Unbelievably poor experience. I have finally decided that it is not worth my sanity to continue disputing the charges that I prepaid in March. When I arrived at CAK airport on 4/26/2026, I was told there were no vehicles available. I had to inconvenience someone to come pick me up, and take me back to the airport the following day, as my extended trip was dependent on my rental car. When I returned the following day, I was told that one car just became available and that I was lucky to get it. Really?!? I had already pre-paid a month before. So I accepted the car, a day late, because of their inefficiency and excuses about hail in another part of Ohio. The car had just come in, was run through a quick car wash, and they gave me the keys. As I stated, I was desperate for a vehicle, but I was never comfortable with it after I saw the lack of care. I called Hertz and only asked for a refund for the single day that I lost. Approved on the phone, but denied in the end, when I disputed the charges. Lesson learned. No more Hertz at CAK airport. read more

I prepaid for a rental pickup at CAK Hertz on 12/18 at 5:30pm. Our plane was late and we landed at 6:15 and when I got to Hertz counter there was no one there and counter closed at 6pm which I knew. No automated email and Hertz didn't leave keys with other agency or partner for late pickup. I picked up car 12/19 and they wouldnt price adjust for lost rental day. They did offer an upgraded car class which is expected as a Gold Member. I confirmed the car could be returned on 12/25 and keys left in drop box. I drove car, it snowed and no windshield brush provided. I returned the car early on 12/25 and dropped keys in lock box. On 12/26 I start receiving pending daily charges on my credit card. I started calling Hertz CAK daily starting 12/27 (multiple calls a day) and after navigating their complex phone tree to get their local line to ring there was no answer and no ability to leave a message. On 12/30 I receive a text message from Hertz Overdue Dept saying my rental is past due. I called Hertz back spoke with a live agent who indicated they would contact Hertz CAK and I would get a receipt within 24 hrs. Meanwhile, daily pending extended day rental charges continue to post to my credit card and no receipt received. My final call to Hertz CAK on 1/2 resulted in closure of my rental and I finally received my receipt. They apologized for the delay and said it was due to the holidays. If you can't staff a rental counter during the busiest travel days of the year then you have no business being open. At minimum, I am due at least one day rental rate for not being able to pickup car on day requested. Be aware of CAKs limitations before renting: 1.You have no gold canopy service, 2. they close early 6pm and 3. you have no ability to make reservation for a Saturday return (which is odd). This was the worse location experience I have had with Hertz and first and last time I prepay. read more

I returned a vehicle here - that I picked up from Hertz at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Not ever having been to Akron-Canto Airport before - I had no idea what to expect in terms of rental car return. Turns out the rental car return parking lot is right in front of the main terminal. I followed the Herz signs and pulled up. The Hertz agent was sitting in an idling vehicle staying warm (it was about 9 degrees out - and even colder with the wind chill). So I was glad to see that Hertz does not make their agents stand outside in the cold just waiting for folks! He checked out my vehicle, then scribbled some info on a piece of paper, and instructed me to take inside to the Hertz counter inside the Terminal. Which I did. I had to walk about 100 yards to get inside the terminal - it was a short walk - but that morning it seemed like it took forever - dragging two roller bags along with being as cold out as it was - and wishing for some thermal long johns! I did not have to wait long - there were two Hertz agents working the counter, and two customers in front of me in line. At first the agent could not find me in the system, I mentioned that I picked up the car at a different airport - that made all the difference - she was able to immediately find me and process my return. Car Rental I use this Hertz location when out in the Akron area and never an issues. Cars are always clean and available. Being a regional airport, they are not manned at the desk 24/7 but the drop box is convenient. About the only thing they could do a little better is mark the returning car area better after hours - I tend to just put it anywhere and write it on the drop sheet. All in all a good choice if you need a rental vehicle. read more

CROOKS! Don't go here. Dropped my rental off in Orlando Florida and they charged me for not filling up the gas tank. In a dispute currently over this as I have proof of being at a gas station and 3 witnesses. I bet they do this to every rental and most people probably don't pay attention. The Lot attendant was very nice and helpful and that was the only positive thing about my experience. Asked about renting their manager's special. They told me via phone they try not to put President's Circle members into compact cars. When I arrived they put me in a Versa with 40k miles that smelled like smoke and was just beat up. Carl is always very professional, friendly, and super efficient. The older gentleman that takes care of the car returns outside is also very nice. We are Gold level 30 weeks per year business travellers! Needed to replace an Infinity Q SUV from a DC rental at Akron Canton Airport! It's a corporate location, not a franchise. She said you're not a rental here, I don't consider you my customer. Take it up with DC location. We were downgraded to small SUV even though there were 10 better SUV's in lot. Because you didn't rent here, I'm not offering you the exchange courtesy as if you had! What pathetic language is that coming from a supervisor on a holiday morning, to a customer who had to drive 100 miles out of the way to exchange a vehicle due to Hertz lack of maintenence! I had Reserved a car for Thursday pickup with gps as I am unfamiliar with the area and upon my arrival they had none. Good thing my phone worked so I could get to my family members house. They offered to give me a sub or a van but at a cost. Given opportunity to exchange on Saturday and did when I picked up my husband. Interesting that they offered to upgrade me for more$$$ but didn't offer a discount for not having what I had reserved. Probably won't be using Hertz again even though I get a AAA discount. read more

Great service from the desk attendant Zachary, who was beyond helpful during the many return visits we made to extend the car rental. Zachary was working with another gentleman, can't remember his name, but he was also very helpful and friendly. They both deserve delivered superb customer service. The rental car was clean and new. Zero Stars. I flew to Akron to visit family, this was my first car rental experience. I walked up to the counter & had to deal w the most horrible customer service ever. Especially Marsha who is very Loud & Rude! After going through her spill about insurance, gas, & fees, she needed to swipe a card for a $200 hold, I handed her my card, & she said very Loudly CARD DECLINED! It couldn't have been anymore embarrassing given the fact the line behind me was all starring at me & she kept saying MAAM ANOTHER FORM OF PAYMENT, I was in shock, wanted to cry, usually in such matters you would think she would have whispered something to me, not tried to embarrass me. I told her I needed a minute & I stepped away. After calling my bank, they informed me they declined my charge bc it was out of state & they were trying to protect me. Which is appreciated. I went back to the counter & finally got a car, which was dirty inside & out, ugh Returning the car was a joke as well, my flight was at 9am & they don't open till 10am. If I could give 0 stars, I would. This location has to be one of the worst available in the country. No sense of understanding mistakes and making it up to the customer. Every time I had to speak to someone here, something goes wrong. I've rented multiple times at this location thinking that they would get better. All hope is lost. Rented a minivan for a weekend trip. It was a pleasure to do business with Hertz: Fast, friendly, good value.

I am a Platinum member and have been renting from Hertz for over 17 years. Recently I had a problem with a car where the rear passenger window was stuck in the down position. This was an annoying issue and although the car worked fine, the window would let air in and make it unfortable. Upon return I was short on time however I mentioned the issue to the lady who was giving me a ride back to the terminal. To my amazement the manager called me the next day and apologized for the issue and refunded the whole rental amount , while also adding points to my account to accommodate any future rentals. This kind of response goes a long way and is the reason why Hertz is a great rental company. read more

I travel for work almost every week and have had the misfortune to have to travel to Cleveland for the past year. This is by far, one of the worst Hertz rental locations I have encountered in my 20+ years of travel for business. Unless you arrive Monday morning, the chances of them having a car ready for you is only 10% at best,. This past week I arrived on a Tuesday afternoon and my car was not ready even though I am President's Circle. Several Gold members were in the office also waiting for cars. We were told that as soon as cars were serviced, they would be brought out and made available. Now what is wrong with this? Hertz Cleveland has visibility into existing inventory, demand and expected returns. If they see that the demand at a certain time does not meet their needs they need to get more inventory in advance of the peak times in order to fulfill reservations promised. If they cannot meet the need, then do not accept the reservation.l The whole shuttle thing at CLE is very, very inconvenient but that is not Hertz's problem. I flew into Akron for several months last year and that Hertz experience was one of the most pleasant I have ever encountered. Hertz Cleveland Hopkins Airport needs to step up it's game or else I will rent from another provider. read more

Convenient location when flying through CLE. Staff/attendants are friendly and helpful. I usually receive a full-size car as indicated in my preferences. Each car I have rented through this location has been clean and in good shape. Pick up and drop off is quick. And, there has always been an airport shuttle available with no wait time. Worst Hertz setup ever. Why no fast process for #1 gold? 1-2 people with messed up reservations causing a huge backlog. Took all the speed out of flying into CAK and killed it all. p.s. Then when I get to the counter the slowest process ever. Usually takes 1 sec to hand my keys. Why so slow? Assigning cars real time? p.p.s.s. The Hertz Employees here are the nicest and friendliest. I have used this Hertz at least a dozen times and never once had any problem other than a long wait. This is an airport so I guess that just comes with with the territory but compared to other airports it has not been that bad. It is a small counter usually with 2 staff members this probably adds to the wait times. I've never had an issue with customer service or my car being ready. I do always make a reservation so perhaps that is the reason? I do wish they had the option of going directly to your car in the lot like some of the large airports but maybe as CAK grows that will become an option! read more

I have rented cars from Hertz for over 25 years. Hertz Cleveland continues to provide me with the worst experiences that I have ever had concerning rental cars. The biggest issue that I have is that they charge for fuel whenever I leave the car and ask them to email me the receipt, even if I leave the rental agreement with the details of my fuel purchase and the words "Do not charge me for fuel!". When asking about the charges, on site, they told me that they had to charge for fuel if I drove less than 75 miles no matter what I said about fueling the vehicle. That has never proven out because my mileage has always been more than 75 miles! Can they spell FRAUD. Long story short, I have had to call Hertz national multiple times to get my fuel charges refunded. Other issues have to do with cars being available, my name not on the board or not getting notified of my rental ready before I show up. read more

The van I rented was dirty. My original reservation was not honored and the attendant tried to satisfy my request. I waited two hours for a requested vehicle and they brought in a Town and Country van, I requested a Toyota Senna. The van I was given was dirty and full of debris. I immediately complained to the lot attendant and he told me to call the customer service department with the complaint. I did and was told that I would be compensation $50 credit for my trouble and inconvenience upon return of the van. When I returned, the desk clerk said she could only give me a $50 voucher for my next rental. I only wanted credit on my current return. I was so disappointed and felt like a number instead of a customer. read more

My most recent experiences have been in Detroit and Cleveland. Detroit was always a mess getting into and out of the lot. Whenever I picked up a car, the lines to the exit were crazy with only 2 lines open most of the time. The average wait time to get through was over 20 minutes. Dropping off in Detroit wasn't much better. Luckily I am a Gold member so I didn't have to wait around for someone to check me out, but the wait time for the shuttle to the airport was again, at least 20 minutes each time. Oh, for an extra fee they would provide a faster shuttle. Hmmm The good thing about Cleveland is that they have an RAC and the shuttle service is actually quite good as there are plenty of shuttles going both ways and rarely has the wait been over 5 minutes, ever. The problem I have experienced is several times now, when I go to pickup, they haven't had any cars ready. Just the other day, I had to wait nearly 45 minutes for a car to be readied. There were at least 30 people ahead of me who had the same experience. Not sure what is going on. I will say, that I have never had a bad experience with one of Hertz employees. I have always been treated very well and they are very professional even during those times of crisis. read more

Hertz employees saw my husband be denied a vehicle by another company even though he had a reservation (they don't recognize military extension DL even with insurance). He needed a vehicle to attend his mothers funeral and Hertz was able to accommodate him with no reservation he just had to pay the SUV price. read more

Horrid customer service. They are NOT up front with their cost and credit card policies. I had a reservation for 2 weeks and when I got their the SUV was LEAKING FLUIDS!! Enterprise maybe a little more pricey but they are 100x better... We left Hertz.. Enterprise came and picked us up and we got a better car and a better deal!!!! read more

I am Hertz Gold and I travel to Cleveland every other month. Each of the past 4 or 5 visits my car was not ready as they ran out of cars. Once they put me in a Transit van because that is all they had available. Really need to do something about vehicle availability. read more
