I had David install a heat pump, replace most of our existing duct work and divide our house into two zones. I had to keep after him again and again to do the work he had laid out in the contract. When I would point out deficiencies in his work, he would argue endlessly. As an example, part of the work to separate our house into two zones, he had to install an separate return. When the return he installed was two 6-inch ducts, I complained since the job needed ducting many times larger to get good airflow. His arguments got nasty and he told me that I would need to pay for the change. My debating skills had been honed by my experiences with my teenage son, so I was able to hold my ground. In the end I prevailed and he did the work. After the ducting work was completed he conducted a leakage test. His equipment indicated a significant amount of air loss, but he claimed it was as good as he could do. I went back and found a large leak in the ducting he had installed and a register he forgot to seal. Again, I had him come back and do the work. I think I have a good system now, but I have absolutely no trust in him. read more

We used building efficiency to add some insulation to our place. Let me start off by saying that the team that did the work did a good job. They are hard working and made a messy job as clean as it could be. Having said that, I was a little frustrated that the work is only completed from 8-3pm. It seems like we could have shaved off day by working from 9-5pm instead. Not really sure why they do things that way. Time is a valuable thing so not doing advantage of the entire day seems hard when you take time away from other things to get the work done. As well, we were told after the job started that the job would require another two mornings that I am pretty sure we were never informed about before (for cleaning and a test out date). I would have been fine with this if it was shared up front. However, finding out half way through is not that great. I really value my time so these two things alone were enough for me to dock some stars. Plus, through a whole serious of issues it took a long time to schedule the work. Having said that the place is a little warmer which is nice. And, we are glad the work is finally done. I would really clarify the terms of the work time frames before the work begins. Scott and David at Building Efficiency are fantastic! First, I have to say that they were prompt and very professional. We live in Pacifica where the climate is very damp, and we were having some mold issues on our walls behind furniture. We had Building Efficiency out to evaluate our problems and test the moisture levels in our air and in the structure itself. Their answer was simple, eliminate the moisture and you'll eliminate the mold! Sounds easy! However, their evaluation was much more in depth. They gave us a comprehensive list of modifications we needed to do to solve the problem. Building Efficiency offers full construction services. But since we wanted to do most of the work ourselves, they were very helpful in giving us detailed information on how to do that. It is clear that they are extremely experienced in all aspects of construction by the level of detail they went into with their explanations. I didn't have a question that they were not able to answer. Since, I have young children in the house, I was very appreciative of their "green" approach. They recommended materials that were chemical free to avoid off-gassing. I would highly recommend them to a friend! read more

This review is long overdue. I hired building efficiency to replace my old furnace and ducts more than a year ago (last summer). I contacted several companies, and I am very glad I decided to go with this company. The team of David, Ben, Beto and Becka is an excellent team, working very well together on the different aspects of the project. David was great, going over the scope of the project, explaining the options and working the quotes. He was flexible and attentive to my requests. Ben came to do the energy efficiency assessment, and he was great too. He knew what he was doing, he was efficient, and then he gave me the great news, that I am eligible for a $4000 rebate. Beto was the main person who actually installed the furnace and the ducts, and did an excellent job. It also helped that he is relaxed and pleasant. Becka, in the office, coordinated the whole project, and helped a lot with the rebate process (my rebate wasn't handled properly by build-it-green, the company that processes the rebates for PG&E, and Becka was very diligent in following up with them until my rebate as approved). Besides the problem with the rebate (which was not Building Efficiency's fault), everything went smoothly. I was very impressed with the level of customer service, and I highly recommend them. read more

My father lives in the San Francisco who's English is not fluent and asked me to find a insulation contractor. I called around several places with nobody answering calls so I left messages with several companies. When I called Building Efficiency Contractors, I had the pleasure of speaking with Becca who was extremely professional and answered all my fathers questions and concerns. They came out the very next day and provided a fair estimate at the time promised. We scheduled to have the work done one week out. The day prior to the appointment, Becca called me to confirm the appointment. Again, very professional and punctual. David performed all the work efficiently and cleaned up beyond my fathers satisfaction. I highly recommend this company for insulation work. My father said he has noticed a big improvement in comfort, temperature wise on hot days. I wish all my dealing with contractors was this smooth. read more
