While walking towards bulacan, your senses are hit with the smell of freshly baked goods and tantalizing sweets. It's a small area that has it's typical filipino pasteries, both fresh and wrapped. They also had freshly boiled peanuts and empanadas (chicken and beef) along with sio pao and banana cue. We ordered three peices of banana cue, one of each empanada, a bag of peanuts, and a box of sio pao. This little bakery also takes cards so we were happy and the service was quick. I did find that the empanadas had too much breading, which was an issue for me. I did like the chicken over the beef and it seemed like my husband liked the sio pao. The peanuts was good too. If you visit, you may want to go early to get the freshest of the fresh baked goods and to avoid the crowd! read more

Tried their bibingka for the first time today and it's, by far, the best bibingka I've had in America! Their chicken empanada remains to be my family's favorite empanada, they always taste fresh, moist, buttery and yummy! Their other best seller, ube pandesal, aren't my fave. It's too purple, not from ube but from purple food color, and they don't taste like ube whatsoever. In fairness to them, ube pandesal is overrated everywhere. It's just plain purple bread. read more

Traveling and saw there was a Filipino bakery so stopped in yo see if they had kutsinta... not only did they, but a lot of other yummy treats. I did wish they had fresh coconut to top the kutsinta. Also tried the ube rolls, ube biko and spamdesal- which had diced spam and cheese inside- 20 secs in the microwave and it was deliciously warmed through. Their beef and.chicken empanadas are delicious! Nice, tasty flaky outside crust and filled with delicious meat and vegetables. It is filled to the point of nearly bursting out of it's shell, unlike those made at Valerio's Bakery, where I normally go. I've decided that this is now my to go Filipino Bakery. I loved the turon and the bitso bitso as well! They were fresh and yummy!! I only came to this bakery once before. I had an old review that I started and never posted. I loved the siopao that last time I stopped in. I believe I always went to the other bakery because it was familiar and right outside Seafood City. I will rethink it the next time I want to go to a Filipino bakery. I'll head over to Springs Rd. and take my business to Bulacan. It's less expensive and tastes better. I haven't been back to my roots since immigrating 22 years ago (you can check my ID if it makes you feel better, scared Arizonans), so it's nice to visit a place that, even for an instance, brings back some of the memories left behind. Bulacan Bakery does just that, serving absolutely awesome traditional Filipino pastries, better than Red Ribbon and way better than Valerio's. It's a small bakery run by a sweet family whose passion for baking and tradition shows in their products. The elderly lady comes out to greet customers with a smile, offering recommendations. You can easily see her joy and pride. You can also peek into their kitchen and see how they create everything fresh from scratch. I recommend the bibinka (rice cake cooked in banana leaves with white cheese, butter, and grated coconut) - moist, flaky, and has just the right amount of sweetness and buttery flavor. The empanadas ($1.35 each) are also very good. I would prefer them to be less bready, but once you get to the meat part, they are very enjoyable and well made. They have three different types of siopao (pork buns), all of them very tasty. Just a few disappointments, which really sound like compliments. They should expand their selection, even slightly. For example, if they can add more traditional items like taho (silken tofu with brown sugar and vanilla syrup) and coconut pie, that would really be great. I also wish they would sell fresh and warm pan de sals (perhaps either by piece or by weight). The only ones they have are in a pre-packaged plastic bag and they are not warm at all. That would truly make them unique. It's obvious that my qualms have more to do with what they are not rather than what they are. I have nothing bad to say about their products, they're all very fresh and very well made. Bowling bread! I discovered this bakery when I was heading back from SF one day and came across it on Yelp. My mom loves filipino breads and pastries and since we don't live close to Daly City, Vallejo is the next best thing. This bakery is located right next to Island Pacific on Springs Road. They have tons of freshly baked goodies such as pan de sal, mamon, ensymada, and of course, my favorite bowling bread. It's basically mini ensymada (round, fluffy, sugary, buttery bread) baked together and it's delicious for breakfast in the morning with coffee or tea. They also have savory items such as pork or chicken siopao and meat empanadas, and even have desserts such as karioka and turon! read more

Situation: I wanted to bring empanadas to a work potluck that was taking place the next day. Problem: I had to pick them up on the way to work... I had to be at work by 8am, which meant they had to be ready by 7:30am. My question: is there a place open early enough to have these ready by that time so I can get to work on time? Answer: Yes! It was 3pm when I started searching for a bakery that would be open extra early. This bakery had pretty good reviews but didn't list their hours so I called them first and asked them what time they opened. 7am - score! Next step... find out if they can have 30 empanadas ready by 7:30am... which I admit is a big order for that time of day on short notice! So when I asked them, they actually said they wouldn't be able to do it. But a few seconds after I hung up they called back instantly (probably by using *69 or caller ID because I didn't give them my number) and said they could actually fill my order! So I got beef empanadas and a few spicy pork. I was a little worried that they wouldn't have it ready by the time I arrived but hoped that it wouldn't take longer than 10 minutes late. But guess what - I got there at 7:33am and they were ready and boxed up!! So I went in, paid for it and I was out of there in less than 5 minutes. I was soooo extremely relieved! Plus on my way out, their shelves full of different kinds of breads and other goodies made my mouth water - they all looked so fresh! The empanadas were bigger than expected with a heaping amount of filling and delicious! Plus, every single one of my coworkers loved them. The spicy pork (thankfully not very spicy) was most popular so I'll probably order more of that next time. I will definitely be back again! read more

I Ordered 50 pieces of their turon and it was delish! The glazed filipino dessert with banana and langka (filipino fruit) was for my guests at my baby shower occasion. It was a hit because there weren't any left at the end of the event. I called ahead of time to order, which they only require a day notice. The bakery has other Filipino desserts to offer, but their turon is well known for this bakery. Their customer service was excellent over the phone and when I had picked up the order. You got to love Filipino baked goods if you grew up on it. This bakery caught my attention since it was next to Island Pacific. I thought I'd peep in to see what they were baking. There you will find Filipino favorites such as pan de sal, pan de leche, custard pie, and many more. I purchased a bag of Pan De Ube and man it was tasty! After downing my second piece, I was reading the ingredients label and found that it contained margarine. I was disappointed that they don't use quality ingredients such as real butter. Margarine is poison period and don't want any of it! If I ever return, I'll be sure the next time I read the label which I failed to do during my visit. I'm sure they didn't intend to cut corners by using margarine. I believe the average person doesn't know how bad it is for the body. Their intensions are good so don't get me wrong. Even though it contained margarine, I have to admit it was tasty. $10.00 is the minimum purchase if you plan on using credit card. I suggest bringing cash if you don't intend on a large purchase. I'm literally writing this review as I sit in my car devouring pork siopao. I just stopped by Bulacan Bakery (it's Saturday around 4pm) and picked up a box of siopao and some cheese pimiento bites. You can tell the siopao was just freshly packed as they are still warm. I haven't had siopao from here before, but it has just become my new favorite. Maybe the best Filipino bakery in town! My favorites: Pandesal: slightly softer and sweeter than what you'll find elsewhere. It's like a cross between pandesal and pan de monay. Empanadas: a happy medium of sorts: shells aren't tough like some others i've had and the flavors are not too salty like the mass-produced/commercialized stuff. Bibingka: great flavor from the banana leaves and just the right amount of cream cheese randomly placed throughout (tama!) Hopia Hapon: suprisingly close to some authentic manju i've tried (i don't think i've had geppei yet) Karioka: also the best in town! A tiny storefront bakery with a variety of Filipino breads, pastries, rice cakes & sweet buns. I only come here when I shop at the bigger Island Pacific Supermarket next door. The place is built to peruse the goodies & buy them to go. No dine in or lingering. Their filled pastries tend to be bready with little portions of filling. Wish their Hopia Baboy wasn't so thick & starchy. Wish their Pork Asado buns had a side of extra sauce (even if the sauce already baked in). Goodies are ok. Some tend to be on the dry side. My favorite here is the Puto Bumbong--an purple "ube" moist rice cake cooked in short bamboo pipes, topped with butter & brown sugar. After buying some imported hopia inside the store, i saw this bakery nearby. so i tried the hopia which looked like an average hopia but when i ate it, it was really good!!!! Please be careful to eat some bread in this bakery, because when we were about to eat the bread, I believe the empanada, we saw human hair strand inside it. This was the second time we saw hair strand in the bread. I talked to the cashier 2nd time and she will let the owner know. BEST FILIPINO EMPANADAS EVER!!! I highly recommend this place for THE BEST EMPANADAS in the Bay area. I buy them by the dozens, freeze them, and cook them on 60% power when microwaving them. This makes the dough soft, like it was just baked! It is like eating a warm chicken pot pie, in the middle of winter. It hits the spot each and every time! I can't get enough of these! Everyone in my family eats at least one a day. It can get pricey though... $3.00 a piece doesn't appear to be a lot if your buying one or two, but when your buying several dozen, it adds up fast! I wish they had a repeat customer rewards card, or something that made me feel like I was being valued for continuing to buy massive amounts often. That is my only recommendation. I live on the Peninsula, and every time myself or anyone in my family drives anywhere remotely close to Vallejo, I make them stop there and grab me a few dozen to freeze. Best place ever! I'm torn. I'm torn because Filipino shops like this always disappoint in the long run. Should I give the 3 stars because the place has decent baked goods, but was somewhat expensive? Or should I give 2 stars because they've increased prices but the quality isn't as great? One of the goods I used to praise and share was the ube bread. It used to be tasty with excellent texture. Now, it's way too fluffy, so much so that the already skinny loaf becomes deflated. It's just not worth it any more. Why should I pay $5 for air?! I used to be a regular customer here at Bulucan until my last visit. Normally I pick up an assortment of items including their empenada's which are very good. But the last time I came in I placed my order for some Bonnete bread, 2 Turons, 3 Empenadas and a few other things. As the cashier was getting ready to get my order together she started talking to a customer who just walked in the door. They were speaking in Tagalog and she hesitated getting my order together. I waited patiently for her to start putting the items into a bag and all the sudden she turns to me and says that they were all out of Turon when I can clearly see 10 of them sitting in the case right next to me. Seems that the lady behind me was able to sweet talk her way in the short time she walked into the store on buying all of the Turon that was left in the case even though I was being helped first. When the cashier started to gather my items she says to me "Sorry sir, but we do not have anymore Turon available. She bought them all." I looked to her and said "Seriously? I was here first and you can't just give me the small portion I asked for?" She looks at me and says "No sir, all sold out". She put together my order and I quickly felt that I should just walk out and say screw this place. Being a regular supporter of this business it was right then and there I decided that my business is not appreciated. I usually come in and spend about $20+ a week here making multiple trips for all sorts of goodies when I'm near this shopping center. But after this visit I realized that if you're not Filipino and don't speak Tagalog, they don't give a rats ass about your business. They give preferential treatment to customers who speak their language. That's fine with me because there are other businesses I will be spending my money with. Businesses who actually value a regular customer and a local supporter. Although they make a good product, I'm choosing not to support this bakery anymore. The sissy and I dropped in after picking up some ulam next door at Pinoy Pinay...We were looking for a little snack to keep us going til we hit the road and headed to Sacramento and so we decided to get some empanadas. I'm pretty leary of baked empanads since they tend to be dry inside, but I was delightfully surprised by the moist and creamy chicken and carrot mixture inside my empanada. My sister got the pork empanada and said it was spicy but good! They had some other interesting things like a spam roll! Gotta try that next time too! Their karioka was sweet and chewy!
