We dropped into Beer Kitchen on Mother's Day for a brunch after learning that the Westport Cafe had its reservation book slammed for a month and was searching for an alternative. The service manager saw us eyeballing the menu on the board and answered out questions, then invited us in. My family of four was sat in a booth in the middle of the restaurant with good visibility around the entire establishment. Ambiance was good, considering that its not inherently a family place. Old tap pulls adorn the ceiling and the light is just bright enough to not strain your eyes, but not so bright that there is glare off every surface. I ordered a cowboy coffee (espresso with tequila, very interesting) and a waffle smash burger sandwich. The table got fries as an appetizer and some kind of fried donut thing that I could have sworn was a Zeppole. As always, let's start with what was good... The appetizers were very good. The dips on the fries were both amazingly good. So much so that I used them on my side of fries after the kids ate all the ones in the basket. The waffle smash burger had a good flavor considering I had never paired a waffle with beef. Prices were agreeable for Westport, but its Westport so there is a slight premium. Servers were pretty much everywhere, so it was never too long for any request we had to be taken care of. On the flip side of that, there was a server doing side work dead center of the restaurant which was kind of awkward. I am used to seeing side work done in somewhere inconspicuous so it was just a little odd, but not off putting. Now let's look at the things that could be better... The dipping sauces for the Zeppole were not thick enough to actually stick to the delicious treat. The berry sauce really needed to be reduced further because it was too thin by far. Delicious, but thin. My waffle for the smashburger sandwich was too oily by far. I think this may have been an intentional choice considering that the waffle serves as the "bun" for the sandwich and maybe the oil was an attempt to keep the juice from the burger and the sauces from turning the waffle into mush. It worked... but it did take away from the flavor by obscuring the taste of the waffle itself. My egg was cooked to specification, so that's a win, but my partner's egg was overcooked. Consistency! Very important and yet not guaranteed, I think. The biggest problem I have with the brunch at Beer Kitchen though isn't the food, but the menu itself. There is not any way to construct a decently priced "simple breakfast." If you're not that hungry, or adventurous, you may find the menu difficult to contend with. I would consider adding something like "the Oldtimer" and have it be two eggs, a meat, toast, and fruit. Price it at 13.99 and leave it alone. Overall, the Beer Kitchen is a nice little brunch spot. So much so that we intend on making it a semi-frequent stop for us on days when the kids want to venture down towards the Plaza. 4 stars. Has room for improvement but is a solid experience for what you pay.
Beer Kitchen continues to be a great dinner choice in Westport. I had the chicken & waffles with the Nashville hot chicken substitution, and the balance of savory, spicy, and sweet was really good. My wife ordered the classic burger, which was juicy, flavorful, and served on a great bun. We also shared the fries with the trio of dipping sauces, and every sauce was a great. The only miss, at no fault of Beer Kitchen obviously, The Flaming Mango beer. It was genuinely the worst beer either of us has ever had . Maybe it's someone else's thing, but definitely not ours. We visited on a Tuesday which is their free Music Bingo night at 7 p.m., which made for a fun, laid back evening. Not my first trip to Beer Kitchen, and it definitely won't be my last.
We've been to Beer Kitchen several times, and it's always one of our favorite brunch spots in Westport. The chilaquiles were excellent--packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. We also never skip the fries with two dipping sauces, which have become a must-order for us every visit. The atmosphere is welcoming, the service is consistently friendly, and the location makes it a great stop while exploring Westport. Whether you're looking for brunch, drinks on the patio, or a casual meal with friends, Beer Kitchen is definitely worth checking out.
Pros: Ambiance was super nice. Part craft brewery, part modern Southern brunch joint. Very cozy and inviting. Service was super nice. We got brunch, but we didn't even know they served brunch, so that was a huge bonus. The food was out of this world delicious. And their beer selection was great, too. Far more than your typical selection of only IPAs. Cons: Not a single con. Tips: Come for brunch. Get one of their astounding burgers.
We were seated immediately and Brooke was an incredible server. Brooke greeted us immediately, gave us some drink recommendations, some beer samples to try since we are not beer drinkers, and was very attentive. We ordered truffle fries with comeback sauce and I got a fish taco. Both were really good and flavorful. I enjoyed the Comeback sauce as well since I like to dip my fries! I definitely enjoyed myself there and will be returning.
Stopped in around 12:30 on a Wednesday during Restaurant Week since I had the day off and wanted to finally try Beer Kitchen. They did not disappoint. I was not in the mood for beer and it was still fairly early, so I focused on the food and stuck with water for my first course. I started with the chicken thigh fries. They were delicious, just spicy enough, and came with a fantastic dipping sauce. The portion was extremely generous. I would have liked them slightly crispier, but they were still hot, flavorful, and very satisfying. For my main course, I ordered the smashburger and it was excellent from the bun to the patties. Everything worked together perfectly. I added the Parmesan truffle fries and those were also fantastic. I also enjoyed the ketchup flight. The barbecue ketchup did not do much for me, but the classic ketchup and the chipotle ketchup were both great. The restaurant was fairly noisy, but since I was dining alone it did not detract from the experience. Service was fast and friendly, and everyone seemed to be having a good time. It felt like a cool neighborhood spot, and I am glad I am staying nearby while traveling. Overall, a fantastic experience. Now if you will excuse me, I think it is time for a nap. All that food is definitely sitting in my stomach
Stopped in for happy hour. I almost always stop by when I'm in Westport, mainly for a quick beer. Every time I've been here it's usually pretty busy. Not overly packed but not empty either. They do have bar seating and tables. Service has always been lovely. They do have food and most of it looks pretty good. I'll have to return to have a proper meal sometime but on my last visit I did try the pretzel twists. They were good but nothing mind blowing. Again, I mostly come for the beer because they usually have lots of great options on tap. And it's probably got the best beer offerings in Westport. Stop by if you're in the area.
We are within walking distance to Beer Kitchen and it is one of our favorite places in Westport. We frequently stop in for happy hour but this week took advantage of their restaurant week menu. As always the service is as great and the restaurant is always clean. My husband had an app and entree, I ordered an entree and dessert. Everything was fabulous--as always!
First time here and cannot wait to come back. So good! Everyone was friendly, food was fantastic, and I loved the mocktail! Such a cute spot in Westport :) They were out of the chicken thigh fries so I would definitely love to try those on our next visit!
I am in love with this place! Amazing food for a relaxed dining experience. They even have a separate menu just for gluten free people. The mimosa carafe was a good ratio of champaign to orange juice. The Bloody Mary was perfectly spiced and thick. The beer list was endless!! The gluten free mac and cheese was 11/10 good. Highly recommend. The non gluten free people even said it tasted good- that's how you know it's good! The crispy waffle smash burger was a great meal meant perfectly for brunch. They have plenty of seating but make sure to make a reservation. Our server, Paul, was amazing!! He always checked in on us and helped me navigate the gluten free menu. I liked that they have TVs and plenty of beer menus and taps to look at.

We ate here on a Friday night after visiting the Art Mueseum and we wanted some place note worth for our KC trip, we ordered the Burnt end nachos, I had the lobster roll, fries and French onion soup. (To get the soup, there was an upcharge, but I was okay with it) My husband ordered the burger, and our kids covered off the kids' menu. Our waitress was awesome and super helpful for our KC adventure. Overall, we were all very happy!
Came in on a Sunday around 12:30. Plenty of parking around Westport. They were serving brunch, I was looking for lunch but very happy with my decision when I saw the menu. Was able to sit down quickly though it was at a community table. People got sat w us, with a spot in between us. I ended up ordering the Dutch baby. It was delicious, I wish they would have skinned the apples though. The rosemary syrup was amazing. I even dipped my breakfast potatoes in it. It was super fluffy like a pancake. A great place to go for lunch or brunch in Westport.

Came to Kansas City over the recent holidays to visit some friends, and Beer Kitchen came as a local recommended place. Good food, good vibes, good beer selection, I was sold. So we loaded up and showed up one day around Noon. Ambiance was really cool. It's in the middle of some sort of progressive looking shanty-esque suburb. The kind of place that does drag queen bingo. I was right at home. Inside was college sport bar, but with a nice, huge board on the wall of all their beer selection. It Was quite expansive. Service was top notch, too. Nice server took care of us, made sure our glasses were never empty. The food came out at a good clips, and we got an unexpected bonus of free little beignet-like donuts with some delicious dipping sauces. As for food, we started off with a jumbo order of the Truffle Parmesan Hand-Cut Fries for the table. We got to choose two from their extensive list of aioli dipping sauces. Fries were good. Dusted with the perfect amounts of truffle and parmesan. And the sauces were my oh my. I recommend paying the upcharge to just try them all. I mentioned the time earlier, because we had no idea we were stumbling upon their brunch menu. Even more options to choose from! I got the Crispy Waffle Smash Burger (smashed hertzog beef patties, fried egg, smoked bacon, merkt's cheddar, caramelized onion, maple aioli, crispy buttermilk waffle). This thing was really nice. Perfect waffle, not too small, not too big, and no oily or anything obtrusive. A nice bun option. Eggs and bacon sometime get lost against giant burger patties, but with these smash patties, the extra accoutrements really stand out and make this burger really stand out in my mind. I also for the try the Smokestack Burger (smoked burnt ends, smoked gouda, whiskey bbq glaze, pickle relish, chipotle aioli & crispy jalapeño straws). Uhhh, as you can read, this thing was loaded with goodness. Fatty burger, smokey burnt ends, sweet boozy glaze, acidic pickles, and texture from that jalapeno. This was the perfect burger. I insist you order this. Overall, my research did not reveal Beer Kitchen to me, locals recommendation did. Shows that you gotta use your street smarts instead of your book smarts sometimes. Had a craving for a chicken sandwich and came upon this restaurant near me. In the heart of Westport, a bar with a vast selection of beer to offer in addition to food menu. Rustic aesthetic- wood floors, bench seating, table and metal chairs along with a bar seating facing the kitchen and front window Nashville Hot chicken was firrrrah! I came down here last Monday after a fantastic time at the Nelson Atkins Museum to grab a quick bite to eat before we headed over to supernatural body piercings. Both my friend I was with and I were craving a burger and I pulled up ye old, trusty yelp and directed us over to this fantastic restaurant. It was patched lunch, rush, and well before dinner rush so we mostly had the restaurant to ourselves, the staff made sure that we were well cared for, and that everything we needed was ordered to perfection. The bathrooms were also very clean and well organized, and the restaurant itself was tidy and had a great ambience. I definitely wanna go back and try more of their unique burgers. I enjoyed the ones we had, also the ranch dressing that clearly is made in house was phenomenal. read more

The lobster was good but the Mac and cheese didn't have a lot of flavor. It was good but I would not order this here again. They had a lot to offer in draft and I tried a sour that I really enjoyed. Girlfriend and I decided to try a random place in kc and decided on Beer Kitchen. They don't call them damn good burgers for nothing! I had the smokestack my girlfriend had the brickhouse we were both thoroughly impressed with our meal. I think this is my new favorite burger it was so damn good. The zucchini fries were ordered by my gf and she loved them I also enjoyed the one I ate. Service was also excellent, waitress was very friendly and attentive. Came here the other night for music bingo and costume contest, our order got mixed up (it happens) but the manager, August, came over and got it fixed right away and was super nice about it. Came back on Sunday because they had an interesting brunch menu... it did not disappoint! Again, staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was good and that we had a great experience. This was our first time going to Kansas City. We were staying in Westport and we decided to take a walk in the snowstorm in the first place we came to was the beer kitchen. Immediately when we walked in the bartender Steven greeted us and made us feel like long lost friends. We decided to sit at the bar because we loved Stephen's energy. We weren't sure what we wanted to drink and he said what's your preference of alcohol? I told him it was vodka and he made me a delicious Caprice and my husband loves tequila and he made him the afternoon delight. We got the appetizer the zucchini fries, and they were amazing. We wish we had it stumbled across this place earlier in our trip, but will definitely be back! read more

I can't recommend this place enough ! My friend and I accidentally found this spot on accident after visiting the art museum while we were in town and we haven't stopped thinking about it since. We came in for happy hour and ordered drinks, truffle fries, and fried zucchini and were not disappointed. We also ended up ordering the build your own mac n cheese and it was beyond our expectations, with add ins like truffle oil, caramelized onions, and bacon. Our waitress was extremely kind and told us that the cheese sauce and the truffle oil are both made in house which makes sense because the quality was evident. If you're ever in the area this place is not only super cute but also super delicious! read more
This was my first time at Beer Kitchen. My wife came here back in 2018 before we even lived in Kansas City. She had a chicken and waffles and said it was very good. Tonight, I had a work group meeting here. It was very nice. Joe was our server and he was amazing and handled our table of eight people easily. No one wanted for anything. I highly recommend grabbing Joe if you're there. He was kind enough to tell me about the sliders happy hour special 10 minutes before that deal expired. I got two sliders and they were so good. I got two more and the side salad and that was my dinner. I also had a delicious kombucha. I am excited to return here soon. read more

The service is always amazing and I will tell you, Angel is our go to waitress EVERY time! Great service, great drink menu, and the BEST food. Hard to beat for the price. Grab your chairs for this review because it's gonna be a long one! I think this is probably my favorite spot on Westport now! To start off when my boyfriend and I walked in the atmosphere was so nice and the restaurant was beautiful. I really liked how they welcome and except everyone, LGBTQ+ flag visible! I've never been asked this before in my life, but the hostess asked if my boyfriend and I had any gluten allergies or did we have celiac disease. WOW, I never knew they had a restaurant so close that catered to special conditions like this! As a girl who has tummy issues, count me in!!!! The atmosphere is amazing. Our waitress was super kind and helpful with the menu. My favorite drink of all time now is going to be the mocktail I got which was a pineapple mocktail and when I tell you I guzzled down 2 of them! I also went ahead and tried their only veggie burger on the menu, and it did not disappoint! If anyone would recommend this place the most it would be me. 100000/10! read more

While in town, we had time before our flight to enjoy brunch at Beer Kitchen and had a fantastic experience. To secure a table, we made reservations for the first seating at 9am and were the first to arrive, snagging a cozy corner spot. The restaurant's decor is retro with a rustic charm. Our server, despite being in training, was excellent--friendly, attentive, and helpful. We kicked off brunch with a carafe of mimosas, perfectly balanced with just a splash of orange juice, and a Wake & Bake Mary, which my husband declared one of the best Bloody Marys he's had (second only to mine!). For starters, we enjoyed Baby Donuts with cereal milk anglaise and fresh raspberry jam--highly recommended. Our main dishes included the Crabacado Benny (5-stars), the Bacon Cheddar Omelette (a bit too salty), and the Brioche French Toast. Beer Kictchen has evolved over its course of residence in the ever changing Westport landscape. For as long as I can remember, Beer Kitchen has remained a staple for hipsters as well as home-towners alike, making it a unique local destination for good grub. It used to market itself as a gastro-pub, but that's far too pretentious for what Beer Kitchen is, which consists of a casual bar restaurant that has a kick butt beer selection (though a tad overpriced) and even better food. When reviewing Beer Kitchen, I'm taking into account my countless visits. However, I must dwell for a moment on restaurant week. This year, I felt as though they could have done better with the timing and accommodations because I was visiting on a Saturday at 11:30am and was told only the brunch menu was being offered even though the dishes on the lunch menu were regular dishes on the everyday menu. So, I went with the burger I originally wanted, one I had tried many times before but I couldn't order it as the restaurant week special, which was a bummer. This time around, only one person out of four in our party went with the $20 restaurant week brunch special... which is quite sad. Their pick was the mini doughnuts, which we all shared, and they were quite delicious. But, my meal was from the traditional menu and is a tried a true, the Smokestack Burger. All in all, I do highly regard Beer Kitchen as one of the better restaurants that has lasted in Westport however, I will not be going during restaurant week again because I didn't think the menu was that creative or a good value. read more

Fun atmosphere and all the beers you could ask for. But also, you absolutely come for the burgers. So many options, all delicious and you can't go wrong! Also a huge fan of their Mac and cheese. Service was great and they can give you recommendations on which beers to try. Honestly all good vibes and no complaints and hope to make it back here soon read more
