This place is the worst. I booked a moving van weeks ago to move my daughter into her dorm. At 5:15, the night before, they call and leave a message saying my reservation was cancelled because they "didn't have a van come through." What? What's the point of booking a van and paying weeks out if they don't have enough vans when it's go-time? If I'd cancelled on them less than 24 hours out I'm pretty sure they'd charge me. What was most infuriating was how nonchalant the guy was. He acted like it was no big deal. I should just call customer service and schedule a new one. Do Not rent from Budget rental car. They are NOT customer service focused at all. Their customer service will send you to the location and the location will send you to customer service. Had arranged to rent a car for an upcoming trip to Alaska. The car was not inexpensive. I thought all was good to go. Received an email saying they had a "glitch" in their pricing and canceled my reservation. They invited me to rebook. Went online and prices were an additional thousand dollars. I tried to argue it, but apparently, they can cancel your reservation at any time and raise their prices. "It's in their contract." How is this even legal? I come to Chicago frequently and always rent a car during my stay. This was my first time using Budget. This particular trip, I was in town to be a bridesmaid in my cousin's wedding. On Thursday, 7/18, while on my way to the rehearsal I got a flat tire. Unfortunately, me and four other cars that simply could not avoid a large car piece that had broken off and was bouncing around a busy intersection. No big deal, I thought, because my fiancé came with his mother's car to assist me in changing the tire. Lo and behold there is NO spare tire in the vehicle! There was, however, an inflation kit. This did not help because the tire was so shredded that the inflation kit was completely useless. We contacted roadside assistance. I was on the phone with the woman for over an hour. She assured me that someone would be out in 45 minutes to simply trade out the vehicle with a new vehicle. Seemed easy enough. I was so grateful to her for making a stressful situation infinitely less overwhelming. We received a text message from roadside assistance with the towing company information and ETA of one hour. So, my fiancé and I waited. About an hour went by and we were still waiting, so we decided to call the towing company. They never received the order to come to our location. So, if you're keeping track... This is over an hour on the phone with roadside assistance and now an hour waiting for someone who was never scheduled to come. Again, I contacted roadside assistance and shared with them what occurred. The gentleman that I spoke to informed me that the woman I originally spoke with never completed the request, which is why it was never sent to the towing company. So, we were, in fact, waiting on the side of the road for an hour for nothing. He said that he would now have to complete a new request and the ETA for a towing company to come out would be approximately 90 minutes. At this point, I had already missed my cousin's rehearsal at the church and I wanted to at least make the dinner, so my fiancé and I came up with a plan. I was not able to leave the car on the side of the road where I was, so we decided to take my mother-in-law's spare tire, put that on the rental car, he drove that to his mother's house, replaced the spare with the flat tire and I would take his mother's car to my event. I just asked that Budget please pick the car up from my mother-in-law's home. On my way to the rehearsal dinner, I received a phone call from Budget asking if I wanted to wait for a new car because they had someone who was in my area that could trade the cars. They assured me this would be within the next 20 minutes. I was already on my way at that point, so I thanked them for the offer but declined as I did not want to wait any more than I had. This whole situation was a total of four hours. I got to the rehearsal dinner over three hours late. I was still getting text messages and phone calls from roadside assistance up until 9:00pm. They did not pick the vehicle up from my mother-in-law's house until 9:00pm. I was just thankful that I didn't decide to sit and wait. Sunday, 7/21 I received a text message stating that my car hadn't been checked in. So, I contacted Budget to check the car in. I planned on calling Budget to share the frustrations that I encountered once I returned home because I felt like it took up enough of my trip, but I spoke to someone that day. I shared my confusion as to why every vehicle doesn't come with a spare tire and then my frustration with the entire situation that occurred on Thursday. The man I spoke to was apologetic and offered me a $50 credit for my troubles. I asked to speak with a manager regarding the matter because I did not feel that this was sufficient. The manager I spoke to was very short with me and provided me with no reassurance on the matter. He stated that $50 was all they could offer and ended the call. I truly don't care about the money, I planned on paying for the car regardless, but I feel that there should have been more of a desire to make my experience a positive one and that just simply was not the case. I had no intention on pursuing this any further, however this week I checked my credit card statement and I saw a charge from Budget for $59.86. I checked my email and there was no receipt sent as to why I would have been charged. So, again, I contacted Budget. The man I spoke to told me he would send me an email with where I could send the screenshot of my charge. I never received that email, so now ONCE AGAIN, I am on the phone with this company requesting assistance in rectifying their mess! So, unless you enjoy wasting your time and energy, I urge you to look at other options than renting a vehicle with Budget. read more

No way... the worker gets upset when you rent a car the same day. They will take your money and tell you later you cannot rent a car. I reserved a car to rent for some important travel out of Chicago at the Budget Rent A Car on Division Ave. in Oak Park, Il. I showed up 10 minutes early. I was not impressed with the office, which was a dilapidated structure on stilts. Upon entering I was told the "system was down" and I could not process a rental car until it was rebooted and up and running again. I waited almost an hour as nothing to fix the problem worked. I asked to be contacted in a couple of hours if the rebooted system came up again. I asked if another branch's rental car could be brought to me. I was instead told to drive to Logan Square where I could get another Budget vehicle. This place will never get my business again. The office is a mess, the yard is jammed with parked vehicles, and everything looks like a disorganized mess. There was a reason the computers and phones were down at that place....squirrels must've chewed on the wires or a rotten piece of timber ripped the wiring down ! What a joke. The person who waited on me was very nasty and unconcerned. His name is Shaq. I had a reservation for 10:30 am and I got there around 10:00. Instead of telling me that it would be an extra charge to pick up early the total come to $116. When I questioned it, then he reversed it. Their insurance and $29.99 a day and everyone else's is $9.99, total rip off. He didn't write down everything that was wrong with the car, like the leather on the drivers seat being torn. Stay away from this place! Very rude and unhelpful. I made a reservation at Avis to pickup a car on a Sunday at 12PM. I called this office the day before to confirm my reservation, but the lady who answered the phone told me there was no car available at the moment and I should call back on Sunday morning. I did call back and same lady said yes she had a car at the moment. I asked her if that means I will have a car when I come at 12PM, and she said no because there are other customers. I asked her if she can not garrenty to have a car for me, so I should change my reservation to a different location. She said she didn't say that, I should call back at 11:30 to know for sure if she has a car for me. I asked what will be my option if she doesn't have a car then. She had no answer. I asked her by what order does she distribute the available cars, will the preferred customer with a reservation have a higher claim than someone walk-in, she hung up the phone. I was so upset by her rude and unhelpful attitude, I changed my pickup location to the Midway Airport Avis. What is the use of a reservation? What is the use of being a Preferred member? I rented an economy car online for a Thur-Mon trip. When I stopped by on Wed to see if I could pick up the car earlier on Thursday (instead of at noon), Andy informed me that yes I could but it would cost more - the weekend rate didn't start until noon. Thank you Andy!! I didn't really need it earlier and I certainly didn't want to incur more cost. Then when I came to pick it up Vicky was as sweet as pie, even though she was working on her birthday. The car was great, the value was excellent (at least $70 less than others in the area), and the pick up and drop off were easy. Very satisfied! read more

Would honestly give zero stars if I could. First off I want to say is you should not use a debit card when trying to rent a car from here. They accepted, and took out, that payment IN FULL for a van we thought we'd be getting. Seeing as our payment was taken in full we thought we'd get it without a problem, but were told we needed a major credit card upon arrival. An entire day and difficult process later we were left without a rental and possibly not even a full refund. They should really change their system to only accept major credit cards to avoid this problem because in that two hour time frame there were three other customers who were stranded and left without a rental because of this same problem! This place is awful. Do not go here unless you look forward to rude and incompetent service. Reserved a truck the day before to make sure it was available the next morning for my busy day of moving. Got there 5 minutes late and the guy had already rented the "reserved" truck. Then he proceeded to yell at me that I could not park my car in the very empty lot and that I was to park in the street which was only a two hour limit. So I asked the rude salesperson where was I supposed to leave my car for the whole day. Certainly in the street was his response. What, so I can get s ticket or worse, get towed? Back to the point. . So no truck. I tried reserving another one. The website said there would be one available an hour and a half later, at the same location. Went inside after waiting and was told "rudely", that no matter what the website said, that there would be no way there would be a truck there at the appointed time. What kind of rental place is this? I left in a huff and went to Penske, had a truck and was on the road in fifteen minutes. I need to inform you about the worst rental experience I could imagine. I reserved a 12' truck to be picked up at 9am on a Sunday. I was moving from Chicago to S. Louis that day and needed the truck. During my booking there was a disclaimer that if a 12' is not available, a larger truck may be substituted at the same price. When I arrived at the facility there were two 16' trucks in the lot. I figured I will have to drive a larger truck. Except when I got inside, there was another customer that had rented a 12' truck ahead of me in line and they were taking one of the 16' trucks. I thought "Okay, there is still one more truck". But I was refused the last remaining truck because it was "reserved". I HAD A RESERVATION TOO. What makes that reservation more important than mine when I am there at 9am and have a full day of moving? You can reference the disclaimer when booking but the confirmation I have reads "XX XX, Your Truck Is Reserved!" There was no further explanation as to why I was not allowed the truck. They did find me another truck but it was an hour out of my way. A full day of moving was made 10x more difficult by Budget's incompetence and I feel completely taken advantage for as a customer. read more

I was having trouble with my vehicle, so I rented a car from another rental agency. When I added on days, my rate DOUBLED from $25 to $50 a day, so I decided to try another rental agency & found Budget in Oak Park. Not only was it quick & easy getting in & back out with the vehicle, when I had to add on time, they kept the rate the same, not jacking it up taking advantage of an already bad situation. They were polite & helpful each time I called &/or came in. I will DEFINITELY be recommending & using them again. read more

WORST RENTAL PLACE!!! I give this place ZERO stars. Worst rental experience ever. My family had reserved a rental for the holidays. It was paid for and everything. Went to pick the rental and turned out that we couldn't get it. The lady at the counter was rude, and said that we couldn't get out rental because they don't take debit card transaction. Something they should say online, which it doesn't. She said that she couldn't do anything for us. She gave us the 800-621-2844 number to call, and they were no help at all. We got transferred to 3 different people and they were all contradicting each other. I spoke to Anxxa, Bruce and Monica. None of them were able to help me out. I went back today to speak the manager and he was another ASSHOLE, who shouldn't be there, especially because he doesn't know how to talk to customers. ZERO STARS! If I could give less than that I would. Budget Rent-A-Car is awful to begin with, and this location is bad even by Budget's standards. Mr. Hamdan is incompetent at best, a crook at worst. I'm dealing with several problems at once. Prepaid a reservation, then took a cab to Budget's Oak Park location, which is a little trailer. Very fly-by-night. Mr. Hamden told me the car wasn't available yet but would be in ten minutes. I waited forty minutes, then Hamdan wouldn't give me the car because he said my debit card was no good. Fine. But that didn't stop him from charging me $200 anyway. With my car broken down and my wife in the hospital, I'm now short an extra $200 and still have no car, with Budget Rent-A-Car in no rush to issue a refund. Please, people... if you're in Oak Park and need a car, any other option is better! Heck, you're better off taking the bus! Despite having a confirmed online reservation for a Budget moving truck at this location 3 weeks in advance, and phone calls to confirm the reservation - the staff at this Oak Park location on Madison Ave. never bothered to request a truck and were unapologetic when I discovered they did not have *any* moving trucks the evening before my move. The location staff were even unwilling to help locate a truck at a different Budget locations in the area. I received a great deal through carrentals.com and on 9/22/16 reserved a 12 passenger van with "BUDGET" in Oak Park, IL. I received an email reminder on 9/29/16 two days before my scheduled pick up date of 10-1-16. I arrived as soon as Budget opened at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. I pass this location everyday and was excited because I rented this van for a party and observed this Ford Transit van parked in the same spot all week and it was still there upon my arrival that morning. As soon as I entered I observed two individuals one male of possibly Middle Eastern descent and a Caucasian lady that looked like she belonged in a line at a Methadone clinic (I'm not trying to be facetious just descriptively honest). She asked with a raspy voice "my I help you?" I responded "I made a reservation for a van this morning. The man immediately interjected in a mean loud voice "what's your name?" I gave him my name. He then responded in a mean voice once again "I left you a message three (3) days ago that we have no van." I knew he was lying because (1) I did not receive any call (2) van was in his lot and (3) I received a confirmation email 2 days prior. He then had the nerve to say he could have one available at 1 p.m. I informed him I needed it now for a party. Extremely distraught, I decided to leave when he continued to state in a mean voice "I left you message!" "I left you message!" I then got very upset because he did not even apologize and the fact that I never received a message so I told him to stop lying and called him an "IDIOT!" He then had the audacity to inform me that he was calling the police. I told him to go ahead because no crime had been committed. I then left the premises. I thought that we have made perfect choice for renting van for 12 people for our vacation. We reserved van over month before our trip. The day before they call us that they have van. My husband even went there to do all paper work so we have less to do in the day when we have to leave. Finally in the day of our trip they called us and informed us that they will be late and they call us whey they will have van. We decided to go there , in the place they didn't have van and they didn't know when they are going to have it. We had our reservation for our trip. This messed up our plans. We gave them time. After 4 h we decided to rent quickly another van in another place- we were lucky that they have it. In 30 min we were ready to leave. But our trip was delay for 6 hours thanks to them and staying in limbo for 4 hours.
