Customer Service: outstanding. I walked in with two of my little ones, a worker from behind the counter came over and gave some outstanding recommendations, which led to my purchase. Meat: 1 cowgirl bone in New York strip, which was phenomenal on my Kamado Joe. Then a Cowboy bone in rib-eye that was off the charts. We had two pigs slaughtered and processed by Bud's a couple of months ago. Cameron did an excellent and efficient job completing the slaughter at our place. When I went to pick up the processed meat at Bud's, the pig heart I requested be set aside and frozen for dog food had somehow been misplaced. Multiple people went above and beyond to track down another heart for me to bring home, even when I told them that it wasn't a big deal (my dog gets plenty of treats). Amazing customer service at a reasonable price. We will definitely be back! read more

Small little country butcher shop. Up a one lane driveway. Ended up with some alligator fillets. I will be back though for the lamb shanks. Good size and great price! Their website needs a little updating as I asked about the kangaroo meat and it's been regulated for about a year so they can't get it and sell it anymore. They also have bones for Fido if you have one. Not open Sundays. They also do game processing if you are a hunter and are looking to get it done instead of doing it yourself. read more

Came to buy pork casing and pork to make sausage. It is our first time making it. We came with a few question. First of all we waited in the store for about 5 minutes while 3 women talked in the back never said hi or can we help you. I asked for some help and the lady seemed so annoyed. She acted as if all my questions were so weird, and had no idea what I was taking about, really unfriendly and made me feel like I was totally putting her out. Well thanks but no thanks, won't be going there again. One last thing, I remember when our daughter had her pig processed by them and I thought the same thing. Oh what a great deal!!! Just got back from Buds Meats, got 1 package of spicy Hawaiian sausage with pineapple & 2 packages of jalapeño cheese sausage which by the way is amazing! Its a must try yes it is a little spicy but not hot! just flavorful! come on you can take it! And 5 pounds of bloody Mary marinated chicken breast, and 1 Cowgirl bone in New York strip and bone in means more flavor oh yeah! Even their "budget cuts" take whatever you can get from a supermarket like Safeway, Raleys, or yes - Whole Foods or Petaluma Market - and wipe the floor with 'em. And don't even get me started on their Prime cuts. Prime rib for the holidays? Five minutes a pound at 500, then turn it off and walk away, come back to the BEST prime rib I have EVER had. The prime ribeyes? Ermagherd. Bonus points for a plethora - nay, a SMORGASBORD - of various exotic meats if you're into that sort of thing. Feeling like snake for dinner? Bud's has you covered. Natural fed variety of meats from a local small business operation. Fantastic! I usually pick up a variety of jerky and sausages. The fresh beef for burgers and their bacon outstanding. Super friendly staff. I also pickup the fresh ground dog food for my feisty 3 legged guardian dog. I mix it with his dry food as he gulps it down. Great place to get not the normal stuff. Went in with a Spanish Serrano ham wanted to see if maybe they could cut it for us. It was whole and rather large. It was sent to us from a relative in Spain. Wonderful customer service. Cut it into manageable portion sizes. They have bones for your dogs. Just a cool place to check out. Would recommend ! read more

Bud's is a family run, local butcher shop. In fact, it's so local some of the animals they process are right out back in the field. They have a lot of sausage and marinated meat choices. A lot of their stuff is frozen, which is totally fine. You just have to take that into consideration if you are picking something up for the grill that same day. I purchased some polish sausage, Santa Maria marinated boneless chicken, and jerky. All were great purchases. They have various cuts of beef, a large sausage selection, chicken, pork, and lamb. Most of the product is vacuum packaged, so it can be frozen easily. It's a little off the beaten path, but they have a big sign out on Petaluma Hill Road. Just follow the dirt road back to the large parking area. Of course, fresh, high quality meat is not cheap, so be prepared to pay a fair price. Definitely worth another visit next time I am in the area. read more

I hesitate to tell this in public, but once upon a time I was.........a vegetarian. I KNOW, I know, the collective gasp across the yelpsphere was enough to wake the dead, but it's true. Thankfully this story has a happy ending; as I've been in recovery from vegetarianism for over 4 years. Cue the applause- Now that I do eat meat, I tend to be more selective than I was previously on what types of meat I do consume. Thankfully Bud's is a short drive from home, and gives me everything I need to stay on task with the meat. I'm sure everyone in the place laughs at me once I leave, but I don't care! It's totally worth it. My go-to's are vast: gotta have the grass-fed filet mignon, the chicken pesto sausages, the rack of lamb, and the best of the best is the grass-fed beef marrow. With these magical buddies I get the guys at buds to slice open for me even though they're frozen, so that I can roast them and serve them pretty to my dinner guests. Delicious (albeit an acquired taste), and so easy. The guys even do special orders, I just let them know what I want, grass-fed stew meat, stroganoff or fajita cuts, or even steaks, and they call me when it's packaged and ready to go. The last time I was there, I picked up some cowboy candy, which is a slightly sweet jerky, and some salmon jerky which was absolutely delicious. The best part of this experience for me, is that I'm supporting a local small business, and not handing over my paychecks to safeway, when there's an absolutely delightful business right here on Petaluma Hill Road that does it better, healthier, and local. I had driven by the Bud's Meat sign for over half my life but myself and my family never bothered to try them until this xmas. My parents ordered a 12lb prime rib and it was almost perfect. With the huge hunk of meat came simple instructions for cooking and a bag of spice rub. I consulted a bevy of food sites to compare other recipes and cooking methods and came up with a hybrid approach. I used the included rub and added some extra pepper and maple sugar. But in the end the roast was marvelous! The ends were crisp and salty, the middle was pink and delicious, and the meat around the six giant ribs was rare and packed with beautiful ribby flavor. I'm starting to buy more and more of my meats at Bud's vs. the store.. You seriously can't beat anything you get here. Yes, you pay a little bit more, but it's sooooooo worth it! I've been coming here for over ten years! I absolutely love love love this place. The bloody Mary tri tip is the best meat of all time. We get a couple of these for every major BBQ or cookout and people fawn over it. Cook on indirect heat until the interior temp hits 130-135 F depending on your desired cook. Rest 10 mins. Buds takes all of the venison from the hunting season and makes a large batch of sausage. That means you have to wait months to get your sausage. You don't get to eat the deer you brought in. I take a lot of time to care for my meat and I don't want the meat of someone else's deer. I've gotten bone in my sausage from them as well. But the last straw was having a FLY in my sausage (see picture). Yes they packaged a fly in with my meat. After going to another butcher I realized how bad the service was at buds compared to other local butchers. I will never bring any wild game here again. read more

Read the reviews on this place so decided to try it. Reallly? I don't know what people were writing about but I was NOT impressed with this butcher and I have used a few. Had a full beef cut up. First off, the meat we had cut and wrapped was terrible. Not sure if someone new vac sealed it and they tried to fix it or what, but original plastic all scrunched up in the reseal, some unselaed packs, etc. We also had a lot of hot dogs done. What a waste of money! These were absolutely not edible as hot dogs due to the very hard casing on them. I thought I was supposed to remove the casing maybe but no, it is actually the casing they use. Could not even eat them. Was able to use some as beef sausage in soup but the majority of them were cut up and used as dog food. VERY expensive dog food!!! Was totally ticked off about the hot dogs because we BBQ alot with burgers and dogs. Lastly, not sure we got the full amount of meat but I can't swear to that because I didn't fully inventory it and I should have. I would suggest if you do use them, that you double check what you get. Will never use these folks again! read more

The owner finally emailed me back and told me that the air was ok in the packages and we should eat the meat that has air in it within a couple of months but it's a half a cows worth of meat. We are a family of 3. The date on the packages is January 4, 2022 and we told him about the air and freezer burn in February. There should not be any freezer burn in our brand new meat. Requested a refund but I'm thinking that's not going to happen. The owner Matt sent me pictures of the meat in there freezer at his store saying the meat packages are in the perimeter of air allowance. Well it's not so much the air as the freezer burn which is caused by air. So far 75% of the meat we had packaged, except for the hamburger (packaged in round plastic casing) has air and freezer burn. Don't know how we're supposed to eat a half a cow 300lbs of meat in a "couple of months" as he suggested. I'm going to have to can the meat or dry it. Be warned...also our package of oxtails was really freezer burnt and for some reason the date on that is a Dec. 17, 2021. They didn't package our cow till Jan. 4 2022. That was also odd to me. read more

This is my fav meat shop in Sonoma county. I can get everything from them. I just picked up a 15 lb prime brisket. I've gotten tri tip and ribs from them before as well. Is it as cheap as Costco? No. Would I rather get it from the local guy? Absolutely. If they don't have it readily available--say a certain cut of meat--they will cut you a fresh one. I can't wait to smoke this brisket! I'd been dying to go here for soooooo long. I seemed to always stop by randomly when they were closed. Finally, after hearing such a great review of the eclectic rare meat selection from a friend (Elk, Venison, Alligator, Ostrich, Rabbit, etc) I knew I just had to make a point to stop by when they were open. Today I called at 9 am and they let me know they were open (today = Saturday) until 5 pm. When we followed the signs and started going down a small road appearing like a driveway I laughed at all the cute small signs posted on top of the fencing. One sign that I remember well was stating hick parking only! Another sign showed a bull outline with something witty. It really does feel like you're driving to someone's house with all the twists and turns, and the passing of a house on the right side. When we pulled up to the lot my boyfriend said "Wow, this place is busy." Really there were only a handful of trucks but even so, people walking out with arms full of bagged meats and whatever else fit their fancy. I also noted they have some smokers on site and sell accompanying charcoals and wood. These included mesquite, maple, and more. When we entered the shop it reminded me of Willowside, where there isn't much walking room and has an array of fridges and freezers to choose selection from. The difference between Willowside's meats though, is there is no case in the front at Buds with fresh meat. There is a nice selection that seems ever rotating and I thought the pricing was a little cheaper at Buds than Willowsides for the comparable meats. Otherwise, when I went there was a selection of Kobe cuts, Alligator medalions, Elk, Bison, Venison, Rabbit, Lamb, Pork, and Beef. The special today was 4.99/lb ground grass fed beef. I picked up a full ready to eat rabbit (I plan to make Rabbit Proscuitto, look me up and I'll share the recipe) for $26, some banger like sausages, and a couple of veal scallopini cuts. All in all it was around 30 something dollars, which I didn't think was too hefty, especially since the Rabbit was large ($7.99/lb) enough to feed at least two to three people in a full course meal. My boyfriend picked up two different kinds of jerky. The bloody-mary marinated beef (medal winner it said) and a venison kind. The venison was sweet and finished with a peppercorn bite. I noted that both kinds used powdered soy sauce, honestly which I've never heard of. So I thought that interesting. We have yet to try the beef version. The most notable to me of all though is no nitrites or nitrates and also no preservatives. A BIG plus in my book. So that equals the most freshest taste in mind! I'm excited to go back and hopefully find some ostrich. My friend tells me it's like the most tender filet mignon which I am a huge fan of. And of course to get more Rabbit, check out some Kobe ($25/lb), and dig into some venison sausages and steak cuts. Oh and get a ham during the next holiday, maybe Easter?! This place gets my thumbs up and more than 5 stars if I could give it. read more

This is an excellent meat shop and I would go back to get their regular fare if it weren't so far from where I live. I ordered a lamb from a local rancher and they delivered to Bud's to do the butchering. Bud's called me to confirm how I wanted the meat cut and whether or not I wanted the offal. I said yes to offal, but by the time I arrived they must have thrown it out already, because all I got were the kidneys. The lamb was delivered alive, or so that's what I take it to mean that they charged me a "kill fee", but just the kidneys survived to my freezer. No bones either. They also cut round bone steaks off the leg which was a disappointment. I specified that the leg be kept whole and one of the joys of lamb for me is smoking a whole leg on the grill, so... another demerit The meat was very well prepared, cut expertly, no complaints there. They were careful with glands and such so the meat didn't take on any more gaminess than is there naturally, which my wife appreciated. One other thing that counts as a ding for me is that they only wrapped the meat in paper before freezing. Hello, selling a whole animal to a consumer, freezing it down on site yourself, and only wrapping in paper? Did they think I'd be eating the whole lamb in two weeks? I had to vacuum seal the whole batch myself when I got home, so not impressed with that. I've been to other butchers that process whole animals and never have I gotten my shipment wrapped in paper. read more
