This review is for a car rental. I don't have a car, so when I need to do some hauling or some such, I usually rent a car from Budget. Let's just say that Dennis knows how to retain business. The first time I rented a car, even though I scheduled in advance, Budget had NO CARS there. I think something about the airport needing them. I had to wait about 30 minutes for the cars to arrive, but knowing that something like that is out of control of the guys working the desk, I didn't blame them and gave them a chance to rectify the situation. And they did. In the middle of a line 4 deep, the phone ringing like crazy, they still managed to make me feel like my business was important. Because I had to wait, and when all the cars arrived, they had a larger vehicle for me so I was upgraded for free, since I waited so patiently. I've gone through them twice since and it's been a great experience. I'm sad I'm moving so they are no longer my local car rental place. read more

Dinesh is nice. But, if something goes wrong (in my case, the truck broke down), be prepared to go down multiple days worth of frustrating customer service and roadside assistance calls where agents deflect responsibility and waste your time. Ask for a customer service supervisor - it seems they are the only ones with the authority to make helpful changes to your billing. But, don't expect it to be a smooth or quick process. read more

The gentleman who helped me with the truck rental was extremely kind. I accidentally undefined the gas and he informed me I can go down the street to top it off, rather than pay a premium in gas fees. He didn't charge me for being an extra few mins late due to this. The vehicle was reliable and did the job. Cheaper than I thought :-). read more

I'd give 0 stars if I could. Booked a truck rental went to go pick it up and they said they didn't have any trucks available for us and cancelled our reservation. Why be able to book if nothing is available? Workers were unhelpful and customer service is lacking. Don't understand how this business is still running. read more

This is a review for Budget Truck overall. Every store is different, and the deception is the same because it's corporate. Until the end, the experience was decent. However, I went for the full package and paid for the zero responsibility option. The top of the truck was damaged during our move, and they called me from corporate to demand payment. Apparently, even though the contract explicitly states "I have selected the zero damage waiver, I am not responsible for any loss of or damage to the vehicle", there is some other language buried deep in their agreement (which I don't believe came with the rental) that the top of the truck is not covered. I refuse to pay for it, of course, and will never use Budget Truck or rental cars again. No other rental company does this. read more

Give me a truck that doesn't work and drove across country it was the worst ride. I wasn't very happy

I got my truck for a move across state lines, and then about halfway through realized they had taped over the check engine light, which was on, with black electrical tape, to hide that the light was on. After arriving at my location, i called the customer service line to make sure my drop-off location was after hours, I had chosen that specifically since I was arriving on a Sunday. Three different agents told me that it was not an after hours drop off location. So they sent me to a different drop off location, that was an additional 30 minutes from the previous drop off location, because it was after hours drop off. It was not, it was a random gas station that had no way on any side of the building to drop off the truck. So I called them back and was informed that they could not help me at all, and I would have to drop it off tomorrow, which I could not do due to medical appointments at a hospital 2 hours away. So we drop off the truck back at the first location and take the keys with us. I go back in the morning, immediately when they open, in hopes that i wont be too late for the appointments, and have to go fill up the tank to avoid the 62.11 charge for refuel of gas it took to get back from the other location. When I get back to the counter at the dropoff location after refueling, to talk to the lady and make sure everything is finalized and I can leave, she forcefully took my contract to show me where in the contract I had signed that I would bring the truck back full, which had already been addressed, and did not need to be shown. And mind you, before i filled the truck up, it was still at the full line on the meter, just not above the line. And after doing that, I just checked my bank statement a week later, and they still charged me the money for the refuel that I did myself. Now when I call on the phone to try to remedy this, the line goes dead. Do not use them under any circumstances, it is not worth the headache of the incompetence of the employees or the company. read more

I've had a horrible experience with this Budget rental. Here is my story: I'm going to the Burning Man festival and we reserve a truck for one week. We arrive on a Saturday to pick it up when the person who works there (Umesh) brings out an additional contract stating: Please note: If a Budget truck or car is taken to the BURNINGMAN FESTIVAL, you are 100% responsible to return it free of "WHITE DESERT DUST" and require cleaning, your account may be charged up to $1000 as a cleaning and maintenance fee. Okay, I get it, you want to make sure that you protect your investment. However, they never stated this over the phone, never told us that we have to take on an extra $1000 liability. And the reason why is that if they had we would have gone somewhere else. So it's a bait and switch, and at pickup time I have no alternative because everywhere else is closing and there are 30 people waiting on the truck to attend the burn. So I attempt to strike a deal, I tell Umesh that I'll take the truck outside of the festival to gerlach and then run stuff into the burn. I want to put this in the contract, he says that he won't, and that corporate headquarters put this in. I ask, may I call corporate hq and confirm? He says sure, but won't let me use the phone to do so. When I call corporate, they have no idea about the contract and as I talk to them they start asking that I fax in the contract because this isn't their standard policy. Suddenly, Umesh allows me to change the contract and he says that he'll fax it in later. Yeah right. So a week later when we come back, there is minimal dust. However a bunch of us wash the heck out of it anyway inside and out. I bring it back, and Umesh (the manager their) says, "theres a little dust on the inside, we are going to charge you $300". $300! I checked around, the going rate is around $50, but the manager is indifferent, won't let us take truck back out to get it cleaned. So I take pictures of the inside, go back, construct an email to corporate and then follow up with them. Here's what corporate told me: Detailing was $55, so we are going to refund you $245. Thanks budget! I have to applaud the corporate budget office since they were helpful and fair. They also helped me file a complaint against this Budget location. They also said that MANY MANY other people of complain about this stores unconventional way of doing things. So in summary here's is why I'm giving one star: 1) Bait and switch: This Budget location withheld extraordinary liability requirements until we were trapped and had no time to seek out a competitor, for purposes of profit. 2) Frivolous and unsubstantiated claims of cleanup cost by charging $300 for a $55 "detail" job on return, despite the fact that I had purchased $400 worth of 0-deductible insurance. 3) The Budget representative, Umesh, was completely unprofessional and indifferent to myself and my party. We paid Budget an incredible amount of money for the rental and I expect to be treated as a valued customer instead of a sucker who should have gone somewhere else. read more

I must say this truck rental place knows what they are doing. We went to Burning Man festival with Budget truck and told them in advance. They advised us about the cleaning fee if the truck is returned dirty. **To those who has been to the festival know what (dust and more) I am talking about. I understand the value of their property and we (Burning Man goers) have a responsibility as well. We had fun and hey, we shouldn't abuse thier property. We powerwashed the rental truck in San Jose Truck Wash (and met four other festival goers) and returned without any hassles. They were very happy that the truck was returned washed. It sure was dirty from the festival. They want us to come back and also offered discounted rate for next year. I will be sending out email to everyone about the good service, good rate and most importantly they allow their truck to Burning Man unlike other companies. read more

Booked a Uhaul truck, suddenly cancelled the day before we pick up with whatever reason it was. What do you expect me to do? Every other Uhaul are out of truck for the next day. Actually not just Uhaul; Penske and Budget were out as well. Everybody was out, everybody except this one location. They told me I was lucky. Yeah probably but still they made it happened. Budget Truck Rental - Made it safely to SoCal! - Truck Rental Near Me - Mountain View, California

We rented a truck from the Avis/ Budget in Santa Clara but when we stopped by we were told our truck was still rented out. A bit frustrated that we have friends coming to help us move with no truck; the guy told us we can still pick one up at this Budget. When we arrived in Mountain View the shop had just opened. We were like the second or third in line. One guy manning the office. Although the phone was ringing off the hook and the line was only getting longer he took his time with each customer and answered any questions or concerns they had. I was very impressed by how he handled the crowd and didn't get flustered or overwhelmed. When it was our turn in line he was already aware of our situation. He gave us 20 free miles and a dolly. He showed us to our truck and we did a quick run around for any huge damages. The truck was pretty comfortable and clean. I was actually very surprised. We returned the truck that night after hours. We locked up the truck and returned the keys to the key-drop in the window. We were charged a few days later. No hidden fees pretty straight forward. This place made our move a success. Booked a truck pickup online for 1pm on a Saturday. It wasn't until I was heading over that Google Maps warned me this branch CLOSED at 1pm (definitely should have warned me on the site somehow when I booked??) I missed my 1pm pickup, so I showed up right after opening the next day (tried to call ahead, but the person working there said he'd have to call me back in 5 minutes...20 minutes go by...I call again...same answer, so I just head over). I'm told that even though everything online says that the office closes at 1pm on Saturday, they were REALLY there till 1:10pm, so I should have come then. Because I didn't come during that 10 minute window, they no longer have a truck for me this morning (but wouldn't confirm that they actually had one ready previous day). I was told I should call the national Budget hotline, but the person working the front desk wasn't willing to help me with that. Very poor experience--will not return. read more

I had great service, and an unbeatable experience with my budget truck rentals here. First off, thanks to Dinesh and Manish for being so professional and great to work with. Dinesh was sure to update me when the truck I had reserved was not going to be available, and it turned out the van I got instead was even better for me. Both these guys care about doing a good job, and that is wonderful to find when you really need help. It was so stressful moving during COVID, and these folks were a real bright spot for me. On the day before my last truck move, I successfully swapped my box truck for a cargo van by calling the corporate fleet manager and alerting them that their inventory was sold out for big trucks, and I actually needed something smaller. Was pleasantly surprised to show up and find the perfect size van was there for me instead of the box truck... Thank you, Budget, and thank you Dinesh and Manish! I had a GREAT experience. First off, I got a great rate. And moving from northern California to South Florida made everything very expensive, so it was so nice to get the rate I got. Second, Dennis (the owner) was the person who interacted with me. He has been incredibly kind as well as generous in his customer service. He upgraded my truck (no charge to me) to a newer and longer truck. He also gave me the best car carrier he had, called me the day before to tell me that if i get there 15 minutes early, that I'd beat the crowd, and then he also waived a significant fee (and said "Merry Christmas" haha! All in all, he was extremely accommodating and in our day and age, it's far from a given. So I would recommend this budget to anyone! I was looking for alternatives after reading the horrible U-Haul reviews. Budget delivered with a reasonably-priced rental and fast, friendly service. I was driving the truck off the lot within 10 minutes. Keep an eye out for coupons online. The cab wasn't spotless and they charge $10 for a night drop, but you can bring drop it off the next morning without the charge. read more

And, they were completely sold out of trucks the day I wanted to move, so, not much choice but to look for alternatives. I found this Budget truck rental office and man, am I glad I did. Not only did they have the truck I wanted available, but the person at the counter helping me was friendly, fast, and courteous. We had a break down and needed a tow. This was our drop off location. Corporate told us to contact them to close out the truck and move on. They do not answer their phone during operating hours. I tried for 30 minutes and called at least 4 times the first day. Then I tried for 45 minutes and called at least 7 times the following day. No response or even an ability to leave a voice message. Pray you never get put in a position where you have to call them. read more

I have rented a car from here many times. The service and the rate is super good. The person working at the desk is friendly and good natured. He tries to get good deals for me always because i am a regular customer. Once i had a delay in my flight and was late to go rent a car at the location but the guy(numbish) was kind enough to wait a few extra minutes for me even though they close at 5pm. We were originally supposed to pick up a 12 foot truck at a location 2 minutes away from our house. When we get there, they guy says the truck has been moved to a location that is an hour and a half away (both ways combined). So instead of going there, we decide to go to another budget location and see if they have anything for us. Luckily, the man there was nice enough to accommodate us with an identical truck, even though he needed it the next day. Very good service AT THIS LOCATION. "Diniss" is his name I believe. TERRIBLE experience with this business. After receiving an email confirming my rental days before, I arrived on my pick-up day to find out they had no trucks available. Their legal documents are written so that you get charged $50 if you don't give 48 hours cancellation notice, but they can give your confirmed/reserved truck away and say "sorry, it's not guaranteed". Their confirmation email makes you think it's all set up and reserved---it's so misleading it should be considered fraudulent. The customer service at this location was horrible- The guy that helped me tried to make it sound like it was my fault for not re-confirming by phone (which I did two days before). He said he noticed the day before that there was a truck rental in the computer for my pick-up day even though they didn't have a truck to rent to me. If they saw the day before that they could not fill my reservation, WHY NOT CALL ME? I could have rented from another location or a better business. Instead I was stuck truckless on the only day I had to move. They wasted my time and money, and hid behind "fine print" clauses that we couldn't even find when we pulled up the confirmation email to look at it. Beware of shady business practices at this location. I had a tight schedule and lost most of the morning...when they finally drove me to another location to get a truck, it was super dirty, bug-splattered windshield with no windshield fluid to clean it. They gave me a discount due to my car being in the shop and were very friendly and accommodating. I got a cute little Nissan Versa for two nights at a reasonable price of $32 per night plus tax. I looked at the reviews for budget and for U haul and decided to try budget even though I have used the UHaul location in the past without problems. It's an okay experience. PROS (Over UHaul): No line, the clerk was friendly. I was in and out quite fast, only $10 for overnight rental and they do not require that declaration upfront and so are flexible about rental times. CONS: More expensive than UHaul (despite the coupon), limited timings, they closed 5 minutes early costing me an overnight charge. My truck was quite old and required diesel (which was a hassle but it was a big truck). Pretty comparable to UHaul there. The tank was not completely full so I had to guess at how much diesel I need to add. Overall I found them comparable to UHaul. The limited timing was a pain but I managed. They were definitely friendlier and more flexible than UHaul. However, the caveat is that I have not had any problems with UHaul in MV either. read more

Very very BAD, UNPROFESSIONAL NON-SERVICE!!!! First of all, the Santa Clara location did not have the truck I reserved, they did not call to even notify me of the situation. Then they told me to make my way to Mountain View location on Middlefield Rd. They promised to take care of the cab fare since it was their problem. When I get there, the person at the counter was very rude. No customer service at all, did not even care about what happened. Just kept blaming the reservations people. He said, "I have a truck, if you want it, it's here, if you don't want it, than it's fine." with a very non-caring tone. Why is he in the customer service industry??? Budget/Avis ... You're supposed to be professional. I called customer service, got routed to Mexico. I asked for corporate, the man said they had no corporate number. I asked for his boss, he patched me through to phone that just kept ringing!!! What is this? I'm sure you are losing so many customers. Who knows, maybe you won't be in business that long if you keep hiring people that don't have customer service, that do not even have a corporate number available to them, nor do they know if they have a corporate office. Never again will I choose your company. Will not recommend!!!! btw .. I had to cab it home as well. On the positive side, they helped us get a car when the Palo Alto budget place with whom we had a reservation didn't have any cars whatsoever. On the negative side, the clerk flim-flammed me out of $100 for insurance I didn't need. He told me it would be $45 and unlike my regular car insurance would carry no deductible and everything would be covered etc etc. We were already flustered by the failure of our reservation at Palo Alto budget and I was distracted by that, but I should have read the fine print. He was very professional and thoughtful in helping us get the best truck which had an easy lift for our move and explained everything well. We were also able to return the truck just around closing time and he was willing to stay a few minutes after closing time for us with no complaints. I rented from Avis Budget Rental in Santa Clara but I had to pick the car carrier up in Mountain. View. I was not aware that Mt. View closed 1 hour earlier than the Santa Clara store. Despite the fact that Akash was already in his car and ready to leave, he and the mechanic, Sola, described what had to be done, hooked me up and bid me farewell over an hour after they were officially closed. This kind of service is unheard of in my experience and should be noted as "OUTSTANDING". Thank you Akash, Sola and Budget for excellent customer service. read more
