One of nicest, well kept RV parks we have been to in years and we have been to a very many over the years! Friendly, helpful staff and the sites are clean and very well kept. Some unique features in that they have small 'pens' situationed at some of the sites in case you would rather put your dog in a pen as to tying him up. Nice walking path along the river. But my favorite was that the BBQs at the sites are in pristine condition. We stayed only one night so we didn't get the opportunity to grill, but we would have had no problem grilling without first having to clean the grill! This was a beautiful campground. Clean and well kept. Gravel pad sites, grass and trees. We stopped here on our way through to yellow stone national park. Owners were friendly. Pull through sites were perfect for our 36' motor home and car. The dog park was a nice place to let the pups run yet walking among the small grounds was perfect. A great break from a long day driving. Tent pad sites are available along the river and cabins are located closer to the main lodge. A game room, book options, laundry room and showers are located in the main lodge. Showers were clean and water was warm! There are also nice patio sites available with a few of the pad sites. There is an outdoor patio as well as an outdoor kitchen closer to the cabins. I would highly recommend this KOA! read more

A smaller no-frills KOA. This was stop#6 on a 12 day trip and our last leg before arriving home in Denver. We used this KOA as a one night stop, and for that, it was a decent stop. Some sites are nicer than others, with the patio sites being the best. Unfortunately, they removed their hot tub super site from years ago, and there is no hot tub at the pool. And unfortunately their pool was also down for rest of the year. Our site #20 was at the back of the campground. Again, no-frills. Simple gravel site with weeds. The fire ring and table were at the extreme end of the site and basically unusable. Awful placement. Ok for a quick overnight, but that's about it. We arrived at the KOA campground in Buffalo, WY on August 18th. Nancy "received" us with the most chilly reception we've ever had, anywhere. She led the way with no personality, no smile, no interest in anything concerning us other than taking my money. Then she told me "I managed to accept your reservation with an American Express, but we don't actually take that card anymore". Why she felt like I needed her to do me that "favor" of taking the Amex over the phone, I can only imagine. I couldn't have cared less which card they put the reservation on, and have a wallet full of them. I didn't need any favors. And she certainly doesn't get points for doing that one. The girl who got on the golf cart and led us to our spot, although never introducing herself, never smiling, never indicating we had a shared human experience in any way, watched silently as I pulled my new Mobile Suites 44-foot fifth wheel into the spot, said: "that's perfect". And drove away. Here's a piece of advice-- when you lead someone to their spot, bring along a little whisk broom and whisk off the picnic table. It doesn't really do anything, but won't hurt your arm, is a kind gesture and a nice touch. I wouldn't dare suggest a smile, which would have been way out of the park, pardon the pun. Where we come from, not only will they do that, but they also carry a little water pressure gauge, and screw it on to the spigot, saying out loud "46!" or "54!" or whatever, to let me know I'm not going to blow out my system with overpressure. You get the idea, I'm sure. These people are obnoxious, in the extreme. And it's not a "northern" thing or a "Wyoming" thing. We met and are still friends with tons of great people, not only in Buffalo but in Gillette. My advice is to go on down the road, in ANY direction, and stay somewhere else. read more

Well maintained Journey KOA in Buffalo Wyoming. We stopped for another overnight stay. Nice office and a warm welcome from the owners. I had reserved a deluxe patio site but it was completely in the sun and had a fenced patio area with everything in it. Patio chairs and table, swing, grill etc. It was basically an area for your dogs to roam freely too. But with sun and closed in feel, we asked for another site next to it that was shady and open. The owner called the office to see if it was available and it was... so we took it. Walked around the back of the park and saw the river area. Nice!! Bathrooms were really clean and well maintained. Called the office to see if I could get a refund on the difference between the cost of the two sites. She wasn't too receptive to the idea but I told her I would appreciate whatever she could do. We'll see what the outcome will be. Nice stopover and on our way to Billings Montana. read more

I've been camping in the Bighorns and got cell service up at a mountain pass. I called this KOA to see if I could shower here and they said it would be $10 plus tax. I also asked about laundry facilities I could use. So I drove FORTY MILES into Buffalo to shower and do laundry. When I arrived, thy said they would "prefer" I use the gas station to take a shower. What?!? I'm a firefighter and am not saying that to be haughty- it's just that I'm not used to someone refusing service to me. Obviously, I was offended at their patronizing remark. I simply went to the Sheridan KOA down the road. They were much more welcoming and I showered and did laundry there instead. Needless to say, I will always use the Sheridan KOA over the Buffalo one. Our stay was wonderful, check in was very smooth. We got into our spacious site with no issues. The campground was clean and well maintained despite the expansion construction. The pool was clean. There was also a nice creek that our dogs enjoyed playing in along with the dog park. The front desk staff made sure we had plans while we were in Buffalo and gave us great hiking recommendations. His recommendations definitely made this one of our favorite spots on our three week trip. Unfortunately, there was not much to do in town with so many places being closed so it was nice having a beautiful campsite to spend our time. read more

Warning Management changed in the last year!! They are the least friendly KOA we've experienced! I had a situation involving the laundry room that is too lengthy to go into details. The staff handled this situation very immaturely! One lady in particular talked to me in a condescending way with snarky comments that were shocking! A couple of other customers were shocked as well, as to how it was handled. One lady is a Buffalo resident and stays here yearly when her family comes to visit. She said that new owners took over a year ago, and things have changed for the worse! When walking into the office/store(not much of one) we were never greeted(2X) we had to be the ones to say "Hello"! There are spots right next to the road(road noise). There is a creek at the back of the property that most spots can't even see. Don't be deceived by old pictures from when the previous owners had this property! The mosquitoes were bad! Unexpected nice ~ don't pass this one by Most recent stay was 7/31/16 / 8/01/16 - I'm "late" in posting my review ~ We camp in a "Tear Drop" style RV only 15' long w/o toilet or shower ~ plus we like to eat outdoors using the picnic table and set up our dining canopy for sun and weather protection and thus rely on condition of campgrounds facilities and being nearby our site ~ so our critique is focused in that area Journey version ~ not your typical KOA [much better]. Off the interstate so it was quiet no road noise at all. 1 of the better KOA's we've stayed at ~ we were directly across from restroom/shower/laundry building. Very impressed w/restroom-showers. Very clean and updated w/modern fixtures. Showers had rubber mats when you exit the stall & were in a separate private room w/small bench in changing-dressing area. Only CON was bench very narrow [small] becuz inside area of room too compact plus no hooks and shelves in shower and in communal sink area for your clothes-towels-& stuff all necessities that a camper needs Campground itself very tidy, neat, and maintained. All roads and site pads have gravel, but no potholes and all level. Sites are wider/larger than most KOA's we've stayed at w/good shade at most sites, plus some upgraded sites have cement patios w/BBQ grill and outdoor patio furniture easily accommodates the big rigs. Not a good stop in the winter. I get that the winter months bring challenges but it was clear to me these owners/management were just lazy. I know you can clear pathways and sites better than they did. They mislead you on their site and allow you to book spots they have with no intention of clearing out. There was no dump station and we couldn't unbury ours that was supposed to be available at our site. The dog park was absolutely covered in dog poop. We were supposed to have a gas grill, nope. We got charged full price for a fire pit. Do not arrive after dark because it's impossible to see where you're going. Out of the our trek from the east coast this was absolutely the worst KOA we stopped at. Zero out zero. read more

The website speaks of great trees, and nicely shaded areas. Booked a spot, paying extra for a beautiful "patio" spot, which consisted of a picnic table, on a paved spot. Every KOA offers a picnic table. Big deal that it's on concrete. The two trees that were on the spot were about 4-6 ft in height. We were just there for the night, so we checked out, but expressed my feeling that we had been mislead. I expressed my feeling that it should have been a better experience, however the worst was yet to come. The owner, Anita, was so defensive, that she continued to harass me through email for 4 days after we left. Even after I asked her to stop emailing me. She went as far as to say to me "sorry that you are having such a difficult time, I hope that you find your joy". Really? This is a person that is running a business, and yet is so defensive by a slightly negative review, that she Acts like a 2 year old. Stay somewhere else. It's not worth your time. read more

This is a pretty nice KOA, the pictures on the site aren't very accurate in that the grass is pretty much all dead or gone but still a nice KOA. I was unable to get my Cable TV to work (and I'm a very technical guy) so I went to the office and the lady there did her level best to convince me it MUST be me, it cannot possibly be them (I don't give much credit to someone who calls a remote control a "clicker" and tells me straight up "I really don't know about this stuff at all". The park is decent though, we stayed in the Deluxe Patio spot and it was plenty roomy. FYI, the spots closer to about site 20 are less "KOA-ey" and you get a bit of a nice view, the rest you get KOA campground views. read more

Buffalo is such a beautiful city. The gal who checked me in at the KOA was so nice! The office has a pretty big gift shop. If I'd had more time, I definitely would have browsed it and spent some money. Really nice location. The restrooms were clean. Toilets are separate for men/women, but showers are universal. Pulled into Buffalo at 10pm, office was closed and sign said to find a site and pay in am. Campground was pretty full but we were able fins a site to accommodate our 35 foot trailer. Double and triple checked site to make sure it wasn't reserved, there wasn't anything anywhere marking the site as reserved so we set up camp for the night. 2:30am we awoke to pounding on camper door to a man saying that they had reserved the site and we had to leave. Packed up 3 little kids and dogs, overall piss poor campground. Very tight stalls and no host around, extremely disgusted and will be contacting KOA directly to file complaint read more

Overall a really nice place to stay. Staff was accommodating and friendly. Grounds were well kept. Offer a small convenience shop, a nice swimming pool, and a shower house area. Mature trees offered shade in most spots, and there was plenty of nice grassy areas to walk the dogs. Close to downtown buffalo. The full hook-ups were easy to use and accessible. Only drawback was that the spots were a bit close together and somewhat difficult to maneuver in and out of with a big rig. read more

Stayed here during a late October hunting trip. Had one of their small dry cabins, and it worked out really well, and the price was awesome. The staff was kind and attentive. The campground wasn't even close to full, but that might have been because it is later in the season. No issues with noise or bad neighbors. Bathrooms, showers, and laundry room were clean and everything worked well. Will probably be back in the future. read more

Grassy knolls, aspens and blue spruce planted throughout give it a big leg-up on most of the KOA Journeys we've stayed at that are usually nothing more than a gravel lot next to a busy road or run-down neighborhood . Stayed at this KOA last month for an overnight on our way to Devil's Tower. We were traveling with our friends who were in another RV. We were able to have sites next to each other, on well maintained pull throughs. Beautiful and well maintained RV Park and dog friendly! We stayed at the KOA in Buffalo, Wyoming in June 2015. It was the worst experience I have ever had. My family and I have never been treated so poorly. I understand that people have bad days, but to be treated so disrespectfully was intolerable and there is no excuse. Two other families had the same experience the same weekend. We would have never stayed there but had a pop-up camper and children excited to camp. If we had a regular camper, we would have been out of there in a heartbeat. We, along with many families, will never stay there again and do not recommend this KOA with the current manager to anyone. read more

We had stayed at this KOA in the past. We were super excited to bring our teenage daughter and nephew here to get to experience the campground since we had such a positive experience the first time. This was not the case for this trip. Upon arriving there was a mix up with our cabin, which they did end up correcting but only temporarily. We booked for two nights and wanted the larger cabin that we had stayed in previously but they could only get us in that cabin for one day then we would have to move to a smaller cabin the next day. We asked if we could just get a refund on the cabin for the stay so we could just stay at the hotel next door. They said they couldn't do that, so we just decided to stay here. We stayed the night in our larger cabin and went to check out and then check in to the smaller cabin. One of the employees up front told us we wouldn't be allowed to check into the cabin until 2pm, after we made sure to check out of the other cabin before 11am (checkout time). We had to go back and ask if there were any possible way for us to check in at the other cabin as we were having to move cabins and it was a little inconvenient. On the first night we were here the kids wanted to go swimming and so they did. They were rudely greeted by one of the staff yelling at them telling them to get out of the pool ASAP because there wasn't an adult with them. There was a misunderstanding because one of the signs in the pool area says that only kids 8 and younger needed to be accompanied by adults, and then another sign says anyone under 18 needs to be accompanied by an adult. The kids are 13 and 14 so following the first sign we didn't think that would be an issue. I then went and sat at the pool to accompany them and a group of teenage girls came in shortly after, around the same age as our kids. This time no one came out telling them they needed to get out, so we definitely didn't appreciate the inconsistency. Another issue we had was with the fire pits, they aren't clearly marked to say which fire pit belongs to who. So we went to the empty one directly across from our cabin, no one was there yet when we started the fire so we thought it was just a community pit. After the fire was started and all, there was a camper that arrived. The husband was setting up the camper and he greeted us with a friendly "hello" and "how are you" so we didn't think there was an issue at all. Shortly there after the wife appeared stating that this was their fire pit. We apologized and said we were just finishing our s'mores. We said we were finished and that we would be leaving them our firewood we paid for and leaving the fire burning for them. Shortly after we had one of the employees approach the fire pit stating that she had received a complaint about our use of the fire pit. Not the employees fault, but we just would have appreciated a clear sign that the fire pit belonged to that specific lot. We would have gladly found another fire pit if we would have known it belonged to someone else. The experience we had here just wasn't what we wanted it to be for the kids and we definitely wish we had spent our time elsewhere. I'm not typically one to complain, this is actually my first yelp review but it was just a frustrating trip when we came here to have a pleasant time with our family.
