into Charlotte with reservations for a car only to find out there were no cars available. It took us a while to arrive at that conclusion. I stood in one long line only to find out it was the wrong line. My mom stood in another line that was even longer that was also wrong. That is where we first heard that there may not be any cars available. We got down stairs and in the right line and confirmed the lack of cars. There must have been at least 200 people waiting for cars that Budget could not deliver on. We checked with a couple of other companies that were also out of cars. Budget was the only one with a line so long. The others were not busy at all. What I learned from this is that car rental companies are quick to overbook and even quicker to take your money. So, as I sat there in the airport car rental center I canceled my reservation and waited for my cousin to pick us up. Two days later I received an email saying I was being charged $50 for not canceling 24 hours before hand. How the hell was I supposed to know the day before that THEY would not have a car for me. So I called, got very frustrated, and complained. This led to the only good thing in this whole ordeal. The lady I spoke with was understanding, looked into my claims, and issued me a refund of the $50 they should never have stolen from me in the first place. Never again, Budget. I rented my vehicle from the Budget at the MCO airport in Orlando. If you choose to rent a car with them, review the contract thoroughly and ask questions before signing. Their staff will not voluntarily explain the nuances between their different offerings. For example, they have two different E-Toll options for their vehicles. A standard option (pay for the tolls that you incur and a small convenience fee on the days you incur them) and an unlimited option (pay a flat rate every day of your rental regardless if you go through tolls). The staff member that finalized my reservation simply asked me, "do you plan on using the toll unit in the vehicle?" to which I responded, "Yes." I had no idea at the time there were two different toll programs. He then proceeded to sign me up for their E-Toll Unlimited program and I was hit with a hefty fee at the end of my reservation. I received a letter in the mail fourteen days later stating there was damage to the vehicle, when I called I was informed that there was a nail in the tire. The vehicle rented was a 2025 if there was a nail in the tire I believe the sensor should have came on. My card was charged without authorization . Worst experience ever! Waited over an hour in line to get a car, they had 3 people working with 10 other open desk. They are using 1980's dot matrix printers for rental documents and the staff move like zombies without a care in the world. Manager nowhere to be found. Take a page out of SixT car rentals book, use an app for rental pickup, get a vehicle damage app so people can quickly document damage already on the car. And get some modern equipment for you staff. I have used Budget and Avis in other places with satisfactory service but this location is the worst! Car had dirty windows inside, could barely see out the back. If you're considering using Budget to rent a vehicle, I highly recommend that you think twice! This was my first time renting from Budget, and it will definitely be my last. I learned a valuable lesson. While Hertz and Enterprise may be slightly more expensive, their quoted prices are accurate, and their employees are honest and forthcoming. I rented a vehicle from Miami airport on April 20th, with plans to return it to Charlotte airport by 12 PM. However, I returned the vehicle at 1:18 PM. Despite being assured by the employee that I wouldn't be charged for the extra hour, I ended up being charged for an entire additional day. I even confirmed this with a representative over the phone, who gave me the same assurance. Yet, I was still billed for two full days! Customer service has been unhelpful, and it seems that Budget is only interested in making extra money at the expense of its customers. Moving forward, I will continue to use Enterprise and Hertz. I've also been trying to find the employee who checked me out to file a formal complaint, but I haven't received any response regarding that, either! read more

On Saturday 5/17/25 I waited a full hour in line to pick up a reserved Budget car. There were 4 rental agents on duty and on average they took approximately 15 to 20 minutes to handle a rental. When I finally got to the rental counter I was assigned a car in row D. The entire row D was empty and the garage manager told me it had not been used for 2 days. It took the garage manager another 30 minutes to get a real car assigned to me and that car had defective brakes. It will likely be rented again because there were no visible Budget personnel in the garage at drop off to advise of the brake issue. Budget in CLT deserves every bad review it has received. Rented from Budget and agreed to insurance. Insurance was just under $300 and one way premium was $100. Billed my credit car $465, which did not correspond to written receipt they provided with the charge nor what agent told me when I rented. Called and they promised to elevate it to research, case number provided and rep's name was provided. After a month I called them again and they told me case had never been submitted--even though they provided me a case number for the "pending 10" department. Asked for a supervisor but no luck. I'll have to think long and hard before renting from Budget again. At least when travelling to Charlotte, NC. I couldn't be more disappointed. We traveled from Boston to Charlotte on October 4th, 2024. It was the worst experience I've ever had with a car rental agency. The line was excessively long and took almost an hour before I got to see an agent. I remember the Budget line being long the last time we were in Charlotte, as well. I assumed at the time they may have been having computer problems. We rented from a different agency then and the process was fairly quick. Budget and Avis agents share duties so I was checked in by an Avis representative. There were 8 terminals and only 4 agents. As I stood in line I attempted to cancel my reservation and pay the cancellation fee. However, the earliest available vehicle at the other agencies was 2 1/2 hours out so I had no choice except to wait it out. After finally checking in I was directed to the 3rd floor to pick up the SUV that I rented. When I arrived at the 3rd floor Budget location there was another long line and total confusion. Apparently they ran out of SUV's. I settled on a Toyota Camry just to get out of there. Total time to pick up a vehicle was 1 hour and 50 minutes. My flight from Boston was 1 hour and 45 minutes, so it took longer to get the vehicle than my flight time. My suggestion would be to increase your staffing during peak times, Budget. read more
