If you have a nice car and want to sell privately, Private Party Cars is an excellent way to avoid the crazies and Craigslist scammers. Jesus makes it simple and secure. My car sold in less that a week. The buyer was in the process of buying one from a dealer and happened to see mine while stopped in traffic on Mill St. The dealer wasn't happy but I was. I met the buyer in there clean and secure office. Jesus did the paperwork and made sure that the title was filled out correctly. Didn't work for us, I personally wouldn't recommend it, but maybe we just had an unlucky experience, so here goes: The Good: Jesus is very responsive and helpful, the place is clean, well appointed, and overall this seems like a really great idea for people wanting to sell their cars. They're very good about helping get everything cleared out of your vehicle and making the process safe and secure. The detailing service is inexpensive and every time I dropped by all of the cars were looking great, even after snow storms, etc. The Not-So-Good: I wish I had known that: * Reach: They do not crosspost to FB Marketplace or Craigslist by default. They agreed to do so after I asked about it. I feel like I could have easily gotten the same visibility just posting and selling it myself since the only way people can find out about your car is visiting PPC's website or visiting their lot -- in the year 2024. * Cost: I'm sure it says in the contract that the $560 lot fee is only for 6 weeks, but I somehow missed it. Thought it was a one-time fee. And the extension is another $560. I have a voicemail apparently that notified me we'd gone over the 6 weeks. Once you pay the fee, it's hard to switch to a different selling method, so I'd recommend trying to sell on your own first and seeing what kind of interest you get. Then you can make a no-cost decision about whether you should trade-in based on the response. * Price: Sold 2016 Toyota Avalon in great condition for $17,000 after roughly 11 weeks. Lithia Hyudai (where I bought the car) gave me a trade-in estimate of $16,265. Kelly Bluebook private party was $19,000 and to buy the same car from a dealership would be ~$22,500. In the whole 11 weeks I only had two low ball offers/tire kickers and a 3rd that came in at $17K. Felt like the vultures were circling. I paid PPCs over $1,300 for the parking/showing/detailing/car washing, so I seem to have lost out selling here to the tune of over $500, not to mention the hassle of this being an 11 week process instead of a quick trade-in. * Communication: I travel and there were a lot of phone calls and voice messages. I'm not easily reachable, so I'm sure that didn't help anything. However, in my industry, text messages are the standard. I basically don't listen to voicemails because, like Gina says in Brooklyn 9-9, "It's not 1994 anymore." Just seemed like a lot of overhead connecting me with the buyer's contact info, then I have to reach out myself to the potential buyer. I think they should just set it up to give out your number by default to interested parties. Maybe our experience was particularly bad since we were trying to sell a two wheel drive vehicle during multiple snow storms, and if any one of the things above were better (selling price, cost, reach, etc.) I would have felt better about the process, but as it stands it was not an experience I would recommend for reasons that do not appear specific to my experience. read more

I stopped in just to get an idea of what they would suggest I sell my car for on their lot. In the process Randal was awesome. With no pressure he assisted me with all of the information I needed. I ended up calling for a ride home so I could leave the car and start the process. The car was expertly detailed and looked great. It was on the lot for a few days and I get a call from a nice buyer. We came to an agreement on price, met at our bank, and headed back to Private Party Cars office to finish all of the rest of the paperwork. All of helpful hints about the title, bill of sale, and the fact that they did the test drive made this worth it. So easy. What a great experience. I was a little unsure at first because when I drove by and saw the lot it was after hours so nobody was there to ask about how it worked. Then a couple of months later, I needed to sell my barely used toy hauler, it was very expensive and I was wanting to get the best price I could I called spoke to Rick about the process and it seemed so easy and so worth it, my only worry was that would it move fast enough for the fee I paid. I paid $575 five or six weeks on the lot. Luckily on day two I had a buyer and we closed the deal within a week! Great news for private party cars and even better news for us! We got our asking price. If you've got something you need to sell this is a place to do it. It's right downtown on Mill Street, great location and totally worth the rental space. Positive Thoughts: The business model for selling cars is intriguing. We appreciated having an option to let them do the test drives for us. We liked having a safe place to meet with potential buyers. I like that they have implemented a new policy to prorates costs on their renewals with clients. They are super nice and do communicate almost weekly to let you know the status of people looking at and/or test driving the vehicle. When we had areas of concern, they listened and considered our position and worked at providing a solution. Creating a marketing plan and taking pictures that best displays the vehicle was great. Having someone else take care of the car preparation of detailed cleaning and maintaining it's readiness for sale was a relief. ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### But there are areas where I think they can consider improvements. Online Marketing is limited. To increase reaching and appealing to all types of buyers, consideration should be made to list on local buying sites like Craigslist, Offer Up or Facebook Marketplace. That could have saved us personal time and effort from directly listing on those sites. And ultimately our buyer found us through the Facebook Marketing app. Hours of Operation are not favorable to the "9-5" type buyer. I can appreciate being closed on Sunday and Yet, it is a Car Lot and many potential buyers shop on the weekends. Maybe lengthen the time in the evening to 7pm. Consider some hours on Sunday. The days and hours of operation did affect our final transaction with our buyer. He drove up from Carson City near the close of business on Saturday. His desire to purchase our vehicle couldn't be communicated to us until after 5pm which now meant the buyer had to return to the lot on Monday which we understood was inconvenient for him. And it delayed the transaction for us as well. If marketing was improved and the hours of operation were extended, we would consider enlisting their help again. Those two details would greatly improve the buyer experience and seller satisfaction. We believe, based on conversations with other potential buyers, that the car could have been sold sooner if buyers could have accessed the lot at other times of the day/week. Ultimately, the car sold and we got the desired result in the end. read more

This my second car I have had for sale with them. I had been very happy the first time. This time I called about picking up my vehicle since it had not sold and had been sitting there. I decided to pick it up and take it home. I paid for a period of time. They said if it needed more time to sell they would negotiate a new rate with me that would agree upon. I have been very busy and expected a call to pick up my car when my time was up since it was a prepay kind of place and I had a contract for a set amount of time. I was not prepared to give them more money. They told me if I want my car back I need to pay them $300 due to sitting there longer than my prepaid contract. Be careful people. I don't think this is proper way to do business. I will never do business with them again. read more

I took my car to the lot on 8/12 and went the bank to deposit my Cashiers Check from the sale of the vehicle on 8/24. Talk about results!! Though it costs a little more for them to do the test drives, etc., it's worth it. You don't have to be bothered with anything until a potential buyer is ready to make a legitimate offer. I agree that they could do more on the internet to post the listing. So do what I did - I spent five bucks to list it on Craigslist but directed them to Private Party Cars. Placed a vehicle for sale here and was very unhappy with the service they provided. Payed an extra fee so that I wouldn't have to be present for a customer to test drive my vehicle, and multiple times I had people call me telling me that the guys wouldn't let them test drive the vehicle for one reason or another. They said they would clean the vehicle and this never happened. The vehicle didn't sell off their lot, which is not a big deal. I didn't want to continue with them so I went and picked it up and sold the vehicle privately. After selling it I continued to receive phone calls from people interested in it. This happened for about 3 months. I called multiple times within these 3 months before they finally removed my listing from their website. I Would not recommend doing business with these guys. read more

Private Party Cars...Practically Perfect Care! We are first-time customers, and will be future returnees. Owner Rick, and Scott and the crew make selling a vehicle a pleasure. Our 2000 Jaguar S, in perfect condition, with low mileage was a one-family car. We hated to part with her, but the stable was filling up. We took her to CarMax...(you may want to get a cup of coffee). After an interminable hour of cheerful sales chat, we finally got their offer of $1200; less than half the book value (which also is not valid for older cars in exceptional condition). On a recommendation, we visited Scott, and were pleasantly surprised at his valuation of $6200! We promptly signed up. The next morning, Rick called to say that, after viewing the care, he felt the offer price was too low! At his recommendation the price was raised to $7195. The posting went up with beautiful pictures and a great write-up, and within 3 days, we had two offers. A sale price of $6500 was agreed upon. Scott facilitated all of the paperwork, and the transaction concluded with a photo of the happy buyers and sellers. It is clear why Private Party Cars has been in business for over 35 years. Sold us a 2004 clunker for almost $4k. Didn't tell us back window was being held up by a 4x4. It started shutting down and shaking while it was being driven.
