Wish this Hertz has more options for mystery vehicles. Also the rental car area was hard to find but at least not shuttle was needed to get here. I used Dollar through an Expedia rental and since it was 9pm that counter was closed and I had to go through the hertz line. Wish I booked AAA through the app for a discount. I rented back in September and just realized I forgot to do my review. I reserved and pre-paid for a Mustang Convertible through Priceline. I also got the Insurance through Priceline , not Budget since it was cheaper. I don't usually get the insurance , but since I was going to be staying in Myrtle Beach for a few days I wanted to be covered since theft , vandalism , and such are a problem now more there. I still love Myrtle Beach though. I also visited friends and family in both NC and SC. After having it a couple days I noticed a charge for the Insurance through Budget. I tried calling several times and couldn't get through to the airport location. When I called the 1-800 number ( in India ) they wouldn't take it off and said I would have to talk to the airport location itself either on the phone or upon return. When I returned it I spoke with one of the reps and they took it off and said on my Hertz Gold it has me automatically taking the insurance , so I went online and changed that. I never had it set on my account and last time I rented I didn't get charged , but somehow it got changed to authorize insurance upon rental. Of course the walk from the terminal in Charlotte to your rental car area is terrible and they were doing some remodeling. Since I'm Hertz Gold I went directly to the car area and went inside the office there to get my keys , contract , etc and find out where my car was parked , it was right next to the office. The car was clean and I inspected for damage and it all looked good. When I drove out to the gate I noticed the low tire pressure light on one of the tires and it was only down a couple pounds according to the gauge. I stopped at like a 7-11 with an air pump and added a few pounds and was on my way. A few days later the light comes on again and I added air again to the tire. I didn't see any nails in the tire or anything like that , slow leak. I spent almost a week in Myrtle Beach and the last day again I had to add air to the tire before heading back to Charlotte. When I arrived I told them about the tire and it needed to be checked or replaced. The car was nice to have and I had the top down almost the entire trip , the weather was perfect. It got pretty good MPG too , more than my own car. Of course it had all the tech stuff for the radio and Navigation. read more

Me and my family put a reservation in for a car days in advance. We flew in from Phoenix for a graduation out in South Carolina. Once we arrived we were told there were no cars available even if you reserved. It was stated that there were 30 reservations in front of us with no car available. They said they would call an uber for us for $380 to take us where we needed for the night but with no rental. Later on, we called to cancel the reservation to avoid any charges and they tried to say the car was picked up. We finally got it settled and while asking for confirmation on the cancelation the worker we were talking to hung up on us mid question. Horrible service, and horrible preparation. Would not use this service again. Now me and my family are stranded at a hotel trying to find a last minute car rental when we thought we had a reservation. read more

I rented a car from Hertz back in May. They have these new UVE systems that will take a photo of before and after car was taken from the rental and use AI to see if damage was detected. After I dropped off the car and I went through security line, I got a text saying damage to the car please pay the fine of $240 dollars and if you pay now you get a 40% off the administration cost and you have 36 hours. Good scare tactic to make you pay now, but good thing I have a wife to talk to on this and she looked at the before and after picture and said she hardly noticed the difference and said we should call tomorrow. We called they told us to e-mail them. Anyways this process takes awhile about 3 weeks for us, but the key is to follow up with them. They make you go through the hassle to the point of where I want to pay them, but my wife told me do not give in. They finally reviewed the case and they said they dropped the charges against me. Unfortunately, I kept on getting emails from them saying to pay the fee. Now they are in the process of talking to the my car insurer's and unfortunately when you want to talk to someone the people do not know what they are doing. Anyways with this new system, I feel like this is a money grab and in the short term they will reap the profits by having customers buy the extra insurance so they will not get hassled. However, they will loose a lot of customers including myself that have been a gold member for 10 years, but I would rather give other car companies business even though Hertz offers low prices. Okay now that is out of the way about the new camera system. There were no cars in the gold lot, so they sent us to the presidential lot. Unfortunately, you need to read the writing on the window. There were three cars that said needed oil change, something is broken, etc. We got a Kia K5 and it was dirty on the inside, but we wanted to head to the hotel and then to the park. read more

I purchased everything on a third party site - including insurance coverage on my rental. After pulling up my reservation they offered me insurance, as if I didn't have any already. Having made my reservation a while ago I forgot about the insurance already purchased, and why would they offer it if I already had it, right? So my dumb butt agreed - an additional $372 for a week of coverage that I already had. No, they're not sympathetic towards the misunderstanding. they just want the money. Even offered that I prepay for a full tank of gas, which seemed convenient and reasonable, until I get in the car and have less than half a tank. Yet another money grabbing company that will take advantage of its customers for its own profits. App that's all that matters to them. read more

Everything! First, we had a reservation for weeks leading up to the date of the visit with a discount code from my company. When we arrived the dispassionate "manager" did not help. It was like talking to the floor except the floor has a larger vocabulary. We used über to a different location the next day. I cannot believe Hertz, a German company, would allow such a dump to exist. So depressing. All this location had were large trucks. The at the end of the trip we tried to find out what the cost would be to drop the vehicle back at the airport. Eventually we found the cost would be nothing. However, to get to the point where we found this out was like pulling a 747 thru the front door of your house. It caused way too much stress for what should have been super easy. Hertz!! Buy more cars! Hire some employees with intellectual capacity to problem solve instead of just saying "there's nothing we can do". Nice vehicle. SUV. Easy learning curve. I specifically asked for a vehicle equipped with gps. Despite assurances, screen display says no such thing on this vehicle, and I was already well away from the airport. Mission had to proceed, so I kept going. Cell coverage surprisingly good in that whole metro area, and remains so in the countryside, which is where my business was. As an aside: the way they are tearing up the countryside down there, place will be a little too much Metro for my taste. Money talks, and consequences be damned. So, I'll most likely use Hertz again, but will ask a lot more questions next time. And get some of the employees moving the vehicles around to work on their English a bit. read more

if I could give 0 stars I would. I used Hertz as a last resort after my travel plans changed -- and they made everything more stressful. I was wrongly charged $500 for a lost key, called 16 times with no response, and only got help after driving to the location in person. I'm still waiting on the refund they "processed," and they offered me $50 as a "gesture" -- which honestly felt insulting after everything I went through. I had to repeat my rental info multiple times and even kept getting emails with my name wrong. I picked up my rental around 7 am and was immediately pressured to buy insurance. The agent bombarded me with questions about my personal insurance, insisting I wouldn't be covered--even though I know I am, as I have multiple cards that provide physical damage and liability coverage. It felt more like a hard sales pitch than genuine assistance and forget trying to get them to pick up the phone for any questions or support. The car selection was limited to one option, which wasn't a huge deal, but returning the car was another hassle. I attempted to drop it off around 2 am, only to find the entrance blocked by a truck, with no way to leave the vehicle. While their operating hours are from 5 am to 1 am, it's frustrating that they don't allow after-hours drop-offs like most other rental companies do at the airport. I gave two stars only because the parking staff was friendly and helpful. And as an underwriter for an insurance company, having them aggressively explain my own coverage to me was almost entertaining. Not the cheapest place but they helped us out in a pinch. It was a bit confusing what counter to go to. They have one for normal customers who need wheels to go to, and a separate one in the garage for their rewards customers. The staff that moves the car in the garage are a bit rude, and not super helpful. When returning my car they got mad because I didn't wait at the returns area. There was no one there and I had places to be so I parked the car exactly where I had rented it from and one of the tenders got a little attitude with me because I returned it at the very minute I said I would. They wanted it early I guess. Maybe call and ask if I can bring it back a bit early for another customer? I would have tried. read more

I'm Hertz Gold, reserved a Jeep Compass, just like the Seinfeld episode they don't have anything like that. Typical. Got a Jeep Wrangler 4 Door with big tires and a lift kit, loud and hard to get in and out of, dirty because the washing equipment was broken, though they offered reimbursement if I would wash their car for them. Needed the 4x4 as we were going north into the snow belt, so accepted the rental, fine, whatever. Toll booths are now license plate driven with no attendants so I received a bill for the $8 in tolls, plus a $20 "convenience fee' that doesn't seem very convenient. Checked the website and to use their toll slider it was $20 a day, even worse. read more

WARNING TO WOMEN USING HERTZ RENTAL CARS I'm sharing this so no other woman has to go through what my mom experienced at a Hertz location. We had a reservation. Everything was prepaid. But the Hertz employee kept pressuring my mother to upgrade to a more expensive vehicle--even after she clearly said "no" multiple times. He wouldn't stop until I had to step in and tell him to move on. Then he tried to force extra insurance on her, again ignoring multiple "no"s. It escalated until I had to get involved again. After that, the man refused to speak to her at all, telling me she would have to "talk to her husband." We were stunned. This is the United States--women have the right to conduct business without a man intervening. We ended up having to get her husband on the phone just to complete the process. My mom turned to me and said, "It's really starting to feel like this is because I'm a woman." When I called this out and asked if that was the reason, the employee said nothing. He simply ignored her. That is misogyny, plain and simple. Customer support? Completely useless. * I contacted Hertz customer chat support -- they disconnected three times. * I called and waited two hours just to be hung up on. * I messaged them through Facebook -- they refused to help. I'm a 32-year-old combat veteran. I've seen a lot, but watching my mother get treated like a second-class citizen in her own country was unacceptable. The Hertz at CLT airport has been a must, when needing rental vehicles upon landing. It's a pain to navigate from a terminal through baggage claim, then go through more passageways to arrive at the on-site rental center. Employees are helpful but watch out for other drivers when exiting. read more

Overcharged! I booked a car online a few weeks before our trip to Charlotte. I took advantage of their Managers Special EV rental and opted to prepay the total amount to save even more money. The rental went smoothly. When I picked up the car, I opted for their "Fuel Purchase Option" so I wouldn't have to charge up before returning the car. The checkout gal told me it would be less than $23. But when I looked at my credit card statement after the trip, instead of the $23, Hertz ended up charging me over $150! Talking to customer service 4 times brought that down by $90, but they refused to honor the agreed upon price, saying the amount I prepaid was an "estimate" of the rental cost. The price I prepaid online was listed on the final invoice as "Voucher Value". How can they unilaterally change the price of the rental without telling people? That's criminal in my book. read more

Car broke down (rented from Jacksonville Airport location) in TN and they towed it and me 2 hours to Charlotte and they still charged me for rental. I waited for 6.5 Hours for tow on side on I40. Got to facility where tow truck was told to bring disabled vehicle to and no one there to take car or give me new car. This location, Road Side Asst, Jax Location and Hertz in general are terrible. Had to stay in hotel one night and came back to facility next day and 3 hours still no car to replace then I get the $600 charge while I am still there and I argue with Manager and he said basically "whatever". Pay for a car rental that was never completed due to car breakdown ? Can not believe this company. National is far better. I am a Sales Rep and have lost wages as well due to this debacle. read more

Where to I start? Our flight arrived at 8pm Friday night in Sept. Check in at the front counter at Hertz was easy though they made an announcement that anyone who made a reservation that day or looking to make a reservation today they would not be accepting the reservation as they have a limited number of cars, that should've been the first indicator. Luckily, we made our reservation months in advance, so we weren't too concerned. On our walk over to the parking garage our second warning flag should've been the massive line at Avis as there were no lines at any of the car rental companies. We waited for 1.5 hours for a car. The Hertz parking lot was empty. THERE WERE NO CARS, just 4 EV cars and that was it. They kept trying to push an EV car on us. "You want an EV car? You want a Tesla? I know you want a Tesla, they're so fun to drive we got one right here." Everyone in the line was refusing the EV cars, we specifically booked a gas car because we were road tripping into the mountains for a wedding and did not want to be confined to finding EV chargers throughout our say. They kept pushing EV on us. Everyone waiting in line kept refusing. They even said that its looking like they're only going to have EV cars for the rest of the night so we better start thinking which one we wanted. I felt so bad for the employees, it was added stress that they did not anticipate, a few apodized but you can tell they were stressed. We missed some wedding events because of the incompetence of this Hertz company. Hertz has been advertising so much that EV cars are "so great" but when people booked in advance for a specific type of car they better have what we ordered. They didn't even offer anything for compensation, just if we took an EV car we didn't have to return it back fully charged. 1.5 hours later ONE gas car rolled in to the parking lot, and by some miracle we were the next in line to be placed in a car. Hertz looked at our ticket and realized that the car that just came in was not the type of car we specifically booked for our rental, they were just about to refuse this car to us but I think they saw our faces and let us take this one car. We sped out of there so fast out of fear they'd take this car away from us. The drop off was easy on Sunday evening and to our surprise, their parking lot was completely full of cars. We dropped and left, nothing much to say here. But wow what a nightmare. read more

Rented a car for 4 days at Hertz at CLT for $324, which seemed very fair. Everything was great until I returned the car. They have camera system you drive through when you leave and return. Dropped off the car and by the time I got to security, I received an email from Hertz billing me $440 for damage to one of the tires. I went back to Hertz and the car was gone. I was sent 3 places before someone had the car brought back to the office. The damage was an abrasion on about 20% of the diameter of the edge of the tire rim. Attached is a picture of what $440 of damage looks like to Hertz. I have been unable to find a way to request a reconsideration or object to the amount. This is clearly a way to shake down a good customer. The inflated damage claim was 135% of cost to rent the car. read more

So I rented another car - everything was going smooth - the car was fine. The EXACT charge was $55.62- I dropped off the car on Monday 7/5/21. On Tuesday- I get a pending transaction of $100 taken off my card; on Wednesday I get another transaction of $100 taken off my card. When I picked up the car on SUNDAY- there was already a deposit of $256 that WAS ALREADY TAKEN OFF MY CARD!! I call Hertz customer service - they said it was a problem closing out my contract and the system is automatically taking money off my card- seriously!!!!!????? THURSDAY- $140 is TAKEN OFF MY CARD! The car was dropped off on Monday the same condition it was in when it was given to me- why is money still being taken 3 days later !!!??? I booked car rental on priceline on 7th May at 1030pm.. i called priceline the next day at 1pm to change the driver. they told me i need to call hertz. when i called hertz they told me to call uber.I didnt receive any email or text stating my rental. Hertz gave me the reservation number (K48430942A0) to inform uber. they were rude and they asked me to call hertz. By now I was ready to cancel the booking. I downloaded hertz app and was able to cancel. the app told me that my reservation was cancelled. And i look at my credit card hertz charged 268.34$. there is no customer service for hertz in the US, your call gets transferred to china. i called 4 times and all the 4 time chinese call center picked up the call. never again with hertz or priceline. AVOID AT ALL COST! They must get paid a commission for up-selling. Unbelievably awful. They tried to scam me out of $350 in additional fees and then charged me a no-show fee because I refused to pay it. Here's the detail... I reserved a car online and the total was $394. The app gave me the option to check-in online and "skip the line". I probably should have. When I arrived at the counter, the total practically DOUBLED, as I was told the total due was a little over $900. I questioned this and I was told it was because of the insurance "requirement". I told them I had my own insurance and didn't want to pay for the additional insurance. The woman was so incredibly rude, insisting that I had to pay for it as it is "required by law". She went on about the various levels of insurance, the options and the hazards of not buying the top level insurance. she said at the very least, you have to pay the liability. Again I reminded her that I own a very expensive vehicle and my insurance would cover the liability. She changed the total to $744. Still practically double the quoted total. I told her if I had checked in on the app, I would only have paid the quoted total. she told me "well then you should have done that". This is when I realized what kind of person I was dealing with. I told her "um, no thank you, Enterprise doesn't impose this fee, I'll go there" . This rude lady said "you better hope you can get a car, because you're not coming back to me". Oh. MyGod! Then, five minutes later I check the app and they charged me a $48 no-show fee!! Tried calling, nobody answers. You can't get in touch with an actual person. Go to Enterprise. read more

One star is overly generous! I was in an accident and used the other driver's insurance to pay for my rental. Let's now go through all of the issues I had from there: 1. The local Hertz office near the body shop I went to does not have a working phone. You can call but straight to voicemail which is full. When I arrived at the Hertz location they confirmed that indeed the phone does not work, but were able to get me into a kia soul with very dirty stained seats. 2. The guy working told me that if I call insurance they will upgrade my rental. I called and they upgraded me to a "Luxury" tier vehicle. I was not able to call because of the phone issue so I returned to the Hertz where they told me they had no other vehicles but I could check other locations, but they could not due to lack of phone. The next Hertz location I went to was open so I went in but there were no employees to be found. There were empty desks but no employees. After looking around for a whil I gave up and stuck it out with the dirty kia. 3. I finally returned the rental when my repairs were done and I thought... "at least i am done with this" NOPE, a month or so later I recieved a bill for and additional $200. I called the support line and they told me it was because I kept the vehicle for an additional 10 days. I called the body shop, where I was instructed to leave the rental, and they confirmed that I did indeed drop it off on time and should not be responsible for the additional cost. 4. I called Hertz back and told them all of this to which they said they would have to open an investigation into the situation. I offered the number of the person whom I returned the vehicle to and they said they could not call them. I was then told that after a 2 hour conversation that it is my responsibility to follow up on the investigation periodically over the next 2 to 3 weeks. They will no be following up with me and if I do not call them back after the investigation has been completed then the charges will stand. 5. I told the person on the phone that this has been a terrible experience from day one to which she responded with a simple, unempathetic "Ok". WTF, maybe stop paying for Tom Brady to make so many commercials and put in a tiny bit of effort to help your customers! read more

Never rent a car from Hertz Hertz car rental at DCA airport lied to me that a fuel charge was recommended but would refunded when it was returned. It charged me $50 when the car was returned in full. Therefore, the guy who rented it to me issued a refund receipt. However, Hertz Customer Service did not want to recognize the receipt (also saved in its computer system). Chase Bank could not do anything after a dispute was filed. I ended up canceling my credit card (Chase failed customer protection) and wasted additional $50 (paid full rent to Priceline). What a disaster. Our fight was delayed coming into CLT. My wife called the Hertz there and the outgoing message says they close at 1. No problem, we would have an hour to spare. When we arrived the office was closed. We approached some of the staff working the gates and were told, "We always close at 12. What do you want me to do about it?" The lady was yelling at my wife. Luckily, our hotel was close so a can ride got us where we needed to go. My wife returned the next morning only to discover that the posted hours of operation are from 6:00am to 1:00 am. The customer service line was backed up and there were only two employees working the desk. I have worked in customer service and sales for 20 years. Not all customer interactions go as smoothly as we like, and gate employees may not be the best folks for handling customer service issues. But just get the basics right, okay? Post the correct hours. Make sure it is reflected in all your communications. We were not the only family impacted by this. Two other customers approached the same folks as us that night. With no recommendations for cabs, busses, nothing. Your company screwed up. Take some ownership. read more

We were supposed to fly back to Charlotte from Philly, but because of Covid-19, our plans changed and we decided to drive. We already had a rental car in Philly that we drove back to Charlotte and dropped off here. So we don't have experience actually renting a car here, but the drop off process was really easy. If you want a digital receipt, you can leave the keys in the car and go without talking to anyone. While I wasn't using the airport, this is one of the more conveniently located Hertz at an airport. You don't have to take a shuttle to get to it, you can just walk across the street to the parking garage. Since I live in Charlotte, I don't imagine I'll need to rent a car here, but if I did need to rent a car it would be convenient. read more

I hate to paint with a broad brush and I'm sure there are terrific people who work here, but the knuckleheads who check you in when you're returning your car, need some serious training in the bare minimum of courtesy. We rented a brand new 2023 Nissan SUV. We got a flat 30 minutes after driving There was NO Jack in the car just a tire. We couldn't leave the car. They couldn't have someone replace the car they closed after we left the airport we were on the phone for an hour trying to get help we were stranded 2 hours from the hotel for the wedding !! We were totally stranded every service provider in our area were closed. We were stuck in that car in the middle of no where !! It would have cost us 82.00 for a tow had it been past 1 hr. Car leaked almost all oil overnight. It cost me a full day of my vacation to arrange for, take it to and exchange. Hertz charged me $200 in exchange fees (after following instructions of Hertz emergency care). Then, threw up their hands and said can't do anything about it. TO AVOID $200 exchange fee for mechanical, when you notice a problem- ignore it and leave car running all night until it blows or catches fire- then call Hertz.
