I had a really great experience with Budget and wanted to share it. I originally scheduled a 1 PM pickup for a car I rented for my wife. Later, I called to change the pickup time to 5 PM, not realizing that the location actually closes at 5. Around 5:17 PM, we still hadn't arrived. Then my wife told me the rental office had called her, asking us to come pick up the car. That's when I checked Google Maps and realized they close at 5 PM. I honestly thought we had missed our chance and that all our plans were going to fall apart. Still, I decided to try my luck and rushed over on my scooter. I arrived around 5:40 PM, and to my surprise, they were still there waiting. Manis greeted me, and when I asked, "Sorry, can I still pick up the car?" he replied, "Of course, we've been waiting for you." I felt both apologetic and truly impressed. I've been going to this Budget rental location for a couple of years now. I'd have to say, it's been an easy experience every time. The people who work here are nice. It's not a fancy place, but it gets the job done, which is picking up a rental car. Location is behind a building on El Camino. The hardest part is exiting this place. You have a major blind spot of oncoming cars. Be careful! I was able to drop off my rental after hours, using a key drop off location. So glad I was able to do that. All in all, great deals if you book early, not changing until I move away from the area. read more

Knowledgeable and kind staff. They helped me pick the best car in my category to drive to Tahoe during the big snowstorms over MLK weekend. 59 miles of Hwy 80 were shut doen on Saturday. The suv they recommended made driving in all that snow so much easier and safer (we drove up Thursday abd came Back Monday). This was my fifth time renting here during the last 5 years. We only rent to get bigger vehicles for longer road trips. It is a relatively smaller place but their selection was better than at SFO because of all the recent flight cancellations (SFO was virtually out of rental cars). There has never been a line and customer service is very fast and polite. I rent through Costco and choose this as my pick up location. Best place near Redwood City. read more

The worst experience for renting the truck in here. - 1: they agreed on the discount, so we choose them instead of other places. However, they did not apply for the discount on paper. - 2: they agreed on upgraded the tow dolly still to save us as their customer, they backed out on the upgrade after we loaded all the furniture. -3: of course, I complained. The manager first called me winning lady, and then told me: if I do not like the deal, I can NOW switch to another company. In summary, they lied everything about their promotion and discount to save you as a customer. Backed out the deal after you upload everything on the truck! Can't even tell you how disappointed I am in this location. The sole employee has recently changed, as have the hours. Until recently, they were open until 6 PM, but with the staff change, they now close at 5 PM. So, I made a reservation here, as I've done dozens of times before. I used the online system to make a 5 PM reservation -- which I've done in the past. By the way, the system won't let you book a time for closing time or after -- the online reservation still thinks this location closes at 6 PM. When I showed up, at exactly 5 PM, I saw the employee pulling out from the parking lot. He looked at me, saw me, looked away, and sped away from me. I found the door locked and no one there to rent the car from. I got home and called Budget national and was told their computer system was down, "Call back some other day." I called back two hours later and was told that I the location was closed when I showed up, so my reservation was void, and I had to rebook at 4 times the cost. I refused, and was told they were not going to honor my reservation. I'm so sad that this location, which has previously been great, has become so terrible. I can't imagine renting from the location -- a joint Avis/Budget location -- again. read more

The last name on my credit card did not match the last name on my drivers license. I explained that I got married and changed my name. The man didn't believe me! I provided for other forms of identification with my new last name. He refused to rent a car to me. Worst customer experience of my life. read more

Prepaid reservation pick up at 11Am. Dec 24th Christmas Eve. El Mercado shopping center b6c 1501 El Camino Real suite 201 Belmont, California 94002 Email I sent to an airport manager We arrived at this location at 10.45A and were told that there were no cars available. The clerk told us to call back at 11:45A to see if another car was returned, the office was going to close at 12p Christmas Eve hours. With no options until 11:45A we headed to SFO on our own account. We secured a vehicle via agreement ............. vehicle number ................ We were given a car at the prepaid rate but had to pay airport taxes. We were told that the transportation fee of $18.00 could be refunded at LAX where the car was to be dropped off. When we returned at LAX, two clerks let us know that they could not remove any fees due to the car being rented at SFO. We still want to have the fee returned because we are local and had to deal with the situation at hand, we had no intention of paying extra fees and told we had no option for a reserved vehicle. We paid airport taxes but really didn't need to if Budget had honored the reservation. This is what you may encounter at this location. I have had better luck with Enterprise and Hertz, It is called Budget for a reason. read more

So excited to take my tween & teen & their friends to Tahoe for their first trip to the snow since they were toddlers. My Jeep Grand Cherokee wasn't large enough to hold 4 kids, me & my boyfriend, our dog and all our gear....so I reserved a large AWD SUV (Ford Expedition EL) for the pretty price of $990. Gulp. By far the most expensive piece of our trip. We go to pickup the SUV at the reserved rental time, and there was a 'be back in 15 mins' sign on the door. We were already on a tight timeline to load up and hit the road in order to beat rush hour traffic through Sacramento. We had to leave & come back...strike one. When we finally got waited on during our 2nd trip to this store, it was a speedy check out indeed. No discussion of the vehicle, just handed us the keys. Given we were already behind schedule and late to pick up the kids from school, we didn't question, we were grateful to be on the road. En route on I-80 and ready to plug our destination into the GPS....GPS had a message that an upgrade disc was required (NO GPS!!!)...the functionality was clearly there, just inoperable. Strike two. SUV fully loaded to the max with teenagers, adults, our dog & our snow gear. Unseasonably warm Feb day with outdoor temps in the mid 70s. AC was cranking in the front, but no air was circulating to the back, where the kids & dog were sitting. Add to this the fact that we were delayed in hitting the road due to the rental delays....and now we were stuck in major traffic. What would've been a 4.5 hour trip turned into a 6.5 hour trip. We had the AC on full blast (freezing & shivering in the front seats) to try to compensate for no AC in the back....everyone was miserable...and our poor dog was almost passed out from the heat in the very back. We scoured the 'owner's manual' and there were several instructions for 'back AC' in other similar Expedition models, but NOT the one we were rented. Strike three. I completed the auto online satisfaction survey after our trip with our corresponding low scores/feedback and received a pitiful email saying they hoped we'd give them another try in the future. $1000 wasted and a horrible experience getting to/from our vacation. Needless to say, everyone was tired & moody after such a negative car ride. NOT the vacation I had planned & dreamed about for 2 months....this agency clearly doesn't care about quality OR customer service. Look elsewhere for your rental car/truck needs. Seriously, there are reputable companies out there that will deliver what's promised on their website.... read more
