I had never eaten Korean food before and wanted to try it. I had been told to try Bul Go Gi beef and there chose the restaurant with my dish of choice in it's name. That seemed wise. And it proved to be a wise decision. As I said, I have never eaten Korean food before so therefore have no comparison to other Korean food. But I do love good food in general, therefore my opinion that the food at Bul Go Gi House is DELICIOUS is still valid. DELICIOUS. Bul Go Gi Beef and Bipimbap and some sort veg dish is what we spit, and we ate it all, every last bite, with great gusto. There's lots of parking, the décor is standard Asian sit down restaurant (so don't expect too much is the point there), the portions are huge and the service is as good as it gets. These are all good points, but they really don't compare to the one and only fact that is important here, THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS. Go for the DELICIOUS food. read more

I use to come here all the time for some authentic Korean food. I think they may have changed owners. The food quality was mediocre. The deep fried dumplings were soggy and the marinade on the bul gal bee was off. My favorite part was the kim chi and bean sprouts you get with your food, but that has become really bland. Went to the good ol Bul Go Gi house for dinner last night. Was looking forward to some good Korean food as we haven't had it for a while. I was disappointed. I think the owners that's been there for many years have sold or something. The same guy that's been at the front was not there any more. After ordering my usual Bul Go Gi, sweet & sour chicken, and chap-Jae. It was not the same. The food had less taste, the Bul Go Gi didn't have a lot of meat, but a lot of lettuce & onions. It was just not the same as it used to be. So I hope the new owners take note and improve. I will go back one more time, but if it's the same experience I had last night, I will not go back!! read more

Sooo good, we ordered three things, the beef bulgogi which was very flavorful, and deep fried rice noodles were something I've never tried before and they were really good. I have been coming here for over 30 years, haven't been back for awhile but I was glad to see nothing has changed, the goon dak (chicken)and bi bim bap (rice with mixed vegetable and egg) are my favorite, such great flavours. We are so lucky to have this restaurant right in our neighbourhood. They have got many non-meat options; my favourite being Chap Jae (clear noodles with mushrooms) and Bi bim bap. Comparing to the meals we've had in Seoul and Incheon during our two days of layover, it is very authentic. Portion sizes are big -- so if you are on a budget, share. My significant other took my parents and myself for our first meet-the-parents dinner -- we ordered two dishes, with complimentary kimchi and sprout salad. It had been (15) years since we returned to this restaurant. We went Nov 7, 2014 @ 6:04 PM used Facebook to check-in. It will be the last time. The parking is limited and very inconvenient. The location has not been re-painted or refreshed in the 15 years. We were greeted and seated immediately. We were then given a plastic water pitcher and plastic glasses. Not the most hygienic. I ordered a can of pop and straw. We ordered (4) dishes all of which were ok. The food was ok, but as a dining experience we could have just gone to any food court and had the same. I've been going to Bul Go Gi ever since I've been a little girl. The restaurant itself is located in a small strip mall and occupies the southern corner. It's the type of restaurant you'd only head into on recommendations of a friend as it looks rather dingy from the outside. It ha a rather unimpressionable interior design, vaguely reminiscent of some '60s shack. It even has a couple paintings of fields and the Rockies (random!). The service however is quick and efficient. The menu has a lot of offerings although it seems that the chefs have been making the dishes a bit more bland and "safe" over the years. I remember the Mountain Vegetable dish having some kick and flavor - now it seems rather watery and tasteless. The same goes for some of the beef dishes. I'm not sure if they have revisited some of their recipes or if they have been gradually reducing the spices and flavorings of the dishes to (hopefully) cater to a greater clientele. Perhaps it's all a figment of my imagination as well... I still eat Bul Go Gi although lately I've been ordering their take-out. My favorite is definitely the deep-fried wontons with honey dip! read more

I've been going to Bulgogi House for years and I have my favourites which are always great. It's worth getting the bulgogi - they are named after it. I also love their jap-chae (glass noodles with veg) and the Dweh-ji bul-go-gi (spicky marinated pork with veg. All meals come with rice, kimchi and beansprouts unlimited. Some recent disappointments: Ya-chae-bok-kum (seasoned stir fried vegetables) very little flavour, but also too salty. I've been eating here for 15 years and I think I've gone here for the last time. The food is great, but the prices have increased so much and the service has gotten way worse that I can't justify eating here anymore. I'm pretty sure there has been a new management change in recent years, and they have done a terrible job managing the restaurant. I've eaten here for so long because the food is great. This restaurant could be so good if they actually sat down and trained the new staff in proper customer service. The last time I went there, I ordered over the phone in advance so that I could pick up the food and leave. This has always been no problem, except this time they didn't start making the food until I got there (and I got there 15 minuets after they said it would be ready). So after I waited for them to frantically cook the food, the bill comes out to be $60.00 more than what was quoted to me over the phone when I ordered. I was confused by this so I asked the young man working the register why the bill was so much more than what they quoted me an hour ago and he replied "The person on the phone was probably just guessing." Why would he be guessing? Shouldn't you tell your customer the exect price of their bill? The restaurant does not have a website, so I couldn't see any of the prices online, so I could only use the person on the phone as a reference. I told the young man at the register that I was very unhappy and he acknowledged this and went through each item and it's cost, but they were not going to do anything about the bill. Absolutely terrible customer service to lie to your customers about the price over the phone so that you buy more. Now, on to the price increases over the last few years. They have a beef dish that is barbecued beef short ribs and is quite popular. I remember when this dish was only $13 - $14 dollars, and the price has now gone up to $25 dollars! I have noticed a similar trend with other items on their menu. Why are prices increasing so much, and in some cases almost doubling? I understand that over time, prices will slowly go up (due to inflation and/or other factors) but this is getting out of hand. I used to come here as a place to get a quick, affordable meal that tastes great, and they have turned the place into one of the most expensive places I go to. Typically, groups of people order multiple dishes and share, and it is not uncommon to order 4-7 different dishes in a group. With the prices rising as they are, the bill skyrockets fast. I hope someone from management reads this. I loved your place so much over the years but after repeated bad experiences with customer service and outrageous prices, it is with a very heavy heart that I have to say goodbye. Lying to your customers about prices is unacceptable. A friend of mine also had a similar experience where they were given inaccurate information from a staff member. Your food is great! I absolutely LOVE bulgogi house! We always go there for birthdays and special occasions. It may look like a hole In the wall but they have GREAT service! I love that as soon as you sit down at the table they bring you a pitcher of ice water, bean sprout salad, Kim Chee and rice. The customer service is great and the food is great as well. The decor is lacking and if you have a baby that needs a diaper changing, it is nearly impossible to do in their tiny bathroom but otherwise it's amazing! read more

I was recently treated to a delicious traditional Korean dinner at the Bul Go Gi House on a recent trip I made to Edmonton. I felt welcomed by staff and comfortable in the simple, unpretentious environment. The staff were very kind and helpful in suggesting some appropriate food choices for myself and my dinner partner. We felt a connection with the waitress and enjoyed her personality and prompt, courteous service. Now to the food.... It was refreshing to be able to enjoy a home cooked style Korean meal. The portions have changed, the service is vastly overworked so therefore very slow and the experience was sadly lacking. Dreadful. To put this review in context, I was a regular at the Bul Go Gi House in the 1980s and 1990s, when the food was tasty, served hot, and offered good value for the money. I realize that everything changes, but often, that is for the better. Very sadly, this is not the case for BGGH. My first clue should have been that we arrived at 7 pm on a Friday evening to find it less than one-quarter full; in the old days, there would have been a line-up outside the door. We ordered the Yaechi Twigim (full order 15.95, not the half-order at 7.95). What arrived was a plate with six unevenly portioned but shockingly small pieces of somewhat-fried vegetables. In the old days, each piece was a fist-sized ball of at least a dozen pieces. Now, each portion was one (count it: one!) piece of white potato approx. 2.5 inches long, 1 inch wide, 1/4 inch thick; with one smaller piece of carrot laid on top; with a miniscule piece of what was supposed to be parsley on top. In total, the six piece in the order were composed of less than one whole potato, less than one whole carrot, less than one whole sprig of parsley...for 15.95! Utterly shocking! To add insult to injury, half of the potato pieces were uncooked! Half-raw potatoes! Inexcusable in any restaurant, let alone one that has been around for so many years. The Beebim Bap (various vegetables with a fried egg on top; $14.95) was served lukewarm in an ice-cold metal bowl! The rice was barely room temperature---it had obviously been sitting for hours. None of the various vegetables were even half-hot, suggesting that they, too, were prepared long in advance. And I cannot come up with an explanation for why that bowl was so shockingly cold except that it must have been stored in the freezer or outside in the December night; it would have been great for serving ice cream, but not a hot rice and vegetable dish. Finally, the tofu and stir-fried vegetables ($15.95, I think) was mostly shredded cabbage and a bit on onion. I had to search for the tofu---I'm not kidding. At first, I thought they had brought the wrong dish, as the small slices of tofu looked more like pieces of fried egg. I did not know it was possible to slice tofu that thinly. By comparison, the tofu with lemon grass at Doan's Vietnamese restaurant ($14.95) is a plate of thick tofu wedges---at least a dozen of them, comprising at least two (or more) full, thick squares blocks of tofu (the 4 inch square size you buy in the grocery store). At Bul Go Gi, they had obviously been sliced into one-third or one-quarter thicknesses, then further pared down. There was less than a dollar's worth of tofu in the dish. And the 3 pieces broccoli crown (I had to look for them) were the size of my baby fingernail. I realize it costs money to run a restaurant: equipment, food, staff, taxes, etc. I realize you pay more to eat out than eat at home. But there is no excuse for the lack of quality, lack of quantity, and cold food served at the Bul Go Gi House these days. No wonder there was hardly anyone there. It was an insult. I shall never, ever return. Very sad that this once-favorite restaurant has deteriorated to this extent. read more

I only visit there once, but I have many experience for the korean restaurant in Edmonton. Bui go gi house is a truly korean kitchen. Truly means the korean cook the traditional korean food in North American. I ordered a kimchi soup and it tasted good and flavorful. The soup is best food in a cold day. I also ordered a sweet and sour fried chicken(i forgot the name, but it is a fried chicken). And I like the the chicken better than the soup. The only reason I give a 4 stars instead of 5 because the service is sloppy. Or maybe because the staffs started to have their dinner at same time, the service is not good. I was craving Korean food for the longest time and my lunch date and I walked here from his place (5 mins away). It was a little disappointing to say the least. I had their bul-go-gi luncheon special and I found it not very flavored at all. The Jap-Chae was alright, the noodles with broccoli, carrot, onion, and shitake mushrooms seemed to lack flavor again. I was going to Bul Go Gi House for 2 years like once a month. I went again tonight with a few friends for the first time since September. I was surprosed the menu changed... but I found my usual items. But wait... it's 3$ more expensive than last time... and now the rice is not included in my usual dish (the sweet fried chicken). We ordered 3 dishes with my friends and we waited. The portion were way smaller than before, the chicken was good but far away from wonderful one we were used to eat and, as said, the rice is not included nor unlimited (+6$~ish!). At the end we left with a bill 20% higher than last time we went for the same dishes, we eat lower quality food and the waitress told us than next time we won't be allowed to pay separately by visa/debit because it costs more to them! Good quality Korean food at a reasonable price scale. Their preparation for a food pick up that I ordered was fast (it only took them 15 minutes). The ambience of the place was average, not so fancy but decent. But when you take your first bite of their food, you'll probably want to come back because of how delicious it is and it also comes in a huge serving. I like how the Jjampong was made since it's one of my favorite Korean food aside from Bi Bim Bap, they only add a slightly amount of spice to it and you'll totally taste the seafood flavor along with the veggies. read more

We wanted tea to start which never came until we asked right at the very end of our meal-we couldn't find the server. Ordered the seafood soup to start and got the vegetable soup instead, the four dishes we asked for were all suppose to be spicy and the food delivered was in a sweet sauce? Total bill came to 66.00 for 4 people and we were all a bit disappointed. If this happens to you ask to talk to the owner or manager and get your order free. This Korean restaurant is pure gold, both food and service-wise. After dining here a week ago, I cannot wait to go back and try more skilfully prepared meals! During my visit, I have ordered marinated chicken grilled with mushrooms and vegetables, and a serving of rice. Let me assure you that even though the order sounded plain and simple, it was anything but. The huge plate of sizzling stir-fry that was put on the table in front of me was magnificent! Chicken strips were juicy,aromatic and tender; vegetables were crispy and mushrooms were in abundance. Airy rice was just the right addition to the meal. I should have mentioned that every meal at Bul Go Gi comes with complimentary side dishes which are: kimchi that exudes just the right amount of spiciness and bean sprouts lightly marinated in sesame oil. Delish! Paired with sizzling chicken and vegetables, these light side dishes were pure perfection. My dining companion ordered pork chops marinated in sauce the name of which had slipped my mind. I snuck a taste, and these may easily have been the tastiest pork chops I have ever tasted! Basically, when you come to Bul Go Gi, expect mind blowing food. All ingredients are fresh and all meals are prepared with love. Another thing you can expect when you visit this restaurant is fantastic customer service. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. My guess is that Bul Go Gi is a family-run restaurant. People who work here strive to provide their customers with the ultimate dining experience while still managing to keep atmosphere at the restaurant cozy, comfortable and unpretentious. read more
