The food might take a little longer here to come out, but that just gives you more time to savor a top off on your coffee and really get into your conversation. Speaking of the food, it's great. Blueberry pancakes were light and fluffy, and stuffed with so many fresh picked blueberries I almost thought I ordered the cobbler. And omelets here have that really thin egg layer that envelopes a pile of meat or veg or cheese. All jam packed with flavor. Prices are reasonable and staff are friendly. read more

Stopped on my way home to Illinois from Ohio. My server was just a peach! Friendly, quick and even offered to put my leftover coffee in a to-go cup. I had the chicken fried steak and eggs. Eggs were cooked perfectly over-medium and the food was great! Highly recommended! read more

We came in on a Sunday 7/14 at 10:20am. The restaurant was half full. We were served promptly with iced tea and coffee. Our food did not arrive until 11:35am. Others who arrived after us were warned that service would be slow and food could take an hour. We did not get this warning. The food was average and reasonably tasty. read more

It's a calm restaurant in the morning. The food took a very long time to come out, and there was an okay amount of food.

This is one of my favorite places to go. The staff are warm and friendly and the food is great. I love that a place like this still exists in America - good food, good people, not pretentious. You sometimes have to wait a little while for your order. I suggest savoring the time by getting another cup of coffee and enjoying your morning. read more

Stopped here on a chance driving across the country and I'm so glad we did. Super friendly staff (very prompt with the coffee refills) and excellent food. My wife got a farmers omelette and it was amazing! Full to the brim with veggies and crispy hash browns. The front of the show says "nobody beats our meat." And they were right. This place is what is city folk dream of when coming to rural America. The Bull Pen is near my family's lake house, and as I only get up there 1-2 times a year, I usually stop in here for breakfast before hitting up Gay's Hops & Schnapps. It's a throw-back kind of place, deer heads on the wood-paneled walls. Typical stick-to-your-ribs fare. I enjoy the small town atmosphere, though it's blatantly obvious who the locals are versus the city slicker weekenders!(I'd be the latter). But I've always had good service, though they can get slow on the weekends when a rush is on. My father and I waited about 45 minutes for a simple order which usually I wouldn't worry about, but he waited far too long to take his Parkinson's medicine as a result and could barely walk back to the car. Other than that, it's the kind of place that rents out spots on their paper placemats for local advertisements. Decent all around, nothing crazy. The kind of place you'd probably get a killer piece of pie, though I've never saved room. read more

We just ordered our food. The people there said it would be here in 10 minutes! How excellent! Very fast! I come from this town And their food is great at the bull pen from my past experiences. I just have to wait a couple more minutes until I actually taste my food. I can't wait for our food!!I'll add pictures of my food when it comes. I just found out it would be here in like a minute! Cute diner with huuuuuuge portions, particularly for the daily specials. We really wanted to try their homemade pies but were so full we couldn't manage. Well, not happy. 60 minute wait after order placed. Some customers got up and left. One was a family of 5. There were only 6 tables with customers. There was one young waitress for both sides of the restaurant. Young boys cleaning tables and helping. Really did not see an older person. Not sure who the manager was. New people came in and were told about the wait and left. I guess, we could have left, but decided to wait. We didn't want to have to drive into Angola. She notified a waitress, again, not mine, I was then told to put what I didn't order on to another plate and they would bring me what I ordered. No apologies for the wait or the mess up. The younger I was the better the food seemed to taste and the more I enjoyed the overall experience. Unlike wine, the Bull Pen has not aged as well as many small town niche diners I have visited over the years. Food is average, grease is above average, and it is appropriately priced. Service is acceptable, they don't sell it as something it isn't. Would I go here if I was hungry... yes, but would I take someone I wanted to impress... no. read more

Coffee/Tea doesn't run out, as they will fill it before you have to ask. They will remove your dishes as you finish with them. 10 of us went to this restaurant for Sunday breakfast. My husbands eggs were not right so we asked if we could get them recooked. The waitress took them to the kitchen and a few minutes later the owner came out and loudly said there is nothing wrong wit these eggs an literallly threw the plate down in front of my husband.. shocked he asked since he can not eat them can he at least have this portion taken off the bill. She screamed through the restaurant and said I am not taking "SH**" off your bill. I asked her why she is being so mean and she again used profanity. I was shocked she was treating us this way and more shocked she was swearing in front of these little kids. I would not recommend this restaurant to any one. This place is disgusting. Cooks were drunk on Friday night and drinking while cooking and fighting with each other. Floors and tables were horrible. Waitresses were horrible and confused. People walking thru the kitchen hacking and coughing as they passed thru. Girl bussing the table was rude and lazy. Fish was so greasy I told the waitress and she stated its not worth the fight your gonna have with the owner /cook. Just left and will never return. Grossssss read more
