I was satisfied with my experience renting a car from Hertz at this location. They are located right next to an auto body repair shop, which made it very convenient to walk over and rent a car for a few days while my car was in the shop. It is a small branch, and I was serviced right away. The rental car was clean, the gas tank was at a reasonable level, and did not have any odor. Visited on June 11 at 4:26pm, didn't get employees names but I wish I had. I had a reservation at 3pm got caught up with things and was an hr and half late for pick up. They didn't even acknowledge me walking in. When they eventually did, they claimed they could only hold a reservation for an hour max and they didn't have a car for me. I looked it up, Hertz should hold your reservation for 2 hours so I'll be calling corporate tomorrow about a training opportunity for the staff that was present. The reason for the bad review is how I was treated. Ok fine you don't have a car, but that's no reason to verbally attack me. They were antagonistic and extremely rude. I got yelled at in front of 4 other patrons for 'showing up late and my car being given away was not their problem'. I am a long time Hertz customer with advanced status. Using this location was the worse experience I have ever had with Hertz. I had a reservation and the car was not ready, car was not full and I had to wait for 40 minutes to pick up my car and was not given any options regarding vehicles. You'll have to turn from Madison St onto Clarence Ave, then make a hairpin 180° turn up a small incline before encountering a one-way parking disaster. Troubling issue #1: this Hertz rental lot sits on exactly 7,400sqft of space and no, I didn't forget a zero. While that size of land might be suitable for a Popeye's or Starbucks drive-thru, 0.2 acres is NOT enough room to stuff twenty cars into. I was sent there by the dealership because my truck was in the shop and the dealership was paying for my rental. I was forced into paying for something that was already taken care of by the dealership. Was they got my card info Al they did was harass me about more money and once the car was returned $301 was stolen from my account by them. The very very small car they gave me was not safe and the windows didn't roll down due to some electrical issues. The so called manager lied about a refund for a month then left to go to another site they claim. The lady who lied to me in the first place and stole my money would not transfer my calls to anyone but took my number so whenever I call back they would pick up the phone and leave me on hold indefinitely. It's been months now and the management team still haven't contacted me after they said they would. This place is a scam and their car needs to be junked and this place needs to be shut down. The sign on the door had a max limit of 2 customers, which is understandable. An employee walked passed me twice, another employee walked pass me four times. After having some lady named Lynda crash into my parked car a few weeks ago (she left a note), I was in need of a rental vehicle. While working through said lady's insurance they authorized my rental through Hertz and were nice enough to find the once closest to my home. I dropped my wounded HR-V at the nearby Service King in Oak Park and was picked up there by a Hertz employee. We exchanged 0 words, not a "good afternoon" or a "hi", NADA. I only knew he was the Hertz guy because the girl at Service King said: "they're here for you". Alright. I arrived at Hertz and was lucky there was only one couple waiting in line before me. This place is TINY. You can probably only fit 5 people inside plus the two employees at the desk. Yet again, I wasn't greeted at all. Just received a look from the employee behind the desk. Once it was my turn, the process was pretty straightforward and I was able to drive away in a 2019 black Malibu, which was pretty nice. Fast forward to a week and a half later, it's time to return my rental and pick up my baby at the body shop. I had from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm to pick up my car at the shop so I arrived at Hertz to return my vehicle at 11:00 am assuming it wouldn't take more than 30 minutes, I mean, you just drop the keys off and go your own way, right? Wrong! When I arrived, there was an older lady and a couple waiting to pick up their rentals. The same employee who helped me with my pickup was there. Again, as soon as I entered the tiny building, no greeting at all. After a couple of minutes, he did look my way and said: "I'll be with you in a second". A "second" turned into what felt like an eternity of an empty desk and people piling into the closet-sized room. Some people ended up waiting out in the sun because they could no longer fit inside. The employee was apparently outside cleaning cars while people, like me, waited in order to just drop off their keys. I feel sorry for the guy, they were severely short-staffed if the front desk guy has to go outside and wash cars while there's nobody in the building helping customers. After 30 minutes of waiting, the employee came into the office to help the FIRST lady that was there before me. I snuck around and asked if I could just leave the keys and have a receipt emailed to me. The employee nodded, I dropped my keys on the desk and walked away. Will I ever get my $50 deposit back? I don't know. Will I ever get a receipt emailed to me? Not yet (it's been 24 hours). Maybe I'll never know. What I do know is that I will never, in my life, come back to this Hertz or recommend it to anyone, EVER! read more

I got a great car at a reasonable rate. Both employees working there provided pleasant and prompt service. This experience was so much better than my experiences at a competitor on the northeast side of town that provides pick up and drop off service, according to their ads. But guess what... awhile back when I reserved a car with that competitor, they said they couldn't pick me up. Yet at this Hertz store, when I called and asked about it, they said they could and when I followed up at the store, they promptly called me a Lyft. Only downside is that they're not open on Sunday. This was one of the worse experiences I've ever had at a car rental facility. For Hertz Oak Park, I truly expected them to rent the latest model cars. I get an outdated Mazda that seems as if the car was made in 2010. I open the door and it wreaked of cigarette smoke. Sure enough, whole cigarettes and butts on the the floor along with potato chips on the floor. Mr. Andrew (I believe that's his name) apparently wasn't in a good mood to begin with. Slow. This company as a whole needs help. I'm thankful for this location because the reps I dealt with was friendly, but they need MAJOR WORK!!!! When I walked in, there were 2 male employees talking amongst themselves, they never spoke to me or offered assistance, until the phone rang and I'm like hello I've been standing here! So a female agent came in from finishing up someone else and offered help, she ended up completing my transaction. She was very patient while I dealt w/my asinine insurance company who screwed up my reservation and scheduled me for $20 daily instead of my policy limit $30 daily. I hate to complain about a business that is slammed with customers, but the level of disorganization was pretty staggering. Only one guy (I think his name was Marcus) seemed to know what he was doing, and unfortunately, had to juggle helping literally everyone else with his own job. It took me two hours to get a car even though I arrived with only one person in front of me. I appreciate that Marcus vetoed the original car they were going to give me because it was literally gross. They DID go through the effort of wiping down another car for COVID reasons (I suppose), but it still smells like cigarettes. On top of that, the car has some noticeable rust damage over the front wheel. The cherry on top was the fact that none of the staff was complying with CDC COVID regulations. Plenty of no masks or half masks, which was only corrected when the woman after me started on how she worked for a nearby hospital. So Marcus, the single star here is for you. I hope things ease up. I always rent from Hertz. It's always super easy and fast and the service is good. This location is an exception. The car they first tried to give me was a class lower (compact) than what I reserved. That's fine, availability changes, but don't still charge me for the higher class (mid-size) car. It took FOREVER to get the car. I was the only customer there, it shouldn't take 25 minutes to rent a car I reserved online with a Gold account. The car I finally got had almost 70,000 miles and reeked of smoke. That's what I expect to get from a low cost rental car shop, not Hertz. Third, check your contract before you leave (the mileage, gas level, time-out). Mine was wrong and I ended up paying more for gas as a result. Two stars because I was able to get a car. The people who work there are nice enough (they weren't overtly rude or anything), but don't seem to understand the economic benefits of good customer service. Clearly a failure of management. Please clean your vehicles inside & out before someone rents them. This is my third time renting a nasty car. Windows with greasy fingers smudged. Juice bottles under the seat. Dashboard had so much dust on it. The only thing cleaned were the floors of the vehicle, they were vacuumed. I arrived just after 7:00am - before the rental location even opened.  It was freezing outside, so the Hertz representative allowed me to wait inside the office even though the office wasn't open yet. Once inside, I was processed very quickly.  The representative was polite and professional. The office opened at 7:30am and I had my rental agreement in hand by 7:32am.  The next day when I returned the car, I was processed just as quickly and politely. It was cold and raining hard outside, so the representative asked her colleague to drive me home.  After I was processed, an angry customer walked into the office.  From my observation, it was the customer who was in the wrong.  He had used the EZ pass on the highway, but did not want to pay the charge for the transponder.  He could have easily gone through the cash lanes to avoid paying the transponder fee, but he chose not to and was now upset that he had to pay the fee.  Again, the Hertz representative handled the situation in the best possible way.  She remained calm and polite.  She apologized for his inconvenience and the gave him the number to call EZ Pass customer service. read more

This rental place got me what I needed and in a timely fashion. I worked with Jameika (who typically works near Midway) for my pick up and she couldn't have been more helpful. I sold my car about 10 years ago and rent a car about every 4-6 weeks. Budget and Hertz are just a couple of blocks from each other on Madison and after years of using Budget, I got tired of the long lines and them not having the car I reserved. (They think upgrading from the economy car I reserved, to a gas guzzler is a perk.) So, I tried Hertz. What a difference! The reservation/pick up process is quick. The cars are clean, they inspect them WITH YOU before you get inside. This weekend I needed a car, just on Saturday, and the cost for 1 day with Budget was the same as 2 days with Hertz. Customer service is clearly a priority for the employees at this location. I was having a truly terrible day when I came here and the workers were so courteous and helpful, not just to my husband and me but to everyone who came in to their small office while we were there. When our flight to Dallas was canceled during Chiberia 2014, my husband and I had few choices but to drive in order to make it to a very important meeting. I called around to several rental companies in the area. This was the only place that could give us a car to drive out of state on very short notice. We arrived at Hertz less than 2 hours after I called for the reservation. The guy who helped us rent the car also helped us get a discount. He said the car was in good shape but because we were getting ready for a long drive he would like to take the car down the street to have the tire pressure checked to make sure it was ready. That is really above and beyond! I really hope I'm never in the same situation but if I need to rent another car in this area, I will not hesitate to come to this location. I would normally take off one star because of the condition of the car... It was kind of an old car for a rental, someone had spilled a sticky drink all over the center console, the carpets were destroyed, and the car desperately needed new wiper blades.
