Do not go here with coworkers because the bahn mi is an inherently sexy meal. I had to moan a few times while eating it and while the flavor was awesome, the only drawback is the logistics of eating it. I wouldn't recommend this on a first date because it's difficult to take a bite, it's so big... unless of course, you'd like to showcase your skills, in which case, do you boo boo. It's white people spicy with the jalapeños, but not overpowering. Also not very compatible if you recently had a lip flip or filler, you really gotta work that sandwich in. read more

I've eaten at a few different Bul Box locations, each time I order the poke bowl with salmon. And every time the salmon has been a little bit on the not so fresh side. It was never bad But I could just tell it wasn't extremely fresh. When eating raw seafood freshness is key! The last time I was there I even asked the girl at the cash register before ordering if the salmon was fresh and she insisted it was, but it did not taste as fresh as it should have been. Came here after hearing so many good things about this place. Unfortunately, it just did not live up to the hype. When I walked up, I was warmly greeted by the staff person. They made their recommendations and I elected to get the Bulgogi fries after hearing so much about them. As I was perusing the menu, I couldn't help but notice that they were sold out of a lot of their items and had no boba fruit teas just slushy teas which weren't enticing enough to order. While waiting I went and grabbed a drink from the food hall's bar (see my review for Transfer Food Hall for the deets). About 10-15 minutes later, my order was complete. I took it out to the patio to dine and snapped a picture. While the presentation was nice, the flavor left much to be desired. The fries themselves were of the frozen variety and nothing special to write home about in the least. They were smothered in what to my disappointment was nacho cheese and canned jalapeños then topped with beef bulgogi, Korean BBQ sauce, Parmesan, scallions and an egg. The composition of the dish was confusing to say the least as were the flavors The meat was tender but was barely warm and had little characteristic Korean flavor. The egg was under-seasoned and had no real purpose in the dish. I would not recommend BulBox. They appear to have declined in quality and wasn't worth the $10. The service was great but is irrelevant if the food is subpar. I hope they'll be able to rebound. They'll need to go stay in business. read more

That menu still looks great, but my husband prefers the boxes you get at this Transfer Co Location. He went with the beef bulgogi box and I went with the ginger chicken. Both were spot on and pretty impressive. How do they get a salad to taste that damn good? Like it was almost my favorite part of my box and I never feel that way about salad. The dressing was spot on! The ginger chicken was flavorful and I loved all the sides that came with my box. The smoky potato salad is a nice touch. My husband devoured his beef bulgogi box and is already looking forward to ordering again. Those bulgogi fries will have to be something we order next time. The signature boxes come with brown or white rice, grilled vegetables, veggie spring roll, green beans with a sesame sauce, cucumber tomato salad, a soy-glazed soft boiled egg, and Japanese style bacon potato salad (I'd go ninja to steal this recipe. It's that good!). Did I mention getting a lot of food? Try to go by 11:45 or you'll be in a line waiting for a bit. We got the spicy tan tan ramen. I loved this dish. I'd never had a ramen dish that wasn't a soup. The ground pork was very flavorful and an egg is always a good idea. I found the lettuce to be a little weird. I think a bok choy would have worked better. It had a little spice to it, but I didn't find it very spicy. We also got a side of the kimchi pancakes which we loved. They reminded us of scallion pancakes but with kimchi. If you're coming to the food hall, I think this place is a must try. read more

Torn between the chicken and pork, despite being told that chicken was more popular, I decided to go with the unique sounding ground pork with veggies, romaine lettuce and a poached egg. Grabbed a canned iced green tea, paid, and gave my phone number to be texted when it was ready. Bro ordered the same noodle dish along with a new item...the seafood scallion pancakes. We found a table for four. Husband got his meal from one of the other places. Sis got something else also. Oddly enough, Bro got a text before I did. I thought maybe they had forgotten mine, so I went up with him. Sure enough, his was ready, but mine was not yet. Mine took another few minutes. It's served in a box. It had really good flavor. There were a few pieces of veggies...red pepper, zucchini, green beans. But mostly it was a lot of lettuce, which was a bit strange with it. I don't know that the poached egg added much. What I didn't care for was the obscene amount of oil. Mine was swimming in it and there was a good amount in the bottom of the box. Bro's wasn't like that though, so I'm going to assume that mine was not the norm. Bro & Sis liked their scallion pancakes but were confused by the dipping sauce. It looked like sour cream with chives, but they said it didn't taste like sour cream. They couldn't tell what it was. I would definitely order from here again despite my oily meal. As I visited this location as a first time visitor, the ambience was bright and festive. However, the cashier seemed timid and unfamiliar with the menu. Also, I didn't like hyperflexing my next to look up at the menu with pictures, due to the tilted angle. On the upside, there was a printed menu without pictures taped to the counter to assist customers with ordering. Overall, I customized a Thai chicken bowl topped with yum yum sauce. I am from out of town, so admittedly, I don't know much about Bul Box, its owners, or its start. But I am sad to say that the food here doesn't taste authentic at all. Their signature box options seemed like the best deal in the entire Transfer Co Food Hall: meat, rice and all the side fixin's for a full complete meal at a $12 price point. Hard to beat. I ordered the bulgogi because... easy enough... you should always order it when it's an option. It took quite a bit of time for it to be prepared (about 15 minutes), but who cares when you're promised a flaming hot meal? I excitedly opened the box and was surprised by all the gorgeous colors and flavors staring back at me. Unfortunately, that's as good as it got. The meat was dry and not very tender, as you usually imagine bulgogi to be. The rice didn't taste like authentic jasmine rice, it very easily fell apart and wasn't quite sticky enough. The egg didn't even look attractive enough to eat. The best part to me was the salad with the seasame (?) dressing. I got through half of the box because I dumped an exorbant amount of soy sauce and sriracha on it. I ended up tossing the box and not finishing because I simply did not enjoy it. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't good (to me). If you've ever had authentic Korean food, I would not recommend this place. read more

Raleigh's 2nd food hall. Smaller in size that its' cross town competitor but the same trendy, hipster vibe. As the name infers, it's an old warehouse building, refitted in modern industrial chic.  Plenty of seating at bench tables inside plus an outdoor patio.  On-street parking was easy to find. Not too crowded on this Sunday afternoon. We tried a couple of selections from Bul Box. The bulgogi box (ordered with salad instead of rice) was a delicious combo. A big heap of savory & sweet beef cooked bulgogi-style is served atop a bed of greens plus grilled vegetables, green beans with sesame sauce, cucumber-tomato salad and dressed with sweet peanut ginger dressing. This is garnished with a soy glazed soft boiled egg and bacon-laced potato salad plus a small vegetable spring roll.   It's a great combo with a melange of great complementary flavors. The Wasabi Ahi tuna poke bowl was good. The tuna bowl (ordered with salad instead of rice) features a generous mound of diced tuna, atop an assortment of kale, spinach and greens, silvered carrots and grilled corn.  The salad is dressed a ginger-based dressing and the whole box is topped with a strong of Wasabi-infused sauce plus a trio of thin sliced, deep fried green tomatoes. It was delicious, though not special. Bulgogi box was better. Plenty of other things to try at these and the other shops, so definitely will be back.  It's a great option when you can't decide what you want to eat, you can browse a bunch of options and follow your nose. read more

I went here to try it out and the BYOB option is my go to and delicious but here is a big warning never ever try their ramen noodle selection they are no good at all. It was a like an after thought just so they could compete with other ramen shops. I say stick with what works best and that's the box. In addition to this ramen noodle the chicken in the ramen noodles is deli meat and it's not chicken it's turkey deli meat it was such a disappointment. My husband had the teriyaki, which is chicken thighs, and it had a lot more meat. My complaint is all the items are piled together on top of brown rice and don't necessarily go together. The dressing on the Romaine, cucumber, tomato salad was on point and it also had 2 raw green beans. There are roasted vegetables to include onions and zucchini and a soft boiled soy egg. The included spring roll was my favorite part! The strangest component is a scoop of bland potato salad (is this an attempt to make it southern...we'll never know)! I ordered from Bul Box on a rainy day. It was amazing! The meat was fresh , rice great and it was so good! The box came with potato salad- little leaf salad - little roll and an egg! It was very tasty! I also ordered wings and they were going to be with fries. They came with rice. Not sure how those go together and wish I would have known that prior to ordering. Just stopped by the Transfer Co Food Hall today and decide to order a few items from Bul Box. First of all, they are following all COVID measures -- the staff members were wearing masks, there was a sheet of plexiglass between you and the cashier, utensils were wrapped up in napkins, etc. I definitely felt safe ordering from this place. Now onto the food itself. We got the bulgogi beef signature box (which came with a spring roll, half of an egg, some roasted veggies, a scoop of some sort of potato salad, and some regular salad) as well as the spicy tan tan noodle box (which came with an egg, lettuce, and roasted veggies). The bulgogi beef was very flavorful and tender, but I definitely enjoyed the noodles more. The noodles were cooked to a perfect al dente texture, and it came piled high with ground meat in a delicious and slightly spicy sauce. The only offputting thing (which is why I'm giving 4 stars and not 5) was the large amount of roasted veggies especially in the noodle box... It seemed like a bit of a weird addition to Asian food and I would have preferred something like bok choy or kimchi on the side instead. This isn't a dealbreaker or anything though and I would definitely come back to try some of their other menu items! Overall would recommend if you are at the Transfer Co Food Hall and in the mood for some good Asian fusion food. We're really disappointed in the change in menu and quality. Old menu Items like the panko-crusted fried chicken with honey were favorites that we came back for again and again, while the current selections of poke and rice bowls are less less memorable. With the multiple locations in the Triangle now, I wonder if Bul Box is focused on the concept versus the quality of the food. read more

I LOVE BUL BOX!!! The food is fresh and very tasty and everyone I have brought to BB has loved it, as well. The staff are friendly and the environment is clean. I've seen the management come out front and help serve (very impressive). I have used their catering services several times and EVERYBODY comments on how good the food is--not your usual food served at catered lunches. And I must go on about their catering manager, Sherwood Bailey. He is one of the reasons why I continue to place catering orders with him. He is prompt and very accommodating.
