The two sauces were a buffalo/blue cheese and a Thai chili. Both were great and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. We had the NY Strip which was phenomenal and the Waygu special which was just okay. Would try something else next time. As our side we picked the lobster Mac and cheese which was really good and again beautiful display. It was plenty for us to have leftover for a few days. We chose this restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday and made that clear at every step. I noted it when making the reservation, again when confirming the reservation, and again when we arrived. We weren't expecting a free meal or anything extravagant. We simply hoped the restaurant would acknowledge the occasion in some small way--a candle, a birthday greeting, or a simple dessert. Instead, nothing was done. At the end of the meal, I mentioned it to our server and was surprised by the dismissive and somewhat condescending response: "We don't do free birthdays." That completely missed the point. This was never about getting something for free. It was about creating a special moment for celebrating my husband's birthday. I spoke with the manager afterward and received essentially the same response. The lack of thoughtfulness was disappointing, but the attitude was even more so. A birthday only comes once a year, and a small gesture costing pennies could have made the evening memorable. Instead, the celebration felt overlooked, unimportant and even worse liked they did not care at all. The food may have been fine, but for a restaurant that knew in advance we were celebrating a birthday, the experience left us incredilby disappointed. read more

I love Chophouse! It is always a nice treat when I go. They do have specials which I like to try. My favorite thing to get here is honestly their crème brûlée. They are a little tucked away in the back due to their parking lot in the front but it's well worth it. The sides are also great and can be shared amongst a few people. When you walk in, you feel like you're in a old English pub looking around at the huge expanse of Bar and all the overhead and just the beautiful wood and very proper seating. The restaurant really has a very large amount of space and could see many a party if needed. The drinks we had were exceptional, I'm looking at you, Mediterranean Mule! We had a large party and ordered several different kinds of appetizers, including oysters, and calamari. All of it was exceptional, and the display was perfect perfection. I ended up going with the 8 ounce fillet and the jumbo shrimp, with a side of peppercorn sauce. It was perfectly cooked, medium, rare, and the shrimp were outstanding! I wanted to make this 4 1/2 stars as dinner was delicious. Two things I did not like was that when we ordered the baked potato as a side, our waiter asked us if we wanted "the works" without mentioning that there is an upcharge. "The works" is not on the menu so we did not expect that choice. It's not a big upcharge, but it should have been mentioned. The huge 1/2 baked potato comes automatically with chopped scallions, extra butter and sour cream, on the side. The Works is bacon and cheese, already inside the potato half. The other semi-negative comment is that I initially thought the filet mignon was perfectly seasoned, not salty, but there were some bites around the edge of the meat that were very salty. Most of my filet was just perfect, as was the incredibly rich potato. Very nice dinner rolls; even though there were two of us, there were three warm rolls in the basket. Unusual. read more

The complimentary valet parking is a nice addition to the experience, no need to find street parking. We were sat at a table upstairs in their main dining room, very old-school regal feeling. Our waiter was attentive and helped guide us in the right direction with drinks/dinner. We started with a couple classics: dirty martini and old fashioned. Both very good. Then went onto a couple ceasar salad's to start. I ordered the NY Strip special that was on the menu that night, and it was cooked to perfection. That's exactly how it was served. Well seasoned too, not overdone. As a side we had the big baked potato. It comes with chives, sour cream and butter. We had an amazing experience for my birthday recently! The service was great and the waiter was very knowledgeable about the food. Also about the history. He told us this was a carriage house back back in the 1800s. The steak was tender and melt in your mouth. The sides are massive, we ordered 2 because we wanted to try them and had plenty to take home and eat for dinner the next day! We ordered the chocolate cake for dessert, which is again MASSIVE. It's not a slice it's like a whole cake. We were so full and we felt like we didn't even make a dent. The bar is fabulous with ample seating. We were seated in the adjoining building space on the second floor. It was quite nice because we did not feel crowded in with other diners. We ordered drinks (lemonade and a Pinot Grigio, and a bottle of red wine--a nice, reasonably priced Pinot Noir. For appetizers, we ordered the flying shrimp, which was nicely presented, a French Onion Soup, and the Stuffed Peppers. The shrimp were super yummy, as were the peppers which we all shared. My husband said the french onion soup was delicious! Then for our entrees we ordered the Salmon and various steaks. For my steak, I ordered the Delmonico, medium rare, with shrimp and the Gorgonzola sauce. The Steak was very sizeable and perfectly cooked. Tender on the inside and a great crunchy char on the outside. The shrimp were huge and succulent, and the sauce, simply delicious. Our friend wanted to order the Gorgonzola Sauce too, but she wasn't sure she would like it so the waiter kindly brought her a sample! We ordered sides of sautéed mushrooms and broccolini for the table and we each had a baked potato. Seriously, they were the biggest baked potatoes I have ever seen. Our friend got the loaded baked potato and it could have fed the whole table! I really enjoyed my baked potato and just ordered it with butter and sour cream. Yum. I could only eat a quarter of it as it was humongous. I could also only eat about a third of my steak, so both went home with me for another meal. Everyone else raved about their steaks and the Salmon as well, and again, they each went home with another meal. For dessert, we ordered the mile high chocolate cake for two and the bananas foster. The Cake was like one quarter of a cake, enough for a table of 4, and the bananas foster was absolutely scrumptious. In all, this was a great meal......very memorable. The service was also outstanding. The damage was about $600 before tip, so about $180 each, when all was said and done wirh gratuity. I would highly recommend a meal at this restaurant, even though it was pricey!! Eating out these days is generally expensive, so it is wonderful when the experience and the food justifies the cost. read more

I walked back into the Chophouse like a man who had unfinished business with a steak. The flying shrimp appetizer kicked things off. They didn't actually fly, but if they had, I would've chased them with zero shame. Crispy, perfect, gone almost immediately because I have no self control when food tastes that good. Then the steak arrived. So tender I'm convinced it was raised on positive affirmations and spa days. The salmon came right after, buttery and cooked so perfectly that I briefly considered writing it a thank-you note. Everett was handling service again, and I'm now fully convinced he has superpowers. Drinks never hit the halfway point. Plates vanish at the exact moment you think "huh, I'm done with that." He's a hospitality ninja. Then the manager slid over with the greatest plot twist in dining history: "Dessert's on us." Suddenly I'm sitting there with a sundae and bananas foster like I've just won a culinary lottery. The bananas foster lit up like it was performing for an audience, and I was absolutely cheering on the inside. Let's hope this got me on the fridge again! The food was absolutely delicious and the service is great. That mile high chocolate cake is 10/10, better than most bakeries. I had the bone in ribeye unfortunately it was a little tough wish I had gotten the Delmonico. My husband and son had the Delmonico and it was delicious and tender. All of the sides were great. FIVE Stars! From the staff to the service to the food, it was a wonderful experience. When I called to make the reservation, the young hostess couldn't have been lovely. She accommodated me on short notice. When we got there. We were greeted by several hostesses, and helped to our table. The restaurant is accessible and has clean accessible restrooms. Our server. Ruben was professional. As was his assistant. They made suggestions and offered recommendations. The roles were fresh and melted in your mouth. The butter was straight from the farm. I had the wedge salad, and I will be remembering it for weeks to come. My steak was cooked to perfection. I particularly enjoyed how they seen it and charred and sealed it on the outside. The homemade potato chips were phenomenal. The building looks to be very old and has incredible architectural design and character. I think it's a brick building with interesting wooden beams, a beautiful staircase with red iron handrail and it reminded me of a 1920s. Speak easy. It was a beautiful setting, and a very relaxing place to enjoy a wonderful dinner with a colleague. It was not too noisy, not too quiet, not too crowded and really afforded a perfect dinner. Had a really wonderful birthday dinner at Buffalo Chophouse late last year. I was able to eat to my heart's content and did! Starting with one of my all time favorite dishes, Beef Tartare, was a treat in of itself! I then enjoyed a delicious cup of French Onion Soup followed by the 32 oz. Ribeye. I enjoyed the steak but unfortunately it was not the star of the show. I wish there was a bit more marbling and that it was truly cooked to order (rare). For sides, we thoroughly enjoyed the Au Gratin potato special and the creamed corn - well worth the prices on those. Our server, Zaria W., was very attentive and accommodating and even ran over to the table when she thought my dining companion was choking, turns out he was just laughing very hard. In terms of ambiance, this is one of the nicer establishments in downtown Buffalo! Want to talk about romantic setting - we even witnessed a proposal at a nearby table which was so sweet! There is a birthday special/promo - free entre (up to $50; Show your ID with a birthday that is within 1 week before or after your the date of your dinner). Last night was my second visit to the Buffalo Chophouse, the first time more than a few years ago. Daughter and son-in-law were in favor of the Chophouse, still well known for the free birthday entrée with the purchase of an entrée, and yesterday was my birthday. Thank you. Complimentary valet parking is a nice touch. Tipping the attendant feels better than paying a fixed valet fee. Sounds better, too. Friendly and courteous staff. There doesn't seem to be a dress code. I wore shorts and a mildly dressy top. I saw men with ties, and men without ties. Be comfortable could be the subtext of the Buffalo Chophouse. Come in, sit down, be comfortable. But now down to business. It's not an extensive menu, though I understand some items get changed around, while others are standard fare. I'm not a steak eater, so I had difficulty deciding on an entrée. The mac and cheese and the roasted broccoli appealed to me, but I do eat meat. My daughter said we don't have to get entrées... we don't have to do the free entrée deal. I ordered the meatballs from the Starter list, and side of roasted broccoli. Daughter ordered wedge salad and side of macaroni and cheese. Her husband ordered filet mignon, shrimp cocktail, and frites (French fries). The sides were described as serves 2-3. That was no exaggeration. The wedge salad was easily for two; in fact, there were two wedges. Four meatballs in a swamp of gravy, and the meatballs were huge. I did eat 3 of them, while one was shared by Lynette and Ron. We each pretty much sampled some of everything. The filet mignon was excellent, done perfectly; the mac and cheese seemed, to me, to be much too bland; adding pepper didn't improve it much. The roasted broccoli turned out to be delicious, tasted like roasted broccoli, but that was a surprise because first sight of it was shocking. It looked burnt. It was black or blackened. But I noticed no taste that would explain the appearance. The table was also supplied with a basket of dinner rolls and small cups of softened butter. About the meatballs: Should I ever order them again, I hope to remember to say hold the gravy. I wasn't expecting gravy. And I'm not sure it was supposed to have been gravy as it was so thick. It didn't add anything to the meatballs. I believe a little red sauce would have been perfect. Our waiter, Ruben, was a gem. He had a good sense of humor, a ready smile-- a prince of a server who put up with us valiantly. I was the only one who ordered a dessert. I told Ruben "I will have the birthday cheesecake." Well, diabetic, I shouldn't have ordered the cheesecake, but it was my birthday. I had a little last night, a little today, and I'm sure it will be gone by Saturday. Fresh blueberries in blueberry syrup topped it. And a huge surprise, especially because we did not take advantage of the free birthday dinner... well, you will have to look at the photos. Great Bar area. The bartender was attentive and engaging and makes a great old fashioned. The mangers went out of their way to make you feel comfortable and invited before you even sat down. We sat in the banquet area upstairs and next time will try to stay down by the bar. The appetizers were all great. The steak was one of the best in the city, and dessert was sweet but light. January 2024. Reuben was our server. He was very polite, friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and made great conversation. Brendan was his assistant. Bread was soft and warm. The rolls were a pretty decent size. Perfect crisp on the outside with a nice crunch. Oysters were oysters. 32oz bone in ribeye 6/10 Medium rare It came out and was pretty red and raw still in the center. We sent it back for a few more minutes on the grill. It pretty much came out the exact same again. It was still way too undercooked for me but I didn't feel like sending it back yet again so I only ate a few bites around the edges that were more cooked. Not impressed at all. The seasoning on the steak wasn't anything super special to me either, it tasted mostly like grill char, so the whole steak in general was just meat and char flavor. There wasn't a ton of marbling either so the flavor that that fat would typically give it was also lacking. Gorgonzola demi glaze 9/10 Kinda like a cheesy gravy. You could taste the Gorgonzola very well though. Black truffle butter 10/10 Very good butter, super truffley. Potatoes au gratin (special) 10/10 These were so good! Had a ton of cheese, potatoes were cooked perfect, flavorful and coated in that cheese nicely. The chives also were a nice fresh flavor with them. P.S. I did add some salt to those, but that's just my own preference for any potato. The entire dining experience was excellent from the staffs professionalism and slightly jovial attitudes, to the food and table we requested and were placed at. The one and only downside which lost a single star, was that we were told that our *Shea's Ticket* with the discount on the back would only apply if it were a broadway show that they were putting on. Seems slightly misleading based on what the Ticket Stub states on the back. That one and only issue aside, I highly recommend spending even just a night on your own grabbing a drink at their stunning bar, and tasting the fantastic meatball appetizer that they offer. First and foremost the customer service from the time the reservation was made, to them calling to confirm in advance, the complimentary valet parking, and the wait staff, everyone was phenomenal. I was shocked at how large the multi-floor restaurant was, and the decor was very classy and well-done. We ordered cocktails at the table which were tasty. We also ordered the Candied Apple Bacon as a starter and it was delicious. Thick cut, flavorful and the house made pickles and pickled red onions were great. I ordered the 8oz Filet which was prepared perfectly. I ordered the peppercorn sauce on the side and I highly recommend doing so. For sides we ordered the baked potato which was HUGE. I genuinely want to know where they sourced such giant potatoes. The best part of the meal was the macaroni and cheese. We added the lobster meat and it was absolutely to die for. I brought my husband here for his birthday the day after Thanksgiving. They have free valet parking which was very much appreciated by us. We were greeted by a very friendly staff. There was also a coat checker who offered to take our coats for us. It was a very nice surprise. Our waitress was super nice and very helpful and informative about the menu and daily specials. We ordered the Caesar salad which was big enough for two. The kitchen split the salad onto two plates for us. The caesar dressing was so delicious that I wish I could buy a bottle for home. My husband ordered the filet medium rare. His steak came out more rare than medium rare, but He said he didn't mind because it melted in his mouth so he had no issues with it. I ordered the ribeye steak. The crust and flavor of this steak was absolutely incredible and it also melted in my mouth. I ordered a side of truffle butter which was not needed at all, noted for our next visit. We ordered the fries as our side which is more than plenty for two people. Our dinner, waitress, staff, and valet was top notch. I honestly think it's one of the best meals we've had dining out in many of our years together. The restaurant decor has a very elegant touch with just the right amount of lighting. I'm really looking forward to coming back. My only advice to future guests would to bring cash to tip the valet and the coat checker. We tipped generously because of the convenience that was offered. Only downside is there are some better spots than others to sit in the restaurant. Personally I think the space for smaller parties is better than the space for a larger group. Finally made it here for dinner and WOW! I loved it and would absolutely recommend it here! I made reservations online which was very easy. I'm fact, it was on the fly because I asked my boss to go home early for my birthday and they had plenty of room available on a Monday night. The hostess greeted us and wished me a happy birthday and we were brought upstairs to eat. I want to say I loved the ambiance in all areas. The downstairs area had a bar and other seating. Upstairs where we sat was so nice as well, and there was an overflow room for busier nights as well as banquets that was absolutely stunning!! (I peaked in) Our waiter was so kind and helpful and a young lady kept our waters filled and table cleared. The waiter also wished me a happy birthday a couple of times and is appreciated everyone's attention to detail and caring about a special night. The complimentary bread and butter was good. Bread was nice and warm and butter was soft and spreadable. We both ordered the 8oz filet medium ... mine with the Maytag blue butter .. and mashed potatoes to share. The filet was cooked perfectly and the best flavor and practically melted in your mouth. It was a true 8oz too, unlike some places that say "well it shrinks while cooking". Oh no, this came true to size! The sides all feed 2-3 people. So me and my friend ate about 90% of the mashed potatoes. We were stuffed! No room for dessert! It is very elegant and warm with dim lighting. I think it's a great place for a special occasion or when you want to impress someone special or have a romantic evening. This steakhouse is a must try if you come to Buffalo! I don't understand any review less than 4 stars. The rolls and butter were excellent. I had the 8 in filet with a crab cake and and fries. The steaks are all prime and cooked as I had requested. The crab cake was also amazing and the fries are fresh cut and some of the best anywhere. read more
