Mentioned the nut allergy in our group and the server had said that they can't guarantee anything in the kitchen is safe to eat although some menu items didn't have nuts on them. The menu also says this, and maybe it's unfair to give this spot a four but in my experience restaurants shouldn't be mixing items in their dishes and there are pretty good safe serve/allergy friendly practices out there to follow and I've never had any issues. This is the first time I got a response at an American grill that they can't serve anything. Maybe it's just new to me and they're being extra cautious which is not wrong, and this place came highly recommended so I'm sure it's earned more stars, but would love to hear opinions on allergies and places that don't have "safe" serving spaces for nut allergies. The staff is SO incredibly welcoming and friendly, and always points us towards great dishes (shoutout to Kip, whenever he's my server I always just order whatever he recommends!). So far some of my favorites have been the espresso-crusted venison (winter 2025-26) and the ramp risotto (spring 2026). It's rare to find a place with so much passion for local ingredients and showcasing the season. This is the obvious spot for a celebration or to impress your out-of-town guests. The place is also gorgeous. It's cozy without being dark. The staff always welcomes you and checks in frequently. I also want to give a shoutout to the cocktails. Everything here is very well crafted and there's great variety. I also love the wines. The list is extensive, but you can't go wrong choosing a bottle from the seasonal highlights on the menu. Even if you don't have time for dinner, it's worth stopping at the bar just for a drink!

The chili w corn bread was v tasty n just enough for one person. . The best salad w red n golden beets had nuts goat cheese, greens n a nice dressing n generous portions for 2 to share. The Brussels sprouts was crispy , had bits of bacon n tasted good. On the way out saw these giant chocolate chip cookies by the cashiers desk n it looked good v soft . One of our favorite stops in State College to meet up with family. Service is quick, the staff and waitress were helpful on suggestions and keep it real with you regarding what they like/don't like. The setting with the fireplace and views of the golf course and lake are beautiful. Love this spot. If you are heading to State College, give it a go!

The service was spot on, the food was cooked perfectly, the burgers were very tasty, the criss-cut sweet potato fries with hot honey and vinegar salt were fantastic, and the shakes were delicious. That first visit was memorable enough that we were excited to come back. This time, we waited about 50 minutes at around 5:30PM on a Thursday before graduation weekend. Honestly, that part was understandable, and we were prepared for a wait. We had a nice booth for five and ordered table fries, a few shakes, and five burgers. The fries were still excellent, and the shakes were great. Unfortunately, the burgers and service did not live up to the previous visit. My burger tasted more like stewed meat than seared beef, almost as if it had been sitting for a while. It was overcooked and under-seasoned. Our server was pleasant enough, but several sides, condiments, and modifiers were forgotten. Waters were never refilled, the table was not cleared, and a salad that had been misordered was not removed from the bill. I understand it was a busy night, but at around $40 per person for food at a burger place, I expected more consistency. I'll give The Field another try the next time I'm in town because our first experience was so good, but this visit was a letdown.
