I normally frequent the Crossroads location but was in the area and decided to check it out. It's a pretty large space. There's bar seating, lots of tables and booths, and even an upstairs area. The restaurant is clean and the service was great. The individuals who were working were really engaging and seemed to have built a great rapport with some of the regulars. I didn't get any food on this visit but I plan to on a future visit. I really just popped in for a happy hour beer. They concisely have a good tap list filled with lots of local and unique craft beer. They knock a couple bucks off the price of craft beer during happy hour which is 3-6 daily. They also offer half priced cheese bread and even a slice and pint deal which is like 10 or 11ish dollars (as of July 2026). PIZZAS have a special place in my heart since childhood and Buffalo State Co Pizza has been my favorite ever since I became a resident of Kansas city in 2017. Situated in downtown Overland Park, this shop really defines the pizza scene there and has some of the tastiest pies you could hope for - super flavorful, loaded with toppings and cheese and baked with just the right crunchy edges - just emmmm. I recently went in on Valentine's Day evening with my husband because I wanted to keep it super casual, and Buffalo State Co Pizza did not disappoint. We ordered an 18-inch pizza with the Le Royale and Don Pepe flavors, half and half. As soon as we entered, we ordered and paid for the pizza at the front desk and then went to the bar to open a tap - and then proceeded to find a table. Le Royale is your regular combo pizza with sausage, pepperoni, bacon, green peppers, mushrooms, black olives, red onion, and cheese .. all of that, but just a little better than most combo pizzas out there haha. Don Pepe has pepperoni, spinach, Roma tomatoes, feta, parmesan cheese, and roasted garlic. The ingredients came together with perfectly melted cheese and tangy tomato sauce, topped with sizzling pepperoni slices. It was chewy, gooey, and very satisfying with the perfect bite. I think it definitely transported me to NY. To top it all up, there was live music, and I got to hear an amazing local artist called Katie Ziegler - her voice was truly magical. Otherwise, the service was good and fast. To conclude - I had a lovely unforgettable evening with great food, music and service. Buffalo State Pizza is hands down one of my favorite pizzas in the KC metro. Back when it was Papa Kenos and I lived down the street I'm pretty sure we ordered from them weekly. Back in 2019 when I was pregnant with our first daughter this was a meal I craved all the time. Something about their sauce, perfectly crispy crust, and homemade ranch just hits every time. Flash forward to 2025 and they have just moved into a new location down the street from their OG OP spot. This new space has way more seating, a bigger bar, more TVs, and overall is probably a good move for them to increase production and feed more folks. All of that being said, there are some kinks to work out for dine-in. I know it's like this at their crossroads location as well but ordering pizza at one spot and then beers at another just feels really cumbersome. I wish that could be streamlined. They also don't have any red wine available which seemed like a huge misstep. My MIL would have likely had two glasses but didn't drink as that's really all she prefers these days. My biggest quip though, and why this wasn't a five star experience for me was the ranch. I know, I know, silly to be hung up on a condiment, but we were dining in and we're ranch with pizza people and we needed some ranch. I went to the cashier to ask for some and they asked me how many TINY and I mean TINY like one tbs container I wanted. They then charged me for them. It was like $3 for four containers. I'm sorry, but I'm still kind of salty about it. I could have purchased a bottle from the store and brought it in for that price. I get that they charge for delivery but to charge for your house made ranch in store for someone dining in is kind of insane to me. It was a huge turn off and made me feel like they were really nickel and diming me when I was already eating in and buying drinks, tipping bar staff etc. I feel like some side ranch if you are eating in should be complimentary. Holy cow! This pizza shop knows what they are doing. With big, cheesy, and perfectly crusted pizzas, they knocked it out of the park. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted to order. They had a lot of delicious options, I ended up ordering the chicken ranger, which included chicken, bacon, tomato's, onions, ranch and jalapeños! Such a great pizza. My friend ordered a gluten crust with ricotta cheese and prosciutto, surprisingly so good and you couldn't even tell the crust was Gluten free! It came out fairly fast too! We came to Oldtown OP. To do some shopping and ended up at Buffalo State Pizza for lunch. There's a giant menu when you walk in and then you order at the counter and seat yoyrself. They bring you the food when it's ready. I opted for the lunch combo, $10 for a slice of pizza, side salad, and fountain drink. I did pay a small upcharge to have my slice be one of their specialty flavors. The salad is pretty typical with mixed greens, cucumber, and tomato. The ranch was delicious and definitely NOT from a bottle. The slice of pizza was huge and they cut it into smaller pieces which I appreciated. The flavor was spectacular and the crust was thin on the bottom and thicker towards the edge. I also purchased a single meatball for my 9 month old and she loved it. Absolutely delicious! The service here is amazing. Usually pretty popular but you order quickly and they bring your food out within 10 minutes. Their slices are huge which is great considering the price of $7.20. You wouldn't even need to get the breadsticks from how full you are but even then, they're bread sticks are just as crispy and good as their pizza. They have indoor and outdoor seating as well as a little arcade area. They have many different options to choose from and even a build your own slice as well. Best New York style pizza I've ever had. Good service, not so great pizza. We walked in and were immediately greeted by staff. The ordering process is ordering at a counter and the staff member who greeted us was gracious enough to talk through the menu with us. We decided on the half naked bread sticks w/ mozzarella and a BYO pizza half cheese and half pepperoni with jalapeño. The pizza came out first and when we tried to pick up a slice the whole slice bent in half and all of the toppings slid off which was definitely a bummer. The pizza was also very greasy which explains the sad landslide of toppings off of our first slice. We had a slice of each half and decided the cheese was definitely better. About 10-15 minutes after our pizza came the breadsticks followed. We weren't super impressed by them, it seems to me that it's just focaccia bread with a slice of mozzarella cheese melted over it. I will say, we took the pizza home for leftovers and reheated in the oven it did hold up better and actually wasn't that bad. I think this is an easy option for dinner with great pricing but I wasn't impressed overall and probably wouldn't make the drive to come back. read more

It's crazy that more people aren't talking about Buffalo State in conversations about great pizza around Kansas City. The sausage alone they use here is fantastic, which is why I'm always sure to get a Stockyard when I visit so it has all their great variety of meat toppings. Pizza here is pricier than your basic national chain pizzas, but that's because you get a MUCH better pizza in terms of taste and quality. Solid stuff! You can't go wrong with pizza but there is definitely a difference in quality at some places. Buffalo state is in a great central location that has so many different styles and toppings. The best part is that they can make huge pizzas. I really enjoy just ordering it to go or sitting down and grabbing a beverage. It's a cool space and the downtown location has a neat patio. I was excited to check this place out, I had heard good things from friends and they did not disappoint. I ordered a slice of the Parma and the frontage dip, for the dip you get to choose if you want it made with their homemade marinara or pesto. We ended up choosing the pesto version after asking the workers what their favorite was. You also get to choose two toppings and went with mushrooms and pepperoni. I think next time I might choose an easier meat to dip with but overall it was fantastic and came with a TON of bread for dipping. The pizza was fantastic as well and the blue cheese surprised me, it really worked with the other toppings. I'll start this off with giving you what you came for: the pizza (and beer!) here is AWESOME!!! On my first on-site visit, we opened the door and were greeted by an absolute BLAAAAAST of roasted garlic in the air...which just happens to be one of my favorite smells in the world! My buffalo-buddy and I had a couple questions for the counter staff - me about how to construct a custom calzone, buddy on some beers - to which said staff was very helpful with guiding us in the right directions! She provided my friend with a couple small samples on brews he was curious about, and ensured I would be well-fed with my 14" custom "The Maverick" calzone! My main concern was cramming as much of the aforementioned garlic into the calzone as possible, which was kindly accommodated within my otherwise-stock Maverick, which had meatball, spicy capicola, salami, banana pepper, and provolone cheese! Although my friend had been to Buffalo State dozens of times before, he had never tried the calzone, so after hearing my order, he decided to do the same! We both DEVOURED our entire calzones...which were most definitely too much food for one person in one sitting! You could (and probably should!) make two meals out of this...or bring a friend to share! Of note was the particularly soft, flavorful, and yummy crust that was easy to cut through with a plastic knife! We both tried a new hazy IPA we'd never encountered before, and both LOVED it! My friend even stopped by the liquor store on the way home to pick some up! The dining room was run-of-the-mill-local-pizza-joint, which is to say fairly uncomfortable wooden booth seating, eclectic in decor, and just a little bit "sticky" everywhere. Normally, that latter point would give a place character, but in our post-COVID world, you feel like having a good hand-sanitizer on deck before partaking in a meal with your hands is a great precaution at a place such as this. TVs abound, and my favorite bit of decor were three AWESOME, brightly-colored paintings on the south wall featuring....what else??...BUFFALOES! I seriously want one of those pictures! It's a shame when a restaurant serves good food only to have the meal tarnished by poor service. We ordered Greek salads, two pizzas and beverages on 2 tickets. The Greek Salad was fine. Nothing special, but the ingredients were fresh. The KCQ Style gluten free pizza was excellent. Tasty crust. Marinara sauce, chicken, red onion, provolone cheese and cilantro were spot on. The breakdown? Our salads weren't brought out to us until we asked for them. The second pizza was supposed to be sausage, jalapeño and half mushroom. For some reason three different servers had trouble with that pie. To the point one server actually argued with us about our order. He did come back to apologize. Sadly, that put a damper on things. When they finally got the order right, it was worth the wait. Lots of cheese. Good coverage of the ingredients and a nice crisp crust. FPO and I were meeting up with one of my cousins nearby and remembered this area of Overland Park from our last vacay. Then, there was a Papa Keno's anchoring the row of shops. Now it's Buffalo State Pizza. I'll say as far as the pizza was concerned, it was okay. We got a large The Greek pizza, 18", $25.00. It had kalamata olives, artichoke, red onions, green olives and tomatoes. There were a lot of olives, a lot less artichoke. The taste was a bit salty with all the olives but on the whole ... okay. What I really didn't care for was the restaurant itself. We walked in and there were, maybe two other groups there. We were going to take our first attempt at "dining in" since covid started. Until, we sat at one of the booths and I saw rubbish, old forks and napkins under the table and Parmesan cheese and assorted crumbs on the table. We changed our order "to go" and waited for our pie. While waiting we watched the staff. My attention was divided between the one with his mask under his nose by the ingredients table and the by the cut table who alternated playing with his phone and his hair.
