    Banana pudding

Get the banana pudding. It was amazing. I have dreams about it. The guys working were really nice and the shop was pretty cute. There is an area where you can watch them bake and make items which is cool.

Stopped in on our third stop on our little bakery tour of the area. We stumbled in to a camp they were running for some kids. Which was running for two weeks. Seemed like a very cool opportunity for the kids and the open kitchen area where you can watch the team at work was really cool. We had the coffee and lemon drop cupcake. The cupcake was dense and had too much of an icing to cake ratio for my personal taste, but my daughter liked it a lot.. The coffee was far too hot and not very flavorful. Would not recommend the coffee at all.

We went to Bull City Bake Shop right at opening on a Sunday and what a great experience!! We came because we heard how amazing the banana pudding was, and we were not disappointed!! When we came in, the wonderful employees told us though they did not have any banana pudding out yet, they would finish some up for us if we waited for a few minutes. 5 minutes later and we walked out with 2 cupcakes and some incredible banana pudding. You can tell how much love they put into their products--everything tastes so homemade and fresh!! Pictured below in order: banana pudding, birthday cake cupcake, and cookies and cream cupcake. We LOVE it here, we will be back!! Thank you!!

Very tasty! This is a new business that opened up a few weeks ago. Durham lacks bakeries, so this is a great addition. The cakes, cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, and cake pops are very artfully arranged. The owners are also attentive and helpful. I thought the vanilla cupcake was very delicious with a thick frosting. I put one less star because it is bit on the pricy side and chocolate cake was a bit dry. However, overall, this place is very good and would recommend it for a sugary treat!

Black Wall Street cake -- chocolate cake, ganache, chocolate icing and raspberry jam. Delicious and moist

Stopped in while waiting for T-Mobile next door and everyone was really friendly. We were there pretty late in the day so the selection wasn't robust but everything looked great. Settled on a cannoli filling cupcake, a hunk of Black Wall Street cake (which is 1) a cool homage to Durham's past and 2) literally a hunk of cake -- it's huge) and a walnut brownie. Didn't try the brownie (but was assured it was delicious) but loved the cupcake and the cake. The cupcake was really moist and I loved the more than ample dollop of frosting on top. The cake was equally moist but really sweet -- it had a layer of raspberry jam that was definitely needed (and made it taste perfect). I'm not on that side of town often but will definitely be back whenever I'm close and in the need of a delicious sweet.

As you walk in, you're greeted by one of the biggest smiles you'll ever see and a heartfelt "welcome"! You've now stepped foot inside a small piece of heaven. Tucked away is this quaint cafe with cute chairs and tables, set up to be the perfect spot to bring a book and grab a treat. I get another smile and wave from the kitchen. They are genuinely happy to see you and I'm here for it! I walk up for a tasting and select the following: 1. The Black Wallstreet Cake: dense, yet ever so moist layered cake with a fudge consistency. In between the rich chocolate cake is a light chocolate frosting, covered with a chocolate coating. If you're a chocolate fanatic, this is for you. It's big enough for two people to share! 2. The Apple Cinnamon Roll: come and get a taste of autumn! The ever so sweetness of a homemade roll, with a light buttery frosting, topped with cinnamon apples. Bonus for the apples still having a nice bite to them and not being overly cooked. If you like cinnamon, this is your jam! 3. The Chocolate Chunk and Sea Salt Cookie: I want to date this cookie, marry it and have cookie babies. Yes, it's that good! It's perfectly prepared - soft, yet still chewy with the right amount of chocolate chunks. Then you get the ever so light sprinkle of sea salt, that brings out the flavor. You will have all the feels. It's classic and delicious. This place needs to be successful: excellent customer service, amazing goods and a very reasonable price. Make your way over there today!!

this place is is easily 5/5 stars. The customer service was great and the interior decor is so cute! But what's most import to me is the taste of the cupcakes. They were both had very moist cake with icing that was sweet but not too sweet. I find that a lot of places have icing that's wayyyy to sweet and you don't get the flavor due to that but this was not the case AT ALL! I'll definitely be returning!

Had brownie bites and cupcakes. Strange chemical flavor, like they absorbed whatever cleaning supplies are used in the shop.

They make cookies, pastries, breads (pan loaf and hand-formed ones), soups, hand pies, and sandwiches. The variety is amazing. During the holiday season, they offer larger pies and have various seasonal goods to offer. But what's also wonderful is this bakery gives back to the community in many ways. During the height of the pandemic, they offered free bagged lunch to anyone who needed one. They also were (are?) part of the pilot project for Durham's guaranteed income. It looks to me that the owners/company are concerned about being good citizens of the community and that's a great thing. These days, so many companies get bought out by private equity companies. I hope this bakery continues to be locally owned and operated! (Also, generally this bakery isn't offering the very fancy European/European-ish style pastries which is fine by me. The prices are very reasonable, possibly in part because they aren't trying to make their baked goods a "high end" item. There are other good local bakeries that offer "high end" pastries, but they are also much less affordable and for my taste, too rich.)

We got a pack of 8 chocolates (admittedly they did cost a pretty penny haha), which ranked from my most to least favorite are: 1. Horchata: So good, the horchata essence hit me as soon as I took a bite. Very cinnamony, very milky & creamy. 2. Passionfruit: I'm a sucker for anything passionfruit. The curd-like filling did not taste artificial at all. 3. Almond cardamom: Topped with a real almond, but more cardamom forward, reminded me of chai. 4. Hazelnut sassy monkey: Distinguished more coffee than banana, but it was there. Also liked the layer of crunch. 5. Raspberry lychee: The raspberry jam was strong and tasty, the floral essence from lychee was subtle. 6. Sesame matcha: Surprisingly citrusy? I did taste some bitterness from the matcha and appreciated the earthy sesame crust. 7. Ube: Sadly did not detect much ube flavor. 8. Earl grey lavender: Definitely the prettiest, but tasted like what I imagine soap would taste like. In terms of whether the chocolate is worth the price: I've never had this experience of trying such diverse and interesting chocolate flavors before so it was for me. Ambiance is nice, I think there was only outside seating. There's good parking nearby in the Brightleaf lots or on W Pettigrew St. Service was fast and friendly. 8/10 would recommend!

The location is in a strip-mall that's set back a ways from 55, so it's not really visible from the street at all. However, it's weirder than that-- you have to drive AROUND the strip mall to the back, past the various loading docks for other stores, and they you see this place is open just from the BACK of the strip mall. I heard the owner is Algerian, but there are many Palestinian references and flags around the shop, so if that's triggering, then know this in advance before coming in. Still, the place is brightly lit and airy, with tables to eat. They do custom cakes, cupcakes, and other desserts, but we just wanted to sample some sweets. Hours are funny-- just midday Friday through Sunday. We ordered a pecan brownie and a pistachio chocolate dish with kunafa (shredded Middle Eastern pastry), as well as a mocha coffee. The mocha coffee was rich and delicious, as expected. The pistachio chocolate dish with kunafa was to-die-for... SO delicious. Super thick and messy, as you'd hope it would be. And of course the pecan brownie was amazing. I will say the pastries are not "cheap". I got a single tahini chocolate chip cookie to go for a friend, and that was $4.50 for a modest sized cookie. The other dishes above were in the $6 range. But these are unusual custom-made dishes, so it's fair.

Worth every penny and I have spent quite a lot pennies at this place. When you get a cheesecake, be forewarned that it more than likely is frozen- it has to be since there are no preservatives!! I like to get home and cut it into 4ths and put back into the freezer to freeze them to keeep them from getting to soft and mushy since I only eat a 1/4 at a time. Plus it's easier to cut them when they are frozen. My only wish is that they had a sugar free version.... But then again, maybe it's a blessing in disguise! I would be there every week and my pocketbook would be tapped out! They do also have vegan cheesecakes, and I tried two- but I honestly wasn't very fond of them. I think they had a good flavor, but it was a texture issue for me and a personal preference. So don't hold that against them! I'm sure if you're vegan, you would appreciate them. Another note: they have odd hours in my opinion.
