They allow customers to reserve cars online even take payment on the insurance on the vehicle, check in and pay then dont allow you to use your debit card. Then dude at the counter is rude when I asked him to send a ticket to have this changed that I took a $63.00 Uber he says oh well. We had a 12 passenger van reserved for over three months we arrived on Friday, July 10th to pickup at 6:00 PM to find there was NO VAN AVAILABLE. We were leaving the next morning for a first time family of ten cruise. We tried the other rental companies and they had vans but they were for other customers. This caused us to drive two personal vehicles along with gas for both an additional parking space which was an additional $40 over the first reservation because it was the night before. I have NEVER been so disappointed and upset with a rental company in my life. I have used Budget on several other occasions and never had an issue. Their lack of concern was very frustrating and they didn't offer to resolve the problem only that Cleveland may have one but never offered a phone number or to call. I will never use BUDGET OR AVIS AGAIN!! This was totally unexecptable, especially since we reserved three months in advance. We were also told later that these companies do this because you reserve it at a lower cost and they can get a lot more money for it at the time of pickup so they don't fulfill your reservation. My flight was delayed from Washington DC, I called ahead to let them know the flight was delayed and the person on the phone said no problem I will note your file and they will reference it with your flight number and everything will be fine. When I arrive the place is closed and there's no human in sight. It wasn't like we got here in the middle the night we got here at 10:30. The worst thing is if they had told me they would be closed I would have just made alternate arrangements but now we are literally stranded in the airport with no way to get anywhere. I called the one 800 number for Budget and I was on hold for 31 minutes and when they finally picked up the guy said well I guess you need to come back tomorrow and hung up. I hate to even give Budget 1 star. I made a reservation for a car. Received a confirmation. Went to pick up the car and was told that they did not have any cars...."sorry". So I called their customer service. After being "disconnected" twice...told that a CONFIRMED RESERVATION is NOT a guarantee that they will have a car available and is "at best 50/50"... I FINALLY got a customer service rep...first of all...she answered the phone AVIS...umm this was Budget. I verified that I had the correct department. She offered me a $50 coupon to use on my next rental with them...and said that I could make another reservation to pick up the next day...but she could not help with that OR confirm that a car would actually be available. Now I am left having to miss a day of work to deal with getting a rental car. She stated that they will reimburse the difference if I rent from another rental company and will reimburse my Uber ride to get to the rental company but that will take 3 to 5 business days AFTER the rental is completed. So...I have to deal with all the hassle and inconvenience. Oh and that $50 coupon I was promised...yeah, it's actually only $40. If Budget is an option for you...don't do it! I had a reservation through priceline with Budget Car Rental at the Akron, OH airport. I was told a debit would be sufficient to pay but I would have to have an additional 200 hold on my card which I stated was not a problem. After several minutes I was told my card was not accepted by Avis/Budget. Not that it was declined just not accepted. Then I was told I would have to have a credit check ran in order to rent the car. I had never heard of that before but I was in a desperate situation. After several more minutes I was told again the company did not accept my card. When I notified my bank , the bank stated no transactions had been performed on my card. This transaction was a horrible experience that left me stranded at the airport. I was fortunate enough to call a relative to send me an uber. Never again!! read more

I have never had a worse experience renting a car. I have been lied to over and over and over again by employees of Budget. When I dropped off the car they charged the wrong card, even though I watched the employee swipe the appropriate card. I was told twice they would fix this only to find out two weeks later that there was no way they could have ever switched it to the right card as a company policy. I was lied to over and over again by multiple employees, it was clear that no one cares about their errors and they will do nothing to fix the problem. They also lied about the GPS being free and charged me for it, what a low thing to do. From what I can tell from talking to about 8 or 9 difference employees of Budge at several different locations, there is a company-wide policy that dishonesty is acceptable. I expect bad service these days but my goodness I could have never fathomed that a business that functions this poorly still is in business. Avoid this place like the plague!! Budget Car Rental could be the perfect example of poor customer service. I called to make a reservation and verify the specific vehicle I wanted would be available. I was transferred to a national call center. The national call center has and automatic system that requires you to answer questions about your potential rental. This means you are talking to computer and not a real person, with no option to talk to a real person. One of the prompts asked if this was for a car or truck. I would have to speak "car" or "truck" to the recorded voice. My call was to find out if a van was available. I would consider a van to be neither a car nor a truck. So I said car. When I finally get a live person they are trained for sales. This means after I get the information I was researching, I am bombarded with "before I let you go let me tell you about our special offers". Even after several 'no thank you's they continued to fire off special deals. I ended up hanging up on them. I will be shopping around and will be willing to pay more if my customer experience is better with another car rental company read more

When I picked up my car I was given the keys like they were handing off a football and when I get my bill I found they charged me full coverage insurance although I already had insurance on my reservation from AARP. It seems like they are just looking to meet sales goals by any means necessary, even if that means cheating the customers. So I was slapped with an extra $120 for a 2-day rental that only costs $106. i have used Budget/Avis at the Akron Canton airport nearly once a month and sometimes more for nine years, putting up with the occasional slow service because of the price. No more. I rented a Ford Focus there in late February. The car was totaled by a drunk driver, who was cited for that and other things. The entire front end was either twisted into a pretzel or completely sheered off. He r insurance -- may i recommend Nationwide? -- called me and Budget within 24 hours, saying they would pay everything, given that i was a victim and their policy holder was completely at fault.. Despite that, a week later, Budget charged my checking account -- i had used a debit card to rent -- more than $500 for what had been a $65 rental for a weekend trip to help my 89-year-old mother who was in the hospital. (i was on my way from the hospital when i got hit.) Budget's explanation for almost all of that charge: The car had been returned to a different location than it had been picked up. No S**t Sherlock. It was a bad accident, airbags, the works --I iwas lucky. The car was beyond un-driveable. it was crumpled What parts of the front end that weren't sheared off, were twisted beyond belief. It was towed. I called Budget and got referred to billing. Billing said i had to call claims. I called claims. A couple of days later, claims called back and said i had to talk to billing. Nationwide, which seems to be a class act, tried to intervene to get the charges removed and got nowhere. The company asked that the charge be sent to them for reimbursement to me and we'll see. My humble opinion is that NOBODY, including Nationwide and by extension its policy holders, should have to pay for returning a car to a different location in those circumstances. The whole thing seems greedy, ridiculous and opportunistic to me. Anyways, this will not in the end cost me. But I'm disgusted with the company's behavior. I found them very helpful. I had no problems. Maybe they are doing better since getting a couple of poor reviews. They were the best price of all the car rental companies. I booked thru AutoRentals.com and I needed the CDW (since my own car does not have collision insurance) and was able to get that much cheaper thru RoamRight at the time of renting on the sight, although the coverage may not be as good as getting it directly from Budget. I reserved & pre-paid for a rental out of the Akron Canton airport. Because my flight arrived after the closing time I called before reserving the vehicle to inquire as to whether they would stay to give me the rental; I was assured they would and they put my flight information into the system. I know this was done because when I called on the day of the reservation to again confirm someone would be at the counter to assist me my flight information was repeated to me. Upon my arrival at the airport, at midnight, there was a sign on the budget counter saying go to the Avis counter. There was no one at the Avis counter & the girl at the neighboring desk said "he left". When she messaged him he said there was no flight information in the system. When I called the next day to lodge a complaint I was told someone from corporate would contact me. With it being the holiday I didn't realize no one did until the following Tuesday. When I spoke to a customer representative I was told that she wasn't sure why someone would tell me they would follow up because the counter closed prior to my flight arrival time. I replied maybe because they thought Budget cared about such a poor show of customer service & would be interested in attempting to right the wrong. Clearly I was wrong.
