I was here for a few hours to meet up with some KC Yelpers and during that time, I enjoyed a couple of beers, a few bites and a wonderful welcoming staff. I was trying to stay on my keto diet so I enjoyed a delicious bowl of their curry cauliflower. Plenty of it and quite tasty. Followed by two pickled eggs. Not deviled eggs, these were quite firm and tasty, topped with a sriracha drizzle that really brought out the egg flavor. With them, two tasty lighter beers. Not much more than that as I still had to drive tonight, though I consumed this over three hours. There is street parking in the area, both free if you can find it and paid if you can not. A few of my friends and I stopped in on a Tuesday around dinner time, It was a great day so we sat out on the patio which is a nice large area with plenty of seating. My issue was that every is phone based, you scan the QR code and then order drinks and food online. We were all having connection issues and half the menu wasn't downloading, We weren't able to see examples of menu items or half the descriptions of the menu. When I ordered my burger it was also very confusing with a million checks to complete the topping and sauces and all. I've been to Brewery Emperial a couple times now and have had great experiences. Both the food and beer are top notch. A highlight for me is the garlic Parmesan fries. They are so good! These are up there for my favorite fries in the city. The service is great. You are greeted upon entering. You can choose to sit wherever you like. Great place to hang out, just outside of downtown KC - in the crossroads/brewery district. I tried two beers from the menu and enjoyed both. The first was actually a beer and a shot - Todd's Combo. The pint of Biscuit and a shot of TODAMMIT wouldn't be my go to, but it was worth trying. I actually enjoyed the beer. The cinnamon schnappy shot I could've skipped. The beer had toasty notes... if you like pale ales, it is a good tasting beer. I also tried the URSA23, which is a stouty beer. It was great tasting and filling. 12 malts and 1/3 of the batch is aged in Tom's whiskey barrels. It was delicious. We took up seats at the bar. The bartender was nice and greeted us immediately. He took our orders and put some waters in front of us. As soon as we were near empty, he asked if we wanted more or something else. He was knowledgeable in guiding us to the beers on tap. Guests have the ability to order online, but why would you with competent friendly service like this? Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The biergarten is covered, and if you want to sit out front, you can do that too. Even games for the kiddos, if you bring them along. The smash-seared patty was cooked exactly to my medium-plus sweet spot, juicy without a hint of grease, tucked into a soft bun that held up all the way home. The fries deserve their own headline. You can taste that they start with real-deal potatoes--crisp edges, fluffy centers, finished with a punchy mix of roasted garlic and nutty Parmesan that clings to every bite (no sad shake-on powder here). Fresh ingredients are clearly standard practice; everything still tasted farm-stand vibrant after the drive. Service was on point, too. This was my first food experience in Kansas City as I was visiting for a work convention. The bartender, Zach, was awesome -- he was super laid back and polite. He even went out his way to split my bill for work reasons. The wedge salad was incredible and the fried pickles had a unique batter that was light and crispy. I would order both again! I have been here three times. Once was a few years ago with just my fiancé and we sat on a bench outside. The other two times I have been with a very large group and we sat at the long table in the covered patio sections. I will say that between my second and third visit, they have drastically improved the ordering system. I try everything in my power to not write a 1 star review for businesses and this one pains me because I have recommended this business more times than I can count and used to love it. However (sigh), after meeting a few friends here, we were trying to order on the qr code that was provided when a server came to greet us. We ordered a round of beers and was told that she needed to keep a card on file but assured us that nothing was going to be charged on it, we could even pay in cash if we wanted or split it however. I provided my debit card, no problem. The night progressed and we stayed for awhile. At the end, we got our tabs, each paid, and we were on our way. I might mention that my beloved spicy fish tacos were super bland but the beer was good as normal. The next day, I got notice from my bank that my account was flagged for fraud, why? Because the brewery charged my card 16 different times for almost $500. I immediately called the brewery so they could help me figure out what was going on. I was told that there wasn't a manager on staff, but to email. I emailed and Julie (the owner) responded pretty quickly. Instead of apologizing or even trying to figure out how to help me, she blamed it on my bank and told me the total of what I spent (which I already knew). I told her specifically how much was charged each time, breaking it down, but she then stopped responding. To the bank I went...which they were blown away that a business would do that. Once I got to the fraud department, they explained the business did actually charge my card, but it wasn't hard posted yet, so there wasn't anything they could do until the business finished processing their charges. She did mention that she was going to be coming to KC soon with a group of people and the plan was to go there, but now they are going somewhere else. 5 days later, the charges were finally removed. So if you do choose to go here, pay cash or know they will hold a ridiculous amount of money that you didn't even spend for 5 days. I tried to go to them to make this right first, but the lack of response or even a sorry was telling. Very disappointing read more

I reviewed this business in 2020, but realized it needed to be updated. I had a great experience the first time I went, but had a few rough experiences in 2021/22, so we finally made it back. I know there have been several projects the past few years that made space limited that are completed and possibly some change in staffing, to make it much better! We had an incredible experience when we were here. This is one of my absolute favorite patio spaces in KC. Honestly, there were several things happening in KC on the night we went, and I don't know how people didn't come and support this business after those events. However, it let me get some pictures of the space! The staff was incredible, since it wasn't super busy, they were super accommodating. We could order through a QR code while we were outside, or wait for our waiter to check on us. The food was great and quick to come to our table. The burgers are fantastic and are one of the biggest reasons we wanted to return! They are super good and are definitely worth ordering! The spent grain from the brewery goes to the farmers that they get the beef from to make this food so yummy...which I find super interesting! We had a friend in town and this offered us a space to hang out, enjoy drinks, patio weather, and have a super relaxing evening. Again, huge shoutout to all of the staff from 10/07/2023 for making our Saturday night a beautiful representation of Kansas City! Here is my review: Fantastic Service, Fantastic Beer, Great Vibe....Good Food. I like bars where the bartender talks more than I do, where the people at the bar aren't there to talk with their date, but are truly there to be social. I went to this Brewery from a recommendation from a friend who told me that their fish and chips were excellent. What I got was strong opinions on the downtown stadium, a short discussion of the Green Lady lounge and some good fish and chips, but not the best I've had in KC. I ordered the fish and chips and two half pints of different beers and with tax and tip, my bill came out to $29. First, the vibe is excellent, very east-side downtown KC like, with an rough-shewn architectural structure that looked like it might have started out as something else, converted into what it is today. The bartender had about a half-full bar and he was happy to talk to everyone there....very friendly. The beers there are also fantastic, as good as the other breweries. I had the Biscuit, which was pretty good, but it was overshadowed by their Double Chocolate Stout, which was excellent. Their fish and chips were also good, their fish flaky and their chips were proper. The only thing holding it back was that the batter was not as crispy as they should be and a bit more greasy. As I had mentioned in another review, this often happens when the temperature that the fish is fried in is not high enough. It was still good, but I'm from a Commonwealth country where Fish and Chips are an art form, so I have higher expectations than most. But don't let that take away from how great this place is. There is more to a place than how nice the fixtures are, or how great the space is. Like many of the best watering holes, it will always be about the people that work there, and the service they provide...and the food and drink of course. read more

I haven't been to Brewery Emperial since before the pandemic and MY has it gone downhill. When I was in last time we were greeted, seated, and served normally. Nothing special but it was a good time. This time we came in on a weeknight to a nearly dead bar. No greeting, no sit where ever, so we just sat down to a QR code at the table. It took us easily 10x longer to order than if they would have just walked their lazy asses over and said I'll just take your order. No, not just a QR menu, a whole ordering system. So other than drop off and checking in once there was absolutely zero service. The order system is easily the WORST website based ordering system I've ever seen. I couldn't help but think if we're 2 guys in our 30s who work with technology daily having issues, what about our retirees that live downtown? Then the food. Oh my yuck. The wings were more bone than meat and the sauce was gross. We didn't eat more than one wing each. Then the falafel burger was laughable. Dry af chickpea burger is what is should be called. Absolutely no flavor of falafel. My friend's burger was okay, but nothing to rave about. Honestly, I don't know how this place is open but the owner needs to get their act together. We did not tip 20% and I'm an industry worker. That should tell you right there how I felt about the experience. Easily the worst food in the crossroads district and worst service. I was really excited to try this place. It looked really cool and had a great outdoor area. We were greeted at the entry and seated inside. The table we were initially sat at was really small so we moved to the bar area. It was explained to us that you scan the QR code on the table/bar and order that way. Upon sitting at the bar we were not greeted or spoken to by the bartender named Zach. He seemed put out by all the customers and not in a very good mood. We went ahead and put our order in through the QR code and then proceeded to wait. After about 15 minutes of just sitting there looking around Zach finally shouted "I'll be with you in a minute." When he came down to us we explained that we ordered through the QR code as instructed but didn't know if it went through. He told us to just order through him. So we ordered two beers and decided to forgo the food we had originally planned for after seeing the service. When Zach brought the beers one of them was incorrect. We didn't say anything we just drank them. We were never offered water, or anything else. We paid through the app and began to leave when Zach set two more beers in front of us without saying anything. We informed him that we were leaving and the beers he just brought us were our original correct order. He goes "oh well someone will drink them". I also watched a server with blonde hair and glasses being rude to customers. The customer asked this server for an IPA to which they replied "Yea!! Which one?!" I was literally shocked at the tone and expression on this persons face. No recommendations no suggestions just rude. Overall the service here was awful. We won't be going back here. read more
