I booked a 7-passenger Mitsubishi Expander through the SIXT website using the flexible booking option. When I arrived, I realized I didn't need such a large vehicle anymore and asked to switch to a smaller car that was available. I was not asking for anything free. I simply asked to be charged fairly for the smaller vehicle. Instead, I was told that changing the reservation would count as a cancellation and would involve about a 15% fee, which essentially removed the savings from switching to a cheaper car. So even though I drove away in a smaller vehicle, I still paid almost the same price as the larger one. This is what felt unfair. If a customer books a smaller car and asks to upgrade to a larger one, the company would obviously charge the difference. When the situation is reversed and the customer wants a cheaper vehicle, the same principle should apply. Travelers should also be aware of the insurance structure. I was charged about $107.55 for Third Party Liability, but the way it was explained at the counter made it clear that this coverage was minimal, and additional coverage was strongly recommended for about the same amount again. Also, if you rely on your credit card insurance instead of purchasing the company's full coverage, the security deposit increases from $1,000 to $3,000. BEWARE - I have never written a review before but feel obligated to warn people about this company. We rented a Yukon Denali XL from this "premium" car rental company for a trip. On our way back, the car broke down while driving down a major US highway. Thankfully I was able to steer my family to the side of the road safely but the car wouldn't restart. I get that cars malfunction and I'm not blaming the company for that per se, but it was the company's response that was baffling. We called the helpline number they provided and explained the situation. For the next 2 hours, they read their corporate policies to me for reasons why they couldn't help us, passing us off to four different people. Despite pleading with them to send a wrecker or another car or a driver or something they refused despite being aware of the dangerous situation. We were miles away from the nearest exit and it was pitch black. The car was dying so hazard lights eventually got dimmer and we were sitting just feet from the right lane. They said we were in too dangerous of a situation to send help and needed to get a wrecker to tow us to the nearest gas station before they could do anything. Obviously no wrecker has enough space for all the family and dogs. Finally they agreed to send a car from 3 hours away to our location (it had to come from an airport destination despite having a location 45 minutes away). By that time, I had began exploring my own options for getting my family home and ultimately hired a driver from a nearby city (Uber wasn't available where we were). Obviously this transcends bad service and shows a blatant disregard for customer safety. Feel free to move forward with the small discount they offer you but just know you are completely on your own if anything goes wrong with the car. Rented a car for 4 days. Got a flat from a screw in the tire and called roadside assistance. Rep said the car had run flat tires and gave me the option to either drive back to the airport that day to exchange the vehicle or I could just return the car the following day as originally intended. If I returned the next day, I would be refunded for not being able to the car for a day. I was in town for business and had to use an uber to get to my meetings that day. Turns out I was deceived and lied to. Everything seemed good except after the trip, SIXT denied my 1 day refund and would only be refunding $18 for one day of the extra insurance coverage. They said because I booked through Expedia, there's nothing they can do. Pretty much a "too bad, so sad" response from customer service. This is the second time I've rented with Sixt in Nashville, and both times the same thing happened: "We don't have the car you booked. You can wait indefinitely, or you can upgrade for a fee and leave now." No free upgrade, no downgrade option, no real choice. The first time I chalked it up to bad luck. The second time, with the exact same script, it felt like a scam. This is a classic high-pressure sales pitch -- scarcity, urgency, false choice. I was delayed getting into charlotte and instead of waiting for a rebooked 7am flight, I decided to rent a car and drive to rdu. The sixt app allowed me to book a car for pick up at 1am. This made me assume the car rental desk would be open at that time. I left the security area to go to car rentals to pick up my car and the desk was closed. I called customer service and they told me "I could just wait until the desk opens at 6am..." I told them the only reason I booked the car was so I could get home before 6am and to cancel the reservation. They told me it would be a $200 fee to cancel. When I explained how I assumed when the app allowed me to book a 1am pick up, the desk would be open, they replied "There's nothing we can do." Because security was then closed at 1am, I ended up having to sleep on the floor in baggage claim. Horrible company. The clerk at the counter was just short of rude, but he was a gem compared to the guy at the rental booth in the garage. I was supposedly getting an upgrade but was given a smaller car and was told that was all they had, despite cars sitting everywhere. Pretty sure it was because I was returning it somewhere else. Had to stop and air up one of the tires. When I returned the car in Atlanta, the person working the lanes - yes, only one at one of the busiest airports in the country - wouldn't even make the angry family returning the car in the lane next to me move out of the way so I could pull forward all the way. The kid who had to get off his chair to walk over to take care of my car didn't bother to actually check it in so halfway home I get a message questioning if I'm keeping the car an extra day. The next day I get a receipt showing that I didn't return the car until that morning. When I try to get ahold of someone, all I can get is a Chat on WhatsApp. They want me to prove I returned the car with a picture or fuel receipt or proof that I flew out that day. Really? My reservation wasn't enough, so I had to dig out the fuel receipt but by then I was cut off because I didn't get it within the two-minutes they gave me, even though I had to wait almost 8 minutes to get a human. Of course, when I stated that they should have my picture returning it since I had to go through photo confirmation system when I pulled in, I was amazingly cut off. Only after giving the fuel receipt and the receipt for checking my truck out of the parking lot at the airport at home, which showed I was home on the day it was due back, was I given an adjusted bill with the extra day removed. That was thanks to customer service rep two. That's an hour plus of my life I will never get back. If I could give them a zero I would. We rented a car in July via Expedia and unfortunately we chose SIXT. We purchased the rental insurance in case of an accident. My daughter was driving and was the insured, a car hit her from behind and the car was towed and she was determined not to be at fault. Because we had the insurance and the driver was at fault, the damages were covered. We thought we were fine. However, SIXT's team picked the car up from the tow yard, once their team picked it up it was in their hands. However, their agent returned the car the day after the rental expired which we had no control over. SIXT not only charged $145 for one day, but they also billed our credit card for the entire rental even though we paid for it via Expedia. We contacted Expedia and they said the billing was up to SIXT. To make matters worse, we paid double to rent the vehicle and still had to get another car out of pocket for he remainder of the trip. So, the $246 rental ended up costing over $700 plus we had to rent another car to get home. This company is a racket and I am also extremely disappointed in Expedia for not refunding our money. After a long tiring travel day I go to get the car I reserved over a month ago and it was not there. So the gal at the counter said for $14 you can have. RAV4. I thought, great $14 a day!!! After multiple delays, we decided to cancel the trip and did so well within the window to received refund. Expedia assured me that flights, hotel and car were canceled. Shortly there after, I received a text from Sixt with a receipt for the car reservation that was canceled. Called Expedia and was given the response that Sixt didn't cancel reservation in time so I was responsible for the vehicle rental charge. It has been a few weeks and I am still communicating with them to get this resolved. Stick with the other rental car agencies. If I could give less than one star, I would. I rented a luxury car for 2 days to get back and forth from work as I had traded my old car in and was waiting to pick up my new one. When I got to the desk to pick up at the airport, the attendant tried to upsell me several times. He then put me in a pick up. I even asked when it appeared on the screen "I'm not getting that, right? I paid for a luxury utility vehicle." He said, nah, you're good. When I got to the garage to pick up, the attendant told me I had a pick-up and I told him I would not accept so he gave me a BMW. Shame on me, I did not fully check it over as I just wanted to get home after a long day. I noticed it had a strong smell when I got in it, but wasn't going to bother trying to find an alternate car at that point. I literally drove it home from the airport to my house and parked it in the garage. I then drove 11 miles to work and parked in my normal spot - in an open parking lot with no curbs, no islands - just long row of parking spots. The car only sat in my garage or the parking lot. I returned it 2 days later and informed the attendant it had a strong smell (like cologne trying to cover weed) and he agreed it smelled strong. He looked at the car and told me he'd tell the manager about the smell. 2 days later I got an email claiming that a rim had damage of 10 cm down to the primer. How the hell could I have done that when it sat in my garage for 24 of the 48 hour rental period and I did not park anywhere near anything that could scrape a rim "down to the primer"? They claim it was not there upon pick up per their "camera system" - but how do I know if the picture of the rim is even from the BMW I rented? I disputed the claim and said I did not scrape anything in the 2 days I had it. They subsequently came back and said I need to pay $571 to repair the rim (which includes a $200 "administrative fee"!) This is a complete scam! This is the second time Sixt has tried to claim damage to a car we rented that was not caused by us. I will NEVER rent from this company again, They are dishonest, fraudulent and deceptive. I'm unsure about the other reviews, but my experience suggests this company is only interested in taking your money while providing horrible service. They won't assist if your car has issues. Please read below to avoid a similar situation. I chose Sixt Rental through Priceline, wanting to try their service. At the airport, during pickup, I was pressured to upgrade. They advertised a "Black Friday deal," claiming it would only cost an additional $40 (which turned out to be untrue, and their blatant lies were shocking). The customer service was poor from the start, but I agreed to the extra $40, just wanting to leave. After driving for 25 minutes, I noticed the BMW's Bluetooth and sensors weren't working. I had chosen a luxury BMW for its safety and quality. Reaching out to them took an hour. The representative offered no solution, so I requested a manager. I was told the manager can't get on call but will call within 30 minutes. I drove carefully, aiming to report the issue to avoid any responsibility for potential problems. THE MANAGER NEVER CALLED BACK. The rental car nearly ruined my trip. I repeatedly contacted them as the sensors continued to malfunction. For two days, there was no response. Upon returning the car, I was advised to discuss the issue with the on-site manager. I informed him about the car's problems and my experience. He offered to waive the charge and provide a voucher. I emphasized the need for a thorough check before renting the car again. At the desk to return the keys, I discovered they charged me $141 instead of $40. I called the manager again to go over this again cause after a tiresome drive I just wanted to resolve this and go. To avoid discussing this in front of other customers, he promised to resolve it. Yet, upon checking my bank account after a week they charged me full price. They forgot about the vouchers and charged me the full price. They are now unresponsive. I recently rented a car for the first time from Sixt in Charlotte. The rates were reasonable, and the tech seemed advanced compared to the competitors. The pick-up and drop-off process was efficient. As someone who rents cars almost weekly, this was a test to see if switching from Avis Budget made any sense. Unfortunately, this is where the good news ends. A week or so after my rental ended, I received an e-mail indicating that I had damaged one of the rims. Sixt apparently uses a "perfect" AI camera system that unequivocally proves that a specific renter caused said damage. I was asked three simple questions: 1) Are you aware of the damage? I am not aware of this damage 2) Did you check the vehicle for damages? I did not check the vehicle for damages, and 3) Did you fill in all relevant details and upload photos? No. Why would I have details and photos if unaware of damage that I ostensibly caused according to their "AI". Fast-forward, it is Thanksgiving morning, and I receive an e-mail from Sixt saying that I caused the damage and was being charged $742.58. Happy Thanksgiving!!! Seriously, you e-mail me on Thanksgiving Day with a massive bill for damage to a rim that I don't recall causing. This is beyond tacky! I have rented cars for 30 years and never in my life have been charged for or even claimed to have caused damage to a single rental car. Sadly, I see negative reviews about Sixt all over the internet and should have done better homework before giving them a try. Rest-assured, I will never use them again and will share my experience as broadly as possible. Will also file a claim with the BBB and post reviews on other sites. What a shame that you use "AI" as a profit center. As a final note, on my rental agreement, Sixt notes the following unrepaired damage to the car. Why decide to repair what appears to be insignificant scratches on a rim when none of the damage below has been repaired. It was torrential raining and when I was finishing up the paperwork, an employee ran the keys into the office. I was given the keys and told I am all set. Did anyone from SIXT come out with me, nope. I have rented from Sixt twice the first experience was perfect no problems at all. However, the second time I rented from them 2 days after the rental was returned I received and email and was told there was Damage (number 9072623210/88) on the wheel area. I immediately called and said there was no damage when I dropped the vehicle off or I would have said something. The Sixt gentleman walked around the car with me and said all good and I left. IF there was damaged he would have pointed it out right "NOPE" per Sixt claims agent they don't want conflict with the customer so they only check it in and then the claims dept will email you. WHAT so how do I know there is any truth to what is stated after I left. WHY not just say it at the time when it is dropped off so the customer is aware. Crazy!! I have been renting cars for 30 years now and NEVER had an issue ever. The damage they claim I did is only $663.00 but I didn't cause it so I am not paying it. I was told I should have taken an image of the car when it was dropped off..WAIT why would i do that is there is no damage?? Why because this is what happens if you don't. I went through Expedia to rent car from Sixt at the Charlotte Douglas Airport. It was pre-charged rental. When we arrived from our flight, I arrived to the Sixt desk to check out the rental. He took my drivers license info, my credit card and I did the electronic signatures. He said I was ready and that I just had to go up to the garage to pick up my car and it will be waiting for me. I thanked him and told him that I'd go up to get it. I wanted to check in before they closed so my husband went to the luggage carousel to get our bags. I waited for him so that he knew where to pick up the rental. I noticed a Sixt employee (maybe the manager) coming down escalator with a large metal box (going into back office) then I saw the employee that processed me leave. He saw me waiting and didn't say anything to me or to the man with the metal box, about making sure I get my key. I decided I should go to the garage to make sure my car was still available. I bumped into another employee who told me that their garage was closed and that I was too late to get a rental. I told her I already checked a car out. She said I doubt you'll be able to get it. I went up to their lot and went to the car that fit the description of my rental. It opened but with no key. I went to a few other cars in their area and all were locked. So to my anger and frustration, there was no key left for us and everyone went home without leaving me a way to take the vehicle. I called the Sixt customer service and she told me that I didn't get charged through Sixt. She said she would leave a message and someone would contact me. I contacted Expedia and they said that they will need to request refund through Sixt. I received a call from a Sixt manager the next day apologizing for what happened and stated he would make sure we would get a refund. He also said he would talk to the employees to coach them about the situation. I followed up with Expedia and they said that they were still waiting for Sixt to return the message. I just received an email from Expedia stating that Sixt has a strict no refund policy therefore I would not be granted one! Basically, I paid for a rental I never received keys for and had to rent from Budget Rental (who was fortunately open) because Sixt never left me my key. Then I get an apologetic call from a manager who lied telling me they would ensure I get a refund!! How do they not refund me when they did not leave me with the key to the rental??!!! Recently rented a BMW here and the experience was fantastic. Customer service was a bit slow, but just arrive early to make sure you leave on time. The car was decently maintained (they could have removed the grease stains from the light colored interior that maintenance clearly left behind), otherwise it was beautifully kept and great fun to drive. I definitely recommend renting here. I do wish they offered more locations though as it's difficult to rent a nice vehicle through other rental car companies. read more

If I could give a 0 I would. Rented car in unlight garage--so couldn't see the tiny chip in windshield that was a foot taller than me until after I left and was under streetlights. My flight was canceled, and so we had to fly out of Tampa instead, so we had the rental moved to there, so we thought no email for confirmation from them. We needed to make sure we had a car waiting. So we booked somewhere else and they won't refund our money. So never book with them or through expedia with them. read more
