There are some customer service experiences where you walk in expecting the usual: pick up the keys, sign a few things, pretend to understand the insurance options, and leave with a rental car. Then there's the Enterprise in Oak Park. I've been to this location five times now, and every visit has felt less like renting a car and more like being quietly shepherded through the process by people who have somehow figured out the secret to dealing with the public. At the center of it all is Sam, the manager. Sam is excellent. If you aren't disarmed by his eyes, you'll be disarmed by his calm, astute nature. The man can read a room like he's got subtitles turned on. He knows when someone needs an answer, when they need a moment, and when they've already explained their problem three times and just need someone to say, "Yep, I've got you." He listens. He's friendly. He's personable. And, perhaps most impressively, he manages to maintain this level of composure while working in an industry where customers presumably arrive every day with some combination of a reservation, a problem, and a story that begins with, "So, you're not going to believe what happened..." And then there's his team. They're kind, detail-oriented, pragmatic, and genuinely attentive. Every customer is treated like they're the only customer in the world. Five visits in, I've yet to witness the "next!" energy that can make customer service feel like an airport security checkpoint. Instead, there's patience, warmth, and an obvious commitment to getting things right. That's a reflection of Sam. Good managers manage. Great managers set a tone that everyone else seems to absorb without realizing it. His team clearly trusts him, and it shows in how they treat people. At this point, I have to assume Sam is on some sort of trajectory. If he isn't running Enterprise in 10 years, I fully expect to see him running security for Taylor Swift--calmly scanning the room, reading the temperature, and quietly deciding who absolutely does not need to be backstage. Give it another five years and he'll probably be her writing partner too. In summation, this is exactly what good customer service should feel like. I've had five excellent experiences at this location, and Sam and his team have earned my trust every single time. If every Enterprise location had a Sam, the rental-car industry would have a much better reputation. Five visits. Five great experiences. Highly recommended. read more

I have been renting cars at this location for at least 6 yrs. I have never received a clean care and have resolved to the fact that it's just not going to happen. But may last two rentals have been a nightmare. I reserved a van in May and they called me the night before to say it wasn't available. No help to find another one nothing. I reserved a car this past Friday, they sent out a text to "confirm" the reservation and I get there, they check me in and swipe my card only to tell me "oh unfortunately we don't have any cars, and we are unsure when one will be in".... When I asked why wasn't I informed of this before he swiped my credit card he then begin to gaslight me saying I was getting loud with him. I never raised my voice. Not one octave, the disrespect for me and my time is unforgivable. There is always an issue with this location and lack of service and inventory. Stop wasting peoples time if you can't meet that need of your "confirmed reservations" then you need to reevaluate your system and do something else. Don't bother calling the Oak Park location ever at anytime of the day. Was told by the manager on duty that they don't respond to phone calls, only emails. In the meantime their business cards and website list a phone number. When you call their number you are put on automatic hold with a recording stating "all agents are busy, please continue to hold for the next available representative". The recording never lets the customer know that their call will remain unanswered and to send an email instead. I have never heard of a business that doesn't allow paying customers to call them. Not everyone has access to a computer or internet access at all time. I am curious to know if their corporate office has the same poor attitude towards their customers. PS: when I expressed my dissatisfaction with their no-phone call policy, the manager very condescendingly replied " thank you, happy Mother's day" and went inside his office. 11 customers were waiting in line at 5 pm Tuesday night, but my husband had phoned earlier so I was able to get in and out in about 30 minutes- plus free shuttle from my house- with a nice, clean and well-functioning mid-size car. 3 days, $130. Dan was especially helpful and got me on the road in time to make a vital 6 pm doctor appointment in the city. The other customers appeared to have a longer wait. They could have used a few extra staff members handling customers, for sure. It was really crowded! But great service, clean car, good price, free door-to-door shuttle. I'll rent here again next time my car is in the shop. Very handy. Bumping from 4 to 5 stars thanks to excellent customer service at drop off after a long, stressful day! I rented on 29th Aug 2023 for 10 days. The customer service was horrible. I requested for swapping the car on same day because the car was not driving smooth. I talked to David about my issue he said if you dont like just drop the car. I had no choice because my vehicle was in body shop. During my 10 days he never called me to update about my issue. I wanted to rent from this location on Elmwood Park because it is in the same area as where my truck will be getting fixed. I was told at first that there was nothing available. The next day, I was picked up by a very nice young man. He took care of me. However after all the paperwork was done they show me the car. It was scratched and some fender scratches. He opened the door and the SMELL!!! Dog and smoke the seats had a white stripe DIRTY DISGUSTING!!!Just like their lobby. I canceled the manager had an attitude and wouldn't help me. Their loss! I am so disappointed in my recent/current rental experience with Enterprise Oak park IL location. Upon arrival the gentleman assisting me was very condescending, when I asked where I could park my personal vehicle during the rental period his response was "anywhere but here". When I asked for parking recommendations he said to park it on the street knowing that it's meter parking and I was gone for 7 days. Not only that it's street parking in Chicago- very likely the car will not be there in 7 days. When I asked for further recommendations he said he had none. This customer service is not the enterprise standard. When I finally was able to get into my rental, the rental smelled of smoke, had not been cleaned as there was dust everywhere. The "low air" in the tires came on immediately and 100 miles into my journey the "oil changed required" light came on. read more

Then he spoke softly to one of his colleagues (trainee) about how it doesn't matter what rate that anyone pays, "you can always add cleaning fees and other things to make money." I went in to switch out a rental that had a very bad cigarette smoke smell after I contact customer care which said they had cars available. Spoke to a person named Brian who is just the worst. He said with a snarky attitude, its a holiday no one is going to switch out a car for you. He refused to help me, didnt ask for my reservation number, was reluctant to call another Branch or find a car, saying they are just going to say the same thing. I flew from out of town with a reservation and was told they couldn't help me because they sold out of cars the day before. I called this company and then asked if they could take me to another enterprise to get a car or have one brought to me and they denied my request. I walked to this location to see if I could get a car upon someone returning and a sea of African-American people were waiting for cars. I'm still at this location on foot waiting and I noticed an hour ago they pulled a car out from being washed and parked it. I just booked a car from another company at ORD. A white couple arrived to this location in a blue BMW and one of the guys from Enterprise happily went out to greet them and gave them the keys to the available car while everyone else is sitting outside boiling in the sun. One person was out here for at least 2 hours with a child and I've been out here for at least an hour. We are both black. We can't be served here, I guess. I just saw another set of non-minority's people come out of nowhere and another Enterprise rep come out to meet them and there's another car that's been brought out. I am assuming these 2 white women will get it. I'm more upset about the fact everyone Black including myself have been waiting for well over an hour with reservations and we're told cars were going to be given on first come, first served basis while at least 2 Caucasian couples appeared and within minutes we're able to be served. The guys working at Enterprise didn't even want to come out for the Black people, but magically appeared to serve the Whites within minutes. I WILL NEVER USE ANOTHER RENTAL CAR PLACE AGAIN! Enterprise Oak Park is wonderful. I was working on a claim with State Farm and using Bump City to do the work and originally planned to use Hertz to rent my replacement van. Well Hertz is a nightmare and told me they couldn't send anyone to the repair shop with the minivan because "it was outside of their jurisdiction" but they would pay for my Uber. I have 3 kids aged 4,3 and 1. All in car seats. That would mean I would need to transfer a stroller, 3 children and 3 car seats and all their stuff TWICE. I literally cried tears of joy when Bump City rang up Enterprise instead, and when Zak at Enterprise pulled up 10 minutes later to the repair shop. He helped me load 3 car seats/Strollers/googled how to do it properly, even temporarily babysat my three kids. I swear he was an actual saint. Thank you Zak and the whole team at Oak Park enterprise for taking care of this run down mom and her crazy kids on a cold Monday night. I will never forget it. read more

I made a reservation for a rental car to visit my new niece in Georgia for New Years 2015. Booking the rental online was simple and the price was excellent for a week. I read all the reviews when I made this reservation and had so many doubts even though i was using my credit card VS my debit card. My rental time was for Noon, so being cautious I called and asked cpuld I pick it up earlier. I was assured this would not be a problem. Excellent news I arrived to get my rental at 10am, I was feeling a little anxious as the line was out the door but the customer service I observed was excellent. It was finally my turn and i was being helped by Adam. He took my CC, swiped it, confirmed my insurance and that was it.. I am also a USAA member so that was an extra discount for me which was applied with no problem by Adam. Nice man who's father like mine also served in the Army so that was a nice conversation. He asked for my van to be pulled around and was told it was out for an oil change due to my interstate travels. Oh NO I am thinking but they told me it would be there soon. Their soon was about 45 minutes and this is where I get to meet Diana, the new manager of only 2 days at that time. She noticed my impatience was building as work phone calls started, she made another call and told me that if my van was not ready she would upgrade my vehicle to a SUV and let me go. I explained how I appreciated her help but wanted the van. This will be the location for my rentals whenever I need one. read more

Many times the renting of a car can be a bad experience but not at this location. We needed a 15 passenger van to take some of our youth group to a concert. About a week in advance I made the appointment online and an agent from Enterprise contacted me the same day to verify. There were no hidden fees. I put a little too much gas in the tank when I dropped it off. The on duty manager gave me a "gas card" to offset the amount. Close and convenient to my office. Will use again! read more

I reserved online and within an hour and a half I had been picked up and was on my way. I was given a nicer car than I had requested. When I returned the car the next day we got a ride back to where I was staying by the manager because the driver wasn't back yet and I had mentioned that we were in a hurry. He was very friendly. Great customer service. Picked up a car last night which I think was used by a smoker before I got it, which doesn't work for me. Stopped by this morning and asked to switch cars. The manager took care of me and had me in a new car and out the door within 10 minutes. Friendliest, most helpful car rental place I've ever used. Likewise, the agent last night was helpful and polite as well, even though they were slammed. First of all this If I could I would not have given any stars to this enterprise based on experience. I came here with a reservation number and was in line waiting about 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged that I was there. Upon filling out my paper work I was told that I do not qualify to rent a car because I was under 25 years old. I explained to the staff member that I have been renting with enterprise for close to two years and the elmwood park branch and my age was never a problem mind you this place charges you $14.99 a day for an underage fee!! The woman called her manager and he proceeded to explain to me how this branch was different... He told me that the other branch was doing things that were not company policy and there was nothing he can do to help me. He did not offer to help at all but proceed to help the next customer!! To start, I rent from Enterprise a lot for business reasons. I rented from the Oak Park IL. location for a month at a fixed rate I was happy with. I needed the same car for extended time beyond that and the manager kicked up my rate 100 + % . One would figure into trying to keep your customers happy and keeping them from sliding over to the competitors, a business would appease their clientele an inch or two, correct ? Incorrect . This location demanded information that has never been requested from any car rental in my entire life of 52 years (insurance rental or personal rental) They wanted my employment information and two emergency contacts after getting credit card information.
