Easily one of my favorite places to eat -- and sometimes, just grab a cocktail, in all of Buffalo. Apps are on point -- some are innovative and some are classic steakhouse. Same goes for steaks and sides. I enjoy a filet, as where most classic steakhouse guys will tell you "ribeye, ribeye, ribeye." I'm a filet guy. Came here with family while visiting Buffalo to take the bar exam. First - The ambiance is incredible. Very nice decor and the seating is cool, with some tables on the top floor, which looks down to the bottom floor and bar. Huge comfy chairs and nice vintage photos hanging Second - excellent staff. Our waiter was very friendly and knew the menu very well and was able to point us all in the right direction. Third - The food!! Excellent! I have eaten steak at many of the best places - Gallagher's Las Vegas, Gallagher's NYC, Shula's Virginia and NYC, Chicago Chop House, Old Homestead Atlantic City, Delmonico etc. And I can honestly say that this steak was top 3 easily! I ordered the KC strip, which had the bone in. It was incredible! Cooked perfectly with a light char. I also enjoyed oysters and lobster. Both very good. This is a late note. I visited the restaurant on December 31, 2022, around 6:00 PM (rainy/cold evening). It was four (4) of us. We placed our order, and two had the Prime Rib dinner, one Fillet Mignon, and the other some Chicken Lyonnese. We were told by the waiter that they only cook the steaks well done or medium rare. So two of us asked for a well-done. My prime rib came fine. The one who ordered the fillet Mignon was rare, although she asked for well done. The second 12oz prime rib was a third of the fat, horrible piece. Later a host (I guess= came to the table and asked how dinner was. The pricey piece of meat could not have been more enjoyable due to the amount of fat (a third of the prime rib was fat). He said Ï would let them know¨ and NEVER return. We also mentioned it to the waiter and said nothing. For a so call upscale restaurant. It left us with a bad taste in the way that our plead for better was dismissed and ignored after $470. I went last night as a walk in, although the food was great the service was here and there. I got wine and wasn't asked if i wanted a bottle or glass. I wanted a bottle and therefore was charged for both. I asked for extra dressing on the side of my Caesar salad and it wasn't there. It seemed it was added right on the salad, drowning it in dressing. Are server was very very nice, thats not the problem at all. I just expect every little detail to be correct when I spend $300 on dinner. If I want mediocre service I would've gone anywhere else in Buffalo. I asked for extra bread to go home with. My spouse and I planned a nice night out to celebrate my birthday and what better place to go then Buffalo Chophouse. The ambience of the restaurant was impeccable; beautiful decorations all throughout. When we walked in we were in awe, a very classy establishment. We were greeted by a lovely hostess who brought us to our table upstairs, where we were sat across from one another looking forward to what we thought be a delicious meal. The wine comes out along with the bread, our waiter is friendly, but not great. We are not bothered, still having a great time, so far so good, right? A few minutes later the individual who is responsible for the water comes by to fill up my spouses glass. Water filled up to perfection, he goes to place silverware on our table, and completely fumbles the entire bottle of wine all over my spouses my dress. Not just a glass, not just a minor spill, I'm talking the entire bottle all over her brand new outfit she specifically bought for this night out. Well after 20 minutes of my spouse cleaning herself off, the water boy comes by to apologize, our waiter explains they will comp the bottle of wine and we "can have as much wine as we could drink". Mistakes happen, and we are not the type of people to cause a fuss. At this point my spouse is sitting in wet clothes, but we still will not let this ruin our night, we are here to celebrate, so we stayed. Our dinners come out, bone in filet and filet cooked to medium rare, I mean they were good steaks but not spectacular and certainly not equivalent to how much they cost. Not to mention they had no 32 oz Rib-eye and no Delmonico, these two alone were the main reasons we came! The sides were not very good, some of the most mediocre asparagus and baked potato I've ever had! For the price of the meal you'd think they would step it up, but not at the Buffalo Chophouse. I truly believe the manager took advantage of us because we were a younger couple, but they should've comped the entire meal. This is supposed to be the best steakhouse in Buffalo and this is how you repay us, with a $80 gift card and "endless wine" that we couldn't even enjoy because my spouse was sitting their in wet clothes. Outside of the wine catastrophe; and the subpar waiter, the food wasn't even really that great. For the price, probably one of the least enticing deals for a steakhouses in the area. Needless to say we will not be returning anytime soon. The cost of the outfit alone was more then the comped wine and $80 gift-card, but I'm sure if we were older things would have been different. I'd like to give them a second chance but after one of the worst experiences I've ever had in any steakhouse it is not likely. After a $200 dinner, and an unhappy spouse, my recommendation is your money is much better spent somewhere else. read more

If you want excellent service (although the waiters' presentations could be stepped down a notch), very well prepared steaks and chops, and an interesting decor, then you will find it here. There's a reason this restaurant is generally busy - people like it. It is expensive, but what good steakhouse isn't. You will get plenty of food to eat and take home. Great decor and atmosphere - typical big city steak house (e.g., dark woods, white table cloths, great chair coverings, lots on the walls. The staff was excellent. Seated immediately without reservations (jacket definitely not required - in fact I was in jeans and a sport shirt). Waiter was informative, and gave honest opinions about appetizers when asked, recommended good wine choices from their by-the-glass list - their by-the-bottle list was fabulous, including a Grange for about $250, but I wasn't buying expensive bottles tonight. My wife ordered the filet and I ordered the strip steak, both medium rare. Both were cooked more medium than medium rare, but that was fine. Side-by-side the strip had more slightly more flavor and texture, the filet was much more tender and still very flavorful. I preferred the filet, and with the crust it was terrific. And the 10 oz portion was still a huge steak. The only think I wasn't a fan of was finishing it in butter. A lot of steak houses do this, and this preparation was excellent, but I admit I prefer Morton's, which doesn't finish in butter. Ruths Chris finishes their steaks the same way and if you like them then you'll love the Chop House steaks. The twice-baked potato was fine, but I wouldn't bother with it again. I was up in Buffalo, from Florida for a few days in October and decided to take my daughter, who lives in the area to dinner. The food was awesome, however, the traditional Valet was non-existent, and the interior of the restaurant was very cold! I had to eat my meal wearing the light storm jacket I brought with me. Dark Pink, almost cool center, and so tender, that I didn't need a knife to cut through; came with mashed potatoes (that were dry and bland) and broccoli (also bland and too crunchy) - but I didn't come to the "Chop House" for mashed potatoes and broccoli so lack luster sides is "acceptable" Desert: Bananas Foster (this I shared with my friend) We both agreed, good choice. And HUMONGOUS, portion. As it was a group meal, we shared a bottle of wine, all the details I remember it was a Red, Full Bodied and tasted amazing - no idea about the cost, but the wine connoisseur at the table (he lived in Italy for 4 years, so I think he gets this title by default) said that the wine selection was lengthy and worldly. Our group appetizers were a dozen oysters on the half shell and 6 strips of Apple Wood Smoked Bacon. I forgot the name of the Oysters, but they were from Washington State, delicately sweet and served with some type of cucumber sauce. I didn't have any of the bacon - but come on, it's bacon - you can't screw up bacon... My friend enjoyed the exact same special I did. He ordered his steak Medium and it was spot on; he also agreed the potatoes were, "meh potatoes" and doesn't eat broccoli so took my word for it being "lack luster" My other friends both ordered the Seared Tuna and ate all 16 ounces of it. They said it was absolutely amazing! Both were cooked to the exact temperature they asked for. The also ate their Asian themed sides.... No one else ordered deserts, but we did order a round of lemon-cello. This was served in wine glasses and needed to be 5 degrees colder. Both my coworkers order decaf espresso's (ironic) - and slurped them down without complaint. Dinner was served with a warmed bread basket full of wheat and white rolls, sparkling or still water, and a small dish of feta cheese, olives and banana peppers. I came here last year for my birthday. It happened to fall on restaurant week. I had the applewood smoked bacon appetizer and the prime rib entree. The bacon was crispy and the steak was tender. The steak was a good size. I could only finish half my meal. It was a bit overwhelming when I entered the steakhouse. Beautiful place with a piano and bar. The service was good. The waiter was knowledgeable. I'm always impressed when my bread crumbs are removed. There is valet parking so I didn't need to worry about street parking. Went for our 10 year anniversary. Had made reservations weeks in advance but still took almost 45 mins to be seated. Not a huge deal except for the fact that we were starving. When we were seated, we were put in a great little spot that seemed to be reserved for couples having a special occasion. It was very private and nice, so all is forgiven regarding the wait. Went to this restaurant during restaurant week and glad I did because the quality of food for the premium price was not worth it if I went any other time. The Filet Mignon was tender and good with a great rub, however the Lobster Bisque was not very good and the sides either. It was a great first time experience with the service and the oversized gothic style seating. I got to hear a interesting history of the building being haunted from a server and that probably was the best part, hearing the weird funny stories. Interesting dog paintings on the walls upstairs. NO reviews for one of Croce's fine establishments? I went here many times... maybe once a month or every other month? I guess you could say it was or is the number one steakhouse in Buffalo but there weren't many other steakhouses. Unless you count the Outback on every corner. After eating steaks from Mortons and Cityhall, I recognize once again, since there weren't many higher class eating establishments in Buffalo, the best of the best wasn't usually the best. I love steak either way, so I was never disappointed. But if I went back today, I probably would be. But hey, Dita always got a steak when we went and she enjoyed it! (She was my dog) Another thing, that always bothered me and still does to this day ... So Chophouse isn't soley responsible for my annoyance... is that just because a young looking couple or group comes into your "high end" establishment doesn't mean we can't afford your meat or a tip for your below par service. Sadly we used to love this place but not anymore. We arrived and followed all COVID protocol exactly as instructed. We were sat at the worst table basically in the silverware/custodial area. I could barely hear my date. Our waiter never asked us if we wanted another drink (therefore, hurting himself because the more we bought obviously the more his tip would have gone up..) The ambiance was very strange. It was as if they were trying to be "fancy" but were failing at it. Of course, it is a nice restaurant but we have been to plenty nicer. Sat at the bar in town on business and I thought this place had a great old school steakhouse vibe. Really liked the decor and the service was top notch. Borderline too much. When I have a mouthful of potatoes you do not need to ask me for the second time if the food was okay... Obviously it is... Had the filet mignon oscar with au gratin potatoes. Both very good. Heard a lot about this place... It was even quoted as being one of the ten best steak houses in the U.S. by United Airlines Magazine... Had to try it out after a trip back East for Christmas and a day at Niagara Falls. The Tenderloin was tasty and we went through three bottles of wine... You can even order a couple bottles of "Screaming Eagle" vino so I would say the place is pretty "High End." The staff was excellent. Its a little dark in the place and we sat on the third floor. I think its an old theater that was made into a restaurant if I remember correctly... It is "spendy" to say the least and I can name four steak houses in Seattle that are just as good: Jaks Grill, The Met, Buenos Aries Grill and Daniel's Broiler. Old school, "quintessential" steakhouse serving exactly the type of dishes you'd expect from a restaurant called "Buffalo Chop House." Very high-status decor with rich woods and colors, expensive looking china, white tablecloths and dimmed lighting. Lovely business professionals sit at the bar, talking business and drinking business-like cocktails... You get the picture. The food was precisely what I expected it to be: rich, saucy, well executed and abundant. The steak was great and so was the wine I had with it. The service was safe, slightly stuffy yet educated and kind, although not incredibly personable. Their thorough wine list boasts quite a bit of variety and style. Bring your grandpa or rich uncle who wants to pick up the bill and get a good dose of butter and animal blood. You can't go wrong. read more

We were two couples who came for Restaurant Week....it was the first visit for 3 out of 4 of us and we had a great experience. Despite being Saturday night during Restaurant Week, everyone from including the Valet, Hostesses, Bartenders, Servers...even staff who were just walking by, smiled and greeted you. Service from start to finish is five star and it was super busy. We ordered appetizers, 2 bottles of wine and prime rib off of the Restaurant Week menu and everything was fabulous. Despite the prime rib being s smaller thinner cut on the special it was cooked perfectly for everyone at the table. The decor inside the restaurant is beautiful, the food was perfectly cooked and delicious and the staff was incredible. My Waiter was funny, nice and full of energy. He was so good, I gave him a 25% tip. We went for a birthday celebration, we ordered Stuffed Peppers and Guantanamo Bay Oysters for an appetizer and they were both soooo Good.. Very fresh and presentable.
