The service is sooo slow. The workers are always talking with each other or other customers and it slows down the selling process by a lot. I arrived to sell and there was 4 people ahead of me. It took over 40 mins for the lady to go thru one bag of clothes. 3 workers in the back not helping in the front to clear out the backup of people. The clothing section is mid and looks like they ordered half their clothes in bulk order from some cheap china store. Not all clothes are resell. The buyers here could definitely use more training, as my experiences have ranged from good to awful. There needs to be more consistency as to what they take and don't. (And if you're overstocked, just don't buy! Or make it clear exactly what it is you're looking for. Save us all hours of unnecessary waiting time.) My most recent experience was with a buyer named Tina, who didn't take a single piece from the 7 people ahead of me in line, despite the fact that each of them had several awesome, stylish/on-trend items in great condition. I've never seen this level of pickiness, so it had to have been that they were overstocked and thus, not in buying mode. Having had a couple good experiences here, I know what they take/pass on, so this was a strange experience. Also, Tina was COUGHING constantly into the air/clothes in front of her as she was examining. So gross. If you're sick, stay home!! I've done some browsing at this location as a buyer and recently, most of the stuff they've bought to resell are atrocious. Like...yikes. So many tacky, ripped, clearly shrunk-in-the-dryer items! Came in wanting to sell some clothes which were in good condition and were able to be sold to another person with no issues. They only accepted one piece of clothing out of 30 which is ridiculous as all the clothes were in very good condition. Help! My pants have fallen and they can't get up! I am all for jeans that ride very close to the muffin top or show some hip while you strut your stuff down the street. But when your jeans are rebelling against the agreed upon hip positioning and doing everything they can to make you look like a jackass as you walk down the street trying to pull your pants up. Well, that is where I have to draw the line and take drastic measures. And by drastic measures I mean, buy a belt. Luckily for me, this here BE was very close to where I was staying last week and offered up it's hold your pants up arms to me and set me up with a belt that is perfect for my bells. And at a mere $7 out the door, well, who can complain. Not I, which is why i went back the very next day and bought even more stuff from them. So while this store seems a bit on the small side, they definitely carry a good variety of thrifty options and I left happy and would return again. read more

Been coming here for years since it's the closest Buffalo to me. It's pretty frustratingly inconsistent what they will and will not buy; people bring in absolute garbage that gets bought up but anything with a name brand even if it's never been worn seems to not go. That's partially because the staff tends toward rich kids with grunge aesthetic, with a side of snooty. Best advice is to give it a go, never donate anything, and whatever they turn down take to another location where the staff is less bratty. read more

They do have some nice stuff in there that's priced decently reasonable but I've seen tones of shein clothing in there priced at $15-20 and the other day I saw a used wild fable target t shirt that you can buy brand new at target for 3dollars priced at $10. This place is poorly managed but has a great selection of clothes. They would benefit from developing an organization system for people wanting to sell clothes (i.e. maybe consider having people sign in so that you can attend to them in the order that they arrived). They might consider providing a bag check. There's very little room between clothing racks, so it's hard to move around people and their backpacks/purses/bags. Lastly, the staff here is friendly. Before the lockdown I used to enjoy coming to this location (I believe the staff then was so much better). The racks would always be filled with high-quality clothes and some very eye-catching vintage items as well. But coming here post-lockdown I find the curation to be terrible. The current staff basically just take in clothes you can easily find from discount store house brands and sell them for twice the price you can get them new. Not to mention damaged items they sell for way more than they should. Doesn't anyone know how to price accordingly for these low-end brands/damaged goods? Crappy. As a seller, they don't know quality at all and pick the oddest pieces (and price terribly). Leather banana republic jacket they priced at $25, and a crappy suede hat they priced at $13... there's a $200 difference between their retail prices! As a buyer - beware! I bought two sweaters (without trying them on), and one had a hole that you'd only be able to notice if tried on (ripped out of a hardware ring). 5 day return policy and I didn't sus over it until after. I've been shopping at Buffalo Exchange for 35 years and have been happy to shop there- until now. This review applies to my experience shopping at the store on Valencia. The oder I encountered upon walking into the store was strong like musty mildew. It reminded me of Goodwill Stores. I know, from experience, that it's very hard to impossible to rid clothes of that oder no matter how many times you wash them. I shopped, I smelled the clothes. Many smelled musty like mildew. Buffalo never used to sell damaged clothes. Why did they start? I'll be shopping at WasteLand and never Buffalo if they continue selling damaged clothes. read more

This place is BEYOND cool, especially to us visiting small-town folk. I love the stores in this area because you never know exactly what the heck you're going to find here. I saw a bunch of strange clothes, but there are some real finds hidden deep within the racks of clothes in this store. I found several Pink Floyd shirts, one for my dad and 2 for me, that we still wear to this day. They were very lightly used, but we washed them after we bought them anyway, because you never know... But I LOVE the selection here, the accessories and clothing are unique and diverse things you probably won't ever see in your small hometown thrift stores. Do not come to this location go to the one on Haight St I don't know how they train their buyers but nothing was eye catching and over priced. What's worse is if you come here to sell your clothes. They price the items they take right in front of you the amount I got in cash was the same amount they priced for one of my jeans they took. They took around 5 items and I got $13 out of it. Their customer service for when dealing with an upset customer is awful they don't know how to handle customers and their concerns. Save your money and buy on mercari instead. read more

I came here for the first time to sell and buy. I had a pretty good experience! The manager (forgot her name) was really friendly to me and others that came in to sell. She was also reasonable with the items she picked out. Not just the manager but other staff were so nice! Other stores that I've been to don't have such lovely staff. Wow.... ive been coming here over 10 years and have never had the experience i had today. I was racially profiled here. They have never in my 10 years of visiting had someone check the tags on every.single.piece. of clothing i took into the dressing room. He( young blonde pale man, flamboyant) initially lied and said that he was checking if the tags were just in the wrong places not the wrong prices... i stopped and thought for a minute. I asked him why he checked the tags and he walked away at first but came back and gave me a nasty look and said to make sure i didnt switch the tags. I asked if i looked like someone who wpuld switch the tags and he raised his eyebrows as to say " yea kind of" I quickly hurried away and spoke to the manager who told me checking tags is policy for everyone everyday. Even though this has never happened to me in 10 years. I am a young latina, i came in not looking my best today i will admit.. but still had on designer clothing... i would NEVER change tags. I'm not sure if this is just this specific store, but usually Buffalo Exchange has some pretty decent stuff, but I just could not find anything good there. The prices are alright, but they'll sell brand name items for like less than $20 which can suck if you're the one selling them. However, it does seem like they are overstocked at times, with the store itself getting very crowded and messy very easily. Just a note on an accessibility issue. They have 8 small fitting rooms that a wheelchair can't even fit into, and one large fitting room. But they use the large fitting room as a storage closet, so wheelchair users aren't allowed to try on clothes there. The result is that there's no fitting room if you're in a wheelchair. It's not a problem with having no accessible fitting room or having a lack of space. They have actually chosen not to use the wheelchair accessible room for its intended purpose. I don't blame the individual staff, they were polite and just doing what they were told, but I hope whoever made this decision can see how unfriendly this is to wheelchair users. You could have used one or two of the small fitting rooms as a storage room instead. So, for now I advise people not to go here if you use a wheelchair. You won't be able to try on clothes. read more

The staff here is lovely, it's never too crowded, the selection (especially dresses!) are awesome. The clothing cycles enough that you could come back weekly with tons of fresh stock. Not super well curated but you expect that. My issue is with the dressing rooms. I don't, and would never, need targeted-gender dressing rooms, but the curtains in there are offensively lacking in privacy. Twice in the last few months I've seen a man staring at me through the inescapable 1-2" gap between the wall and the curtain, which you need to pass to get to the other rooms or the mirror access. The rooms themselves are so small you can't avoid hitting something or another, and the light weight and forced-inward-with-time fabric provides zero security. I don't use this term even remotely blithely, but I truly don't feel safe changing clothes in this establishment anymore. I can't imagine how someone with a more sensitive history or trigger experience must feel. This isn't a scenario of "tell a staff member if you feel creeped on!", it's an obvious and extremely simple fix of getting heavier/longer curtains, or providing small hooks on the wall to connect the fabric, preventing a gap, or replacing them with an alternative solution. Frankly I'm pretty amazed they haven't been changed in years. I won't shop here until the dressing room circumstances change, the last experience was enough. read more

For those of you familiar with resale clothing establishments, You know they are not always the friendliest people especially when you're attempting to sell garments. I rolled in there tonight with a huge amount of items and was fortunate to have Quinn as the buyer. I honestly can't say enough about her she was amazing, friendly, cheerful, supportive to her team and just the ideal service person. She was able to multitask seamlessly. She maintained her focus on reviewing and pricing items while greeting customers, managing staff, answering questions, phone calls and still manage to carry on a conversation with me. I was ready to let her manager know what a model employee she was and then I found out that she was actually the manager! Props to her and her team for a truly positive experience. Bravo read more

I've been selling/shopping at this location for years now. It's a lot cleaner and tidier compared to the Haight street location. As usual, parking can be difficult but it's San Francisco! What can you expect?! I've sold bags of clothes plenty of times and haven't had any issues so far. I get it, you walk in expecting them to buy a crapload of your stuff, but they buy whatever is trending or whats in season. I've seen customers complain about buying one article of clothing, but who the hell wants to buy a shirt that looks hella dingy and old? The line to sell clothes can get messy, but come on now. It's common sense and not a math equation! Sure, some of the workers can come off snobby but so far I've experienced nothing but great customer service! I heart Buffalo Exchange! It is one of the only thrift stores that reconciles my love of thrifting and my latent prissines. You forget that you are browsing and trying on clothes that were worn by someone else - someone who might have had more questionable hygeine than you. There's no massive allergic reaction to dust, dander, or any of that other stuff that makes my eyes go bezerk at some places (e.g., Goodwill, Thrift Town, Out of the Closet). For some reason, the clothes seem so fresh...do they launder them? While the prices of the items at Buffalo Exchange are on the higher side for thrifting (average price for a top $9, a dress $20), the selection is infinitely more up-to-date and stylish than at the aforementioned allergy-ridden stores. This is also the most well-organized shops I've been to...they sort the different articles of clothing BY SIZE!!! None of that sort-by-color insanity! Even the great selection of shoes is sorted by size. There's also a bunch of accessories like sunglasses, hats, bags/purses, belts, and more. Oh, I can't forget to mention how the dressing rooms actually resemble those of normal boutiques and as opposed to a garage. What really is the cherry on top is that the people who work here are actually nice! I'm so used to the more-hip-than-thou attitude from thrift stores in NYC (though it's always true). Maybe the hipsters are just nicer in general in SF? Anyway, at Buffalo Exchange, I've always found the employees to be super friendly and helpful...even when I ask stupid questions like what music is playing. Hearts are flying all around!
