Premium price for a below average product. Friends got us a gift card so we checked it out. The ribeyes were "trimmed" so one is paying for excess tip fat and the jerky flavor is pathetic, especially for charging $30 a pound. I've been to lots of little butcher shops across the country and this one is by far the most disappointing, I guess we should expect it in California and are spoiled in the Midwest and northwest with quality. read more

If I could give them ten stars I would. On my first visit I bought three bone in ribeye steaks, cowboy cut. These things were monsters. You've heard of farm to table, well these came from 100 yards away. Best darned steak I think I've ever had and didn't break the bank buying them. I was helped by a young woman, didn't get her name but she's been there the few time since that visit. Well, she has an smile and an attitude that could melt a glacier. If she told me the paint on the wall tasted good, I'd buy it. You just can't help feeling these folks love their shop. read more

We love this place. First time there and we will be back. Only place I know of for venison, elk, boar and gator. Prices are great and comparible to anywhere else. Prefer to get my meat somewhere I know its coming from a local ranch instead of a factory garbage farm. Got there buffalo franks and oh lord are they tasty. They also carry a pet food mix thats beef both my cat and dog love it and its so much cheaper then the pre-made raw at a pet store. Have not tried the rest of my haul elk sausage, cube steak and gator but looking forward to it. Also tried the boar jerky nommy. This place is love and great customer service. Drive way is skinny so be carefull. Theres also a very friendly donkey and horse you can say hi to. Only complaint is the day we wer there was 100 pluss and donkey and horse water was nothing but green sludge. read more

We have taking the majority of our wild game (deer, ducks, and pigs) to Bud's and after our last pick up we will not be returning. We were quoted $250 for ducks/geese that we brought in and were charged over $400 when we picked up the order. After expressing our frustration the lady stated she should not have originally quoted us because she didn't know the price. In the past 5 months we have spent over $1,000 getting our animals butchered and because they do not adequately provide quotes and are not willing to take a loss of $150 for their error we will not return. read more

I love this place, any time I needed a Tri-Tip or chicken breast to BBQ last minute for a good price I'd go here. Great selection of meats both marinated and not. Love the Bloody Mary!!! I can't believe it took me six years of living in Rohnert Park to discover this place. I've heard for years about how incredible Bud's meat is but I only recently went there myself. The meat is fresh and the selection is crazy! They have venison, jerky, marinated tri tips, and so much more! I got some jerky and a marinated tri tip. I cooked the tri tip for my boyfriend without telling him where I got it and he said it was the most incredible tri tip he had ever had. We are sold on this place and will try to get there anytime we can. read more

If you love game, then this is the place to go. It's so hard to even find game in a restaurant, that you have to buy it here & cook it at home. Luckily, my wife is a good cook. Some of the specialty items can get a bit pricey, but they have meat here that no one else has. It's too bad that these people don't open their own gourmet game restaurant for people who appreciate something different for a change! We've bought buffalo, elk & venison here, just to name a few. Dear Bud- Sorry I did not drop in sooner but I just found out that you existed last week! After only stepping foot in here just last weekend I can tell you I'm in love. Quality, fresh, local, (some) exotic, meats at great prices and a small yet good selection of jerky, rubs and sauces. Walked out happy as a clam with some boar, elk, smoked pork chops and a couple of rubs paying less than one of the many supermarkets in the area. I've been a customer for about a decade and love the place, never had a single negative experience. I worked for a Butcher when I was in highschool, the trained eye can see right away what type of business practices are employed... Bud's is 5 Star. The place I worked for was 3-Star. Matt (the owner) is a top tier professional who employs an excellent staff. They are very personal there, they remember faces and names and treat you like a friend once they get to know you a bit. Furthermore, Matt is a bit of good luck to those in the Sonoma County region as he has won State Awards for products that include his Bacons and smoked Pork Loin. Bud's carries dry-aged beef and that is not easy to find. Everything in the stores is wet-aged and believe me, on a prime cut of meat, this makes a BIG DIFFERENCE! Bud's carries a Prime Rib that is second to none and competitively priced with the wet-aged cuts you find in the supermarkets. Bud's carries a deep line of both Sausage and marinated Tri-Tips that are excellent. They also carry a pretty good line of exotics. Things like Elk, Ostrich and Buffalo. Buffalo is a great option for certain dietary needs as it is leaner than it's Cow counterpart and has a flavor that is a bit unique. They also carry a limited selection of Kobe Beef. Even the stupid stuff, things like Ground Beef. Think all ground beef is the same? Make your next hamburger out of their ground beef and figure out what the difference is. If you are a hunter, you probably already know about Bud's but if not, one of their primary services is processing and packaging. I've a customer for about a decade but a resident for about 15 years... Don't make the mistake I did for five years, drive by the place, look at the sign and say "I've got to check that place out one of these days"... Pull into the driveway. read more

Welcome to Meatopia! My family raised a pig this winter and brought it to Bud's for processing and butchering. The staff was professional, courteous and expertly handled the entire process. We met with our meat concierge and she walked us through our options for the butchering, curing, smoking, etc. We received exactly what we ordered and right when they told us it would be available. The bacon and hams have been outstanding and the other cuts were properly processed and packaged with care. Our entire order was made available to us frozen, wrapped and boxed for easy transport home. We also purchased sausages, jerky, beef short ribs, and pork baby backs that were among the best I have ever tasted. Do not miss out on this carnivore's paradise. I am a 12 year veteran of the Bud's tritip, I have to say they are the most complimented meat at any BBQ or event we have ever had. Recently though, they have stepped it up even higher, though I did not think it was possible, with the introduction of the Bourbon Tritip....holy mother of Pearl is this thing good. In a nutshell, Bud's is a fantastic place to go to buy great beef, pork, poultry and wild game. They age their beef 14 days and will go up to 21-day on some special orders. The beef steaks, tri-tips and ground are great and much better than anything you'll find at your standard grocery store. I picked up a couple of the American Kobe Beef steaks for a special occasion and it was so good that almost chewed my bottom lip off. You can pick up buffalo in the form of steaks, tri-tips (plain or marinated), ground, or franks. If you haven't tried buffalo, you're doing your tastebuds an injustice. It's very lean and not very gamey tasting. They have standard and organic whole standard fryer chickens as well as breasts and thighs in different marinades. The wild boar and apple, fire roasted elk, and hot venison sausages are fantastic, especially the fire roasted elk. It is wise to ask if you don't see something stocked in the freezers because they might have more in the back freezer. In addition to the packaged meat products in the freezers, they also sell beef, pork and lamb in quarters, halves, whole that can be cut to your liking. This is great for families or folks with a good sized freezer. I actually found out about Bud's because a friend sold us one of their spring lambs which Bud's processed and packaged. I can't forget the staff. They are all very nice and extremely helpful. Even if you live a distance away like I do, it's worth the drive. I love those Traeger wood pellet grills for sale outside but already have a very nice charcoal/wood grill. One day... read more

Very excited about this find! I stopped by to pick up some meat of a 4H animal (sad, I know) and was so surprised by this hidden gem! The meat selection is out of this world and you can tell it's all extremely quality! I didn't get to look around too much but I'm excited to go back with my boyfriend and my dad! What's not to love about this place? Bud's is a one stop shop for local and exotic meats. Their prices are very reasonable and their customer service is outstanding. I have always purchased items from their stand at the local farmer's market in Santa Rosa, but today I visited the store on Petaluma Hill Rd. I love all the marinated meat options and it makes for such a delicious and easy dinner. My favorites are the Bloody Mary and Southwestern chicken breasts/thighs, the Kahlua Coffee Tri Tip, and the Bourbon Tri Tip. Thanks Bud's!! read more

This place is literally in our backyard. It looked sketchy; for weeks we eyed it, and finally mustered up the courage to head up the 1 lane road to what we believed would be someone's house. No, he has an actual shop, and oh my god I will never buy costco meat again. I picked up elk rib chops to start. The frozen meats are sealed up - no freezer burn - and the quality incomparable. I seared the chops and we literally ate every morsel off the bones. The bloody mary marinated tri-tip - to die for. BBQ pork ribs - so tender. Every week I hope to go up there for our special treat. Bud's does the butchering for Clark Summit Farms, where I buy my beef and pork from. For a recent pork order, I requested all the back and leaf fat. Animal fat is especially important to me: I eat a low-carb diet, and animal fat is 2/3 of my calories. So, lard and tallow are condiments for most of my meals. For whatever reason, when I went to pick up my order, there wasn't any fat packaged with the order. After searching a bit, Matt (the owner) gave me a large package of fat that he said was usually for the shop's use (sausages, I guess). I was delighted with his generosity! Processed meat products are a high-margin item for a butcher, so Matt's gift meant a chunk of money out of the store's pocket. And, as others have mentioned, Bud's has a selection of exotic packaged meats. I always look for the venison summer sausage whenever I go there. Bud's butchered the whole pig we bought from a local farm. The quality of the work was excellent- everything wrapped seperately and marked clearly. There were a lot of cuts I never would have learned to cook, and it was a wonderful learning experience But I have to say the parts they hot smoked were simply great. We got 4 wonderful hams, and 4 ham shanks. You can't understand what a ham should taste like until you have Bud's butcher and smoke a heritage pig. Stop buying grocery store pork. I am so sad that I have spent my life without this place. If a garden is a vegetarian heaven... then surely this store is a meat-lover's heaven. Every kind of cut imaginable is ready for you to take home in their neatly displayed refrigerators. Their prices are considerably reasonable considering it's local and what I would consider specialty meat. I got three packs of bacon and two packs of sausages all for $27 (one of those packs was elk sausage!). I'm excited to go back and try more! read more

Best place for grass fed beef and meats. It is a journey but well worth the trip.

If you want a walk back in time to what a true meat dept. used to be. The place is in a small building set way back off Petaluma hill rd but worth the drive. When you walk in the smell tells you your are in meat lovers paradise. Pork in all its many forms. Beef nuff said. They also had some bison and venison. I can truly vouch for the Bloody Mary tri tip. I can't wait to have more, puts all others to shame. This is immensely popular item as it was bought by both customers in front and behind us. It's a little pricey so I will be going there when a need a great cut for a special meal. read more
