We went on Friday to get the pay your age bear for a birthday child. We got the very last one in the bin, and the gentleman that helped us was awesome. My grandbaby had so much fun building the bear, doing the heart ceremony, and then putting the shirt on the bear! One thing that was a huge disappointment to us was, we couldn't put the name on the birth certificate with the computer, and it used to be that if you scanned the barcode, the info for the bear came up on the screen, but now, all you can do is print a birth certificate, and then write on it. Nothing fun about that. You can't scan the barcode, and they took the keyboards away. The computers don't even talk anymore. That was half the fun, but the company is further cheapening the experience. We like this particular location because it hasn't been updated to be overly bright and overheated, it's nostalgic, but not being able to do the birth certificate took away from the experience. That was a very poor decision that the company made. It's too bad that that poor decision is going to affect this store in a very negative way, for something they have no control over. The employees in the store were awesome though. Any negativity comes from a company-wide decision, not something that the store did. read more

horrible service placed an order for same day delivery got an update the next day that it was ready for delivery in the morning. a few hours later the order said complete when I hadnt recieved anything. called the store and they canceled my order but said they didn't know why just that it was in the cancel section. called head and was told it was due to the uber driver canceling instead of finding a new driver they cancelled the whole order without contacting me and still marked the order status as completed which is fraud. the staff was rude and no help at all. read more

We came in to start a birthday tradition for our son. Each year we plan to get a birthday bear and record "happy birthday" We didn't get the full spiel of the wish on the heart and everything they typically do. I can only assume it's because my son is one but I would have enjoyed doing it with him so that was a bummer. There was one employee that did a wonderful job helping us with the recording. She let us step in the back to avoid the loud background noises. Still happy to get his birthday bear and recording. We will definitely continue in the years to come but probably not at this location. read more

I love build a bear and I received a birthday coupon so I thought I don't have a birthday bear and I wanted one. So the employee was wearing a mask with long black hair and long nails asked if I was ready to fill my bear and I wasn't sure but they smirked at me so I said ok... they didn't give good instructions or expectations and also I couldn't hear with the mask on so I was confused about what was going on since again attitude was given to me. I was trying to enjoy my birthday experience however when I stated I didn't put the heart inside the bear they got really frustrated and stabbed the bear with scissors and ripped it open with their hands and grabbed the heart from me and shoved it in the now murdered opening of the bear... they started to clap their hands at me at one point and I was so confused at what just happened cause they got up with my murdered bear and gave it to a coworker and started to clap their hands again... if this person doesn't have patience then I don't believe they should be working around kids or adults or murdering stuffed animals that people will love and adore.. or like me cherish as happy memories .. the second coworker was very kind and didn't understand what happened either?? I want my money back or I want to hear back from corporate office about this situation read more

The full "build a best friend" experience! Buy one get another for $10!! Yeah then you buy a scent, buy clothes and buy a hat... etc etc... cha ching!! However to be there when you child makes their first friend... rubs the heart to get it warm... jumps up and down to make it beat... does their wish... well it is just so very heart warming and one of those memories I will cherish forever! This place has changed a lot since we first came for our oldest.. there are Dino's now, Pokémon, trolls, and so much more! The clothes are better and such a wider assortment. Really the selection is so much better in everything here! After you gut it all built you still get to fill out the birth certificate and all. It is a wonderful experience especially for the first time, but also good for our oldest that is on his 4th time. It felt like A Christmas Cheer Moment! The employees were great... it takes a special person to work here I'm telling you... they were fast and attentive and really good with our kids. A great time overall! read more

I took my daughter here for the first time over the weekend and she had a blast! The employees were all exceptionally friendly and cheerful and this location has a good selection of clothing/accessories. I docked 1 star because they don't have a huge variety of stuffed animals to choose from, and checking out took close to 20 minutes which can feel like an eternity with a toddler. read more

What a fun experience! Carlos & Holly made our time at Build A Bear a delight! Holly welcomed us to the store and quickly found out that we were " first timers" she explained how it all works in detail and with the most up beat personality and smile . She made us feel so welcome ! Carlos helped us find our sounds ! Helped us record a special greeting & find the perfect fairy sound for our unicorn. Clothing galore to dress your animal! Fairy wand to make your wishes come true and a birth certificate to help you remember this special day . Even the packaging is optional ! We very could put out animal in a box - oh no we had to get the cute rainbow bag to care the new stuffy home in ! I watched Carlos and Holly treat everyone as warm as they did us! Anyone with kids knows all about Build-A-Bear. You dread it, you love it and you hope to heck that the store isn't too busy when you get there. You go in telling your kid "one bear and one t-shirt" and come out with a bear, 2 outfits, a bear stroller and a set of pots and pans. Yeah, it really is that random and yes, it really is that addictive. A few times per year, we head to Lakeline Mall and the kids (who are now 7 and 9) get to make a new friend or buy some clothes for their existing friends or... or... For those that don't know how it works, you walk in, you choose your animal (which is just a shell, not stuffed yet). You can choose a sound (barking for dogs or songs or whatever) if you'd like. Then you walk over to the stuffing station where your child gets to do a little routine with a small heart and stuffs their animal (with the heart inside - it's really cute). Then off to the bath (it's just an air bath and brushing). Then it's clothes, shoes, accessories, you name it. It's a really cute experience and the kids all love it. When someone has a birthday party there, the kids are all excited because they get yet another stuffed friend. I won't go into how great the place is, but they are and they cater to kids, just a great experience. But what prompted this review today was because of one small gesture. My daughter came crying hysterically to me earlier today because her reindeer wasn't singing Jingle Bell Rock anymore. The sound thing was broken. (oh no!) I wasn't feeling very sure that they would have that anymore (um, it's February), but I called and yes. Yes, they did. And the nice lady that answered the phone would hold it behind the counter for me and even better, they only charge you the cost of the sound, they don't charge you for taking it out, putting the new one in and restitching. My husband ran over there and came back with a working reindeer. And... they told him there was no charge at all. Now, that, my friends... well... THAT is what you call customer service. Yes, the sound would have only cost us $1, but that's not the point. I would have gladly paid $10 for it. The point is that they went that extra mile. Build-A-Bear Workshop - you rock! read more

Went in on Sunday to build the new How To Train Your Dragon plushies. Kaylee was super nice and cheerful and we discussed the trilogy, our favorite scenes and how frustrating some plot points were. She made us adults making plushies feel welcomed. She was also great with the kids that came after us. Very engaging and full of smiles. Vincent checked us out and was super nice, told us about an upcoming shipment that peaked my interest and we also discuss the movies. Both staff members were engaging and so nice. We got there right when the mall opened. Everything was clean and easy to find. I appreciate the employees being nice to us older nerds. :) read more

I feel most assuredly that every single person (parent, friend, relative, or anyone in general) that has been dragged into this place with a child has left with both an emptier wallet and some retail regret--for even walking across those colorful tiles into Stuffing Land. Ha, maybe you caved and spent $16.50 on the UT football outfit for your child's stuffed pal (that was me), or you dealt with dragging out the kicking-screaming child after you refused to pay the outrageous prices per extra's. Either way, it's a love-hate relationship you'll have with Build-A-Bear. Now, speaking from a child's perspective (my two son's for instance) they love this place, they carry all of their current fav's: Captain America, Spiderman, Batman, NCAA Football, NFL, NBA, you name it...they sell it, and they don't mind throwing Mama the old puppy dog eyes to seal the deal on the non-necessity bear-wear. It's a great place to visit if you're expecting to dish out the cash or you happen to snag a special on the merchandise or bears. Most stuffed pals start at $10 and upwards of $25.00, with sound clips starting at $3.00 and clothing ranging from $5.00 to $25.00; the experience will please any child. We've been countless times and recently attended a birthday party there with twelve other children. As a party guest my two boy's got to pick a stuffed animal under $21.00, sat through several games (not necessarily age specific) and were assisted by two personal hosts, for which tried their hardest to garner the attention of twelve under age 10, children; you can guess how that went. We happened to also be there on a weekend, which the crowd grew quickly and it was somewhat distracting when other non-party guests walked through our party and the noise level exceeded our host's volume. It was a bit chaotic, I'm not going to exaggerate, but it might help if they had an actual party room for this, because once mixed with the general public--who happen to also want a stuffed animal it's easily an overcrowded shop. Not to mention if you want to enjoy cake and drinks you'll have to relocate to the food court, which seldom has space to fit a party of twelve children not to mention parents. It would help if they allowed party guests to check-out with additional purchases on a separate line to make sure the party is able to stay together... It was my 5 year old's first time walking into Build-A-Bear to make herself a new friend and let me just say, I can't thank CARLOS enough for making it a wonderful experience. I have never met an employee who was so sweet and enthusiastic while on the clock. He was so sweet to my little girl, as they built her bunny together she kept laughing with joy and the gleam in her eyes made it seem like she was really in a magical world. Her excitement made us super happy! Carlos seems to be very aware of the impact he has on these little kids and he is so responsible about it. Seriously, give this guy a raise. I did the online survey hoping I could give him a review but since there was no free write I turned to this! He even made an effort to show us the cheaper clothes (without us asking) as we all know how pricey this place can be. We took a long time to decide what clothes the bunny would wear and had Carlos take and bring back items but he was SO patient and kept coming back to ask us if we needed anything else. Carlos you rock!! The kindness continued as we were cashed out by Celia who also put a smile on my little girl's face! I came in by myself in search of my 2 year old another cat stuffed animal, as my ex-husband and I share custody of him and sometimes the cat gets lost between houses and it's a crisis for a night. They did not have my sons exact cat, but Trinity was so friendly, and explained she could order it in store for me, and we could still get the promo, so I thought I could get him another as well for Grandmas house. I didn't end up ordering, but I will be back with him tomorrow, I wanted to make sure he was fine with the same or if he liked another color better, he could pick it out. Trinity was so nice, didn't act like I was a burden, and I felt important when she even offered ordering it for me. I really appreciate her time and consideration and no pressure to buy at the moment. Also, my little brother, who has autism, always comes here to treat my son, and they have ALWAYS treated my brother like royalty here. He's 18 but has sensory issues and sometimes gets frustrated with long ceremonies and such, and the employees are always respectful of him here, especially as he is a little slower and gets upset easily, I appreciate that his business is valued. I came in this morning to make a Bear for a friend who recently lost someone very close to her. I wanted to make a voice recording and it took a few minutes to get the voice recording perfect. Carlos was phenomenal from the moment I walked in until my trip was done. He has an amazing personality and is just fun to be around. He brought out toys to occupy my toddler while he helped me. This afternoon I came back with my five yr old daughter and he was just as wonderful as this morning. He included her in everything they did. She had an amazing experience! Holy high-pressure sales!! Was I buying a stuffed animal or a new car? Same thing in this place! Like most kids, my daughter is a Build-A-Bear fanatic. She gets one every year for her birthday and we stop in for accessories occasionally. We live in the Dallas area so that's where we go. Always a great experience. So we were visiting Austin about a week before her birthday last month. We stopped at the Lakeline Mall in Cedar Park and made our way to the store. She picked out the bear and went with the associate to get it stuffed. The associate then proceeded to use her high pressure sales tactics on my 6 year old! She was asking HER if she wanted to add on a song to the bear, and then asked HER if she wanted to add a scent onto the bear, then asked HER if she wanted to add a beating heart into the bear. A total of over $20 in add ons to the already expensive bear and not to mention we still needed clothes. Obviously she was going to say yes, she's 6! I had to step in and go off on her to inform her of what should be already known..."CHECK WITH THE PARENTS FIRST, NOT THE KID!" She gave me a weird look and never said a word after that. When she went to pick out the clothes, another high-pressure saleswoman appeared out of nowhere and tried to convince us to by another stuffed animal "friend" because that bear "never goes anywhere without her friend" OMG. I could not wait to leave. It's hilarious because my daughter didn't even want that "friend", she had no idea what it was and she watches the show the bear was from religiously. We got what my daughter wanted and of course was hit up once more by the cashier named Crystal who tried to get us to buy some more random accessories. Man the looks on the peoples face when you tell them no. It's like they won't be able to put food on their dinner table for a week because you didn't buy a bear hair brush. This kind of spoiled my image of Build-A-Bear, it was such an annoying experience and I'm going to try very hard to convince my daughter that there are better toy stores out there. read more

We have been going to this location twice a year since 2002. Over the years we have watched as this location has declined in appearance, service and quality of staff. We recently visited again on 12/27/2017. My daughter was in search of her new BAB but was disappointed to find that most of the selection had to do with cartoons or movie characters. BAB seems to have forgotten that not every child centers their life around the television or movie theater. After she chose her bear we entered what we thought was the end of the line based on where it has been for the last 15 years. After standing there for a few minutes the employee informed us in a very loud,rude, and condescending manner that we were standing at the wrong end of the line and we needed to move to the end of the line. For 15 years now we have followed the same process that starts with choosing the friend,choosing a sound, the stuffing and heart process, then the bath, choosing and outfit, the registration process and then birth certificate and payment. The line has always run in a way that made sense to this process. For whatever reason they moved the line that now places waiting customers directly in front of the bathing area making it inconvenient for children to enjoy this part of the process. There also isn't anything indicating that the process has been changed leaving repeat customers to assume the same process is to be followed. We weren't the only customers that were so rudely introduced to the new process. So many so that there was much discussion about it from quite a few customers as they did the walk of shame to the real end of the line. The line was long primarily because this location has removed one of the two stuffing stations and are now down to one, in turn creating a long wait. I understand for some reason it might have been necessary to change the process and that is fine, but at least do something to indicate the change especially when you aren't going to hire staff with the ability to inform customers in a considerate manner. When we finally reached the filling my daughter informed her that she wanted her bear on the soft side. This was ignored and the bear was stuffed to a hard state. We then had to break into the line so that she could do the bathing process. When it came time to enter the bear's information there was only two out of eight computers up and running. The entire atmosphere of the store was poor. There wasn't any music playing, it was hot, disorganized and short on staff. The staff they did have were rude and did nothing to brighten the experience of the customers. It seems that BAB once had a great company but has made some unfavorable changes that I believe will eventually catch up to them. They have lost their charm and if they don't see the writing on the walls now and make the necessary changes they will eventually pay for it. read more
