Super disappointing experience. Called and spoke to them after narrowing down bakeries for my fiancé's milestone birthday. The woman was so sweet and took the info I gave. All we wanted was an almond cake with fresh strawberry filling. Cool. I pick it up and there are no strawberries on top and when we cut into it, it's raspberry. I called and they asked how to make it right so I asked for the correct cake I had ordered and I'd pick it up in a few days as we were headed out of town for her bday. Stopped in on our third stop on our little bakery tour of the area. We stumbled in to a camp they were running for some kids. Which was running for two weeks. Seemed like a very cool opportunity for the kids and the open kitchen area where you can watch the team at work was really cool. We had the coffee and lemon drop cupcake. The cupcake was dense and had too much of an icing to cake ratio for my personal taste, but my daughter liked it a lot.. The coffee was far too hot and not very flavorful. We went to Bull City Bake Shop right at opening on a Sunday and what a great experience!! We came because we heard how amazing the banana pudding was, and we were not disappointed!! When we came in, the wonderful employees told us though they did not have any banana pudding out yet, they would finish some up for us if we waited for a few minutes. 5 minutes later and we walked out with 2 cupcakes and some incredible banana pudding. I recently met a friend at Bull City Bake Shop after work. When we walked in, the bakery smelled like cleaning supplies, not freshly baked goods. I'm glad the place was clean, but I would have loved to smell the delicious looking cakes and cookies baking. It took a moment for someone to come to the counter, but they were friendly. I just got coffee but it was watered down. My friend got a cinnamon bun and said it was very good. Very tasty! This is a new business that opened up a few weeks ago. Durham lacks bakeries, so this is a great addition. The cakes, cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, and cake pops are very artfully arranged. The owners are also attentive and helpful. I thought the vanilla cupcake was very delicious with a thick frosting. Had read about this African American woman-owned bakery but had not visited until I was shopping in some nearby stores and decided to pop in. There was a young girl behind the counter (owner's daughter perhaps?) and she was telling me about their favorite items. They had plenty of cupcakes and other offerings but I was in the mood for cookies and got two: chocolate chip and sea salt, and oatmeal raisin. Stopped in while waiting for T-Mobile next door and everyone was really friendly. We were there pretty late in the day so the selection wasn't robust but everything looked great. Settled on a cannoli filling cupcake, a hunk of Black Wall Street cake (which is 1) a cool homage to Durham's past and 2) literally a hunk of cake -- it's huge) and a walnut brownie. Didn't try the brownie (but was assured it was delicious) but loved the cupcake and the cake. The cupcake was really moist and I loved the more than ample dollop of frosting on top. The cake was equally moist but really sweet -- it had a layer of raspberry jam that was definitely needed (and made it taste perfect). I'm not on that side of town often but will definitely be back whenever I'm close and in the need of a delicious sweet. read more

this place is is easily 5/5 stars. The customer service was great and the interior decor is so cute! But what's most import to me is the taste of the cupcakes. They were both had very moist cake with icing that was sweet but not too sweet. I find that a lot of places have icing that's wayyyy to sweet and you don't get the flavor due to that but this was not the case AT ALL! I'll definitely be returning! read more

I just finish eating their orange cranberry muffin. It was so delicious. It has that sweet and a little tart taste. I would advise you to warm it up a little. When you warm it up. The top with the icing crumbles and it fits perfect with the softness of the muffin. This is my second favorite. My first favorite is their blueberry muffin. My boyfriend and I attend school at UNC and make it a point to drive over here every once in a while for these delicious goods when we need a break from the chaos. Not only does everyone remember who we are and gives us a warm welcome every time we come in, everything that they offer is to die for. First of all, the blondies! I am no food connoisseur but these are maybe the best blondies I've had. I brought some to my family in Greensboro and I was immediately asked to go get some more. Previously, I was not a fan of cinnamon rolls / cinnamon in general. Their cinnamon rolls (which are only offered on the weekends) have converted me! They are gooey and so good. While I am only mentioning the blondies and cinnamon rolls, everything else is also amazing. You can tell each is made with love for baking. Brownies, cakes, cake pops, cupcakes, muffins, etc. I have not tried one thing that I was dissatisfied with. Lydia so so kindly made my boyfriend and I chocolate covered strawberries for our anniversary. It is not an item usually offered on their menu, so she really went out of her way to make our anniversary special. The bakery itself is so cute and the ambiance is great. I tried the Hummingbird Cake which has the texture and cream cheese icing layers of a moist carrot cake but the flavors of pineapple and banana. Delicious. Next time I will try the decadent looking chocolate cake. The cinnamon buns available on weekends often sell out in a few minutes. The plate sized oatmeal raisin cookies also caught my eye.
