In April of last yeary fiance and I bought a car from Budget Motors. Less than six months later it started breaking down on a regular basis, every month it seemed, if not sooner. After owning the car for nearly 18 months it has been in the shop more than 10 times and has const us more than $8,000 in repairs,.nearly 4/5 what we spent to buy the car. I've called this place out for selling me a lemon elsewhere, and they say that repairs happen with used cars, but I have literally never, though owning multiple cars, had a car break down this much or this soon. It has been one thing after another breaking on this thing since months into owning it, like they patched it up just enough to get it out the door and then foisted it off on some unsuspecting victims. I wouldn't wish this place on my worst enemies. Beware and stay away. Far far away. read more

Why is this place named Budget? There's nothing in this lot that is within any reasonable budget. Cars that I personally looked into were way overpriced for the amount of miles and condition. Was scheduled for test drives for 3 vehicles for Sunday morning. arrived at 10am when they opened and they were closed. Decided to wait and see if anyone showed up while we scrolled other dealerships. At 10:25, a worker finally opened the driveway so we decided to walk in. I said" your website says you open at 10", he says " we do." Me, clearly confused, he then adds" we were just running a little late today". I tell him I'm scheduled for a test drive for a car but I don't see it on the lot. He asks which one then says it sold on Friday. Fine- I didn't expect a hold on it, but a courtesy notification would have been nice. Knows nothing about the other 2 cars I'm interested in. Tells us to go browse, lets us have keys to see inside other vehicles, then tells us to come get him if we want to test drive anything. None of the 3 cars we started even sounded good. Such a blah experience. Worker never even came outside. Honestly, if he would have put one shred of effort into selling a car, I could have probably been easily persuaded into a higher priced one than the one I had initially come to look at. read more

I just got a car from here a month ago. It started leaking oil pretty bad. So I called and they sent me somewhere to get it checked out, I did purchase the warranty which did not cover the damage. It will run me about $1100 to get it fixed. I don't think it's fair how they sell you vehicles that start to break down a month later. Huge let down! read more

Ok. I was there Monday October 9th after my son borrowed my jeep ( that I had drove since 1992 ) Well unfortunately someone didnt see a stop sign and my son hit him. So mother (jeep) gone. I needed a vehicle now. The first place my boys and brother went to that was recommended was Budget. Not lot knowing where I stood cuz it my first time buying. Do not buy from here. I'd give it a zero rating but it won't allow me. Within 1 hour of purchase of the car had a differential leak all over driveway and was found to be missing necessary bolts. The skid plate was held on by zip ties. The oil had not been changed in 11000 miles. The finance manager, Ricardo tried to blame it on us. NOT POSSIBLE!! GM/Owner refused to speak with us because we supposedly hurt Ricardo's feelings. After 14k lemon, and being blamed for it, id say we had a right to be upset. Purchased a Tundra from Budget Motors in September 2022. Was told at the time they could not put new tires on before I drove it home because it was a weekend and their shop was closed. The tires were bald and the truck needed an alignment. He said they would take care of tires on a weekday if I came back in. I tried getting a hold of someone for months - finally got a call back from Simon and he told me that Jason (the salesman who sold me the truck) no longer worked there. We went back and forth for two weeks as he told me the best deal he could give me was selling me a set of tires "at their cost" for $1330 and I would have to take the tires to a shop and pay additional fees to have them mounted and balanced. I had to park the truck because the tires were showing wire. My mom ended up calling in because she was irate that they screwed me over on my first vehicle purchase. This pissed the owner (Simon) off and he continued to belittle me over the phone asking how old I was and then stating "after 18 you are no longer a child". The local tire shop was not surprised with what I went through at Budget Motors after Simon did the same thing to many of their customers. Budget Motors - So excited about my purchase today - Car Dealers Near Me - Reno, Nevada

Well I guess I have to change my review. I had since sold my Equinox in favor of something more affordable for me. We looked around but returned to Budget Motors because we had such a great experience before. Ron Rems was again our salesman as we requested. We ended up loving a VW CC they had. The price was listed a couple thousand above normal dealer blue book, and they ended up letting it go for $9500. The finance manager got us a really good APR and was able to bring our payment down where I could afford it. (Keep reading there is a reason for the one star review). This one star review is not about the sale, or even a vehicle, but is about a fee called an ETCH fee that is tacked on without your consent before paperwork is even signed. Basically it's numbers etched in the glass of the vehicle that supposedly helps if you car is ever stolen. This fee is $300. It costs about $20. It is never discussed with you and it is already factored in to your loan before you even sign paperwork. There is paperwork that goes with it that you sign, however, they do not mention it is a "policy" of theirs or that they are tacking on an extra $300. Yes, we signed a piece of paper, but thought it was just part of the regular paperwork, as we had previously purchased a car from them and never had such a fee. I called a few days later after seeing this added fee. The person we spoke too was very rude. He tried to use the explanation that are you not going to buy a hamburger at McDonald's because it only cost them pennies and they are trying to make a profit? I said, if I ORDERED a burger then I KNEW what I was buying. I didn't "order" this etch fee that I had to pay. It wasn't something I wanted. He told me he didn't have time "for this" and we hung up. My boyfriend and I decided to make a visit to the dealership and speak to someone in person. I recorded all conversations. The finance manager told me it was purely for profit, and that since they "gave me such a good deal" on the car I shouldn't complain about it. I said so if you hadn't of given me a "good deal" then you wouldn't have charged me the fee? And he said "uh.. no". So regardless, this fee would be charged. He directed us to the owner who acted like he didn't know what we were talking about (played dumb) so we would have to explain it all over again. He said, well you are adults and you signed the paperwork. And I said it didn't matter, we were unaware of this ETCH fee to begin with so didn't know to even LOOK for any extra fee we were charged. He side stepped every question we asked. This conversation is also recorded. At the end he said he needed to talk to the loan agent who helped fund the loan at the bank, which didn't make sense because the loan was already funded and the bank had nothing to do with it anymore. We went to the bank and the loan officer told us the same thing, that since the funds were released, the dealership would have to refund me directly. A day or two later recieved a promising email that the "owner" was working on it. A few days later they agreed to refund me $270, only to retract it the same day saying basically I spread slander and untruths. Which is completely not true. So now here I am warning ANYONE if you buy a vehicle from this dealership, tell them from the very beginning you do NOT want and etch. Look over your paperwork, it's a pink piece of paper they have you sign. Also, if ANYONE HAS bought a car from this dealership and were unknowingly charged an etch fee (regardless of the paperwork signed) please contact me. We have a friend who is a finance manager at another dealership and has been doing this for years and says the etch fee is a SCAM and just a way to tack on extra money to a vehicle. I'm sure Simon will have some sort of response to this, as he seems to respond to all negative reviews with some sort of excuse to their behavior. As an interesting side note, Ron, our salesman, no longer works at Budget Motors and quit only a few days after we purchased our vehicle from him. Even he agreed the etch fee was unnecessary and bad business practice. read more

Possible buyers - be aware of this dealer! Make sure you double check the vehicle after signing papers( even if you just test drove it) - make sure you know what the listing price is - they try to push a different price from what they list online. I attached pictures of what I test-drove and then the inside when I got the truck (my fault - it was dark when I left after signing). Their customer service from Sandy is horrible. And the manager that replies to comments on here is really snotty with customers. read more

Budget selling cars with multiple accidents and they're overpriced. Do not shop there.

I was looking for a lifted 4x4 Silverado with leather and I could not find one anywhere with a reasonable price. With this shortage there were not many around, but I saw one at Budget Motors that had a Bilstein lift, with really nice after market rims and 35inch brand new tires. Honestly, it was the truck of my dreams, so I knew immediately I wanted it, but the problem usually is my credit. However, they apparently have access to much better banks because the interest rate that I got approved at was much lower than I expected so I took the deal right away. I really appreciate these guys going the extra mile. Shout out to Simon for taking care of everything and they even gave me some extras to add on the truck. I'll definitely recommend this place in the future to anyone. read more

The owner and the employees of budget motors Reno are morally wrong!!! Big scam artist and do not care about their customers. Nolan, Sandy, and the owner has no desire to listen or own up to their mistakes, along with communicate the right contract to their costumers Our time with them started out great, we came up to look at a truck from the Bay Area (ca), they were helpful, and put us at ease. Of course, they are salesman and that's their job. When we went to go look at prices for this truck they came to us with a price with taxes, fees, etc. the price came out to be $28, 916.25. We knew Kelly blue book had a different pricing on what they had the truck at. So we asked them to come down in pricing to match kbb. THIS IS WHEN SANDY CAME BACK WITH A CHANGED PIECE OF PAPER AND THE PRICE WAS DROPED TO $26, 711. Thus, seeing the number drop in the total we thought they did what was asked. Instead, sandy and the owners pulled a fast one and just deleted the taxes off of the pricing. WHY WOULD YOU COME BACK WITH A DROPPED PRICE WHEN ALL YOU DID WAS TAKE OUT THE TAXES?? To try and pull a fast one, which they got away with. I am still going to have to pay these taxes when I register the vehicle. Unfortunately, they were able to pull this on their customers (me) because we signed the contract and came back two days later to pick up the truck and this is when I noticed that the taxes where not paid for. It's a shame that they can go home and sleep at night knowing what they did to their customers. I hope seeing this post they won't be able to pull something like this on you. The worst part about it is that they did not own up to this mistake or understand where we were coming from and that their was a complete miscommunication. Their business antics are not up to standard and need to change the way the treat their customers. THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD ALWAYS CHARGE YOU TAXES FROM WHERE YOU LIVE. I needed to update, and unfortunately had to knock it down to 1 star, I wish I could go lower. Here's the thing, Simon; I don't appreciate your response on Google "we would have loved to help you out with the problems you had with your car post-sale, but you did not inform us". I did inform you about the battery. But getting ahold of you, let alone getting you or Edie to return a phone call, is impossible. We purchased our vehicle on Nov 3rd. On January 13th we received a letter from our bank that they had not received the title for our car yet.... 9 weeks later. I called Simon on the 14th, to ask what was going on and why it was taking so long. I left a message with Jose and asked him to please have Simon call me back. By Friday the 18th, I still had not received a call back, so I called again. I was finally able to get ahold of Simon, and he said he was unable to answer my question because he didn't have access, and his "Title Lady" would need to call me back, and Monday would be the earliest. 3 WEEKS later, still no call. My bank told me it might work itself out and to wait for another letter from them. I received another letter so decided to call again on February 8th at 8:53am, again left a message for Simon. By 4pm, I still did not have a call back, so I called again. The guy I talked to said Simon was unavailable (big surprise), so I asked for the Title Lady, Edie. Well, she only works MWF from 10-2, so she was already gone. I responded with "okay that's fine, I will be down Monday between 10-2 to get this figured out." The guy said "Edie is just really busy, sorry about that". I would assume as much, since she only works 12 hours a week? Not 5 minutes later, I receive a call from Loraine, which was confusing because as soon as I answered she said "oh I'm sorry, I was really confused, the message that was given to me was that (my bank) called her, not the person who purchased. What, that doesn't even make sense?? She also said the title paperwork was submitted on Jan 25th, I responded with "when I talked to Simon on Jan 18th, he said the title paperwork had already been submitted", but she didn't have an answer for me since she ALSO didn't have access to that information. I called my bank again, and they said they had just received the title electronically on February 7th just before midnight. Please explain to me how it takes over 90 days to submit title paperwork when, legally, you must submit it within 30 days?! Perhaps it's because the person you have in that job only works 12 hours a week. Absolutely will NOT ever buy here again. I've also told and will continue to tell others to purchase elsewhere. In the beginning I DID have a great experience with them. As my tip stated, they gave me top dollar for my trade. I brought my girl friend and her husband in to have my back if they tried to hassle me with typical used car salesmen tactics. I've bought a few cars in my time so I was pretty aware. I traded my 2011 Jetta 2.5 SE in for a 2006 Jeep Commander. They gave me 11000 for my car so I only had to finance under 6 grand which made my payments out to be 221 a month. As my friend, Amberle L's (un recommended) review states, they even filled up my gas tank and gave her $100. Personally I think it's because he had a thing for her because I found the jeep, I brought them there, and I made the decision. However, that's neither here nor there. Here's where things go a little screwy: Typically with all car deals there is a ton of paperwork to sign. Not the case here. I was done signing paperwork within 5 mins. They have called me numerous times haggling me to take care of this and that, provide this and that. 1) It's very annoying 2) It stresses me out becuase I have an extremely busy schedule 3) TYPICALLY once the sale is done I've never heard from the dealer again... The jeep is also already needing to be serviced, an expensive part which despite being an as is deal, the owner agreed to install free as long as I buy the part, (so kuddos there) and it is also desperately in need of an alignment. (I would have known this if the test drive route the dealer took me on would have let me take the Jeep over 65.) So here's the wrap up: would I recommend? I should have went with my gut instinct when I bought my car, but I ignored it in favor of a "good deal" on a BMW. It was also my first car purchase on my own credit, I admit I was at fault on a few levels in purchasing from this dealership. However, I brought in my car for a trade-in and before even looking at my car they were offering me money for it and trying to get me into something else. They really wanted me in and out, which I should have paid attention to. The car seemed to drive well (again, I should have run it by my own mechanic first) and the down payments and monthly's were right up my alley. I took out a loan on the car and thus began my nightmare. The check engine light was on when sold and I was told it was something they would be able to fix for me before my next smog check (again, I should not have trusted them on their word.) However, after bringing my car into a qualified BMW mechanic it turned out the car was a lemon. I sunk over $2500 into this vehicle within a 6 month period (the total loan was worth about $7000). I kept repairing it and it just kept breaking down. I had to cut my losses and go over to the good people of Lithia Volkswagon, they helped me to get into a leased car and sucked up $4000 of negative equity from my BMW. Had I not lucked out with Lithia I would have gone into debt and most likely had my car repo'd with the next repair. In the long run, I would have saved a lot of money, stress, and frustration if I had just leased from a dealership in the first place. As a matter of fact, the day after I gave my car and loan to Lithia, I took my leased car back in just to have it detailed and my salesman told me that while they were working on my old BMW the power windows failed and would not roll up. It's small but it was just one problem after another. Basically, if you do shop here bring someone who knows their finances and knows their cars. This was a big lesson learned and I'll certainly know what to look for if and when I ever decide to purchase a used car again. That being said, I will never be returning to Budget Motors. Regardless, we "started the process" on a used vehicle that we wanted. I will preface this by saying that I fully understand that car dealers are in business to make a profit and have every right to do so. With that being said, with the plethora of resources available online, I expect fair prices and like most will seek them out. I also think that used car games are a waste of time. One of the sales consultants, Jacob, really was lacking in product knowledge and needs to learn about professional communication. A) He did not know that Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep were all part of the same company. B) He claimed that the federal government is making money from selling cars due to their ownership of Chrysler Corporation, and C) the same government controls people through cigarettes. Wow. I just wanted to buy a car and not read a conspiracy theorist's novel. I don't expect salesmen to know everything--but the connection between Chrysler/Jeep is pretty obvious. Beyond this--once we decided that we wanted to pay cash instead of attempting financing, the price of the car somehow rose again. Yes--it went down 500 from the window sticker, and then somehow back up 300 again. When you combine all of this, you get the typical small used car lot experience. Stereotypes start for a reason. Bottom line--we got a similar car--only one year newer, for 2500 less than what these gentlemen were trying to charge. I had called and spoke to the finance manager about a vehicle i had seen online and explained my pricing, budget and what i would need to be at payment wise and made it clear i would need to be at my mark before i even step foot at the lot. I was told they could make that happen and help me to finance me lower then what i was already approved for. Upon showing up everyone put me under the impression that they were going to work with me to get my into the vehicle i have chosen. Upon talking numbers i was passed off to another person instead of the person i was dealing with on the phone taking care of me and then they totally changed up on me and what they said and promised to me on the phone. They had one excuse after another despite i had all the data to back up my pricing on that vehicle and what i was willing to pay. They had lied to me and tried to way over charge me for a vehicle when i asked them not to waste my time especially after coming in from work and tried to justify the fees by having to pay for radio and tv ads which is not the customers problem to bare. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE to anyone especially any veterans because they are like every other lot around the Reno area trying to get over on a customer and take advantage of them. I get to the lot and was informed that the car wasn't there and the owner was driving it....this should've been a red flag that I paid attention to....so they would call me when the car was returned. We left. They called me a couple hours later and told me in order for me to test drive I had to let them run my credit. I was about to do it over the phone but changed my mind and drove there. The owner pulled up shortly after we pulled up. I exchanged my info and went for a test drive. My husband noticed the car was shaking at high speed on the freeway. Upon review, we all saw a bent rim on the passenger front. In short the owner offered $400 towards a new set of wheels. At some point during our interaction with Fred/Frank (the owner) and Sandy they informed us the car had two keys. So we handle all the paperwork and the owner added a note about the only thing being wrong with the car is the bent wheel and we resolved it by him giving me the check toward the new set of wheels. So My husband and I are walking out the dealership and I asked about my second key. Sandy went scrambling looking for it to come back and tell me she can't find it. The owner says no problem I have it at home and will send it to you next week. I had no reason to think I would never receive my key. A couple weeks go by and still no key. About three weeks after my purchase I called about the key. Was told sandy wasn't in and would call me back. No call back. I called again about the key. This time I spoke to sandy and she apologized and was going to mail it the next day. A week later still no key. I call again and was transferred to someone to speak about DMV registration. She informed me that she was going to send the paperwork to DMV but no update on my key. She would leave a message for Sandy to call me. No call back. I call back a couple days later and was told the mail sent the package back to them and she would send it out the next day. Sandy was not sure sure why it was sent back. They had been having problems with the mail because of COVID. At this point I feel that I am getting the runaround as it doesn't take close to two months to mail a key from Reno to CA. I ask to speak with a manager. The manager is on the line and he blatantly asks me if I've been to DMV? I'm confused as I'm calling and asking about my key.....so the manager informs me that basically if I don't go to DMV then I may or may not receive my key. At this point I'm flabbergasted because I can't believe this is a place of business. I felt like I was in the hood. So I directly asked the manager if he was going to send my key and his response was that he didn't know, the same repose I gave him regarding me going to DMV. In my opinion It was no longer his right to ask me anything about my vehicle as it is my vehicle that I purchased from this dealership. I was already making car payments! The dealership's responsibility was to provide me with my key and at this point still no key. So I hung up on the manager. The conversation was going nowhere. A couple weeks later still no key. My husband called and spoke to the manager. It was a Sunday and the manager informed my husband that he would have to look into the situation as all the keys were locked up and he was apparently unaware of this situation and would call him back the following business day. The next business day I get a call from the lady in charge of registration processing informing me of when she sent my information to DMV. Once again I never called this business asking them anything about my DMV registration EVER. However every time I inquire about my key I'm either given the runaround or being asked about DMV. I don't understand. So I ask to speak to the manager. To summarize this conversation: I was informed by the manager that the dealership was no longer in possession of my key and the dealership would not pay for it to be replaced. This is mind boggling honestly. At this point there is no longer a reason for me to communicate with this dealership. I had asked to speak with the owner a couple times and he was never available nor called back when I left a message for him. I just wanted to inform the public of my experience with this dealership. I had high hopes and a great conversation with the owner when purchasing the vehicle. It's unfortunate that this is how it ended honestly. Buyer BEWARE and get EVERYTHING in writing. read more
